To The Editor, I would like to draw the attention of yourself and our local rural community to recent well respected scientific reports (Google - social media and the internet) linking people’s health and annual bee death in our Western world to the use of Agricultural chemicals, processed foods and many other manmade substances. Honey bees have become the ‘cannery in the coal mine’ for our industrial culture, repeatedly warning us of dangers we cannot see or sense for ourselves. The peak of annual bee death, for some years now corresponds to the peak flowering of Canola in our district and it is almost impossible to buy any commercially available agricultural crop or pasture seed that has not been coated with Agricultural chemicals, including systemic insecticides. Bee’s life, health and productivity are sensitive to anything artificial and bees are allergic to many manmade substances. People are too. In manmade habitat, the general health of people is in decline with many serious physical, mental, emotional, dietary, viral and neurological issues all now linked

to our use of artificial substances. Recent news articles report findings that manmade building and home making products make infrastructure too toxic and too flammable for people to live safely within. Also much is reported of the side effects of eating the processed food we buy, the depletion of immune systems and soil by fertilizer use and the pharmaceuticals we mass medicate ourselves and our animals with. As a contrast, in Nature made functional ecosystem environments honey bees are productive, healthy and calm as are the people who live with them. Evolution of mind is learning more and more about more and more, of Nature forever. Regards, Paul Newell

“Reflections” Officially Opened

On a glorious Spring evening last Friday night the “Reflections” Art Exhibition was officially opened by newly elected Cabonne Councillor Cheryl Newsom at Montrose House. Around 50 people gathered on the front lawn of Montrose House enjoying wine and canapes and then explored Montrose House and the many art works on display. The Canowindra Arts group was formed in 2016 as a voluntary not for profit group aimed at reviving and re-establishing Canowindra’s prominence as a regional arts centre as it had enjoyed in the past. This is the fourth major exhibition staged since the inception of the group and highlights works by 18 of the region’s best artists. Canowindra Arts Inc has achieved a lot since forming affording over 20 skilled artists in and around Canowindra to have a regular opportunity to display and sell their works and an opportunity to mentor and develop the artistic talents of Canowindra school children. One of the ongoing aims of the group is to establish a permanent arts and cultural centre in Canowindra after the old Hardware store where previous exhibitions were held was purchased and a new Foodworks Supermarket will be opening in the coming months.

The group would like to thank Tommy Jeffs for coming to the rescue and allowing the exhibition “Reflections” to be held at Montrose House until the 28th October 2017. Congratulations must go to the hard working committee especially Derek Maitland, Sue Hodge and Arthur Falconer who have worked tirelessly to pull this latest exhibition together at Montrose House. As Canowindra Arts Inc is a community based group it is totally dependent on volunteers. If you have time and would like to help the group please call 0408 416 034 or email info@canowindraarts.org.au

Orana House Update A well-attended meeting was held on 9 October with 22 local Canowindra residents, 3 Cabonne Councillors (Cheryl Newsom, Jamie Jones and Greg Treavors), and local Federal Member Andrew Gee, attending. The meeting passed the following 2 motions: 1. This meeting of Canowindra residents requests Cabonne Council to rescind its decision of 26 April 2017 regarding the sale of Orana House, on the basis that effective and proper community consultation was not carried out prior to this decision, and the decision was made without regard to due and proper process. 2. This meeting of Canowindra residents insists that Cabonne Council carry out effective consultation with users of Orana House and the Canowindra community before any decision be made about the selling of Orana House. The three Councillors in attendance indicated that Council would be re-considering its earlier decision to sell Orana House. Options for the future could include Council retaining ownership of Orana House as a "community use building", or some form of private ownership. The community will be kept informed on these matters, and the Orana House Trust Committee is now hoping to co-opt several new committee members to help with these negotiations. By Ross Cleary

Participants Invited To Economic Development Strategy Workshop

Coming together with All Saints’ College in 2019

Cabonne Council is inviting individuals and community groups to participate in a workshop next week to help develop a regional economic development strategy. As part of the $1.3 billion the NSW Government has allocated from the sale of “poles and wires” for infrastructure for the regions, Cabonne, Orange and Blayney Councils are working with NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet and their consultants AgEconPlus to develop a strategy for the future growth of the region. Deputy Premier John Barilaro said unlocking the potential of regional businesses to create jobs was an important part of the additional funding allocated to regional NSW. To ensure Cabonne Council and the Orange region secures funding for the most pressing infrastructure and business and job creation needs, Council is inviting residents and representatives of local organisations to attend a short “infrastructure priority setting” workshop between 10am and 12:30pm on Wednesday 25 October 2017 at the Molong Council Chambers. Places will be limited, so people interested in attending the workshop are asked to contact Cabonne Council’s Economic Development Manager Dale Jones before 5pm on Friday 20 October 2017 by calling 6392 3200 or emailing council@cabonne.nsw.gov.au

Cabonne Daroo Business Awards Cabonne has voted and finalists have been announced for the 2017 Cabonne Daroo Business Awards. The Cabonne Daroo Business Awards were established in 2000 to recognise and celebrate business throughout Cabonne Shire. Executive Officer of Business HQ Bruce Buchanan said that it has been so exciting to see the number of new businesses that commence each year within Cabonne Shire and how many existing businesses have continued to grow and flourish over that time “Doing business is not easy if it was everyone would be doing it. It takes hard work, long hours, dedication and commitment and the ability to handle uncertainty. Cabonne has seen its fair share of floods, fires and drought and yet each business owner has had the strength to work through these tough times” he said. “We are so thrilled to have so many nominations this year particularly in the ongoing business and Contribution to Cabonne Community Organisation sector,” Mr Buchanan said. “With over 2,143 votes being cast there are a number of categories where there is less than five votes between the winner and runner-up” Mr Buchanan said. Economic Development Manager for Cabonne Council Dale Jones said he was particularly thrilled that the new category “Excellence in Disability Inclusion” was so well supported for its first year as a category for the Awards. The Winners of the 2017 Cabonne Daroo awards will be announced in Yeoval at the Gala Awards Dinner on Friday 3rd November. Edwina Mitchell will once again be catering for this event. Tickets are available at $66 each and can be purchased by visiting the awards website www.daroobusinessawards.com.au

