With salty hair and sandy feet, it’s time to swap your board for your gown. Top down, cruise along the Pacific Coast Highway until the curtain of night is pinned by the stars. Destination: Los Angeles. A chance invite from a friend takes you through rolling hills to a secluded enclave, nestled within a woodland canyon. Partygoers roll up, draped in gemstone colors - red jasper, jade, rose quartz, yellow opal, azurite and agate. All are welcome – artists and musicians, bohemians and émigrés. This is where fame and fortune mix with wanderers and nomads and where moguls mingle with children of the ocean. It’s the mystique of Southern California that draws them – days of possibility alongside nights of allure and beauty. Make your way to the courtyard garden, past the heady smells of night- blooming jasmine and moonflowers. Relax and unwind – it’s just a golden state of mind.

Moschino’s bold SS18 collection
fashioninstyle Florals never grow old. They’re always the best thing for spring. But they’ve never bloomed with so much boom as on the Moschino Spring runway for 2018. Jeremy Scott’s Moschino woman starts out as a candy-hued ballerina with a biker girl edge. She blossoms into a prima sophisticate garlanded in couture-quality flower gowns with enough red carpet power to put the Met into metamorphosis. So what’s the choreography of Scott’s dance through Moschino-flavored feminine archetypes, all set to a rhythm of transformative growth? Curtain up! She is a dancer. A pale, peach-touched cream silk ballet dress, studded with Ballet Russes-reminiscent beading in the body but spiked with safety pins in the skirt gently rustles into view. She is powerful. Biker ballerina mixes deconstructed perfectos with tulle-charged skirts sometimes stretched with trains, plus badass boots and jauntily tilted biker caps. Through a landscape of black leather and silver hardware we glimpse signposts, soft silk, fold and bead. Biker bodie and a gray jersey hoodie/ballet dress hybrid hint at off-duty Moschino swan style. She is playful. This season’s Moschino capsule collection - available now - features My Little Pony x Moschino tiesleeve shirts and tanks, accessorized with lunchbox handbags: she canters through tweeny dreamland of tutus in tulle and anything-but-black feathers. The biker iconography recedes into rear view. She is extraordinary. She is revealed as a fully outfitted prima albeit in boots - before a tour en l’air moment of total blossoming. The emphasis shifts from the outfits of ballet to the tokens of adoration a grown up prima should have heaped upon her: flowers. Duchesse silk is wrought into wearable hypersized blooms: a rose, a lily, orchids, peonies, irises. To mark this moment of graduation from pastel caterpillar to a dream of a prima one gown is sculpted to resemble the in-flight wing of a butterfly. Another puts the Moschino woman at the beating heart of a fluttering personal cloud of them. The bouquets tossed upon the stage become the material of the woman as they are a perfect tribute to attire, sometimes complete with stem and wrapping as well as flower. “This is a collection about how far you can go, and how high you can leap. It’s about metamorphosis and beauty and feminine archetypes all set within the codes of Moschino. It’s a dance through the music of fashion,” says the designer. www.moschino.com/wx

fashionfront Each ISOLDA collection blends Brazil’s diverse cultural heritage with global youth culture to create contemporary fashion for modern women. Designing each ISOLDA collection is a collective process that combines the creativity, precision and passion of artists, designers and journalists. Once the mood of the collection is agreed, the team spends months researching the subject matter in galleries, the street, architecture, books and the internet. Each detail in every print is then hand-painted before being arranged by hand with love and careful attention to tell a compelling story, thus making an art out of the creative process. The designs are printed on silk, cotton and other natural fabrics of the highest quality to shape fluid dresses, tailored trousers and fitted tops that can be worn for many occasions in a single day. ISOLDA believes that its uncompromising pursuit of quality makes each piece of clothing more exciting for the wearer and less of an object to the people around her.

The Girl on the Moon “And then what happened?” he said. “His poison filled my veins, numbing every muscle but one.The one he hoped for. I struggled, restless, fighting for survival amidst a war of chemicals. My lust for him crippled my senses. I knew I had to escape. A beam of the northern lights flared through my window as my frail body quivered in agony. That little opening was my beacon of hope, a hope of one day reaching the moon. So, I floated. I floated in an unknown darkness, in a sickening void, until the crescent became my shelter.

Inhale. The moon, this orbiting celestial body is now my home. A place where I thrive in the emptiness, where my soul wanders between constellations looking for lost travelers. I gaze at him and all the other lovers from a distance. I watch the fire eat away my cigarette just as his body ate mine. Exhale. I have nothing left to exhale.”
Ashi’s new collection embraces the tormenting battle of longing to break free. Lunar shaped floor-length sleeves, embroidered to resemble the moon’s craters. A sensual touch of lace and a rugged taffeta especially crafted for the wanderlust souls who crave a cosmic affair.
Rays of ethereal lights emitted by the collection’s pearly tones and a feast of intricate embroidery techniques leave her lovers in awe. www.ashistudio.com

Is thinking like an artist the key to
Success for Entrepreneurs? The dictionary defines an entrepreneur as “a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk.” As an entrepreneur myself, not only is that definition dry, and boring, but most importantly it’s only somewhat accurate. Sure, I manage and organize my business, sure running my business takes initiative and involves risk and while this may answer the nuts and bolts of what it entails to be an entrepreneur it doesn’t answer “why?” What is it about people who inhabit the entrepreneurial tribe that they are willing to take initiative, and to take risk with an idea when often that’s the last thing most people would want to do? When I speak to friends who are not entrepreneurs, I am sure they think I just want to make it big, and in the process become financially successful. But if you are reading this, and you are an entrepreneur yourself, then you will almost certainly agree that money or fame almost never factor into wanting to become an entrepreneur.
32
O N E CO A S T
Credit image: Designed by freepik.com
body&mindmindful lifestyle Then why? I don’t think you ‘want’ to be an entrepreneur at all you ‘need’ to be.This need is driven by an idea, a vision. Finding creative ways then to express those ideas, that vision if you know it or not makes you an entrepreneurial artist. Poet Amy Lowell wrote that art is “the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in.” Being an entrepreneur then is about expressing yourself fully, it’s about stamping your own uniqueness on the world you live in. As entrepreneurial artists, we are different. Just like artists we live in ambiguity, and we enjoy not knowing. Not knowing is the raw material we need to inspire us to go out and to seek ways to manifest our ideas. As Painter Pablo Picasso confessed to a friend, “I don’t know in advance what I am going to put on canvas any more than I decide beforehand what colours I am going to use…Each time I undertake to paint a picture I have a sensation of leaping into space. I never know whether I will fall on my feet. It is only later that I begin to estimate more exactly the effect of my work.” In the same light, entrepreneurs we are driven by an idea, a vision. We often don’t know how we are going to achieve it, but we are willing to trust the sensation that arises within in us, and, just like Picasso, leap into the unknown, risking it all. Entrepreneurs know that at the potential edge of failure lies creativity and innovation. It is only at the edge that one can achieve success. I cannot tell you how many times I have, as an entrepreneur spurred on by a vision thrown myself completely into an idea, yet not knowing how it was going to turn out. At the same time, I was doing this, I had people around me (often the non-entrepreneurs) saying, “Don’t do it”. But they don’t understand, to not do it, would be to disavow my creative spirit. Not having all the answers, but going for it anyway, because something deep inside you says, “You have too” is what entrepreneurs do.As the Latin American novelist Isabel Allende noted, “Somehow inside me I can say this after having written five books I know that I know where I am going. I know that I know the end of the book even though I don’t know it. It’s so difficult to explain.”
If, as entrepreneurs, we see ourselves as artists first, then we don’t need a roadmap for success. Rather we just need to trust our art, our creativity in other words our passionate embrace of our ideas, our vision. Composer Igor Stravinsky knew this all to well when he explained that his work began with an “intuitive grasp of an unknown entity already possessed but not yet intelligible”. Elizabeth Gilbert in, Big Magic suggests that the “universe buries strange jewels deep within us all, and then stands back to see if we can find them.” When as an entrepreneur you set lose your creative ideas on the world, you do so with the trust that the buried jewels in the universe will find its way into existence. All my successful ideas as an entrepreneur have been as Josef Albers, German-born American artist and educator, suggests the bringing into existence the “discrepancy between physical fact and psychic effect”. The outcome as Max Bill, Swiss architect, artist, painter, notes is the “expression of the human spirit” where abstract ideas that previously existed “only in the mind are made visible in a concrete form.” If you are an entrepreneur you may not think of yourself as an artist. But as Seth Godin notes in Linchpin, “Art isn’t only a painting…An artist is someone who uses bravery, insight, creativity, and boldness to challenge the status quo.And artist’s takes it personally.” I know my ideas are challenging the status quo. That’s what makes being an entrepreneur so exhilarating. As an entrepreneur, it is undeniable that what you bring to life is creative, passionate, and personal. We all as entrepreneurs want what we ‘create’ as Godin notes to “resonates with the viewer [our clients], not only with [us as] the creator.” It is now easier than ever to become an entrepreneur. But to be successful in my opinion, to resonate with the right people, you need to trust your creative spirit, challenge the status quo, and ignore the nay sayers. Don’t approach your business as a business to make profit, but rather as a canvas to fully express yourself, and your ideas. As Elizabeth Gilbert in, Big Magic further reminds us “Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions.Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart.” The money will come!

