My Mission is… EDUCATION
Pictured in this photo is Ms. Sallo in Tanzania, Africa at a small village where she taught families HIV and AIDS awareness and prevention.
Mission. What does it mean to live your mission and to fulfill your life’s purpose? Does it mean walking over 7 miles in extreme conditions everyday to reach an area in need? Does it mean carving time out of your schedule to make a genuine connection with others? For our Principal, Ms. Marielle Sallo, it does. She leads our young women by example. Her efforts in education and community service have extended far beyond our borders. She is instrumental in the inspiration that our students find within themselves to give back to the world. “I want students to find their passion and live out their lives in a meaningful way. Now is the time to be at Mission, and I am blessed to be part of it.” -Ms. Marielle Sallo, Principal
Giving life meaning. It is important to give your life meaning, but it is vital to shed light in the meaning of the lives of others. Samantha Sosa is an 11th grader at San Gabriel Mission High School. She participates in a variety of activities on and off campus such as sports and clubs, in addition to being a International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme student. Guided by the mission and values San Gabriel Mission High School instills in its students, she has been volunteering at The Los Angeles Catholic Worker Center in Downtown for the past three years. At the center, she cooks and serves meals to the less fortunate. “After a hard long day at the kitchen, knowing that I made a difference is truly the best feeling ever. Giving back to those in need is so important. We often take advantage of the things we have and never truly realize how lucky we are. After volunteering at the kitchen for three years, I have learned to appreciate all that I have and my parent’s hard work because they are the ones who provide my food, shelter, clothes and so much more.“ My -Samantha Sosa, 11th grade
Mission is… SERVICE
Taking action. Many children need an example of leadership and generosity to blossom into the best versions of themselves. Claudia Martinez, 12th grader at San Gabriel Mission High School, volunteers at the Pecan Recreation Center in East Los Angeles. The center serves as a safe haven for the children of the neighborhood. It gives them a place away from the problems of the community, such as drug and gang activity. She has been sharing her time with at-risk youth for over 5 years at the center with a variety of activities such as their Summer Program, tutoring, and coaching their volleyball team.
My Mission is… TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
Claudia embodies our mission in action. San Gabriel Mission High School, an IB World School, rooted in the Dominican and Claretian traditions, empowers young women to pursue education marked by respect, motivation, depth, character & integrity throughout their lives. “The reward of volunteering is watching the kids become more successful in their academics and social life.” - Claudia Martinez, 12th grade

IB SCHOLARSHIPS As an IB World School, San Gabriel Mission High School is a proud member of a global community committed to the development of inquiring, knowledgeable and caring youth through active global citizenship. To be a part of this program at SGMHS, additional tuition fees are required. Through your donations, you will be able to help sponsor an IB student towards her path of success. CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS Phase II– Air Conditioning Project Currently 60% of our campus has air conditioning. Being located in the San Gabriel Valley means our students and teachers experience high degree heat waves. When our facilities become overheated, it becomes a health hazard for our students, faculty and staff with special medical conditions. Due to our antiquated facility, we do not have central air conditioning throughout the school. With your support, we will be able to repair the broken units in various classrooms and install air conditioning in the remaining needed areas of the campus.
