Didier Lourenço (Spain)

2012, Oil on canvas

40cm (W) x 40 cm(H) x 5cm (D)

HK$24,800

18

Didier Lourenço is known for his delicate depiction of the desolated yet beautiful human souls in the hustle and bustle of city life In his new series, he brings his subject to a new world of museum and art. In this series, not only does Lourenço carefully portray the full journey – exterior and interior – of an art museum, but he also incorporates his contemporary re-interpretation of some classical masterpieces that we have all seen Under his brush, humans are faceless and almost identical

What the artist conveys is the sameness, stillness and melancholy of city life; there is a kind of subtle sadness, yet also beauty within it In the world of his paintings, humans are alone even when they have company; one can only find tranquility by communicating with and understanding oneself His dry brush technique gives his art a vintage aura, highlighting the light and shadow of what he depicts

“I have included a series of work titled ‘Divertimento’ Divertimento is a short piece of music that is playful and light; the paintings I did are like that kind of music I give a touch of humor to the pieces, incorporating a contemporary interpretation that is closer to our present reality into classical masterpieces created by world renowned painters

While the masterpieces act as a base of my paintings, I replaced the characters in the classical masterpieces with characters that come from and are known by the present world – characters of cartoons and comics

I hope to show that world the way we can employ pop culture as reference to understand and reinterpret the old masterpieces from a different perspective – to show that art transcends time and connects history ”

THE KISS

HK$38,800

Peter Kauders (Austria) 2010, Mixed media on wood board 50cm (W) x 80 cm(H) x 5cm (D)
28
Original artist-made framing included painted wood in white color, 80 cm (W) x 133 cm (H)

Peter Kauders born in 1958 in Vienna From 1980 to 1989, he studied Metal and Product design at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna under Prof Auböck At present, he lives and works as freelance artist in Windischgarsten, Oberösterreich

Peter is a composer who does not want to be constrained by the 8-tone-music, but is exploring the twelve-tone music, which means in terms of painting, that he has to invent a complete new technique, which allows him to add a missing component to the color, namely structure. For Peter, structure is rhythm, just like in music

This structure is achieved by pressing different kind of materials such as wood, textiles, printedpaper, metal etc in a sizing press With a sander, Peter will start to remove sporadically layer by layer and by doing so creating “Silent Revelations” with complex images of graphical structures, patterns and rhythms

The title of the painting is MIKADO (JACK STRAWS) and it shows the much beloved JACK STRAWS painted in a photorealistic manner The JACK STRAWS are a symbol of the many challenges the people are facing, but if all nations work together peacefully, problems can be solved one by one

We do not perceive the objects as they are in reality, but in the way as we want to see them. That means, in the way the media present them to us We only recognize things/objects/news which are shown by the media, everything else does not exist for us.

This is the reason why I paint so that I can show the other side of the coin In fact, in my paintings I do not reproduce the visible, but show the visible The objects I paint are close to still life, that means items of daily consumption in their daily use

I paint the objects when they are used, when they are consumed That is maybe the reason why my paintings are on the one hand so irritating and on the other hand so fascinating, because those objects look differently in a high gloss magazine or on TV as they do during use respectively consumption

I paint the reality, the real life This is different from the make belief world as shown in the media The reality is not beautiful, or is it ? Simple situations are transformed into symbols of alienation In our fast paced time I capture the moment just like a video-still

The title of my paintings are mostly not related to the painted objects Most of the time the viewer is directed to a totally different story The real objects from the everyday life in connection with the title become a fiction I consider my paintings as videostills of these stories The still sequence is the same for every viewer, but the story is different for everyone of them

As real as my paintings seem to be , the photo-realistic reproduction should at the same time include the interpretation and evaluation of the shown objects

I am aiming for a deeper resemblance which is more real than the reality !

Christian Pendelio’s marine paintings are more than a depiction of scenery but an imagery of love and voyage Having started his artistic career in water color and comic strip in his teen age, the self-taught artist is most famous for turning the canvases into a surreal fairyland spiced with witty allegories: Man sails across the infinite horizon in search of his love and finally comes home to the love territory in the shape of woman; Sailor cruises to the unknown world with a mermaid as his life guard; Women and girls pay homage to femininity and fertility; Flowers embody the fleetness of life whereas the various sea creatures the carriers of love and romance; In spite of being an island surrounded by the sea, man can still reach out for his beloved with their arms as a bridge

Adventuring towards the boundless ocean of possibilities without imaginary frontier, we are all seeking for love and hope Voyage is a solitary course of discovery while love the destination of every man The pastel palette adds a fancy touch to the landscape, with a salty taste and loving theme

Having shown his talent in art and started selling his watercolor work at an early age, the self-taught artist matured his artistry through constant practice Regularly exhibited in art galleries in various French cities like Paris, Strasbourg and Rennes since 1994, his paintings and sculptures are loved and collected by private collectors worldwide His work mostly centre on dreamlike landscape and stylistic characters that are inseparable from their environment, evoking waves of thoughts and imagination

"Bird, my nomadic garden" is a allegory of harmony. A girl is flying over the world on the top of a ghost bird, which is carrying in his body a village. The roses are outgrowing the village. It was a dreamy story evocating the harmony among animals (the bird), plants (flowers) and humanity The meaning of this painting is beyond words as it is all about fantasy.

Great Wide Open Heidi Hahn (Germany) 2009, Acrylic on canvas cm (W) x 110 cm(H) x 5cm (D) excluded

Heidi Hahn’s works thus become dense living surfaces. They are honest in their substance. Their creation is a tender and accordingly long process It is the consequence of a long struggle and questioning A complex and ever more complex act of painting, the “chasing for light”, whose complexity and lavishness is increasingly concealed, solely recognizable in the result, in a degree of abstraction, whose spherical planes are woven into each other and yet stand alone, depending on the viewer and sight to a new individual creation respectively, becoming a composition of light and feeling.

This is also aptly reflected in the titles, which are not setting limits, but on the contrary engage the viewer: to subjective perceptions, feelings which develop when engaging within the spectrum of the paintings

A beginning, which differs from the artists of the 80ies or 90ies, which finds it origins far back in the era of romanticism, later continued in the impressionism: A painting of colours and lights as a mirror of emotion, as an individual “light- and colour-therapy”, the permission of emotion into art and the recovery of romanticism

Heidi Hahn was born in Nürtingen She started out her studies with dramatics and completed it in art and German language and literature studies In the course of her professional activities she created again and again new events and cultural happenings that endured for a long time Either as a broadcast editor, creative director, or as a cultural attaché and press officer, interspersed by periods as a freelance artist and journalist

Since 2002 Heidi Hahn devotes herself increasingly to major arts projects immediate to nature and bucolic art projects and installations Among other things belong the “muros vivendos”, her already second bucolic art project in Portugal and further projects are planned Heidi Hahn lives and works in Aalen in the south of Germany