focusabout her
Well we are starting off 2018 with a really exciting One Coast magazine, if you’ve got this far you will not be disappointed. Our “About Her” interview catches up with another beautiful personality from Bangkok, Wimintra J, founder and Editor in Chief of Hotelintel.co, a B2B online publication focused on the hotel industry. Young, outspoken, sexy and successful Wimintra is well known and very respected in the business world. Of course, One Coast had to find out more
Wimintra Wimintra, welcome to One Coast Magazine, would you tell us where you were born and where you went to study? I was born and raised in Bangkok, and graduated in Political Science, International Relations, from Kasetsart University. I’m currently taking a Micros MBA in Hospitality Management at Hong Kong PolyU, which is an online course. Hopefully, I get to complete the MBA next year. What did you do before founding Hotelintel.co? I started off in business development for a recruitment company, and always enjoyed doing B2B, meeting people, making connections, and selling them something. After that, I started a uniform business because I found myself wearing white shirts to work every day and wanted a really nice white shirt, so I started to sell 100% Egyptian cotton shirts. One day a friend of mine who owns a restaurant asked if I could make shirts for his staff, so I did and I thought this was better than selling B2C. I then started to look for a place to promote my uniforms and came across an online platform for hotels. I helped them out by writing for them in exchange for the chance to get lots of hotel industry contacts to sell uniforms.
As it turned out I didn’t sell all that much but spent most of my time interviewing people and travelling. In the long run that didn’t quite work out so later I started Hotelintel.co on my own – although I do still make uniforms but that’s a separate business. Already being successful in your previous work, what gave you the prerogative to go out on your own? I’d like to say I have rich parents with a strong business background, but I don’t, so it wasn’t easy. Even today my mom still asks me why don’t I go get a job at some government office and live happily ever after. Instead I took risks, and to be honest there were times when I thought mom might be right. But then I know what I want – I always want to be my own boss. Plus, I wouldn’t last too long in an office setting, I wouldn’t fit in with the whole lemming culture, do what you are told, listen to the eldest, don’t ever ask questions. So, I pushed through. It didn’t take a lot of money to get started, and I didn’t build the whole thing all at once, it started bit by bit. Another thing is my partner has always been supportive. He sometimes believes in me more than I believe in myself, and that helps a lot.
O N E CO A S T
35
Explain to us a little about the concept of Hotelintel.co? Hotelintel.co is built with the concept of forming an intelligence community. I want it to be a community where we can share news, insights – intel. From the website, it’s an online publication with VDO interviews, podcasts, and so on, but there’s more to it than just the website. People come to me and ask if they should hire this person, or use that product for their hotels. Some hotels will ask us to do surveys for them, or help writing their own promotional material or website content. I also get to do lots of keynote presentations and PR training for hotels. (Sometimes they’re curious why I don’t pick up their news so they ask me to talk about it, which is really good. There aren’t a lot of hotels like this – the rest are either too proud or too ignorant to ever learn about media.) We also help suppliers improve their products because honestly, I don’t want to endorse a bad product to my community as it will reflect badly on me. I learned that lesson in the early days when some company paid us to write about them and it turned out their product was just so bad that nobody in the industry would use it. Our revenues are mostly coming from advertising, but rather than just publish other people’s news or write about it, we pride ourselves on doing market research for our clients and we love to be creative, so we do a lot of videos and events for our clients as well.
How many people work for you now? Four wonder people. And a few millennial freelancers. Where would you say your success lies in this business? On a personal level it’s in determination. You need to know what you want and go for it.You don’t know where it will lead but you just do it, try it, make mistakes, and fix it.When people see you are determined to do something, they want to help. They want to be part of you, support you, I got to where I am today because of help from people. When I first started, I didn’t know anyone – I still remember it was Franck Cloven, Robert Rijnders, and Michael Thomas whose help connected me with other people who agreed to have me interview them. From those beginnings I have come to know so many other amazing hoteliers I’ve interviewed, including people like Bill Heinecke. Another thing is to be fair to other people, your clients, your employees, and your business counterparts. You can mess up but you must always be a ‘fair’ person, and then people will want to work with you. You are well known and very respected for being outspoken, a trait not normally associated with Thais in general and especially not a female. You are notorious for getting to the facts and talking straight to everyone, whether it’s the CEO or the room maid, this must have at some point have caused a bit of a stir and if I know you there will be one good story for you to tell us? Maybe some of my stories might not be suitable for public consumption – but it’s true that I like to ask questions. I think it’s important to be honest and to respect other people’s time so a direct approach can be a good thing. In an interview you want to give the interviewee a chance to tell their side of the story, so it’s not really causing a stir to try to get an honest insight. But one thing I refuse to do is to follow the Thai “Pee” and “Nong” hierarchical structure, because it mainly serves to put people in their place and respect should be earned. I remember one lady the same age as me who would always insist on calling me Nong Wimintra, basically trying to put me in the lower position. I always referred to her as “Khun”, because Khun makes everyone equal. That’s another reason why it’s better to use English in business. What are your plans for the future? I want Hotelintel.co to be successful on a global scale. We could move our office to Shanghai or New York and I can see my editor working 23 hours a day!!! Being well travelled, what is your favourite city? Hong Kong will always be my second home. I’ve spent a lot of time there so I know my way around and have a lot of friends there. But Shanghai is my new favourite city to do business. On a three-day trip to Shanghai you get more business done than in three months in Southeast Asia. O N E CO A S T
37
You base your business out of Bangkok, what makes this city so special for you? Even though I said Shanghai is a great place to do business, the cost that comes with it is also high – although still less than Hong Kong and Singapore in my opinion.Thailand being my home country is automatically my first choice. It’s also a natural way of setting up a business as well, being a local doing business in your own country is always better than the other way around. Tonight, you and your partner Stuart are going for an evening drink, then a dinner for two, where do you go and what do you choose? We eat out every night because we are both lousy cooks. Usually we go to Oskar for dinner because it’s close to home and the food is very good. On special occasions we like to try something new and our first selection always has to be a place that serves black and blue steak. There are only a few places that can pull that off properly – I’d say Cocotte is our favourite place to go for steaks. If there is one thing in the industry you could change, what would that be? This is a people business. It takes people to do business. Without people you can’t do business. Without business you can’t pay people either, so treat people fairly, not only your employees but also the media and your suppliers and contractors because one day these people could also be your guests. Hotels pride themselves on being in a people business but there are plenty of times when hoteliers mistreat their own employees or their suppliers just because they aren’t guests. But don’t forget that these people can influence others and might well be potential guests one day. There are stories I’ve experienced or witnessed which are outrages, and sometimes I’m tempted to write about it – but usually I just post it on my Facebook. Another thing is that everyone is trying to do business, so hotels and PR agencies shouldn’t always expect free things from the media. You can’t always barter your rooms with the media. Can I move into your hotel for a year and you can have a whole year’s worth of advertising because now I can’t pay my bills and my staff and have nowhere to live? Everything has a cost. It should be a win-win situation for everyone. Sometimes you win 20-80, sometimes you win 50-50 – it depends on what you want and how good at negotiation you are, but there should be something for everyone and not everything free. We all are here for business so let’s do business and don’t always try to screw each other. And one last thing, can we please stop being fashionably late? Thank you for your time Wimintra, I look forward to seeing you again in Bangkok soon.

