David Stack, Warren Keedle, Lorraine Spear and Renate Pryor all looking forward to the new building facility at the Age of Fishes Museum.
Age Of Fishes Museum Receives Grant
A $300 000 grant has been allocated to the Age of Fishes Museum for the construction of a purpose-built storage facility and research building to house the 370 million year old fossil collection. Construction is planned for early next year with the paperwork getting underway now. Manager of the Age of Fishes, Warren Keedle said, “ This will be employing more people, not only with the construction but we need people to do catalouging as we do transfers, as well as more guides for school groups. This would mean more volunteers as well as paid employment.” The planned site will be located at the back and to the right of the current building, with current processes working out the positioning of the building due to the location of a storm water drain. Access to the new building will still be through the main entrance with a covered path directing you to the new facility. This will be well integrated
into the current structure. The new facility at this stage will be climate controlled, allow access to every fossil stored, include a scientific workshop for study on the fossils and have an open exhibition area. “It will allow universities and palaeontologist to come down here and spend time doing research but it will also be part of the tour that visitors can come see too,” Warren said. This funding has been a long time coming with the original tender being put in five years ago, then the current tender was put in 18 months ago. “Theres been a lot of work from a lot of people to get where we are, from the staff to the volunteers and a special mention to Alex Richie and Bruce Loomes who have been part of the whole process,” Warren said.

Canowindra Pre School Kindergarten receivesd “Exceeding” across the seven quality areas in their recent Quality and Assessment Rating from the NSW Early Childhood Education and Care Directorate. The Management Committee, Staff, families and members of the community are so proud to see Canowindra Pre School Kindergarten recognised and valued as a service of Exceeding Quality. The Officer who conducted the service’s assessment prepared a Rating Outcome Summary which recorded the service’s practices against the National Quality Standard along with an Assessment Evidence Summary, which outlines the information that was considered when determining the rating. The Officer’s final summary reported to say - Your service is commended on its achievements in providing quality outcomes for children. In particular, providing a curriculum that consistently incorporates children’s ideas and interests and the positive and responsive relationships with children and their families demonstrates the commitment to quality by the approved provider, staff and educators. The countdown is now on until Christmas so it’s time to start planning to put your Christmas tree up and decide on a theme. There are so many different styles and coloured tress but it is important to choose one that reflects your personality and one that suits your colour scheme, so decide on that early on. Are you traditional, modern, classy or do you take a trip down memory lane when decorating your tree? Whatever you may choose ensure it suits your lifestyle, as if you have pets or children you might want to opt for unbreakable decorations such as cotton wool, felt or feathers. A traditional colour scheme is classic red, green, white or metallics. This years favourite colours are pastels, brass and copper. Spacing and layering can separate your tree from others. To add depth create layers and place your favourite ornaments front and centre and at eye level. Now to just add some lights now. Lighting provides that elegant element to any tree and makes you feel the festive spirit. Next up is location. Most homes will have limited space but it is important to place your Christmas tree in a low traffic area but still front and centre to be shown off. Are you one of those parents who won’t let your kids decorate the tree? This is completely normal as perfectionism takes over. It is important however to remember what Christmas is all about and that is love. Maybe this year assist your child decorating the tree even if you have to change it later. Kids love getting into the Christmas spirit and it is important to share that experience with them. Once you have your tree sorted you would think that would be it. Definitely not, that colour scheme should continue throughout the rest of the house decorations and Christmas wrapping. This will really stand out and create a flow through your home. This is however just an option. There is creativity and fun in mismatched decorations and wrapping, and that may well be your personality so go for it. Christmas is all about enjoying the small things in life and spending time with friends and family. However, don’t get too caught up in the stress that Christmas often brings, instead rejoice in what you already have and remember to just love more this festive season.

Fate of Orange Seat Remains Unknown There has been a massive swing of 21% against the Nationals at the Orange Byelecton held last Saturday. With counting still continuing (at time of going to print), the Shooters Party were ahead by 103 votes. The ANTY group from Molong, thanked the people of the electorate of Orange, and in particular the citizens of Cabonne and Orange who have made their voices heard, and the result clearly demonstrates the strength of the power of the people that surely this current NSW Government can no longer ignore. With Troy Grant, the leader of the Nationals and his Deputy both resigning, and Premier Mike Baird, saying, ‘this has been a terrible result’ , surely now someone in Macquarie Street will listen to the people of Cabonne when they say, “We do not want to merge with Orange City Council!” Troy Grant said “I hope that through my actions, the NSW Government is given the opportunity to pause and reset the way it is seen to be governing, Regional NSW is full of hardworking decent people who want to
see their Government supporting them.” Premier Mike Baird needs to listen to the voices of the regional people, and the Nationals need to take the voice of the bush to the Parliament, not merely be a puppet to the Baird Government. Troy Grant conceded on Monday that he had got it wrong on the greyhound ban and generally by not bringing the community along with them in the decisions they’ve made. Have the Nationals and Premier Baird also got it wrong on the amalgamation issue? We all wonder, will this finally make them reconsider this process, and as promised consult with the ratepayers before making a final decision, something they decided not to do with the greyhound decision. Mayor Ian Gosper, Cabonne Council said, “This result confirmed that the local Councils are listening to their ratepayers, and we do not have it wrong, yet the State Government is still not listening.” By Cheryl Newsom

