fashioninstyle Creativity and modernity are the values the Ermanno Scervino woman fights for in FW 17-18 collection. Constant, sophisticated contrasts with military-inspired pieces and textures deliver ultimate sensuality and beauty with full force. There is an unceasing dialogue between male and female dress codes. Uniform-like oversized coats and parkas feature fur accents or come in delicate shades. Pant suits are renewed to become an iconic piece. The Scervino woman wears new versions in Prince of Wales, reworked and lightened with linen threads, or impalpable macramĂŠ lace, even with tux-effect lapels, and large-ribbed velvet. Softly fastened around the waist, a military belt is used to emphasize the waistline. Mannish outerwear is paired with ultra-feminine dresses and skirts, on which Valenciennes embroidery, lace and plumetis are overlapped through innovative couture techniques to create extremely sensual, yet chaste transparencies.

uniforms Evening looks come with contrasting lengths: bustier dresses with organza ruffles over macramÊ lace are as short as mini-skirts on the front and extend into a finely decorated train at the back. Elegant and bon-ton, organza plumetis is combined with a leather biker boots to reveal its inner rock soul. Accessories don’t just complete the outfits; they take on a key role. Feminine looks are worn with flat cuissard boots or brogues, brightened by studs along the swallowtail, while boyish attitudes are softened by stiletto heels.

fashioninstyle In the opposites game of ATOS LOMBARDINI SS17 the femininity softly weaves through folds and shades to release itself into the Main collection showing all its richness. The body unveils itself and the shoulders -usually disclosing a natural and delicate sensuality – starring in essential looks becoming unique thanks to multi-colored pattern and surprising details. She is a romantic and ironic woman as a fall of hearts mixed with grosgrain ribbons and shining pearls: from those printed on viscose long dresses – with rouches highlighting the neckline – to those embroidered on wide sleeves of georgette tops and mini-dresses and on funny patches for denim and t-shirts. The colors are intense and vibrant, from Powder to Poppy with Cameo and Flamingo Pink. These sunny tones compose a joyous wave pattern mixed with optical graphic on jumpsuits and trousers. The same black and white motif enriches the borders of knitwear matching different knits to reveal sensual see-through effects. She is happy and gentle as that flowers shower printed on the iconic silk suit and ruling the colorful Liberty patterns - matched with geometric graphics on dresses and tops – and the embroideries on light denim and white poplin shirts. There is a brightness crescendo for a stronger color palette featuring Mint, Periwinkle and Applegreen going with the Ultramarine Blue lace details on the all-over plissé mini-dresses and blouses. She is absolute feminine like the precious evening dresses embroidered with sequined motives and ironic patches to underline the unconventional femininity that made the style of ATOS LOMBARDINI so unique. Reshaping The Sharing Economy With a Fair And Empowering Platform For

CONSCIOUS TRAVELLERS

22

O N E CO A S T

lifestylein coast “traveliko is a new model OTA that offers hotels and travelers a high-value, balanced alternative to the dominant global online booking engines”

The traveliko team: Martijn Dekker, Natalie Glebova, Yann Gouriou, and Bjorn Harvold.

Bangkok, Thailand: A disruptive new online travel portal named traveliko announced its imminent launch last month during a press conference at Radisson Blu Plaza Bangkok. The specially developed web portal was designed from scratch to promote fair, ethical, value-added travel while helping its users make the world a better place. traveliko has been tested and developed over three years to make sure it serves today’s savvy, socially conscious travelers. The model was conceived by a group of hospitality professionals who saw hotel profits squeezed due to the high commissions paid to the dominant global OTAs, which ultimately had a negative impact on the quality of services provided to guests. They wanted to give power back to the hotels so that they, in turn, could increase the overall satisfaction of their customers. “traveliko is a socially conscious hotel booking platform, an independent alternative to the giant online corporations that have transformed the industry landscape in recent years. It is designed to give more freedom to hotels and to offer travelers a much more empowering experience.” says Yann Gouriou, the company’s co-founder and Chief Operations Officer. In order to reshape the relationship between customers, agencies and hotels, the traveliko team works directly with hotel partners and makes sure the website always offers guests the best available rate. The agency takes a flat 10% commission from the hotel, which is up to 50% less than most OTAs currently dominating the market. It also donates 20% of the net commission earned on each booking to project-oriented charities selected by users in the countries they plan to visit. The system tracks these contributions to charity, awarding Karma Points to users every time they book and donate. Karma Points are also earned through referrals, reviews and other online engagement. O N E CO A S T

23

“When you book through traveliko, you can allocate a donation to the type of charity you feel most strongly about – Animals, People or the Planet. We partner with organizations such as Socialgiver in Thailand, as well as global charities including UNICEF and WWF to help fund projects we can commit to and report back on to our customers,” explains Martijn Dekker, co-founder and Chief Financial Officer. In many ways traveliko is a natural evolution for the hotel industry as it takes a similar approach to other major consumer sectors such as food, health and banking, which have diversified beyond mass production and standardized product and service distribution. As is the case with other disruptors in these parallel industries, traveliko moves away from a white label approach to travel to offer a range of new features and bespoke opportunities to its partners and customers. The engine is optimised for a wide range of hospitality services beyond room bookings to give travelers more choice and flexibility, as well as more independence. “Surprisingly few customers are aware that the hotels they see on the first page of a search when using one of the big OTAs, are not necessarily the hotels that would fit them best. They are simply hotels that are commercially more interesting and more profitable to the OTA. traveliko breaks that paradigm by providing a non-partial map display with all the hotels equally visible and categorised by filters that the user controls. It’s mobile friendly, easy to use and offers a truly tailored booking experience,” says Bjorn Harvold, Chief Technical Officer.

24

O N E CO A S T

Supporting this customer-centric approach, the business is based on a partnership model that aims to save hotels money on commission so they can focus on giving their customers a better experience. Traveliko has already signed agreements with many international hospitality companies, including Absolute Hotel Services, Centara Hotels and Resorts, Dusit International and Red Planet Hotels, as well several smaller chains and independent hotels such as Tree Roots Retreat in Rayong Thailand. Natalie Glebova, traveliko’s brand ambassador and a former Miss Universe says, “If all the existing online travel agents gave back 20% of their commissions to worthy causes, the travel industry could make an enormous difference in terms of helping the world’s underprivileged people, protecting endangered animals and preserving the natural environment. With traveliko you can Travel with your Heart.”

A warrior’s face for today’s women…

T

homas Wylde, the Los Angeles-based luxury fashion house’s AW 17 Collection “Warrior II” is more than what a woman can ask for. This past January, Thomas Wylde introduced the “Warrior” narrative during the Pre-Fall presentation – a study of women’s many contradictory facades such as strength versus sensuality and combat versus nurture. The story and the woman have endured. Triumphant, she wears her battle wounds cloaked within cascading tiers of silk and the brutal weaponry abridged to delicate chains. The chains remind those who she encounters of her clandestine ferocity. This is “Warrior II,” the second chapter of its heroine tale of battle, triumph, and what victory truly means.

28

O N E CO A S T

fashionfront

What awaits women who return home victorious from battle? For many, it’s a day-to-day contradiction – seamlessly transforming without ever confronting the truth behind the facades she has had to bear. To her dear ones, she presents a nurturing, loving and devoted veneer. To her troops she comes across as a ruthless, all-powerful leader. To others she must appear unfazed, wise, and balanced. And for her lovers, she is sensual, generous, and alluring. “Warrior II” considers all facades and delivers a singular vision from Thomas Wylde: a daily armor that protects our heroine from revealing all that she keeps hidden beneath the fragile surface. It’s known for coming with a new hand-drawn print each season. And for “Warrior II,” the luxury house delves into the world of tattoo art. Tattoos are a personal reinterpretation of major life events and commemorations. For AW 17, the tattoos reference remembrances of war, femininity, and wilderness coalesced in a haze of forlorn memories. The elements are printed onto delicate silk chiffon in colors such as mauve or albino and draped into undulating bias cut ruffles and feature voluminous silhouettes that billow with every movement.

O N E CO A S T

29

Not only that, it has always celebrated its own tribe of passionate, poetic, and powerful women. This AW 17 collection “Warrior II” is the brand’s epic love-song for the women who inspire it. “We recognize the sacrifices women must endure and the battles they must face while maintaining the expectations of poise and gracefulness. The collections we create are always dedicated to the strong survivors and leaders whose very existence compels us to push harder and surpass our aspirations. We make clothes for the bold but demure, the beautiful but fragile, the wise but sensual women,” said Jene Park, creative director of Thomas Wylde.

Bags that capture three dimensions of

who we are The collection depicts “the me” element where one is for the World the way it needs to be and one is only for “the I” the way it truly feels Native. Trying to bring this expression into the bags’ designs, the UAE’s luxury handbag brand Native’s new collection “Duality” portrays a façade for the world and an inner world that mostly we keep to ourselves. The theme of the collection was manifested through 3 different titles inspired by the variations of the human psyche: Extrovert, Introvert and Multiple personality. Every term is defined by laws of society where our mind has only become more restless in dealing with the ever changing ways of society, trying to keep up with the rights and wrongs and should and shouldn’t. What’s called “Human” today seems more like a machine derived out of its best functioning abilities proven by the term “society”. We’ve lost touch with the balancing act and most importantly the essence of loving – the real part that comes with “Just Being”. The essence of this collection is to honor every mindset and allow it to just be without the need to have any approvals or validations. Being judged and labeled for who you really want to be is part of our world, therefore be yourself as that’s your true Native.