focusabout him
Dan Remon Our One Coast About Him interview this edition features entrepreneur and International fitness professional Dan Remon. In1998 Dan bought a one-way ticket and left his home in Sydney to travel the world. Now 20 years later, although settled with a successful fitness business in Bangkok that drive and passion is still undaunted. Still dedicating much of his life to “Giving Something Back” his mission is still to impact one million lives through health, education, mindset and a higher level of contribution to those less fortunate. Of course, we had to find out more. Dan, welcome to One Coast Magazine. You are originally from Sydney in Australia and left in 1998. When you actually got on that plane back then, what were your plans and what were you thinking?
Thanks Crispin, it’s a pleasure to be here. Gosh, it still seems like yesterday. I didn’t have many opportunities to travel when i was young, so I have always had that bug, that desire to just explore and travel the world. I’d much rather be watching national geographic than cartoons. I just couldn’t wait to be old enough to jump on a plane and see where the wind took me. My plan was to travel Europe for 6-8 months, and then likely settle in London and work in the fitness industry. But this time my plans were a little delayed. My original plan was to leave straight after High School. Then I was accepted to University, and decided it was best to work in the industry for a year or two, save some money and get that essential experience before embarking on my adventure. One of my clients was the Producer for Wide World of Sports in Australia, and that year was also the Commonwealth Games in Malaysia. So, I had my oneway ticket to UK and a return ticket from London to Singapore, to work at the games, travel Asia for 6 months and then return to London. Well, that return trip to London never happened :)
Where did your travels take you?
I landed in London and travelled all of western Europe for the summer, from the UK, Germany, Austria, France, Spain and Greece. Spent a lot of time in the Greek Islands, South of France and Spain. Close to the ocean of course and always following the sun. Then I took the offer to work at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in KL, so off I went! After the Games I travelled through Malaysia, and then into Thailand. I’d actually applied for a position at some ‘famous health resort’ in Hua Hin and had no idea what it was about, so thought I would visit and see what it was all about. I was offered the position, but delayed my start so I could travel around before settling in to a full-time job. At 15,000 Baht per month, there wasn’t a massive incentive to start working immediately! I took the job anyway. In between jobs I’ve travelled all through Asia, all of Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bali, Philippines, Cambodia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Laos, China, Nepal, Bhutan India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and the Maldives. What made you settle in Bangkok?
I had been living in Hua Hin for 2 years, then India and back with another resort group for another 2, and thought I should venture to the Americas. I’d always wanted to travel South America and of course the US being the mecca of the fitness industry, it made sense to check out the scene there. I consulted in Mexico developing health retreats there and looked into the east and west coasts, mainly New York, Miami, LA, San Diego and felt if I was going to pioneer an industry, I needed to do it back in Asia. As there was close to no industry in Bangkok, and that’s where I had been based for a few years, that’s where I needed to be. So that’s what I did.

Tell us a little about the thought process and concept behind “The Aspire Club”?
Aspire, to me, is everything the industry needs to be about. Results. So, over the last 22 years in the industry, I developed systems, mastered psychology and identified what were the essential elements that enable people to achieve better results than others. It’s not just about working out, training and eating healthy. And in addition to the results, it was what keeps people motivated to live consistently active life. To inspire others. Changing lifestyles and improving lives was always the goal. So, in addition to the training, strategic nutrition, it was to identify WHY people wanted to achieve goals. And that the essence of aspire. Community, results, confidence, seeing and feeling the benefits in all areas of their life, not just their physical appearance. Helping clients get pain free and move better is also an important component. Overall lifestyle enhancement or ‘Energy Management” I like to call it. Aspire Clubs success is indisputable, what are your future plans?
I’ve worked hard to grow this business organically, and with the highest standards in the industry. To really grow that is tough. So, the focus is to continue to improve on what we already do and continue to leverage our expertise in corporate wellness and health retreats as well as increase our exposure through our online training and coaching programs worldwide. To leverage technology rather than through traditional brick and mortar locations.
It’s a different ball game now, and if you want to grow, you need leverage through tech, expand your reach and be able to connect with people all over the world. In 2008 and 2012 you had much to do with the Olympic Games in the UK, what were you doing there?
Yes, I have been super fortunate to work with some of the world’s best athletes. Singapore was the inaugural Youth Olympics, and London of course was the highlight for the 2012 Olympic Games. I was managing and supporting the athletes training facilities inside the Athletes Village. That was an intense 2 weeks. Long days yet super exciting. I had the chance to work and train national teams and meet hundreds of incredible athletes, coaches. An incredible experience and thankful for my long-time association and Master Trainer with Technogym all these years that led to that opportunity. Your travels and work have taken you far and wide, what is one of your most enlightening experiences you could share with us?
Way too many! Hard to pick just one, but trekking to Everest Base Camp for the first time is definitely enlightening and I highly recommend everyone to get to Nepal at least once. When you’re up there, on top of the world, you realize how small you are and how insignificant your challenges really are in the big picture. And it’s an incredible experience that not many people every have the chance to do.

