SANDALS GRENADA:
The Sweet Styles of Chef Kan! Pastry Chef Kanisha Williams @Kancakes_gd took a moment to reflect and celebrate her 27th birthday after a personally tumultuous past three years; grappling with a seemingly consistent stream of loss of close relatives, including her mother. Despite the challenges she has grown and continues to glow. With an astute eye for details, and using her art form to mark the occasion, for her self-made birthday cake, she selected a textured buttercream finish, with a majestic colour combination of a royal purple, gold and white. “Although my life has been rough, things still work out; the textured cream symbolizes how rough things can still become beautiful. I still managed to accomplish a lot and I continue to grow through my challenges.” On the decision of the cake flavor, she decided diplomatically, “I chose red velvet and chocolate for my

family to enjoy. Believe it or not I don’t actually eat a lot of sweet.”
8
Notwithstanding, the glamourous cake did not manage to outshine its maker during her birthday photoshoot at a cliff edge in the South of Grenada. She shared, “In terms of my outfit, I wasn’t able to get purple (my favourite colour), but there was this beautiful fuscia colour available so I just went it. I wanted something fun but elegant, and this style grabbed my attention, so I had my seamstress create it and I love it.”

GM’s Power Lunch
THE BUZZ
Sandals Montego Bay’s General Manager Christopher Elliott recently staged his first GM’s Power Lunch since arriving at The Flagship, and what a hit it turned out to be. The Power Lunch is the hottest ticket on the property as the General Manager ensures team members are not only rewarded for outstanding work during the ongoing pandemic but are able to listen to personal and work-related issues first-hand, address any concerns that may arise as well as pass on special commendations. “It’s very important that I am able to have this personalized interaction with the team members in a relaxed atmosphere,” Mr. Elliott observed. “The GM’s Power Lunch affords that opportunity, so no matter how busy my schedule is for the week, I try and find that extra hour or two to spend with them.” GM Elliott underscored the importance of nurturing and lending a caring hand to team members during the pandemic because of the mental stresses that may be brought on both personally and professionally. “Being one of the first resorts to open in Jamaica, we understand how tough it has been for persons to perform at their optimum during these times. It is also very important to receive feedback about the atmosphere in which they are functioning since they play a key role in ensuring that our Sandals Platinum Protocols of Cleanliness is maintained along with the world-class customer service for which our company is worldrenowned”. Meanwhile, team member Petagaye from the Bar said “This is only one of the many ways the company fosters interactions and we welcome it. Not only is the food at the restaurant sumptuous, but our general

Sandals Royal Caribbean lauds supervisors Sandals Royal Caribbean’s General Manager Dawn Smith has described supervisors as one of the backbones of that property and fitting of all the accoladed being heaped upon them. To this end, they were feted royally, and a lavish culinary spread rolled out for them at an annual appreciation function held in their honour recently. In addition, each supervisor walked away with a special gift courtesy of the resort. The event was spearheaded by the resort’s Human Resources Department and saw managers acting as servers and waiters to show their appreciation for the outstanding job the supervisory team has been doing and continues to do. Human Resources Manager Herbert Richards heaped praise on the team, noting they were the front-line buffer between the heads of departments and the line team members. “We cannot thank you enough for the outstanding work that you do, but today we are trying to show our appreciation,” Mr. Richards said. The supervisors were pleased with the meal and the gifts handed out to them and voiced their appreciation

It also cultivated in me a spirit of volunteerism.” Coming from a medical family, Charles says he initially wanted to be a dentist, however, after sitting his A-Level’s he had the opportunity to attend the Lausanne Hotel Business School in Switzerland. There, with a thirst for knowledge and experiences outside of his courses, Charles began his first internship at a 5 star hotel. Diversity could be our last name.” Charles’ journey with Sandals originally began in Negril in 2009 as a Food & Beverage Director, however, he also held that position at Sandals Grande Antigua, Sandals LaToc, and Sandals LaSource. “It did not take long to fall in love with the Islands: the sea, the sun, the culture but most of all the people and the spirit in our resorts.” He notes that he has always enjoyed being able to train and help team members and managers develop, sharing his knowledge and experiences to help them reach their full potential.