36

As the creative director of the brand Rachna Malkani puts it: “These designs are my way of saying that whoever labels me, I don’t care as I still look beautiful and imperfectly perfect in every shape and it’s still within me to decide who I choose to be at what given point of time. In the realms of my acts, natural self, good or bad, rights or wrongs as per the conditioning of centuries behind us, I still choose to embrace and love every side of me in completion. So no one truly defines me but myself. It’s so because I’m Native”. Time dresses to enjoy sporty couture

For Pre-collection 2017, the Ermanno Scervino woman lives in a sport couture universe that welds sartorial tailoring and sportswear. Jackets, overcoats, skirts and trousers in a Gobelin fabric are unexpectedly paired with off-white silks with Valencienne lace inserts and poplin striped shirts, in a play of juxtaposition which breaks every traditional rule.

38

O N E CO A S T

fashionflash The POP theme is bodied out in stripes and geometrical cat’s eyes winking out of knitwear and tailored garments. Or in more casual versions on bombers and jackets made of scuba knit fabric, worn with exquisite irony over lace dresses of impalpable texture, proposing contrasts that are only apparently irreconcilable. Summer furs, hand crafted with silk embroidery which masterfully reproduces the Astrakhan effect in shades of red, blue, green and black, embellished with contrasting or ton sur ton frogs.White takes on a leading role as seen in the linen, hemp and poplin shirts and dresses which are enriched with Valencienne embroidery and jeweled appliquÊs. Cascades of ruffles on lace dresses, a fabric very dear to the Maison, in new volumes, creating an alluring combination of romance and sensuality. Khaki color canvas jackets bonded with lace with tailoring of a military inspiration and frogs are another distinctive feature of the collection. Accessories: Bijoux and jeweled slippers illuminate, while Gobelins and Denim with visible topstitching on bags and shoes provide the perfect complement to a proposal in which opposition is the strong point and freedom to mix and match is the modus vivendi.

TheEntrepreneur Mindful When your body and mind are in an aggressive state, you may not be able to readjust quickly, because such aggression can blur your mental clarity. Instead of winning easily, you feel yourself failing, outsmarted and outplayed. It often turns back on you.The downside of the emotional chemicals of aggression are anxiety and fear.

T

wo days after Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the Daytona 500 for a second time, he remarked how his critics said he didn’t have the necessary “killer instinct” to win. He hoped this accomplishment would still them. It was a telling moment from a racing great, and as an entrepreneur it hit home, detailing how we strive to deliver wins daily, but are often judged harshly because we aren’t perceived as behaving with enough bravado. What is this “killer instinct?” Is it essential to winning as an entrepreneur? Many people think so! The necessity of an aggressive will to win in a battle is important for great generals in times of conflict. But for entrepreneurs to enter every entrepreneurial challenge with that kind of barely concealed aggression can backfire. Unquestionably aggression, exhibited by your body stance, your selection of words and their deliverance, can be a kind of emotional force that makes you more mentally dominant when challenged. But it can also torpedo you when used to deal with a complex situation or person, especially when their skill surpasses your own.

42

O N E CO A S T

An increasing number of entrepreneurs are coming to the realization that it is more conducive to success to manage their emotions, including aggression, if they want to chalk up more wins in the long run. Aggression may help you win short term victories, but in the long term it depletes your inner resources to continue the fight. And trust me, if you are an entrepreneur, then you know getting up every day, hustling, being motivated, and focused on your dreams can feel exactly like that, a fight. How do you then turn aggression and anger, which are often a default setting for many people when dealing with obstacles into a more agile force that can work in your favour? Your first goal is to change your relationship with those emotions. You must develop a subtle awareness for what it feels like to be hooked by strong emotions. This starts by learning how to recognize the feeling when it first arises. What you want to do is catch it quicker before it consumes you. With enough practice, you can feel what will become anger before you even label it as such. You then want to interrupt the momentum of these feelings, by slowing down your own reactions to them. How? One way is by becoming more mindful! Mindfulness is paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally, to the unfolding of experiences moment to moment. Just take a second to think how powerful being mindful can be

body&mindmindful lifestyle

for an entrepreneur. As entrepreneurs, we must face many ups and downs. Much of these ups and downs are to do with fear: fear of failure that your idea won’t work, fear that you don’t have the right abilities, fear that you won’t find the right clients, etc. It is fear that holds so many entrepreneurs back. When you are unable to get a handle on fear, it is not uncommon then to use anger to try and resolve it. But when you are mindful you can go into those places that you fear, because you do so fully embracing the unfolding of an experience, moment to moment, non-judgmentally. More importantly you are not run by your emotions. As noted earlier, and this is the crux of being mindful, it allows you to be present, focused, and more astute to the experience unfolding in front of you — which means your response will be precise, and not clouded by the red mist of unhelpful emotions. As simple as my next advice may sound, this very tool made a massive impact on my ability to go to the places that I feared as an entrepreneur, and helped me succeed. Being mindful in a highly stressful situation is easier said than done, but what I have taught myself to do is learn to breathe.Your breath is one of the most effective links between your mind and your brain, and, therefore, between your mind and your body. Mindfulness of your breath, then, is a great way to centre your mind-body and become grounded.

The out breath (exhaling) especially tethers you to the present moment. Try this right now: breath out hard, make sure you can hear your breath and try and think of something at the same time? Amazing, right? For that short time that you are exhaling your mind clears. I always see it as a way to flush my thoughts out. If I am focusing on exhaling I find that I can still my mind, and manage my emotions better. In other words, I catch the feeling quicker, before it controls me. The reality is that Earnhardt would never be the racing winner he is if he drove angry all the time. He would miss cues, distract his keen sense of observation, dim his focus, and allow his speed to overtake his skill. At the first unanticipated action from another driver, he’d be in trouble. My bet is, he was mindful on the day of his 2nd Daytona 500 drive to victory. In the same vein being an agile mindfully aware entrepreneur will bring you more wins in today’s chaotic, unpredictable business world than trying to aggressively bully your way to victory.

Let’s Fly In a fitness rut? Tired of the old exercises, try Yoga Fly an exceptional fun fitness style of yoga using a suspended silk hammock to improve core strength, flexibility, and posture.

body&mindwellness

I

’ve tried many styles and kinds of fitness routines throughout the years and although I’d tried Yoga and Hot Yoga it was never the sort of routine I would want to do on a regular basis. Gym was always invigorating and I found cross fit interesting and running excellent for general cardio. That was until I was introduced to Lynnie Heron. Lynnie runs Yoga Fly classes at Tree Roots Retreat in Rayong and she explained to me that yoga fly is a combination of acrobatic arts, pilates and commercial yoga. For me, yoga fly was like normal yoga only much superior. Much more effective, fulfilling and calming. Plus, there are the muscle tone side benefits? I’ve realised that yoga fly is much more fun than traditional yoga or the standard gym exercises truly providing a fun experience. If you are tired or bored of the Gym give this a try. You hang or sit on a soft, silk like fabric hammock. These specially made hammocks are made from high-density nylon material that can support over 900kg, so don’t stress there not going to rip. The hammocks are held up by rock climbing carabineers, and webbing straps. The height can be fine-tuned to each person and throughout the yoga fly class you will do various traditional yoga poses or flying variations using the hammock to counteract gravity and create a fun experience. Therefore, this flying style of exercise combination relieves compression from the neck and spine. Similarly allowing you to stretch and strengthen without over stressing your joints or vertebrae. Ultimately, yoga fly is a form of therapeutic yoga style exercise, ideal for alleviating back pain and daily stress tensions.

LET’S FLY IT’S FUN & FITNESS! It does sound a little daunting and dangerous, but as you can turn upside down in the hammock you have much less pressure on your head or spine as you would in classic inversions, which can lead to injury over time. Plus, you are only suspended a couple of feet off the ground and risk of falling is small. Why choose Yoga Fly? • Increase Muscle Strength • Improve Balance • Spinal Decompression • Increase Flexibility • Improve Body Awareness • Supported Inversion Poses • Combining Yoga, Pilates & Dance • Total Body Workout • Relieve Stress Yoga Fly or also known as Aerial Yoga is now gaining popularity all over the world and you are very likely to find a class near you. If you’re looking for advice on Yoga Fly in Bangkok or Rayong please contact Lynnie at Tree Roots retreat, Hat Mae Rumphueng Beach, Rayong.

Putrakul

This issue welcomes Woranit Putrakul to our About Her interview, Woranit or better known as Umi to her friends is Director of Ace International Marines in Phuket. After hearing rumours on the maritime airways of a new Environmentally Friendly Aluminium hull boat design being chartered around Phuket and having a beautiful young director at the helm One Coast were already sailing to find out more.

46

O N E CO A S T

focusabout her Umi welcome to One Coast Magazine it is a pleasure to meet you at last, could you give our readers a short brief about yourself, where you were born and why you came to work in Phuket? Hi, friends call me “Umi”, I am originally from Narathiwat, in the deep south of Thailand. I graduated in a field of hospitality management from the Prince of Songkla University (Phuket Campus). I had realized that I had fallen in love with the hospitality and tourism industry even though this is challenging for communication and business, especially in the maritime industry. Are you with your family in Phuket? I recently moved to Phuket with my family just as we started this business. Tell us a little bit about your job as Director of Ace International Marines and what you company specialises in? Mostly it’s boat charter and sales, with our custom-built motor yacht/power catamaran with aluminium base, we favour charter rather than just displaying the boat in a marina, as we prefer to present an actual and visible vessels performance. Which vessels do you have now in Phuket? We started last year to display the M/Y SPLO120042ft an aluminium motor yacht with “Kamewa waterjet” this is a very smooth boat which can navigate on shallow seas allowing us to use shorter routes which is great for guests who expect to visit many islands quickly. We started with the smaller M/Y and after so much good feedback we brought the larger 74ft aluminium motor yacht name “Chowa” which is luxurious, very classy and a multi-functional facility for max 50 guests. Till now most boats emphasized on the party function, but we are different, we serve the more high-end market for meetings, seminars, and business trips on board, we will even organize some events such as weddings. There is something special about the Aluminium hull design could you explain that? Each kind of boat has different advantages. To me, I prefer the aluminium hull, which is environmentally friendly, light, fast, stable and has a long life-cycle. Custom-builds are my choice as I prefer my own model and design, it’s an awesome feeling once you have that one special unique model in the world.

