COLLEGE PREPARATORY Study with a higher purpose Mission Statement We are a college-preparatory Catholic high school located on the historic grounds of the San Gabriel Mission. Our faith-driven community provides a safe environment for young women to grow as spiritual, intellectual, creative, and athletic leaders. Our financially accessible opportunities serve a diverse and inclusive student body of local, commuter, and international students in the Greater Los Angeles area. A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Dear Future Mission Student and Family:
Thank you for your interest in SGMHS—the only parish high school in the San Gabriel Valley which happens to be on the historic grounds of the 4th California Mission - Mission San Gabriel! We are delighted that you are considering us and welcome the possibility of working with you to educate your daughter. Over 70 years ago, SGMHS Claretian Parish Priests, the Dominican Sisters, and parishioners devoted themselves to a labor of love that continues to this day. I can only imagine how much faith, hope, and love our founding parishioners, sisters, and priests must have felt when they committed themselves to starting a co-institutional high school that would serve their young men and women and those of surrounding parishes. Everyone at SGMHS shares their commitment and their love and since 1971 it has been devoted to the education of young women in a single-sex environment. I am confident that our founders—and all those who have gone before us—would be pleased to discover that their faith, hope and hard work have paid off. For over twenty-six years of SGMHS's 70 years, I have been blessed to be a member of this community as student, teacher, and administrator. In my time here, I have participated in the work of the school in many different capacities, but feel especially honored to serve as principal of my Alma Mater Mission High. Today, Mission empowers young women to be Christian Leaders for the world while making them college confident and personally grounded in the love of God, self, and others. I invite you to learn more about us. Our website will give you a good idea of the opportunities we offer, but nothing compares to coming to experience it yourself. Please come and see what Mission High would be like for you. Join us for mass, take a tour of our campus, talk to our teachers, administrators, and staff, or ask one of our students or parents about their experience here. We’re sure that once you get to know the Mission family, you’ll want to be a part of it! God Bless you and your family, Ms. Raquel Cagigas, M.A., M.A., '96 Principal

SPIRITUAL RETREATS
The Retreat Program at San Gabriel Mission High School focuses on helping students grow in their spiritual life. TRADITIONS
Mission Pioneers truly feel the spirit of our unique school when we celebrate our traditions. Whether its decorating hallways or competing for spirit points, our longstanding traditions play a major role in the fabric of Mission. At SGMHS, we hold our traditions dear as they keep us connected to our alumni and allow us to stay true to our roots. Some of our most cherished traditions include: Class Day: This is one of the most special days on campus. It is held at the end of the school year and is sponsored by the junior class. It consists of the “moving up” ceremony of the classes to their new grade level. As their class is announced, they recite their pledge to accept the responsibilities of the next grade. The freshman class reveals their class identity, sophomores become upper class women, and the juniors unveil their senior sweaters. Seniors are inducted into the Alumni Association at this time. This is also the student body’s farewell to the seniors as they BECOME A GOOD DIGITAL CITIZEN sing special songs to remind them of their bond. Class Identity: From Elite Jaguars to Radiant Phoenixes, each year the freshman class is tasked with creating their own class identity. They choose their class colors, class mascot, and class song. This identity will stay with them all four years at Mission and beyond, forever uniting them as one. Their identity is kept secret all year and only revealed at the end of spring semester on Class Day. Big Sister/Little Sister: Mission girls embrace their motto “Come as strangers, leave as sisters.” Each freshman is assigned a big sister in the senior class. The older students serve as their little sister’s mentor and help them in their high school journey.