You received an impressive Bangkok Entrepreneur award is that right?
It’s nice to be recognized for your contribution to an industry, especially as an expat and away from home. There really needs to be more emphasis on recognizing the amazing community of expats who are not only building businesses, contributing greatly to the Thai economy through innovation, employing hundreds of people and sharing our expertise to enhance the local people and industries. Giving something back has always been important to you, what are you concentrating on now?
We are on this planet for a very short time, and I feel it is our responsibility to giving back, and contribute to society. Either through raising money, awareness, giving our time, and increasing awareness of the reality is a reflection of where we are in society, how fortunate we are and that we can help thousands more with just a single decision. So I incorporate my travels, lust for adventure into charity projects. I take a group trekking to Everest Base Camp or somewhere in Nepal every year, so I always ensure we have a high purpose to assist where we can. Locally in Thailand, we raise money through special fitness events, programs and also give our time to help build schools, educate kids, donate clothes and sporting goods to lesser known communities and schools. They are our chosen projects in Bangkok slums, on the outskirts and also in the provinces and also in other countries. Some of our clients are involved in their own projects in Cambodia, Laos, India and Nepal so I choose to help support their projects too. What does an aspiring fitness professional do in his spare time?
Two ends of the spectrum. Either super chilled, beaches, islands or by the pool, in the sun or I’m a complete adrenaline junkie! Motorbikes, Wakeboarding, Skydiving, Scuba Diving, Paragliding, travelling! Anything in the outdoors, exploring, and getting off road, off the grid and back to nature. And of course, travelling the world. I’ve been fortunate to create an incredible life and have travelled extensively. There is always somewhere new to discover. You have been an inspiration to many people through your life and work, where does your drive and passion come from?
I ask myself this question every day! My greatest joy is in seeing my clients achieve tremendous success in their life, and by using fitness as their foundation. I really believe this is the catalyst for success in all areas of life. When you can help people achieve their goals, you will achieve yours too. It may not be easy, but it’s worth it. Tonight, you are taking your family to your favorite restaurant, where do you do and what would you choose?
One of my favorite places for dinner is on the river, overlooking Wat Arun at night… I love the combination of culture, history and great food! The perfect combination.

Whisgars Whisgars 23 – Whisky and Cigars for Afficionados on Sukhumvit Soi 23 46
O N E CO A S T
lifestylehot spot
Going down Sukhumvit Soi 23, the taxi driver may assume that you‘ll be getting off at Soi Cowboy, which goes between Soi 23 and Asok Montri. However, you should ask the driver to take you just a bit further down the street.A couple of hundred meters after the (in)famous Soi Cowboy, you’ll find the Whisgars complex on the right nestled under some trees where the Italian restaurant Giusto used to be in the ‘old days‘. Today, the complex houses Craft with over 40 craft beers on tap, the Little Wine Bar, Slanted Taco, and finally Whisgars, which is a veritable gem worth visiting for any discerning traveller with a palate attuned to good single malts and cigars. In the late afternoon, it can be inviting to sit down at one of the benches outside in the Craft area and sip a cold IPA and feel the evening calm settle over Bangkok while the nearby towering condos light up and the myriad of lights over the Craft area are lighted. By all means, do so, and remember to ask for the Pastrami Sandwich to accompany your beer – people in the know compare this sandwich to the best of the best pastrami sandwiches of New York; ample slices of pastrami, some pickles and all of it neatly nestled between two pieces of roasted rye bread. Personally, I‘d say this is one of the best pastrami sandwiches I‘ve ever had – in Bangkok, or otherwise. O N E CO A S T
47
Once your palate has processed this sumptuous meal, do yourself a favour and go down the corridor leading to Whisgars itself – the premier place in Bangkok for whisky and cigars (hence, Whisgars, aha!) and let your body settle into one of the many deep leather chairs or couches. If you are a whisky and cigar afficionado, you’ll definitely find something that will caress your palate just as much as the pastrami sandwich and craft bee did earlier on. Personally, I like to start out with a creamy Perdomo Champagne 10 Year Anniversary cigar (with notes of saw dust and maple syrup) to go with, say, a smooth MacAllan single cask. If you instead want to try out a little bit of everything, Whisgars have some impressive whisky flights at reasonable 700 – 1,400 baht ++ where you can either try out some of the characteristic single malts from the different Scottish regions (Speyside, Lowland, Highland and Islay), from the Islands, or just go on a smoky and peaty tour through some of the iconic Islay distilleries. The latter flight would drown out the delicate tastes of the aforementioned cigar, but fortunately they have the Perdomo Champagne Noir 10 Year Anniversary too, which will be a much better choice to go with this flight. 48
O N E CO A S T
Whisgars has a ‘Pairing of the Month’, where their Cigar Curator has paired a cigar and a whisky or rum that goes exceptionally well together. These pairings are usually quite good value for money. As your taste profile may differ from that of the pairing of the month,Whisgars fortunately has a very well-stocked bar, where the entire length behind the bar showcases a multitude of whiskies from all around the world. Also, the knowledgeable staff can easily find you a cigar in the sizeable humidor from well-known brands as well as small boutique blends, and in whichever vitola that suits you. If you feel adventurous cigar wise, this is the place to go for anything Nicaraguan, Dominican or Honduran. As the evening draws on, you may notice a jazz band setting up at the small stage just next to the bar, and you’ll be tempted to stay a while longer. While you wait for the music to start, you may take a pick-me-up Espresso-Martini or sample one of their other tasty cocktails. And, if you are feeling a tad peckish, it may be time to try out some of the freshly-made tacos (3 for 270++) from Slanted Taco to go with that drink of yours, or perhaps it is time for dessert?
As the music kicks off, it is time for a second whisky and cigar. Being later in the evening, I would go for something ‘darker’ and more powerful – from the humidor, I would select a Gurkha Ghost, and I would take and Ardbeg Ten to go with it.With those two in hand, I can confidently take whatever jazz-solos the band may throw at me … Oh, and if you come to Whisgars on a Tuesday, Sagar Choksi, the Bangkok Magician, will show you some close-up magic that is totally out of this world. Some of his tricks will make you wonder if he actually is a magician in the old-fashioned pointy-hat kind of way! And, as he is a fellow whisky and cigar afficionado, he can actually recommend other delightful pairings too, as well as show you some very impressive card tricks at your table. As the evening draws to a close, all of your senses will have been well-entertained, and you will have tried some top-shelf whiskies and cigars. Now, just remember to go straight home and not be lured by the sparkling lights (and other sights) further down the street ... The Survival Bike
for Special Ops
www.motoped.com
lifestylecoast ride Motoped’s Black Ops This is not just a fancy motorized bicycle, Motopeds are much more sophisticated — so they can serve as on-road and off-road carriages. The downhill mountain-bike parts are mounted to a light custom frame and swing arm and have tough mountain-bike suspensions. When the motor is on, the rider can either choose to pedal or not. Whatever is sending the most power to the jack shaft which will turn the rear wheel, so the rider can also help the motor by pedalling. According to the maker, riding it with the motor off on a steep trail feels like the rider is pedalling a heavy mountain bike. This military-inspired Motopeds Survival Bike: Black Ops Edition, comes fitted with a universal rack that accepts a myriad of bolt-on mounts, harnesses, and fitments so you can pack along darned near anything you can imagine. The Armageddon ready ride is built with the same kit as the standard Motoped, but comes with a bunch of action ready accessories to choose from, including a crossbow, two gas packs, a survival shovel, a harpoon, a blade, a saw, carabiners, an axe, climbing rope, flashlight, and a lot more. Need a strong, high-mileage rugged transport that rides on roads and trails? Motoped’s Black Ops motorized bike gets around 100 mpg, a 3-hp gas engine, and a friction drive putting power directly onto the back wheel. You’d pedal to get it started, then hold tight on the handlebars to go up to 30 to 40 mph. A primary fuel tank plus the added fuel from two optional red side-mounted fuel tanks will take you 250 to 300 miles without a fill-up. That’s a good thing when you’re traveling through the desert on a horse with no name. . . This bike was built for the creative survivalist. Apply your favourite gear and escape with your life. The Motoped’s drive train combines the engine drive with the pedal drive through a jack-shaft located in the swing-arm pivot. Thus, the rearwheel drive chain is not loosening and tightening as the rear suspension travels through its arc. Also, this allows for one chain going to the rear wheel, unlike most motorized bikes which use two chains to the rear wheel. Motoped says that with a stock 50-cc engine, the bike will go at least 30 mph. With 4-speed transmissions and bigger power plants (88-cc, 110cc, and 140-cc engines), speeds rise to 45 to 65 mph. Any Honda 50cc to 150cc horizontal OHC motors can be mounted to the Motoped frame. Also, in day-to-day use, you get to ride in the bike lane, which can be a huge advantage over a motorcycle or car in an urban area with a lot of traffic and congestion. Another advantage a motorized bike has is parking — you can park it anywhere you can park a bike. A motorcycle cannot legally be ridden up onto and parked on a sidewalk. If you live in an area where parking is impossible, this is probably best benefit of all. O N E CO A S T