Where do you see your company heading in the future? We aim to be one of the leading boat charter companies in South East Asia for new innovative motor yachts that offer customized hospitality services as we build customized motor yacht to satisfy all the customer’s needs. You seem already to be very busy but if you have some free time what do you like to do? I like to do meditation at a private beach, ozone refreshes you well for meditation, and I love golfing, especially screen golf because I can select and feel like I’m really playing in many country clubs around the world. Do you have a favourite place in Phuket? Koh Lone, Lone Island. I and my skipper sail there with the Albatros a 4.3m dinghy. I love to sit on the pier as this island is not busy yet, just me sitting alone, having a good coffee, listening Bossanova and taking in the beautiful panoramic views of Phuket mainland, I can see the Big Buddha, fine mountains along with clear sea water, make sure no rain though (laugh), it is incredible! Tonight, is your time and you are going out to your favourite restaurant, where do you go and what do you choose? I love the bull restaurant in Panwa, they make an amazing lamb steak and Kung Sarong which I must order. Simple but service orientated which is important to me in selecting this place for my first choice. Lastly, I would like to welcome everyone to try a cruise on our motor yacht SPLO1200 and Chowa, it’s hard to say how good it is it till you experience it yourself, it is not just the boat quality but our service that will definitely touch you! ACE INTERNATIONAL MARINES Co.,Ltd. 85/38, Phanason Private Home Soi 3, Moo.4,Vichitsongkram Rd., Kathu, Phuket, 83120 Thailand. M: +66 (0)87 382 0354 E: putrakul.w@gmail.com

Why is this classed as being environmentally friendly? Aluminium hulls can be recycled and especially hold their value in reselling the boat. They have a long-life cycle and a quality aluminium hull will have a low carbon footprint, particularly good in the reduction of toxins and pollution during the boat construction. Whenyourvessels are chartered where doyou take clients? Mostly, we get inquiries to Phi Phi Islands, Hong Krabi, and James Bond Islands. Many speedboats operators are surprised that we can reach such shallow beach areas and even island piers at low tide which in turn makes our customers happy as we don’t need to use dinghies to ferry back and forth, sometimes we will even remove the dinghy completely giving more space for swimming or towing water toys.

Frederic Garnier

This edition of One Coast’s ABOUT HIM welcomes Frederic Garnier, Vice President of Development of the Bespoke Hospitality Management Asia Group. BHMAsia is an independent, Asia Pacific Hotel and Hotel Management company based in Bangkok, Thailand. Of course, we had to find out more

48

O N E CO A S T

focusabout him Welcome Frederic thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to see us, could we start with a brief profile of when you came to Thailand and your experience in the hospitality business? That’s sound like a job interview! I arrived in Bangkok mid 2004 (13 years ago), my first year here I was only an exchange student, but really enjoyed the dynamic and the mixed culture that Bangkok can offer; thereafter I decided to look at coming back after my study, and I was lucky to get offered a great opportunity with the ACCOR group at the Sofitel Silom (now Pullman G), I started in the accounting & cost control department, which is very unusual, but which allowed me to be very close to the top management team at a very young age, and understand quickly the numbers. I then moved up to more managerial position as a F&B Manager still in Bangkok, for another ACCOR property on Sukhumvit. Then one of the most inspiring experiences was when I joined The Erawan Group, and was part of the GMs team that started the Ibis brand in Thailand, its amazing how much you can learn working with a budget hotel. I had a short break after those 6-7 years at ACCOR, and opened a couple of restaurants with a group of friends in Phuket, but after 2 years, it was obvious for me that I still had things to learn in the hotel world, so when I saw X2 (Cross to), I really liked it, and thought it could be a good adventure to take this brand to the next level, and grow the group from a small boutique operator to a regional key player.

In fact, after my hospitality studies, I wanted to learn more about the business side of it, and more particularly the financial aspects, so I joined an International Business school, where I quickly realised that Asia was the future, and my school had an exchange program with Thailand, so I decided to do 1 year of study here in Bangkok; and that where everything began. Where have you worked in Thailand to date? Joining with BHMAsia, I have visited more than 100 places in Thailand and South East Asia. Five years ago, I was living in Phuket and then I moved to Bangkok. Yes, I could say that Bangkok is my ‘home’. What does the Bespoke Hospitality Management Asia Group do? Bespoke Hospitality Management Asia (BHMAsia) is a regional hotel management, development and consulting group. In addition, BHMAsia provide hotel consulting and management for boutique, mid-size and large-scale hotels and resorts from 50 to 300 rooms. The group offers consulting, feasibility, brokerage and development services for hotel owners and investors. The company is owned and operated by a mix of international and local executives with experience in all areas of the industry. Operating as a private and independent company, BHMAsia can adopt a very flexible and pragmatic approach to all challenges and tasks, and therefore able to tailor-make solutions to meet each client’s needs.

Where are you originally from and why did you choose Thailand? I am from Cannes, in France, the sunny city world famous for its movie festival, on the coast of the French Riviera.

Which countries does it serve? Today we operate the majority of our portfolio in Thailand, but we also have operations going on in Vietnam, & some project under design & construction in Indonesia. Vietnam and Indonesia are also strong growing businesses for BHMAsia. But Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka are on our radar.

I didn’t choose Thailand, I chose Asia; and I was just lucky to end up in Thailand I can say today.

I believe that these new countries have a great opportunity and we can expend our portfolio in next year.

X2 River Kwai Resort

X2 Kui Buri Resort

So, what do you offer that is so much more successful than your competitors? There is really no secret weapon on what we do different; all hotel management companies have their own formula, which is not very different from each other. Where we are different comes basically down to two things; one is the strong Brand recognition of X2 (Cross Two) Brand with the local market. More than 80% of the customers are Thai and they travel more often by visiting different locations in low and high seasons. Our location of resorts and hotels are in downtown, close to many attractions or a peaceful beachfront in Thailand. In additionally, the strong revenue management team which enables to yield the rates for all resorts to a maximum resulting in very good GOP’s across all our hotels we manage.

Talking to your colleagues I know that when you started with BHMAsia they were a Thai based Boutique operator with 6 Resorts, now business under your guidance has drastically improved, how many properties do you now manage and where? Yes, when I joined we had only 6 resorts and about 10 employees at the head office. Today we operate up to 50 properties in 4 countries run by 40 employees. This took us several years to get where we are today, and many sleepless nights, but with the support of our founder & partners; we can say we are not small group anymore. In my opinion, BHMAsia is a good regional player and eager to take on new horizons in every possible moment. That is an impressive portfolio, where would you say your success lies? Surely, there are many! We came so far from where we started from and people can see how stable we are now. I think the success of the growth is divided into two major pillars: A team of passionate & hard working associates We thank you for our strong team and their professional service that serve to our client and our brand. A strong brand identity A portfolio of Brands, that appeals to today’s & tomorrow’s market; A young generation like our stylish approach and we would like to keep it as our signature.

From all the properties which has been the hardest work but now is bearing the fruits of your labour? I can’t recall a specific project honestly; in development, every project goes through some hard time, either it is related to design, construction, recruitment, owner’s relations, or operation. I learned much at the beginning, the owner’s relationship was probably the most challenging part and now I can say I am enjoying it and I built some good friendships with some of them. Which is the biggest property and for which one do you feel most proud of? Our largest property today is 266 rooms the X2 Vibe Bangkok Sukhumvit Hotel which is a brand we launched last year. And which one I feel the proudest of, it’s a tricky question, which I can’t answer as I really like most of the projects we have, as they are all unique. Obviously with your properties there is much to do with international investments, how do you feel the Thai economy and tourism is effecting this? Most of our Thai hotels are developed by local developers; they know our brands and appreciate the brand recognition we have in the country. This shows that Thai economy is somewhat stable and more resilient to the events than in the past.Thailand has proven time and time again that whatever event occurs, the recovery process is always very short and the markets are quickly back to normal. In the past, we’ve had Iraq wars, SARS, Coup D’état’s, other political turmoils and of course the passing of the late King, that has affected the tourism markets and the economy as such.

As we are reaching out into other markets such as Vietnam and Indonesia, the dealing with international investors will be more relevant and we are looking forward to work with a wider range of developers and possibly to bring them to invest into Thailand as well.

X2 Khao Lak Anda Mani Resort

X2 Chiang Mai Riverside Resort

When you enter one of your properties what do you look for first? Always looking for new opportunity to differentiate ourselves, to create a unique experience, and improve our operations, and it’s a never-ending game; and I enjoy the game. What are the future plans for BHMAsia? Our future much depends on the progress we are making now, which is very positive, being one of the fastest growing management companies in Thailand. We anticipate expanding and adjusting our business plan for this and the following years. In short term, we concentrate to develop our three brands further in Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. We have just opened an office in Ho Chi Minh City to serve our existing deals and hotel in development and set a base for the Operational and Development support for our company. In the long term, our vision is to be among the larger Asian Hotel Management companies, build up a portfolio of Luxury Boutique Hotels and place our X2 Vibe Brand in every major city and beach destination.