Hello readers, welcome to this month’s column. As you are all aware I have sold Deli Lama which means I can concentrate on Montrose House full time, so you can say I am semi-retired and loving it. The first week of November I hosted a superb Melbourne Cup luncheon for 35 ladies. It was a wonderful day with beautiful outfits and a scrumptious lunch enjoyed by all. There was a fashion parade by Donna Mirto of ‘Frock On’ and the ladies then ventured to the Club to watch the big race and returned to the house for a High Tea to finish the day. Saturday 5th November was my Hamptons Party to celebrate my birthday and retirement from Deli Lama. 120 people attended from all over the district including English friends and people from Sydney, Orange and Canberra. There was lots of dancing, laughter and good catch ups. A sensational buffet dinner was served followed by a Mandy Townsend birthday cake creation, a great night had by all. This week I hosted a wedding rehearsal dinner for Chris Miller and Amanda Jasprizza who were married at the Curran’s property ‘Noojee Lea’ on Saturday. 25 friends and family enjoyed Montrose. The groom and groomsmen stayed overnight so after a big brekkie Saturday followed by golf I cooked them all lunch and got them dressed up for the wedding – ANOTHER service we provide. Finally, Sunday 13th I hosted a Christening Lunch for good mate Danielle Kinsela’s sons, Archie and Banjo in a blue themed room with lots of boy’s toys. It was a great group of good friends and family celebrating this wonderful milestone in the family’s life. Don’t forget to book in now for all your Christmas parties. We cater for cocktail parties through to sit down dinners or enjoy our lovely gardens and the gorgeous sunny weather and celebrate your Christmas party outside. The house is beautifully decorated to bring the Christmas cheer. Give me a call on 6344 1006. Take care, best wishes Tommy x

White Ribbon March
Canowindra will be hosting a White Ribbon March next Friday 25th November to show support for respected relationships and to condone or minimise violence. Gaskill Street will be closed to traffic for a short period during the march. The march will kick off at 2pm starting from the corner of Ryall Street, next to the Junction Hotel. It will then make its way down Gaskill Street to Memorial Park. White Ribbon Ambassador Barry Merrittt will be in attendance as well as some guest speakers calling for an end to the intimidation, emotional, financial, social and physical abuse of women and children in our community. The best way to counteract its influences is to educate children in respectful relationships in schools and involve our communities in this process. If we don’t talk about the harms and demonstrate zero tolerance for violence in our communities it can continue to flourish in the silence Family violence touches every culture, race and socio-economic level of society in Australia with 1 in 3 children under 15 either witnessing or are a victim of violence. Our community attitudes teach children what is and isn’t acceptable behaviours. Come take a community stand together against violence and march next Friday.

Cody Smith is excited for his upcoming adventure in Cambodia.
Cambodia Bound
Cody Smith, a Canowindra Year 12 High School student, will spend two weeks of his summer holidays volunteering as part of an organisation www.ProjectsAbroad. com in Cambodia helping a centre for special needs children in Phnom Phenh. One of Cody’s passions is Humanities. He is currently studying the Arts, Modern and Extension History and has spent holidays in Indo-China (Thailand, Laos and Cambodia) as well as Indonesia. Cody has been inspired by Asian society and the plight of the Cambodian people, especially the children, when visiting there in 2014. Earlier in the year the school sent out a flier from ProjectsAbroad to students in years 11 & 12 introducing a series of volunteer opportunities in various countries around the world; an opportunity he jumped at, an opportunity to `help out’ and

`make-a-difference’ for people less fortunate than ourselves. Cody’s volunteer experience commences on January 7th through to the 23rd and will be based in Phnom Phenh. He will be required to work with other high school students and young adults from around the world between the ages of 17 and 21. The volunteers will be required to engage and stimulate children through fun, creative and educational activities as well as songs, art and crafts and sport in a structured environment. Volunteers learn from their chosen placements and from the people they meet and vice versa. Mutual learning and mutual respect is what cultural exchange is all about and we wish Cody all the best on this adventure.

TENNIS
Six students from St Edwards in years 3 and 4 attended the inaugural Todd Woodbridge cup finals at Sydney Olympic Park, an initiative of Tennis Australia and Tennis NSW. The game is based on the ANZ Hotshots form of the game. A modified version, with smaller courts, a lower net and low compression balls that moves slower through the air and doesn’t bounce as high. The team from St Edwards came 12th out of 26 teams from NSW. Rebecca O’Dea, team manager said, “The kids had a great day and showed great sportsmanship.” Helen Garratt, Canowindra’s local Hotshots tennis coach was instrumental in coordinating the regions schools to enter into the competition at a local level, and progress to the finals competition at Olympic Park. Congratulations also go to the team from St Raphael’s Cowra who finished the finals ranked third in the State. The team of Poppy Starr, Grace Shepherd, Madeline Savage, Ky Garratt and Lucas McKenzie were strong competitors on the day.