Velar
The first Land Rover was originally conceived in 1947, since the very early days Land Rovers served proudly in the UK Forces becoming a steadfast symbol of the British Army. Although it was mainly the UK who ordered them first, many other countries followed. 1970 was the unveiling of the first-ever Range Rover, the vehicle, known as the world’s most luxurious SUV with outstanding off-road capability, which has till today continuously evolved with inspirationally designs and technological advances setting it apart.
The new 2018 Range Rover Velar The “Velar” in 2018 Range Rover Velar, was named after the first Range Rover prototypes of the 1960s and is Latin for “veiled,” Press the Velar’s remote and its door handles deploy from a clean fit with the flush sheet metal. Starting from a certainly not underpowered 178bhp 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel, which is good for a top speed of 210kmph.These go up to a 3.0-litre diesel V6 which takes another step towards force over greenness, with 296bhp, a top speed of 240kmh.

Indulging in India One Coast discovers the true opulence of the Maharajahs
In my ignorance I’d never really considered India as a ‘luxury tourist’ destination. Colourful – yes, intense – certainly, energetic – without doubt…but luxurious? However, this pre-conceived notion could not be further from the truth; during my brief trip, India waved numerous 5 star, residences under my nose, alongside a selection of some of the best food I’ve ever tasted. But the best thing about India’s luxury market? Put simply, it is quite unlike anything you will find elsewhere. Magnificent resorts are over flowing with cultural relevance and character. A hotel is not merely a well-built structure, but a 230 year old fort, sympathetically revived with the strictest of architectural care and attention, or a floating water palace situated in the centre of a lake. The historical ruins that form the very backbone of India’s landscape are beginning to be utalised up and down the country for luxury accommodation. This could be a dangerous path, with stunning heritage remains being ripped apart and commercialised but so far India has paid strict attention to the details and authenticity, creating a virtual trip through Mughal history on your visit. Aside from the luxury accommodation India is a holiday of plenty – tastes, sunsets, vistas, baazars and temples punctuated by some of the most welcoming people you will ever meet. India is a country so deep and rich in personality that a ‘holiday’ there barely scratches the surface, but with help from some fantastic local sources we have tried to bring you a suggestion of what this magnificent country has to offer. 66

Delhi’s narrow streets stand in vast contrast to the wide tree lined roads running around the city. In the centre Jaisalmer’s avenues are bustling with vendors trading in handmade leather, eye-catching fabrics, jewellery, spices and trinkets. Busy, yes, but also vibrant and exciting and overwhelmingly friendly. With such a dramatic and stark history, Delhi hides crumbling forts and tombs around every corner. Stand out sights for us were; Humanyu’s Tomb – inspiring the building of the Taj Mahal with its palm tree lined elegance, the dynastic Red Fort that housed the last Mughal emperor of Delhi and Ghandi’s memorial for a stringent reminder of India’s struggle for independence. Where to stay? Andaz, Hyatt Located in Aerocity next to Indira Gandhi International airport, Andaz Delhi is a popular haunt for the travelling business crew. Despite this, the hotel is brimming with individuality and character. The Andaz prides itself on being unique where people can be themselves, unexpected for somewhere in the business zone. The ‘Pink City’ is truly as charming as its name. Glimmering rose in the morning before fading to a dusky hue at sunset, the pink walls of Jaipur create a soft and inviting atmosphere to this busy and popular destination. No other building epitomises the grandeur and delicacy of the architecture here than the Hawa Mahal. Constructed to imitate the crown of Krishna, countless winking windows intricately designed look out on the busy street below, originally allowing the Royal ladies to watch the daily proceedings in modest privacy. India’s many imposing forts are a manifestation of its struggles and triumphs , these more than anything else on the trip captivated my imagination, and none more so that the Amber Fort. Mumbai
Don’t tell Delhi, but of all the places we visited in India I think I liked Mumbai the most. Maybe it is the closeness of the ocean or just the palpable happiness that it creates in Bombayites, who were spotted gazing out at the waves despite the imminent heavy downpour. Maybe it is the mix of old and new the saturates every street with Chattrapati Terminus nestling next to towering glass high rises. But most of all I think it is the people. As in coastal areas across the world, Mumbai draws people from all over India creating a hive of cultures, foods and customs. This permeates the atmosphere so that all visitors ae instantly made to feel at once welcomed and unheeded. In a city so full of visitors one is able to instantly fit in. Where to stay? The St Regis From the countries tallest hotel tower you could easily forget that you are in the bustling intensity of Mumbai. Start you day with an unforgettable breakfast before investigating the in-house art exhibitions and unwinding in Iridium spa. In the evening take in the live pianist as you sip champagne in the signature St Regis lobby overlooked by the grand staircase before retiring to the Sahib bar and Kipling bar for an exquisite taste of Indian delicacies.