X2 Koh Samui Resort

You have a weekend away with your family, where would you choose to go? A week end? what is that? Obviously, you haven’t worked in the hospitality industry! No… more seriously, I like to go to Chiang Mai with my wife, & ride my motorbike without any plan or map… just get lost, and find new tracks... It been the best way to discover amazing landscapes & people; it even took me to Laos a few times.

For 2017 the new Harley-Davidson® Street Rod™ is set to raise eyebrows, and reset expectations. Grown from the Street platform it’s built to thrive in the city – and provide an exhilarating experience beyond. Its tuned High Output Revolution™ X 750 engine, producing more torque through the mid-range and power at the top-end also chases a higher redline. The bigger hitting motor is matched with sharper chassis geometry and aggressive riding position; there are also upgrades to the suspension, brakes and wheels. And the Street Rod’s lines are very much its own. Its tough look is drenched in Harley-Davidson Dark Custom™ styling (plus hints of flat-track steel) and oozes purpose, with a hunched forward, ready-for-action stance.

Mathew Weber, Harley-Davidson chief engineer: “The Street Rod’s new High Output Revolution X 750 has got hot cams, gas-flowed heads, more compression and a higher redline. It gets your attention. And we wanted a chassis to match, sharp handling and aggressive, perfect for urban cut-and-thrust and canyon carving. Its attitude and the relationship between seat position, rearset footpegs and wide handlebars put the rider fully in control. The fact the Street Rod looks so good – and very close to our early sketches – gives us all a real charge too!” More midrange torque, top end power and an extra 1,000rpm… The Street Rod’s liquid-cooled, single OHC 8V 60° V-Twin High Output Revolution X 750 engine produces 20% more horsepower and 10% more torque than the Street 750; peak power arrives @ 8,750rpm, with peak torque delivered @ 4,000rpm. It’s tuned to deliver strongly between 4,000 and 5,000 rpm, with strong midrange performance that a rider can feel and exploit in real-world situations. It features a larger volume air box and new dual 42mm throttle bodies, new four-valve cylinder heads and high-lift camshafts, plus a higher-volume exhaust muffler – all designed to increase airflow and efficiency. Compression ratio is raised from 11.0:1 to 12.0:1 and the redline goes from 8,000 to 9,000 rpm. Sharper geometry plus new suspension and brakes deliver agile handling The Street Rod chassis is engineered to match the performance of the engine. The front-end features rigid 43mm USD forks gripped by lightweight aluminium yokes. Fork rake is tightened from 32° to 27° for quicker steering. New rear shock absorbers feature an external reservoir to increase fluid capacity and maintain damping consistency; travel is increased 31% to 117mm.The swing arm is slightly longer to accommodate the taller shocks, with performance-inspired styling. The flat, drag-style handlebar creates an aggressive riding position; new bar-end rear-view mirrors can be mounted above or below the grips, and feature a patent-pending design that allows them to fold back without interfering with the rider’s hands. The Street Rod wears exclusive 17-inch front and rear Open Spoke Black Cast aluminium wheels and new Michelin Scorcher 21 radial tyres, sized 120/70 R17V front and 160/60 R17V rear; dual two-piston calipers and 300mm front disc brakes plus ABS deliver powerful, controlled stopping power. Harley-Davidson’s Smart Security System is standard fitment.

58

Dark Custom to the core with something extra all its own The Street Rod backs up its upgraded engine and handling performance with a liberal dose of Harley-Davidson Dark Custom styling. Thick, blacked-out forks and triple camps, topped with a new speed screen add mass to the front end. A new tail section, with perforated rear mudguard, lightens the rear; the taillight is crisp LED, as are the indicators. The raised ride height and 17-inch wheels inject the Street Rod with an athletic stance, while the new scoop-style air cleaner cover and sharper snap of the exhaust note draw attention to the engine’s strong design.

Whirlwind Experience

Huracan Performante Lamborghini proudly unveiled the Huracán Perfomante at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, merging new lightweight technologies, active aerodynamics with aero vectoring and a new set-up of chassis, all-wheel-drive system and further improved V10 5.2L 640Hp powertrain. The Huracán Performante is the result of Lamborghini innovations, producing a super sports car balanced between achieving the best lap times on a circuit with the most engaging and dynamic road driving. On 5 October 2016, the Lamborghini Huracán Performante set a new production car lap record of 6:52.01 min on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany.

60

O N E CO A S T

lifestylecoast drive Lightweight Engineering Based on a hybrid aluminium and carbon fibre frame, the Huracán Performante’s body is produced from aluminium in conjunction with significant use throughout of Lamborghini’s award-winning Forged Composite. Using chopped carbon fibres in a resin, Forged Composite allows the creation of lightweight, complex geometrical shapes beyond that possible with traditional carbon fibre composite materials, while maintaining optimum stiffness. Active Aerodynamics - Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA) The Lamborghini Huracán Performante adopts Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA):ALA is also the Italian word for wing. This patented active aerodynamic system developed by Lamborghini for the Huracán Performante provides an active variation of aero load for high down force or low drag. When ALA is off, the active flaps inside the front spoiler are closed, generating the desired high downforce for high speed cornering and full brake conditions. When ALA switches to on the front flaps are opened by the front electric motor, reducing air pressure on the front spoiler and directing air flow via an inner channel and through the specially shaped underside of the car. This drastically reduces drag and optimizes conditions for maximum acceleration and top speed. In the rear of the Performante four ducts are installed below the rear bonnet. The two central ducts are always open to allow under hood ventilation and exhaust cooling, while the two external ducts are connected to the inner channels of the rear wing. The

air flow through the rear wing channels is controlled by two electro-actuated flaps. The entire system is 80% lighter than a traditional hydraulic system. When ALA is off the rear flaps are closed, permitting the rear wing to act as a traditional fixed wing. Stability is enhanced in high speed cornering and full braking by creating maximum vertical downforce; 750% more than a Huracán coupé. The LPI turns on the ALA in high throttle conditions, opening the rear flaps to allow air through the rear wing’s inner channels and directing air flow through ridges underneath the wing. This reduces drag and maximizes the car’s acceleration and top speed capabilities. Powertrain and performance The enhanced naturally aspirated Huracán engine is the most powerful V10 produced to date by Lamborghini. 5.2 l aspirated engine with higher torque and power output of 640 hp, it is distinguished by a new bronze manifold that draws on the heritage of previous special edition engines such as the Diablo 30th Anniversary power plant. The Performante’s new powertrain draws on sophisticated technologies including developments from Lamborghini’s motorsports program. Engine fluid dynamics for both intake and exhaust have been optimized, as has the V10’s air intake system with reduced loss improving responsiveness. New titanium valves allow higher valve lifts to increase engine permeability and performance.

O N E CO A S T

61

The car’s powerful engine produces an optimized torque curve, with more than 70% of torque already available at 1,000 rpm. Reflecting this, Lamborghini’s seven-speed dual clutch transmission has been also optimized to match the increased performance. The Performante’s dry weight is just 1,382 kg, giving a weight to power ratio of 2.16 kg. Weight distribution front and rear is 43/57 %. Accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, the Huracán Performante is propelled from 0 to 200 km/h in 8.9 seconds, and brakes from 100-0 km/h in 31 m. The permanent four-wheel drive system is tuned to maximize traction in all situations, working in conjunction with the ALA system and exploiting the new P Zero Corsa tires. ESC has been calibrated to smooth intervention and be less intrusive.

62

O N E CO A S T

Lamborghini’s ANIMA system, controlling driver modes that customize the set-up of all the car’s systems, has also been revised to enhance the driving experience in each of the modes: Strada, Sport and Corsa. In Strada, traction and stability are prioritized. Sport offers a more rear-wheel drive orientation, with oversteer behaviour and easier drifting. The Corsa driving mode is focused on top performance and handling to maximise results on track. Wheels and Brakes The Huracán Performante uses Lamborghini’s permanent four-wheel drive Haldex fifth generation system, fully electronically controlled, with rear mechanical self-locking differential. The Lamborghini Huracán Performante sits on specifically designed bronze 20” Narvi forged rims. The 20” Loge forged rims with central lock are also available. The Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, developed specifically for the Huracán Performante, are designed to optimize road holding in both on and off ALA settings, in track conditions and to provide optimum performance in normal road conditions. A high-performance track tire, the Pirelli Trofeo R, with street homologation is also available for the Huracán Performante. The Lamborghini Huracán Performante’s extraordinary acceleration and top speed are matched by the performance of its highly responsive braking system, providing smooth, continuous braking from its ventilated and cross-drilled carbon ceramic discs. A hydraulic dual-circuit system with vacuum brake servo unit has six-piston brake callipers at the front and four-piston callipers at the rear. The ABS also offers up drastically improved performance and pedal feedback to the driver via the P Zero Corsa tires. Interior The interior of the Huracán Performante reminds the driver of its lightweight and aerodynamic purpose. Air vents, paddles, door handles and the centre console are created from Forged Composite. Referencing its racing heritage, lightweight, dark coloured Alcantara fabric is used throughout, including on the sports seats where an optional ‘Y’ graphic can be lasered. Comfort seats with the same trim are available as an alternative. Inside, the driver is fully in touch with the active aerodynamics’ activities: not only through the car’s performance, but from the special ALA graphic in the dashboard display which shows when and how ALA is working, including aero vectoring. Inside the Huracán Performante, the new digital cockpit displays are configurable depending on driving mode selected: Strada, Sport or Corsa, with a display dedicated to the ALA detailing data on downforce and drag. The new cockpit layout supports Apple CarPlay and its iPhone apps including the Lamborghini telemetry system, which allows the driver to record, replay and study his own performance. And for those where the Huracán Performante is still not enough there is the Lamborghini Ad Personam Program which enables owners to personalize the Huracán Performante according to individual taste. www.lamborghini.com