• Get three big boxes. Label each box: Keep, Sell and Charity. Set a time limit for the session. Set a timer and when it rings, make yourself stop, clean up, and take a break so you don’t burn out. Make three piles on the floor, to match each of the marked boxes. Later, you probably will change some of the items, or move them to another box. • Tackle one room at a time. In each room make three piles on the floor, matching the boxes. • Find a place for everything. Keep the things you need in a place where you will find it easily. Make sure everyone in the family is aware to return things after they use them. • Clean and vacuum the room. Look around and enjoy the neat and tidy area. Scrub off grime from surfaces, remove cobwebs and repaint if necessary. • Sort through the keep box, aiming to put more into the charity or sale boxes. The rule of thumb is if you have not used an item in a year or more, it goes! • Take the box for charity to your car. If it is too much, call a charity of your choice and ask them to pick it up. Sort through and price items for your garage sale. Try to arrange the garage sale as soon as possible, so you will not be tempted to return the items to your house. • Look around! No clutter, no mess, just a nice clean and nice looking house. Keep it that way on a daily basis. • Keep your living area and bedrooms clutter free by minimizing décor. This will not only look larger but cleaner. Having less décor means less to clean and dust. • Stop shopping! This is a tough one, but learning to not replace items that you have gotten rid of is an important one to follow. Also it is really important to shop well. It is easier to remember the items you spent more money on, and to treasure them above the cheaper things. • Set limits on things. Having eight cereals to choose from is not being realistic. Enjoy two to three items, then once finished, buy others. This will teach children to respect what they have and it will encourage a less-cluttered mindset. • Get used to having less. Once you declutter your environment, enjoy the space and the look of having less. Take up a hobby and distract yourself from items you probably do not need. (source: http://www.wikihow.com)

SESSIONS & TIMES SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE

Another Successful Year For Baroquefest

On Sunday the final events for the Baroquefest were held for this year. The dinner and Baroque Sonata was held at Rosnay on Sunday evening following on from The Limestone Consort and lunch at Wallington Winery held earlier in the day wrapped up the event for 2017. This year was the third year of the Baroquefest and it is the only music festival of its kind in NSW. Richard Statham, Chairman of Canowindra Fine Music Incorporated said, “ The Committee had been blown away by the response to the events, the accolades for the performing artists and the positive feedback from all who attended. This year saw visitors attending from further afield than previous years, including Canberra, Sydney and around NSW. This year we were lucky enough to enjoy the music from a number of accomplished musicians who travelled from afar to perform, some who had been here previously, and hopefully some who will return in the future.” The evening at Rosnay was enjoyed by

around 40 people, in what the Statham’s call the Shed and it was certainly enhanced by the artistic talents of Tommy Jeffs who not only decorated the venue, however also cooked the meal from lamb grown on the property. Accompanied by the Rosnay Wines, the music of Rafael Font-Viera on Violin and Anthony Abouhamad on Harpischord was enjoyed by all. In supporting Canowindra, Tommy Jeffs very generously donated dinner for 10 people at Montrose House, at a time of their choosing, and this was auctioned off under a silent auction. Amazingly, the top price of $2,500 was paid by a couple from Sydney who are regular visitors to Canowindra, with all proceeds going to Canowindra Fine Music. All feedback from around town of those who attended one or all of the events was fantastic and Canowindra Fine Music Incorporated is looking forward to starting to plan for next year.

MONTROSE House Hello readers welcome to this month’s column and what a crazy busy time October is, I haven’t stopped, the house has been full of visitors and the art exhibition is on now. Started my month with my last show as Tallulah in Gooloogong, full house and raised $9,000 and got a grant for the kitchen from the government for $1000,000 so they are absolutely thrilled. On Saturday 6th October friends of mine the Boyd’s from the Forbes Road had their daughter Courtney’s wedding. I spent 7 hours on Thursday and Friday decorating tables for them and it looked magnificent. The following week I had a bus group from Bathurst for a fabulous high tea and pre Melbourne Cup luncheon which they all enjoyed immensely with lots of prizes for sensational hats. On Friday 13th October I held a cocktail party for the launch of the Canowindra Arts “Reflections” Exhibition with almost 100 people enjoying the ambience, art and beautiful rooms at Montrose. Saturday 14th October, Marion Wilson OAM had an honorary luncheon from a group of former workmates to honour her award, organised by the wonderful Sue Jones – I did the room with navy and white with beautiful flowers, they all enjoyed themselves and we are all so very proud of our Marion. Sunday 15th October catered a fab dinner for the Baroquefest committee for 40 people at Rosnay with music played on violin and harpsichord. This was a wonderful evening hosted by Richard and Florence Statham and family Sam, Oli and Simone. As the sales for Baroquefest were down because of a concert on in orange I suggested to Richard that I donate a private dinner for 10 at Montrose House and via a silent auction it went for $2,500. Now girls get your dresses out as Tuesday 7th November is Melbourne Cup Day Luncheon “Pretty in Pink” there are only 10 tickets left on offer will be great food, bubbles, a fashion parade and wonderful fun for everyone.