It is hard to find a bad angle in Udaipur, every glimpse is a picture, every vista a magazine cover. But when viewing beautiful sights it is important to remember that distance can often amplify their splendour. In this way viewing Udaipur from above at Fateh Garh allowed us to gain an unseen viewpoint of the city. A splattering of mirrored lakes adorned by a floating palace, surrounded by a labyrinth of alleys and watched by an imposing Monsoon palace perched gravely atop a hill. Out of all the cities, Udaipur had the slowest pace, here it was all too easy to while away an afternoon haggling over textlies and sipping chai at the side of the lake. But if you are craving historical input wander over to the 16th century City Palace to marvel at the fusion of Rajisthani and Mughal styles. Where to stay? Fateh Garh A pioneer in sustainable, ethical and responsible tourism the Fateh Garh brand stands out amongst a multitude of corporate brands. The architectural style is based around restored antique pieces reinstated with designer precision into newer buildings. This contrast of old and new characterises Fateh Garh as does the presence of spectacular views in each of their hotels. Without doubt an Indian luxury brand with a difference, service with a smile is a given here.
Pune

The wonder of this city lies in its natural beauty, after the hustle and bustle of the big cities Pune is a welcome escape into the countryside. Hillside panoramic views convince even the most determined city dweller of the benefits of rural life. Where to stay? oday’s jewelry market is abuzz with amazing types of haute joaillerie bursting from every nook and corner of the globe. What’s common among all of them in essence? It’s not that difficult to guess why. They all have incredible high quality and beauty touches that no one can ever feel like passing by. When it comes to this competitive field, India’s very young and bold jewelry designers are carving out a niche of their own. One such latest sensation to come out and turn heads with her enticingly designed jewels is the young and gorgeous Neha Dani, currently based in New Delhi. Dani has always been intrigued by a well-made, intricate piece of jewelry. After all, India traditionally has had many techniques of jewelry making from old cut diamonds cased in beautifully enameled gold, to dye-struck and embossed temple jewelry. “I also traveled extensively as a child and was fortunate to experience some very beautiful pieces of jewelry in some of the most prominent museums. Thanks to my fascination with the designs, my overall curiosity towards the gemstones brought me to the world of jewelry design,” she says. This interest promptly led her to study gemology, techniques of wax carving and jewelry designing at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). As she was determined to acquire a degree of absolute perfection in it, she went on to further enhance her knowledge about gemstones by qualifying from the Gemological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A). It’s no wonder that her creations have a unique flair. When asked what makes them so and how she tends to achieve it, she says, “My passion for it makes me create such tantalizing designs in the first place. I spend endless hours working and reworking my creations until it seems perfect to me. I’m always trying to exhibit that perfect balance which ultimately goes on to bring out the magical sheen I’m looking for in the metals and gemstones I work with.” She draws inspiration from the intricacies that one can see in Indian architecture, Indian paintings and weaving of fabrics. “My creations are more contemporary in style but with that same unequivocal detail,” she says. Besides, human emotions are Dani’s very first vessel for inspiration in her real life. “I believe that nature in the form of blossoming flowers, shrinking leaves, the moving clouds, flowing water, splashing of sea waves all seem to carry the same emotions that we humans often demonstrate in one form or another. This is the reason why I’m largely inspired by every form of nature and make sure to closely observe it,” she says. “It’s so enriching for my soul.” 72

Sourcing the stones, she tells us, is a tricky business. You need to be very attentive about it. “It depends on the gemstone as each one has a specific market and it’s best to source it from its country of origin if possible,” she says. Historically, jewelry was worn mostly by aristocratic families and as a prime symbol of ritual and tradition. It was more customary to wear jewelry then. But in the 21st century, the major focus of it when worn is to reflect a style statement or a bit of one’s personality. For women, buying jewelry isn’t a fad. It’s something they feel emotionally attached to. So they look for extraordinary pieces that define their status quo perfectly. “I would say often times it’s that particular piece that speaks about her as a person, her personality, her style. This is what she wants to have for herself,” Dani says. And her jewelry is intended for women who are connoisseurs of fine works of art, and who would treasure as well as wear the pieces with the same passion she shows in creating them. It’s not surprising why. Dani doesn’t necessarily visualize a woman’s figure to design a piece – her emotion is enough to bring out the best in every creation. And it’s not long before her magnificent creations are sought by women from the Middle East where the demand for such exquisite pieces is quite high. As she explains, “As mine is a new brand, I’m just getting started on my international business, but we had tremendous feedback from an event that we did in Abu Dhabi some years back with Moda Operandi. I believe that type of relationship sets the tone for great progress in the days to come.”
She also thinks that it’s quite important to showcase one’s creative work in high-profile exhibitions as it really has the right audience to appreciate all of the work that has gone into the collection. Her “Cadence” collection is inspired from aquatic plants, coral reef and the underwater world per say. “I tried to capture the fluidity and movement of the plants as they rhythmically sway along with water. Their vibrant colors (created with brightly-hued rhodium plating in blues, greens and purples) and movement also symbolize the essence of femininity,” she says. Her upcoming collection is dramatically different as it is all white – inspired by the ocean waves and splash. “I chose white to represent the calming rhythm of the sound of ocean waves, and a splashing wave is always poetic and romantic. The pieces are very detailed and minutely carved to bring out the wave effect and are further enhanced by white round rose cut diamonds,” she says.
Isabis ring
As to why she chose white all of a sudden, she clarifies by saying, “I think the sequence of the underwater plant collection – so bright and colorful – followed by an all white, pristine ocean spray collection, is capturing how each one of us have a vibrant inner self and a composed personality on the outside. It’s a balance each woman strives for in her life.” All in all, Dani’s relentless effort to add a regal touch to what she does best is proof that how much jewelry design means to her. “It’s a form of expression for me and the wearer,” she says.

The Lebanese couture designer weaving magic into his collections
By Nagmani

fashioninterview The mesmerizing world of haute couture is perfectly exemplified as a palatial art form of designing one-of-a-kind dresses with as many intricate techniques as possible to make it look absolutely refined. To start with, the credit for this remarkable phenomenon as it seems distinctly apparent today goes to the established skilled couture designers or the new ones we have emerging from Lebanon as they are making the red carpet extravaganza and other galas more glamorous and memorable with their couture dresses, fueled by the A-list stars’ choice of them for such special occasions. The latest head-turner to have joined the club of elite Lebanese couture designers is Saiid Kobeisy who possesses an incredible way of designing couture gowns similar to mosaic thanks to powerful visions that unequivocally arise like sea waves in his mind. It comes as no surprise that his new collection titled “Whispers of the Sea is one such great example toward bringing to life that higher level of superiority and panache as often sought by women of sophisticated taste in any high society. In an exclusive interview with One Coast, we caught up with him to find out what got him excited enough about fashion to delve himself wholeheartedly into it at first and make a career out of it, what it stands for him and much more.

Kobeisy’s intense love of fashion sprouted in his teenage years. His father ran a boutique selling evening dresses. This is where he always went to in his free time to interact with the customers in order to guide them through things like what would look good on them in the most appropriate sense. “I felt quite encouraged when they believed what I recommended for them and embraced it with open arms. That’s how it occurred to me that fashion would only be my true calling,” he said. He then went on to study fashion design, and launched his own couture brand in 2002 with the opening of the first Saiid Kobeisy atelier in Beirut, Lebanon. This came about when he realized he was fully geared up for it. “It was my passion and I had an eye for it leading me to start my own label,” he said.