Taking part in one of the most gruelling ultra-marathons in the world,The Coastal Challenge in Costa Rica was in itself a life changing experience. If you really want to wake your inner demons and find out what your made of this is something you should try. Being such a relatively small and exclusive race with only 100 or so participants you really get to meet everyone taking part. I had the great opportunity to meet and run with a very talented, very modest artist named Ramon Maiden. Ramon Maiden is currently based out of Barcelona, Spain and his speciality is to reappropriate vintage illustrations often postcards, calendars, and various religious prints to transform them into fully tattooed characters and subjects with sometimes a mere ball-point pen. Maiden uses everything fromVargas pin-ups to religious prints depicting Saints and other holy characters to create his detailed pieces dawning full body tattoos. The first thing that struck me about Ramon’s work is his unique inspiration and style. Often called artworks from Hell he has a dynamism that is infectious. Creating masterpieces rooted in history, religion and politics - Ramon Maiden takes it upon himself to impose the most detailed, delicate tattoo-inspired patterns onto existing artworks, and the result is mesmerizing. From poised Victorian ladies to 50s pinups to priests and the big JC himself - nobody is safe from Maiden’s beautiful ballpoint patterns. O N E CO A S T

Ramon Maiden, artworks from Hell “I was born in 1972 in Barcelona, but I’ve never felt bound anywhere and I have travelled extensively. I lived in other countries and I considered NYC as my second city. I have never studied art and my training as an artist has been entirely self-taught. My training, ideas, sources of inspiration… are all dynamic and changing, and so are the techniques and methods I employ. I try not to focus on anything too specific and progress by using different sources and experimenting. My training as a social worker, my passion for traveling, my family history and my experience with visual arts…are all very diverse and not at all uniform, which allows me to be very creative. I recently started painting on wood, is a bit complicated because you must be very careful and delicate, but the result is very rewarding. My work reflects my way of life, my career, training, experiences, travels, interests. It is difficult to define and is constantly moving, growing and modified on the fly. I am very interested in history, the ancient religions, politics and my art is imbued with that. My style is very characteristic and people are usually identified quickly. I try to not only make a visual impact but also convey a message, idea and purpose. I perceive the tattoo as a form of artistic expression. Many of the artists I follow not only deal with tattoos, but they are also very good at other types of art. Lola Garcia, Seth Wood, Dr. Lakra, , Annie Frenzel, Sebastian Domasche, Matthias Boechtter, Ryan Mason or Amina Charai are excellent tattooists, great artists and personal friends. It is difficult to identify what my actual style is, it’s usually quite changeable and I like to have different sources of inspiration. I love the historical motives and many of my works are steeped in it.The world wars, the Victorian era, the American 20’s, I attempt to combine many of these in my illustrations. I like to shake consciences, make people think and you will see religion and politics are also present in my work.” Ramon Maiden is a true inspiration to artistic freedom, following no borders he lives his life and his artistic exploration of multiple mediums to the full extent, this self-taught virtuoso wields history with modern tattoo aestheticism, composing his work with the adage that art is freedom, and not a competition. Verano Residence

Set on the hills of Chaweng Noi, and offering some of the best sea views Koh Samui has to offer, with sweeping views of Chaweng bay and Koh Phangan,Verano Residence is one of the most exciting developments on the island at the moment. Less than 1km from the entrance of the residence is the stunning Chaweng Noi beach and all main amenities such as restaurants, international schools, international hospitals, Central Festival shopping mall, are less than 10 minutes away, making Verano Residence perfectly located for investors.

O N E CO A S T

79

While most developments on Koh Samui tend to opt for a very minimalistic and very modern design, the developer and architect at Verano Residence have bucked the trend by going for a mix of tropical modern style. The interiors, while open plan with over 3metres high ceiling, are a combination of south east Asian influences and western modernism. This, in addition to the fact that the outside look of each villa blends well with nature, is one of the many reasons of the success of Verano with only 1 villa left in Phase 2. Phase 3 will be available starting from August 2017. Each villa has its own 2 vehicle private carpark, attached to a laundry and storage room, with the access to be either at the back of the property or in the front on the main floor there is a large open plan living, dining and fully fitted kitchen area with direct access to a large covered terrace and infinity swimming pool. There is also a guest toilet and a storage area on the main floor. The access to the top floor is an impressive 2m wide staircase, there you will find 3 large bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms and private balconies. In total, it’s nearly a stunning 400sq.m of living area at the disposition of each owner. 80

O N E CO A S T

And not forgetting that every room in each villa has that stunning sea view! The infrastructure is second to none. While some developers choose to maximize their land by building as many villas as possible, Verano Residence made the choice to offer their investors large 8-meter-wide roads and to give each villa at least 650 sq.m. of private land. On top of that, infrastructure such as underground 3 phase electricity and fibre optic internet are onsite. While water can be an issue on the island, the residence has completed 4 deep wells with 2 water storage tanks of 150 cubic meters each to prevent any issue with water supply. Furthermore, each villa has its own private water tank. So far, owners at Verano come from all horizons: China, Thailand, England, Australia, Hong Kong, South Africa, Singapore with approximately 50% of them having chosen Verano to be their permanent residence. The Sales office (with one of the best coffees on the island...) will later be turned into the management office where owners and tenants will have direct contact with the management company.

The sales office is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm. If you need to arrange a visit, the team can come to pick you up at your hotel or villa.

Smartphones are no longer a luxury for the lucky few but an important part of everyday life in this busy world, One Coast Magazine want you to get the most out of yours. From dating apps to QR scanners, your phone is capable of nearly anything these days, and some apps just rise above the rest. We’ve recently picked some of the newest favorites for you to review. Top 50 Amazing Experiences in Thailand

Thailand is an amazing country and whether you’re an experienced Thai traveller, expat or local interested in finding out more about Thailand, this free application will give you an overview of the Kingdom’s highlights. Explore Thailand’s top 50 experiences, from ancient temples and pristine beaches to outdoor adventures and world-class luxury, all on a simple and easy interface.

1Password

Password managers are becoming almost a must in this busy cyber world and one extremely popular and reliable password manager is 1Password. 1Password has a strong password generator, username and password storage, plus it offers secure sharing. It excels when it comes to its intuitive user interface and the built-in “watchtower” service, the latter of which is designed to notify you of ongoing website breaches. The software’s digital wallet also allows you to securely save everything from your logins and credit card information to sticky notes and network passwords. And since 1Password is a standalone app, accessing and editing your information is fast and efficient. The core app is free, however, you’ll need a monthly subscription or to pay a one-off to access advanced features (multiple vaults, Apple Watch support, tagging, and custom fields). It’s also cross-platform, meaning it will work with Windows and Android.

TaoMix 2

There are plenty of ambient noise apps, designed to help you relax, or to distract you from surrounding racket. TaoMix 2 is one of the best, due to its gorgeous interface and the flexibility of the soundscapes you create. You start off with a blank canvas, to which you drag noises that are represented as neon discs. These can be recoloured and resized, and positioned wherever you like on the screen. A circle is then placed to balance the mix, or flicked to roam about, so the various sounds ebb and flow over time. For free, you get eight sounds, can save custom mixes, and can even import your own recordings. Many dozens of additional sounds can be added that are available via various affordable internet sources.

Round Health

You might not associate taking medication with a hip and cool app, but technology can be a boon to anyone with such requirements. Round Health offers great pill tracking and dosage notifications – and it doesn’t do any harm that the app also happens to be gorgeous. It’s split into three sections: in My Medicine, you add medications, and for each you can define a name, strength, individual doses, and schedules based around reminder windows of up to three hours. In Today, you view and log the day’s medication. Flexible preferences enable you to set up cross-device sync, push notifications, and to export data - and reminding users to refill will be a real help too. That the app is free is generous, given the job it does – and how well it does it. Also, the system is flexible enough that Round Health might work as a reminders system for other repeating tasks, albeit one in which jobs are labelled as ‘taken’ rather than ‘done’!

Jewelry designer Vania Leles

A true ambassador of African heritage

words by Nagmani

It’s true that there are no limitations to what one can achieve in life. Plus it’s not easy to measure how much creativity one’s mind can engender. This is very much true of a daughter from Africa who is making waves in the jewelry sector today and everybody seems to be buoyed up by her designs which have only won applause whenever put on display. This famous London-based model-turned fine jewelry designer is none other than Vania Leles. Vania’s deep attachment with the universe of jewelry arose while she was working as a model in the US. She was living right above a jeweler in New York when she fell in love with jewelry. And she wanted to harness this passion keenly. “I used to come back from exhausting shoots and just spend hours looking at jewelry so it was then that the seed of inspiration was sown. I knew almost immediately that being a jewelry designer had to be my path from there on,” she said. Although she went to GIA in New York to study the craft of jewelry design saying that it’s a fabulous course, she mostly learnt on the job at some of the best jewelry houses from Graff Diamonds to De Beers and Sotheby’s Jewelry Department. It was extremely helpful as each place Vania worked at, she was able to focus on a different side of the business. At Graff, she worked as an in-house gemologist where she was able to get an unparalleled training in the area of diamond grading & sourcing and gave her a real instinct for good stones. After that she worked in the client side of the business at De Beers and Sotheby’s, advising people on their jewelry collections and what to invest in. “This was quite fascinating as it gave me a real insight into what women from different cultures around the world feel inspired by and also how important the intrinsic value of a jewel is at this level,” Vania said. Finally with the help of this comprehensive knowledge she had,Vania leapt forward and launched her label “VanLeles Diamonds” in 2011. There is no denying that her mission is to put Africa on the map when it comes to looking for magnificent pieces of jewelry. And she has succeeded to a degree, but she knows that there are lots of things to cover in order to stay on top in the long run. “I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved so far as it’s not an easy industry to break into in the first place if you don’t come from a family of jewelers. Besides, it is early days for us as we’ve a lot of goals to achieve yet,” she said. 84

The craze of her jewelry among women is quite impressive because of its bold and feminine style. “We stand out because our jewelry is made by a woman designing for women. I’m not afraid of using colors and know the women I design for today are looking for something unlike anything else. They want to be surprised,” Vania said. So far her enchanted garden cuff earrings have been the most popular style. “I’m sure it largely comes down to the bold scale and vibrant colors of the piece,” she said. Working with high quality material is also vital to her. Therefore, she mainly sets her jewelry in gold with precious stones that she sources from Africa as much as possible. At the same time, she always keeps herself aware of the provenance of a stone to ensure that it’s ethically sourced.

