NEW SERMON SERIES
RELUCTANCE INTO BOLDNESS This sermon series is based on the book, Moses, by Adam Hamilton. As we read passages in Exodus we will retrace the key moments of the life of Moses from his modest birth and rescue as a baby to the courts of Pharaoh, from herding flocks in Midian to leading his people out of Egypt. We will discover a reluctant prophet who grew in his relationship with God and by the end of life had successfully fulfilled the role he was given. We too can turn our own reluctance into boldness as we examine the significant challenges facing Moses and how God shaped his character and life in powerful ways.

On behalf of the staff, students, and families of Keeling Elementary School, I would like to express our sincere thanks for the amazing services you provided for our school this summer. Our teachers were thrilled to have help and they accomplished so much! We are indebted to people like you who value public education and understand how important quality teachers are to our community. Teachers are often undervalued and underappreciated and this generous gift makes all the difference in the world. We appreciate your time and energy that you donate to the Tucson community. It is people like you that renew our hope in a good future for our youth. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Sincerely, Annette Orelup Principal, Keeling Elementary.
Thank you to Securaplane Technologies for the $500 donation for one of our Service Worship projects, La Frontera. We were able to purchase bus passes for clients that are severely mentally ill and unable to get around to their jobs except by bus. Thank you Securaplane Technologies for your generosity! MISSIONS MISSION OUTREACH MINISTRY
DAILY BREAD
I had the privilege of leading the July Service Worship project for La Frontera Mental Health Clinic. Although this organization has three main clinics in Tucson, we focused on the Mountain Ave location because they serve a clientele that is 100% SMI (severely mentally ill), many of whom are homeless or living in shelters. On Monday morning we delivered 100 Blessing Bags filled with travel size hygiene products, 100 bagged lunches, and over a dozen cases of water which were all provided by you, the faithful servants of St. Andrew’s.
The feedback has been overwhelming! All the provisions were greatly appreciated and put to immediate use. As a result of the lunches, group therapy sessions increased in attendance and clients were found to be more cooperative and receptive to counsel because their tummies were full. They were very surprised and grateful for the many lunch items included in each bag. The staff likened their reactions to children
opening gifts on Christmas morning, saying, “They removed the food items one at a time, oohing and ahhing over each... Even the simple act of applying their own condiments to their sandwiches made them feel special and pampered.” One of the men hadn’t eaten for three days so he was especially grateful!
This project resulted in many blessings, not just for the recipients but for the providers as well, and emails continue to fly back and forth as God takes this onetime project and grows it into a ministry, called, appropriately enough, DAILY BREAD! We are also including a Scripture in each lunch so our friends do indeed receive their DAILY BREAD!

MOMENT FOR MISSION
Hearing the Moment for Mission about the Haven Totes project really resonated with me and inspired me to step up. The thought of children coming to school hungry on a Monday morning, after having little to no food over the weekend, really caught my attention. For most of us, we have never truly experienced hunger. Sure, we sometimes have a busy day and don’t have time to grab lunch, so by evening, we’re hungry and irritable. But, hunger is a reality for these children. It only makes sense that after not receiving good nourishment over the weekend, these kids are likely to be lethargic, unable to focus, perhaps grumpy, and as a result, it is only logical that their learning is significantly impacted. The message really tugged at my heartstrings, and I wanted to go and scout out the best deals I could to stretch my dollars to buy as much food as possible to help fill those weekend food bags. For me, I felt like God was calling me to help answer this need. Later, as I was driving home from the grocery store, it occurred to me that if every time each of us in our church went to the grocery store, we were to buy one item, such as a case of canned corn or a large box of oatmeal packets, we would SO quickly fill the 130+ bags that St. Andrew’s is providing for Haven Totes each week. In fact, it would likely allow the CONTACT church’s contribution to the program to expand and provide RUTHANN SMITHRUD for many more families as well. I appreciate the opportunities Director of Mission Outreach that the Moment for Missions provides. -Brenda Tranchina rsmithrud@sapctucson.org 297-7201 x204

How can we secure a stable financial future at St. Andrew’s for generations to come? We can fund an endowment which will provide a steady income stream in perpetuity. Your gift to the endowment will further the spiritual and charitable purposes of our church. A substantial endowment will decrease the reliance and pressure on annual giving. Besides a cash or estate gift, other options include required minimum distributions from an IRA, stock, gifts that pay income to you, life insurance, and more. Please consider St. Andrew’s as part of your estate planning. For more information contact the church office at 297-7201.

SEPTEMBER ARTIST: SUSAN HILDRETH
volume 2018 - number 8
Do you like nature? To me, it represents the unending manifestation of God. I am a nurse, botanist, birdwatcher, and now an artist. I try to represent the beauty and joy we see around us. Most of my life has been in the midwest, and now in Tucson. I volunteer with a seniors art group each week. Art is a means of personal satisfaction, expression, and therapy. It is very helpful to keep our brains sharp and healthy. Each week new stories on these themes emerge. It is so imprtant for all of us to find an outlet for expression and keep working on it. My paintings will be on display from September 9 to October 14. I hope you enjoy looking at them.