With so many couture brands competing against one another in the fashion industry, it becomes even more binding for them to come up with something that truly represents their status symbol in the market, making it easier for women customers to choose what appeals to them most. And it’s amazing to know that the signature of the Saiid Kobeisy brand is precisely known for its silhouette rich in light structures, high collars and playful volumes with a touch of gold and ivory cream colors.
Inspiration and muse He often gets inspired by the strength, determination and success of the modern-day women. Besides, he understands them so well. That’s what motivates him to design such extraordinary couture collections. When it comes to dwelling on his muse, there is none like Christian Dior who as a designer and person has always titillated his imagination. “We’ve witnessed brilliant fashion designers throughout history who’ve created trends and masterpieces. What makes Christian Dior my muse, however, is his ability to create ageless silhouettes,” Kobeisy said. Women who wear his creations are quite aware of what they want. They are simply seeking out a means of self-expression through his designs that celebrate their individuality as well as reflect their identity. As a matter of fact, the perfect woman that he visualizes to be looking one hundred percent dazzling in his couture dresses is someone whose brilliance stems from her self-confidence, determination and willpower. “My designs are a pure reflection of a woman’s desire to look after herself in the most sensual and feminine ways. She concentrates on what she wants to highlight in her silhouette rather than seeking at all costs to mask this or that part of her anatomy,” he said. “She’s not afraid to leave her mark and she never goes unnoticed wherever she makes her presence felt.” Not only that, he has launched his ready-to-wear bridal line that’s primarily focused on women who are bold, elegant and unconventional. This line is characterized by its high-end quality and exquisite designs. The generous volumes, flowing contours, and feminine cuts come together to produce a unique collection for the bride’s night to remember. As for the fabrics, he uses lace Chantilly sourced from France and brocade sourced from Italy. “The majority of our fabrics are hand-embroidered in our atelier in Beirut,” he said.
saiid-kobeisy.com
Lebanese heritage and Middle Eastern women Even though he gets intrigued by various cultures in general for their distinctiveness, he can’t help being very considerate about his own Lebanese heritage. “It plays a big role in my love and appreciation for details, craftsmanship and luxury,” Kobeisy said. “I take pride in our ability as Lebanese designers to bring our culture and vision to the forefront of the fashion industry.” There is no denying that women in the Middle East are extremely sophisticated when it comes to seeking out the best; be it fashion or anything else. They know what they want.“I truly admire the elegance of Middle Eastern women along with their love and appreciation for luxury. The fact that they’re very cultured and travel frequently is what truly makes them fashion-forward trendsetters,” he said. Talking further about his latest collection “Whispers of the Sea” he explained, “The inspirational idea for it came from Atlantis, a Utopian Greek lost city submerged at the cold deep Atlantic Ocean.Another mystery regarding this was whether such a thing exists or not in the first place.” He also added that Atlantis gave him the leverage of working, not only with locations and cultures, but also with myths, fantasy and everything else that might not seem real to the eyes. Going with this vision, he and his team made sure to use everything related to the deep ocean, from mermaids to sea horses and sea stars. The intriguing embroideries were carefully designed to create stories for each dress, from the combination of colors, to their inspiration point. “As part of the collection, we have a red dress to emphasize this point that the red color is treated as a symbol of royalty, giving the ocean and Atlantis, their queen,” he said. The celebrity endorsement for the Saiid Kobeisy brand isn’t that main concern at the moment, but could be considered as and when that famous person is a relevant and accurate reflection of what it stands for. “In that case, we can definitely think of collaborating,” he said. As the brand makes its foray into the international market fully aware that the pace of fashion design will only be too quick to ignore, Kobeisy is ready to accept this challenging reality and let his designs do the talking. “The customers want immediate access to new collections off the runway, ideally at price points they can afford. We have to adapt to the speed like we have had to adapt to other media. We want to be closer to our customers and cater to the most sophisticated woman in a timely manner without losing our edge. So in the next five years, we should hopefully have exclusive showrooms in the top 5 cities of the world,” he said. 80

just out Daniel Radcliffe
paths with a Austrian geologist who strolls up to them in a market with the promise of lost tribes and Incan gold.
Once the film finally gets going Radcliffe puts in a good performance with his wide-eyed panic never less than convincing.
The premise of the movie is a tale of four backpackers getting soundly spanked by Mother Nature.
So off goes Yossi with backpacker friends. Karl, Kevin and Marcus. It’s at this point that things begin to go pear shaped.
The film can be hard to watch in places with various horrors happening to Yossi ranging from grumpy snakes to a very stomach churning parasitic head worm.
Daniel Radcliffe leads the gap year adventure, beneath a beard and thick Israeli accent. As Yossi Ghinsberg (upon whose real-life account this film is based), Radcliffe assumes the smugness of so many student travellers, throwing common sense to the wind in the pursuit of self-discovery and “finding “ themselves. This makes him cross
It’s not long before the stress begins to show. Karl and Kevin begin locking horns while Marcus's bad feet make him the group’s weak link.
JUNGLE
The group splits up and Radcliffe finds himself alone and without provisions.
The problem is as it is based on a autobiography, you always know the main character will survive which leaves the outcome in no doubt, so it never really comes close to seizing you by the throat.
just out THOR RAGNAROK
Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Mark Ruffallo, Jeff Goldblum, Tom Hiddlestone With superhero movies, all seem to follow the same 3 film formula. Each hero starts with an origin story; then comes a sequel to jack up the stakes. It’s not until part three that a series is given free rein. The director of What We Do In The Shadows and Hunt For The Wilderpeople was never going to deliver a standard superhero movie. The movie actually comes across as a comedy rather than a special effects spectacle.
With regards to the storyline, Thor is forced into gladiatorial service when stranded on a strange planet alongside the Hulk. Hemsworth himself has never been better as he has adapted the character to comedy rather than an overblown Shakesphere character. Throughout the movie there are jokes at every turn. The director himself also gets in on the action as the hilarious rock man Gladiator Korg. If there’s a weak link in the line-up it’s Blanchett’s Hela. She is pretty wooden and all her scenes leave you wanting to skip them.
Ragnarok is a cocktail of colour on screen and the CGI work is really well done. Overall this is one of the funniest films of the year and a worthy addition to the stable of Marvel movies. Although you would have thought they would have got a bit boring by now, Marvel keep coming up with ways to keep the movies fresh and new.