Inspiration rooted in African heritage There is so much she gets enthused by in life but a lot of it emanates from her roots in Africa where she spent much of her childhood. “Apart from that, I love to explore the exhilarating world of colors and patterns or for that matter even the people. Like any designer I can’t help but feel inspired by the elegance of vintage jewelry, art and the women I meet along the way,” Vania said.

As for her stance on what women tend to pay attention to while purchasing jewelry, she had this to say,“I love the phrase ‘wearable art’. I think that’s what most women are looking for. Something that’s really impactful and unusual but wearable and most importantly comfortable.” Women who like to wear my pieces she believes are known to be sophisticated, opinionated and above all an aesthete. According to Vania’s perspective, jewelry has a universal appeal but obviously plays more of a central role in some countries. “A lot of Europeans and Americans don’t wear bigger pieces in the daytime as there is such a trend for being casual and sporty but in the Middle East and Asia I find people are less afraid to wear statement jewelry,” she said. It’s no surprise that Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned is one of Vania’s influential muses as she pointed out, “She is so elegant and such a tastemaker. I also admire Tory Burch- she is fantastic, a mother and business woman. What a wonderful role model to look up to!

Even celebrities are not far from being smitten by Vania’s gorgeous creations. The ones she would like to dress are Livia Firth because of her dedication to ethical fashion, Kristin Scott Thomas because of her poise, elegance and craft, Emilia Clarke and Amal Clooney. However, her brand paradigm is also aimed at not loaning a lot to celebrities as most of Vania’s customers don’t want to wear something that has already been seen on someone before. “We really can’t afford to put this on the line. But if it was the right celebrity and they genuinely loved my work, we’re always open to working with them,” she said. Exposure is very crucial in the jewelry industry. As Vania only shows from an atelier in Bond Street London, it’s very important for her to show at international exhibitions. “I find the consumers there very knowledgeable and they are looking for something unique which suits us well,” she said. More beautiful collections to come Vania is currently working on a really exciting gold collection, inspired by the pyramids of Africa and traditional African village houses. While it’s in progress, she has another surprise in store for us. “I’m soon to be launching an ethical gold collection which is very exciting,” she said. “All in all, I want my brand to be known for its exceptional quality, beautiful and unique designs.” There is one more thing that she has in mind when we heard her say: “One day I would love to have my own showroom in the Middle East as it’s one of my favorite places to come to and I love the depth of knowledge and appreciation of fine jewelry from my customers in the region.” www.vanleles.com

jewellery back in fashion When it comes to jewellery, a women’s penchant is to always find beautiful and peculiar pieces that reveal their feminine beauty. There is no doubt that it’s something that requires a great deal of intuitive focus on behalf of a jewellery designer. One such new talent is Koh Samui-based jewellery designer Tal Bakal, who has been designing different and unique creations women and men will fall in love with at first sight. In an exclusive interview with One Coast, we caught up with him to find out what led him to start designing jewellery in the first place, what plans he has in store and much more.

Tal why have you picked jewellery as your trade? “It’s something that started a long time ago. I’ve been passionate about it since childhood, after I learnt how to make the first earrings. I’ve always loved jewellery and I like to see people wearing them. Wearing jewellery is a personal thing and represents something from within. If a jewel is set with stone, the stone also has its own significant powers and roles. It’s very well known that stones have energies and healing abilities, physical and mentally. What I like most about jewellery is creating them and thinking about their infinite designs.Almost every night when I go to bed and close my eyes, I imagine the next exciting thing I’m going to do. I’m lucky to do what I love.”

So how did everything start?

88

O N E CO A S T

“It all began for me at the age of 12, when one of my cousins arrived wearing a pair of earrings. It was just a pair of earrings made from a metal wire like a spiral hanging on a hook. I was surprised to hear that she was the one who made them, and not something that was bought from the flea market as I would have expected. I was so smitten by her work of art that I begged her to teach me how to do the same. We immediately went down to the neighbourhood to look for old telephone wires, because it turned out that’s what the earrings were made from. Then the same day, I made earrings embellished with beads, and went down to the neighbourhood to sell them to the girls for pennies. They’d buy from me one or two pairs, but it wasn’t a great product at the end of the day. The working material, such as the telephone cord was too soft and fell apart quickly. But my passion for the whole thing was already sown.

fashioninterview

and since then you are a jeweller? No, the jewellery was just a hobby, and for many years I was a hair stylist. But after I finished with hair styling, I started with jewellery again. But it was only at the age of 33 that I went to study it seriously. First I was working in a fancy bead shop as a designer. It was fun and I acquired much creative experience. After I left this shop, I went to the employment office, and they offered me a goldsmith’s course at their expense, an eight-month course, and I took it. Just before graduation, I was hired to work as a jewellery designer in a large silver factory for a few months. After that I started working as a jeweller in a small jewellery store and as a teacher in a jewellery studio. Then I decided that I wanted to create and sell my own jewellery. This led me to open a jewellery stand at a weekly artists’ fair in Tel Aviv, and the success was almost immediately seen. People were very fond of what I had designed. I gained ground in several more markets and for 10 months my success was growing. The dreams about having my own jewellery store had begun to be woven. But then we had a war in Israel and the economic crisis of the United States began. It was a hard time, but that was the time I decided to move to Thailand. Since then I’ve lived here for 8 years, but the shop I opened only 9 months ago.”

What are the materials you are working with? “The materials I work with today are silver and gold. When it comes to gold, I prefer to work with 18k gold and pure gold. I also love to work with precious and semi-precious stones like ruby, sapphire, spinel, pearls and many more.”

Endless flow of inspiration Inspiration comes to Tal from many directions. “I get inspired by people, movies, old jewellers, dreams and almost anything that I see. Once I was inspired by a baby’s toy, and then one time I had a dream that someone was showing me a flower ring…When I woke up, I started to work and I made six flower rings. Each one was different.” Even though it’s hard for any jewellery designer to pick one of their favourite pieces from the collections, when they say they love all their pieces, they still have their favourites which represent their style. And for Tal, the one jewel that truly sums him up is the curved Star of David. “When I was a teacher, I taught one of my students how to make a combined Star of David. During my explanation, I imagined how I was creating a curved, wavy Star of David. When I got home, I sat down to make it and fell in love with it at once. This is a very special Star of David, which looks different from other David Stars. This is the pendant I have been wearing for the last few years. As a person, I consider myself one who accepts changes with love. I’m easy-going, positive, thoughtful and a flowing person. The wavy shape of the David Star and the combination of the two triangles are an expression of who I am.

O N E CO A S T

91

Reviving the tradition Tal is proud to describe the concept of his jewellery and the shops name “primitive”. This is what his jewellery brings across.

why did you chose the name PRIMITIVE? “When I was looking for a name for the shop, I knew I needed a name that would show the handmade craftsmanship and the work of old times, because that’s what I still do today. When I was creating some large pendants for men, I thought about the first source, about the people of old times who invented the methods in goldsmiths work that have not changed to this day, and then suddenly that name occurred to me. The word “primitive” touches each one of us in different ways, we all have the same Primitive source, meaning in the good way. Whatever it is, I just want to make people feel pretty and unique when they wear my creations.” 92

O N E CO A S T

As of now, he is working on his summer collection and part of it especially the men’s part is already finished. “Most of the summer collection is combining pure gold on sterling silver surfaces on rings, pendants and bracelets, and on parts of them I add stones. Silver, gold and stones it’s a celebration of colours on every piece”. I’ve also pieces from only silver or only 18k gold. I always try to create something unique a one-off piece” For Tal, it’s important to be in high-profile exhibitions to bring more exposure to his brand. “That’s my goal to which I’m aiming. I’m sure you will see my pieces there in the future.” One thing that’s really fascinating about him as a jewellery designer is his belief that most of his jewellery (if not all) will still exist and be used long after he is gone.

Awesome bags and shoes by Paula Cademartori words by Nagmani

94

O N E CO A S T

body&mindcool stuff In the world of most high-end accessories brands, one thing never changes that is they want their products to be made in Italy. After all, Italy is blessed with an enriching history of unmatched artisanship. It’s even better if they have already got their own manufacturing units over here because it has the best artisans not available anywhere else. Influenced by this phenomenal heritage, the one person whose eponymous luxury label has really made it big is the Brazilian-born Italian-based handbag and shoe designer Paula Cademartori. Her bold print bags and shoes all produced in Italy are known to elevate the style quo of sophisticated women vividly. Cademartori in her childhood used to spend long afternoons playing with her grandmother’s dresses, jewels and accessories, taking them out one by one from her closet. And one day this simple hobby became a dream of hers to pursue. “I’ve always been interested in accessory especially bags. The bag is a statement. It fully reflects our taste and our personality. It’s a woman’s status symbol. I always used to say:“Tell me about the bag you’re wearing and I’ll tell you who you are,” she said. There is no denying that her intuitive spark contributed to who she is today. But her studies also made this goal possible. She studied Industrial Design in Porto Alegre, Brazil and had the opportunity to work with jewelry and shoes but then her passion for accessories brought her to Italy, where she did a Master’s course at Istituto Marangoni and then got a “Young Fashion Manager” certificate from Bocconi University in Milan in order to further hone her skills. The reason her bags have a strong fan base is because they’re contemporary and cosmopolitan in appearance. The overall design of Cademartori’s products is the result of her own style, her ideas and feelings and of course what she would like to wear herself. “My bag collections have to convey the message that accessory is something meant to last over time. That’s why I often draw my inspiration from classic bags, with the aim of exploring that same quality, that same chic and lasting elegance,” she said. Cademartori tends to get inspired by anything that seems to give her a sense of thrill. While working on a new collection, her view on everything is very personal and unique. “I just interpret my emotions and translate them into shapes, colors and textures. I try to bring something new in every collection and it takes a long research to always discover new elements. I’m a very curious person. I’m interested in the most diverse creative fields from art and music to cinema and literature,” she said. O N E CO A S T

95

Working with big fashion heavyweights like Versace Cademartori learnt a lot on all fronts while working alongside Donatella as part of her design team. As she explained, “My knowledge of fashion especially regarding accessories improved a great deal and of course my professional experience shone at the same time. And the amazing time I had at Versace gave me the opportunity to get to understand “the inside world” of this historical and multinational brand. From here on, the thought of starting my own brand kicked in and finally launched it in 2010.”

Hollywood celebs find it hard to resist It makes Cademartori really excited as well as feel rewarded when her muses and people she admires wear her handbags. Famous actresses and singers wear her bags, such as Beyoncé, Mischa Barton, Emma Roberts, Jane Fonda, Elizabeth Hurley, Pixie Lott, Rosario Dawson, Emilia Clarke and Kylie Minogue, and some of the most beautiful models like Natasha Poly, Kendall Jenner, Petra Němcová, Ana Beatriz Barros, Emily Ratajkowski, and Olivia Palermo. “But my creations are for every woman who appreciates and knows how to distinguish the quality and craftsmanship of an accessory. I love every woman who has a sense of class and elegance,” Cademartori said. When I design my bags and shoes, I always think about women, and firstly how to make them feel beautiful wearing my designed creations.” Using refined materials and colors She loves mixing the most different materials from the more refined to the poorest or to the unexpected ones. Her Brazilian spirit is well reflected in the way she plays with colors in her collections. “I always love to mix them and create different combinations. In each collection you will always find some bright colors or unexpected matches,” she said. It’s no wonder that her collections are popular among Arab women who she says have a strong attention to details, and they are the main expression of luxury.“I love the way they pay attention to what they choose for themselves —it’s an attitude that most people seem to have lost,” Cademartori said. Looking at her determination to make foray into new markets, there is no doubting Cademartori’s willingness to be working at full throttle to develop her company, add new product categories. “My overall aim is to create a real “Cademartori world” for my final customers. Besides, I’m deeply focused on extending my network of sales in the world and in a few years opening the first Paula Cademartori flagship store,” she said. “The journey is going to be full of surprises.”

This impressive dinner menu is named the ‘Journey of Jahn’ - harmoniously combines traditional Thai cooking techniques and flavours to offer guests an opportunity to try some of Thailand’s most traditional and delicious dishes. Inspired by a story of a local fisherman, farmer, and hunter who lived a simple life on a tropical Thai island, the team of master chefs carefully crafted the fivecourse Journey of Jahn, so that each dish celebrates the culture and produce of Koh Samui and thoughtfully selected and worked with local ingredients such as fresh coconut, red tuna, and lobster to match with old and new world wines.

The Journey of Jahn dinner menu comprises of: Amuse Bouche – 3 kinds of Thai snacks; Toong Thong, Miang Kum, and Por-Pia Thod. These famous Thai hors d’oeuvres are served in canapé style. Appetizers Plaa Pla Bai Bua: seared red tuna with Thai herbs, lemon and mint sauce. This creation is inspired by a story of a fisherman who starts his daily routine early in the morning, catching fish to eat and to sell at the fresh market. Following in Dracula’s footsteps, One Coast explores Romania’s best haunts… words by Mairead Doohan

For a holiday of contrasts, one can look no further than the South Eastern country of Romania. A destination that is notoriously hard to define, Bucharest offers, on one hand cobbled, chestnut tree lined streets bordered by baroque balconies and on the other a concrete jungle of communist housing blocks rising up seemingly out of nowhere. The countryside is another story altogether giving way to long panoramas of rolling hills and faraway mountains dotted with haystacks and crowned with fairy-tale castles.Treat yourself to a traditional Transylvanian welcome in the beautiful town of Brasov while hunting out Dracula in the breathtaking Peles castle. For an unsurpassed mix of cosmopolitan vibe and energy, look no further than the capital city of Bucharest. Often known as ‘the Paris of the East’ the city has a reputation for stunning art nouveau buildings, ancient churches and monasteries, lakes and elegant boulevards. Artfully renovated buildings come to life as hotels, bars and museums. Coming in off the streets, Bucharest’s culinary and wine scene is certainly worth getting excited about as the city stands out in the Balkans for its gastronomic feasts. With the ferocious summer heat just a hazy memory, late autumn is the perfect time to explore this compelling city’s unexpected delights. One Coast Magazine spent a long weekend investigating whether we could get any closer to finding a definitive description for this diverse country.

SLEEP Hotel Cismigiu First opened in 1912 as the Palace Hotel and the most impressive hotel in Bucharest at the time, Hotel Cismigiu has a rich and vivid history. Surviving occupation during 2 World Wars, housing poets, governments and even breweries the residence was nearly abandoned in the 1980s. Fortunately a loving revival in 2012 by Hercasa has seen the hotel, and all its history, come back to life. The interior of the hotel represents a stylish combination of modernity and traditional features, but the outer façade is what really takes your breath away. Located the perfect distance from the old town and well within reach of trendy cafes and bars, the whitewash walls and iron clad balconies stand regally above the bustling street. Inside, the 60 duplex suites artfully marry technological ease with luxury sophistication. Each offering a tremendous amount of space to allow for a true feeling of relaxation and many even boasting a kitchen and sitting room to truly make yourself at home. Don’t miss the stunning view from the rooftop restaurant, where you can watch the sun dropping behind the ominous Parliamentary building.

The Artist As with many of our highlighted stops in Bucharest, The Artist is a combination of old and new. The innately historical building is delicately partnered with modern design, while traditional cooking techniques are used to create pioneering flavours. Combining the two perfectly, Chef Paul Oppenkamp’s creations are a surprising blend of textures and flavours that revolutionized the dining experience in the city. Emphasis at The Artist is on culinary experience and each dish pushes to produce an emotive response. From the lavender infused dry ice accompanying the local cheeses to the effervescent berry consommé poured lovingly over a white chocolate fondant by the chef himself, Paul aims to reach ‘every sensory chord’ of his diners. And it does not disappoint. Artistry is rife in the presentation of the dishes and no detail has been overlooked as innovative dishes and high quality ingredients present a unique dining experience. As you would expect, the menu is reviewed regularly to ensure seasonal masterpieces and variety for the many loyal visitors. Try the wine paring menu for a real treat, the sommelier’s vast knowledge of new and old world wines and particular of, often unknown, Romanian wines will make sure that this is a meal not to be forgotten. www.theartist.ro 104

Caru Cu bere A more relaxed and often lively restraint but equally a true delight to the senses where you can enjoy uniquely crafted ales beside authentically mouth-watering Romanian dishes. Caru Cu Bere is proud to be dynamically preserving the immortal spirit of the old Bucharest. Established in 1879 and restored in 2009 the restaurant and brewery are a consistent feature throughout the City’s story. Hosting traditional music, dance and cultural events, Caru Cu Bere is a must-visit for anyone wanting to experience, and taste, traditional Romanian hospitality. House favourites, amongst locals as well as tourists, are the delectable mittitei and tochitura, which go down perfectly alongside a glass of the house brew. With knowledgeable staff eager to help with suggestions and trials it is the perfect place to sample the delights of the native vineyards. www.abelswinebar.ro

Fratelli Social Club One of the highlights of Bucharest, showcasing love, laughter and luxury in true Romanian style. This almost-outdoor club roofed by a unique matchstick creation is bursting with spirit from when it opens the doors until the sun comes up. Talented bar staff create unique, slightly lethal, concoctions to suit guest’s tastes and desires. The Prosecco, gin and elderflower fantasy that I was presented with was justly christened ‘I want more’ by the manager. With top class DJs vying to visit and a score of party-mad locals, you’d be crazy to visit Bucharest without stopping by. Once the heat gets too much follow in the locals bare-feet footsteps as they embark to the ocean and head to the Fratelli Beach Club at Mamaia where the party continues. www.fratelli.ro O N E CO A S T

NEWLY LAUNCHED HG FOUNDATION TO CHAMPION SUSTAINABILITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN ASIA BANGKOK,THAILAND – In anticipation of an upcoming wide-scale expansion across Asia, HG Holdings have launched a revolutionary foundation tasked with centralizing and expanding the companies CSR activities. Led by a group of experienced leaders who truly care about their cause, the HG Foundation will be spearheading the company’s vision of a brighter future for tourism in Asia. Mr. Nam, founder of HG Holdings, has always been a strong believer in his company as the cause of positive change throughout the communities in which it operates, and has instilled a company-wide dedication to giving back and championing environmental causes. When considering HG Holdings’ upcoming expansion and rapid projected growth, it was deemed necessary to form a CSR Foundation which is to become an integral part of HG Holdings and its subsidiaries’ DNA and company culture.