just out STRONGER
Jake Gyllenhaal Hollywood has already brought one movie of the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombings to the screen - but while Patriots Day had a cop character for us to root for, Stronger chooses a different route. Based on the experience of Jeff Bauman who lost both his legs in the attack, the focus here is on the aftermath- the bombing happens within the first half hour. This is a movie which portrays that survivor in a negative light.
Played by Jake Gyllenhaal, Jeff is a regular guy, a man who typically likes a drink and a bar fight. As he publicly becomes a symbol of the ‘Boston Strong’, the movie follows Jeffs and his families journey and struggles with coping with the “Boston Strong” mantle. Bauman and his family are Boston born and bred, and every scene with Jeff’s family shows the best and worst ideas of a Boston working-class family. Although it does come across as a bit cliched at times.
Also impressive is Tatiana Maslany, as Jeff’s on-off girlfriend Erin. Her performance is just as strong as Gyllenhaal’s — but despite Stronger being sold as a romance, it is anything but. Things do get predictable in the final act as Jeff cleans up his act and begins to embrace the hero mantle with which he’s been labeled with. This is where the movie loses its way and what started off well turns into a soppy, cheesey and melodramatic final third.
Head of the family is Miranda Richardson as Jeff’s mother Patty, the typical alcoholic mother, who is more screwed up than Jeff. Richardson steals each scene she is in and she’s impossible to ignore.
just out JUSTICE LEAGUE
Instead it’s consistently embarrassing to watch, and features consistently massive plot holes.
Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams
The story is a basic one at that. After the death of Superman, earth faces a threat from a different dimension. Batman and Wonder Woman must put together this team of superheroes to save the day.
After looking forward to this movie for the best part of two years, I am gutted to say it is pretty bad! Warner Bros’ latest attempt to jump-start their DC Comics brand, which is at this point is starting to look less and less like a cinematic universe.
Batman is played by Ben Affleck, but the character here is all but unrecognizable from the version in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Then there’s Henry Cavill’s Superman, whose personality changes every scene.
After a four-film build-up with Man of Steel, Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman, Justice League should have felt like a culmination of everything before it.
Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) is perfectly recognisable from her solo film but obviously does not have enough screen time to carry the film on her own.
The new characters, Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg are bland and boring with nowhere near enough time to establish themselves . The special effects are terrible and it is pretty much the worst CGI I have seen in a very long time with superman’s “moustache removal" being a particular highlight. Overall Justice League is painful to watch. It had a lot of trouble post production with the director having to leave the project due to family problems but it is glaringly obvious as the movie doesn’t really have an identity anymore.

This pairs wonderfully with a variety of drinks to relax and enjoy some of the best sunset views of the island at Bangrak Beach. A large outdoor area with huge bean bags is the perfect spot to have that laidback evening.
There are a wonderful selection of mains consisting of handmade pastas and their signature spaghetti carbonara, with pancetta, crispy prosciutto, confit egg and pecorino cheese, charcoal grilled chicken with cos and corn salad, pan grattato, anchovies and parmesan dressing and many more meats and fish.
Offering an easy-eating menu and drinks makes Charm Eatery and Bar that exceptional choice for friends to get together or that after work chill out.
The selection of homemade Italian Desserts includes one of the best tiramisu I’ve ever tasted. Among the Signature Cocktails and wines available, I highly recommend the Sicilian Mojito consisting of Averna, dry ginger, mint leaves and lime.
Charm Eatery and bar also offers a great variety of classic cocktails and highly recommended is the Cosmopolitan, Sangsom Passion, Samui Paradise and Thai Chima. There’s also a wide selection of whiskeys, spirits, draught beers including imported beers such as Hoegaarden and a fantastic variation of wine. Situated at the entrance of The Big Buddha temple with only 5 minutes by car to Samui International Airport and 5 minutes’ walk to Bangrak Pier. The restaurant operates from 10 am to 11pm every day.

Han Kook Kwan
Han Kook Kwan is a cozy little Korean restaurant just off a small Soi in Sukhumvit Soi 19, just behind Robinsons. It’s one of my personal favorites and have been enjoying fantastic authentic Korean cuisine especially the BBQ for nearly two decades. Don’t worry if you’re not comfortable what to order, just choose a couple of meats depending how many people you are and within minutes your table will be full of delicious salads, side dishes and my favorite Kimchi. Don’t miss out on the tender lamb or the chili marinated pork and beef, all which will be BBQ’d for you at the table, just watch and enjoy. A great side dish to share is the Kimchi Pork soup, hot, spicy and with that characteristic Kimchi flavor. 19/26 Soi Sukhumvit 19, Sukhumvit Road, Khlong Toei Nuea Subdistrict, Watthana District, Bangkok +66 (0)2 253 5090

Gadgets Cutting-Edge Technology
One Coast Magazine has sourced some of the latest gizmos and gadgets that make life simpler (or just cooler) so you can focus on the important stuff. Cutting-Edge Technology you won’t find at the corner store. DJI Osmo : Motion without blur. Action shots without shake. Perfect video even when you move. Thanks to advanced technologies specifically designed to keep the camera still no matter how you move it, the DJI Osmo helps you record videos and take photos like never before. It is much more than just a camera and stabilizer. It helps you create with more freedom than ever. The Osmo brings DJI’s recognized leadership in camera stabilization down to the ground and into your hands. A 3-axis stabilization system completely integrated with the camera cancels out your movements in three directions so it stays still even if your hands shake or wobble. This is the first time this technology is available in a camera you can hold. Solar Suntree Charger : Nature Inspired Charging Give your tech gadgets a nature inspired charger in the form of this lovely Solar Suntree that branches out into multiple charging outlets. The product is from XD Design and bears 9 solar leaves that can easily power your mobile phone or MP3 player. The tree also comes with a USB output slot and a mini USB input slot. It is made out of bamboo with the solar charging panel acting as leaves. When you place it beside your indoor cactus or bonsai, this will look no less in terms of blending nature with technology. Just place it beside the window and wait for the sun to charge your gadgets in such a beautiful way. PODO Camera : Camera and Selfie Stick(Er)! Podo is a camera that comes with a repositionable adhesive pad… think of it as the product you get when a Post-it marries a camera! You can now just simply stick the camera onto any surface, and snap away using the Podo app on your smartphone! Podo ensures that your selfies will be absolutely hands free. So, you can take pictures from meters away instead of the regular arm-length. Podo’s sticky pad is a marvel of material engineering. It helps the camera stick to any surface, and can always be washed and reused. The Podo camera is light-weight and unbelievably powerful. The camera’s pixel size is comparatively higher than your iPhone camera pixel size, which means much clearer images even in low light. The camera also takes brilliant 720p video at 30fps, which you can stream directly on your phone. You can even use multiple Podo cameras with one phone, giving you complete control over what you want to capture, and how you want to capture it! Plus, the Podo also comes with a precisely machined wide-angle lens on the front, so no matter how close or far you keep the Podo, your subject is always in the frame! www.podolabs.com Ztylus Stinger USB Emergency Tool : Life-Saving USB Car Charger Emergency tools that include a window breaker and seat belt cutter have been around for many years. The problem with existing emergency tools is that after a while, you forget where it is. We found that many emergency tools become lost or are not within arm’s reach during an accident. The Stinger multifunctional design keeps the emergency tool within reasonable reach when needed. It serves an everyday function, so if there is a critical situation, it will always be easily accessible to you. The Stinger is an escape tool that is designed to avoid entrapment within a vehicle after experiencing a car accident. The spring-loaded punch works easily and quickly to give you the best chance for escaping your vehicle. The emergency escape tool comes with a razor-sharp blade to help you cut your seat belt if you find yourself unable to release it normally. The unique innovation doubles as a dual USB port charger, which plugs into your car charger for high speed charging. It features an intelligent circuit design to protect against short circuiting, over-heating, over-currents and over-charging. https://ztylus.com/products/stinger-usb-emergency-tool