ecohabitat The HG Foundation launches with a clear vision of what needs to be done. In the first year of operations, the Foundation will focus upon 3 objectives. Integrating their methodology into every aspect of business, centralize and expand upon pre-existing socially responsible initiatives and expand their network of institutional and NGO partners who share the Foundation’s vision. Darius Postma has taken leadership of the programme as Foundation Director. Having been brought up around conservation initiatives in South Africa his passion for sustainable and responsible tourism was instilled at a young age. After joining Bhaya cruises and being appointed the project leader for their CSR programme, he was instrumental in the banning the use of polystyrene from Ha Long Bay, which served to inflame his love for the field. Darius now intends to use the knowledge gained from his success in Vietnam and implement it throughout all of HG Holdings’ subsidiaries and their respective regions. “Unlike some other CSR programmes, the HG Foundation isn’t an add-on or secondary project, we plan to implement our vision into every aspect of business,” Said Darius Postma, Foundation Director. “The foundation will be a success because we truly care about our cause, and will persevere to ensure we achieve it” Prior to its official launch, the HG Foundation has been working closely with HG Holdings’ subsidiaries to implement CSR initiatives around South East Asia. The Foundation saw considerable success with the Halong Bay Clean-up event this past January, even representing Bhaya Cruises in the prestigious Cat Ba Alliance Leadership committee. The Foundation has also established tree planting projects in Preah Dak Village, Cambodia, with the aim to offset carbon emissions from their operations and tourism. On the 21st of February 2017 the Foundation, in collaboration with the Bhaya Cruises, launched a campaign to raise awareness and funds for the critically endangered Cat Ba Langur monkey. They designed and developed a soft toy and fridge magnets, depicting this iconic animal, that are sold on their fleet of boats with 50% of the profits going to the Cat Ba Langur Conservation project. Now that the HG Foundation has officially launched, they plan to initiate a series of planned operations

across South East Asia. Beginning with an extended tree planting operation, Roots & Fruits, focusing on the nine current areas of operation for HG Holdings, they plan to plant hundreds of fruit trees in impoverished neighbourhoods to support local communities. This is to be followed by further campaigns to raise awareness and funds for some of Asia’s most critically endangered species, and a ‘Travel for People’ activity wherein children from a local orphanage are given a day tour around Hanoi to inspire them to reach for their dreams. “We have been looking forward to officially launching the Foundation for months, having already completed a significant body of work behind the scenes. Now that we have done so, we can continue working towards achieving our vision,” Said Darius Postma. “We see a bright future for tourism in Asia, but everyone needs to do their part to secure that future as it will not be achieved by lone corporate efforts” The HG Foundation acts as a guardian of the sustainability and responsible tourism approach for all subsidiaries of HG Holdings. They will be operational across all countries the group currently has a presence in and will be maintaining the company’s vision to be a sustainable and responsible business as the group expands across Asia. HG Holdings is the parent company for four core fields of business within Asia. Travel with the newly rebranded ASIA DMC and SENS ASIA which launched last year, cruise operation with Bhaya cruises, Au Co cruise, and Legend Halong. As well as a hospitality arm managing Lang Co Beach Resort and a new five-star luxury river resort in Hội An and finally as general sales agent for American Airlines, Jeju, air and Turkish Airlines. words by Matt Howard

just out WONDER WOMAN

Gal Gadot, Chris Pine Following the troubled arrival of two extra-large movies in what is now called the DC Extended Universe -- the incoherent Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the slapdash Suicide Squad -- all eyes have now turned to the next film in the saga, Wonder Woman. While no one movie can rescue an entire brand, Wonder Woman fortunately does the best possible job it can under the circumstances restoring fun under what was sinking under its own darkness.

just out THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS

Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Kurt Russell Since the beginning of this franchise over 16 years ago, this crew has been through street racing, bank robbing, pulling a plane out of the sky, and dropping from a similar plane in the sky. It has been clear throughout every instalment that these films are just going to get more ridiculous. I will admit though that I had an absolute blast from beginning to end.

The movie draws from the Marvel Cinematic Universe by telling a mostly straightforward origin story. Following a brief modern day opening, the movie plays as an extended flashback in which we first meet Diana as a little girl (Lilly Aspell) on the island of Themyscira, where an all-female population known as the Amazons live in secret from the rest of the outside world. Some years pass and the outside world comes to the island in the form of Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), an American spy who is shot down while escaping in a German plane during World War I. Rescued by a now-grown Diana (Gal Gadot), Steve describes the terrible situations around the world and warns that they will come to Themyscira eventually.

Gal Gadot is not the best actress in the world but handles the fish out of water storyline really well with the movie having many amusing moments. Where she really comes into her own is the action sequences where she shows she can carry herself just as well as any Batman or Superman in battle, which began in the previous movie. Chris Pine also shows how underated he is as an actor and the chemistry between them both works really well. The only downside to the film is the typical big CGI blowout at the end which seems to be the norm with super hero movies these days but overall a solid effort and a sequel is probably been greenlit as we speak.

The plot is quite flimsy but it was never going to be groundbreaking and basically involves Dom (Vin Diesel) being blackmailed by the cyber terrorist Charlize Theron to go rouge against his old team.

The set pieces are extremely entertaining if not over the top including throwing cars out of windows in New York City to turning round torpedoes with your bare hands on the ice caps (yes that does happen).

The Fate of the Furious doesn't do anything new for the franchise, but it's a welcome entry.

With The Fate of the Furious you have to watch these films as if you are sitting in the theatre watching a Marvel film. There are just too many unbelievable things happening.

All the old favourite characters return with Jason Statham’s character being forced to join the team through the always impressive Kurt Russell and is a welcome addition as he brings a bit of “time out” to the big set piece car action sequences. The newcomers Helen Mirren and Scott Eastwood are also welcome additions with Helen Mirren doing her very best “Pat Butcher” impression.

I've immensely enjoyed almost every film up until this point, but I do believe the action is at its peak. Basically if you leave your brain at the door and are just looking to escape for a couple of hours then this is the movie for you.

focustop movies & tv

just out ALIEN: COVENANT

Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterson, Damien Bichir, Danny McBride If you take the first Alien and mix in a little Prometheus, you have Alien: Covenant.

As they repair the ship, they catch a stray signal from a nearby planet. When they investigate the planet further, it appears it may be suitable for a human colony and seven years closer to reach than their original destination When they arrive, the planet at first appears perfect for human life. But as they investigate further, they discover a hidden threat from the Alien.

Ten years after the events of Prometheus, the spaceship Covenant is on its way to start a colony on a distant planet. En route the ship is severely damaged. The crew is awoken from cryogenic sleep by the ship’s computer “Mother” and the robot Walter.

What works with the movie is that they are a lot more Aliens than Prometheus had which was the main complaint about the first movie. When the aliens are on screen it is when the movie is most entertaining and also quite intense. Special mentions must go out to Michael Fassbender who is excellent playing both robots Walter and

to movie adaptations, this seeks to make fun of all of it, plus all the slo-mo beach running. Does it come off as good as Jump Street? No, not at all!!

BAYWATCH

The movie is easy enough to sit through and the laughs, while not great, are consistent.

Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron Baywatch is a movie based off the popular TV show of the same name . The movie is very much like the show; as in if you walk in expecting to take it seriously you're already watching it wrong. The situations people need to be rescued from are ridiculous and farfetched and the main plot here is not much better. And like 21 Jump Street and a bunch of lesser TV

Matt Brody (Zak Efron) is a former Olympic swimmer who wants to join a team of lifeguards led by the hulking Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson) Brody starts to instantly rub Mitch the wrong way. When a drug dealer threatens the beach they must both stop arguing to save the day. Where the script is pretty bad, the cast knows how to make fun of itself. The Rock is the guy takes the job very seriously. Zac Efron is the selfish, cool pretty boy trainee who clashes with him.

David and also Danny McBride for his portrayal of pilot Tennessee. On the downside the movie does come across as Alien and Prometheus just blended together and has many moments of humans just making bad decisions just like your typical B horror movie If you like the Alien series, then Alien: Covenant is worth checking out on the big screen. Even if you don’t love the film, it is beautifully shot, and entertaining, But if you did not like Prometheus, don’t expect much more from this.

The women aren't as funny but I guess you can say they add some nice support to that and to the action. Alexandra Daddario has shown a few times she's a pretty decent actress, and the others don't just seem like stiffs there to just show off a hot body. Priyanka Chopra is also here as the villain, and she's fine. The whole movie can really be described as fine. It's funny and doesn't take itself too seriously and the cast all seems game for it.

Koh Yao

Koh Yao consists of 2 main islands, Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai, and several small surrounding islands. Koh Yao Yai along with the smaller but more developed Koh Yao Noi sits in the middle of Phang Nga Bay, with Phuket to the west and Krabi in the east. A beach-lover's paradise, Koh Yao is one of only a few of Thailand’s southern islands that remains a quiet, unspoiled refuge away from the crowds. Koh Yao Yai means Big Long Island and is 30 km long. It’s populated by thick mangroves, coconut groves, rubber plantations and picturesque villages, all of which are fringed by pristine white-sand beaches. Koh Yao has only a few resorts and guesthouses, fishing and farming remain the primary source of income for residents. A visit to Koh Yao Yai means to slow down and enjoy the lush landscapes, making it ideal for couples on a romantic break, families seeking a quiet beach holiday or those simply looking for peace and quiet.

If there is one must-see sight that no visit to Bangkok would be complete without, it's the amazing Grand Palace, undoubtedly the city's most famous landmark. The Grand Palace is still used for official events and several royal ceremonies and state functions are held within the walls of the palace every year.
