VIDEOSPREAD - HISTORY Céline Jouenne is the Directing Manager and founder of Videospread, a non-profit organisation based in Marseilles, France. Since 2006, Céline has been researching and developing the concept of production and circulation of silent video art programs dedicated to screening in public spaces. Taking advantage of the rapidly growing sector of urban displays, the programmes curated by Videospread question the capacity of Art having a direct impact on the general viewing public, which is usually confronted with advertising. Through this new approach of visual content, Videospread wishes to encourage and promote critical thinking, as well as challenge the way we look at moving images. Born in 1974 in Seoul, South Korea Céline studied in Toronto, Canada and in Paris, France. Graduated in 1998 with a Masters in Cultural Management, she has worked in Paris as freelance project manager for artists, museums, cultural programmers such as Acanthes Agency, Museum of Modern Art Grand Duc Jean in Luxemburg, Alliance Française in New Delhi, India and Suva, Fidji, Soft Pad in Kyoto, Japan. Her passion for Art and her collaborations with French and foreign galleries on international art fairs have contributed to her thorough understanding of the art market and bonding with artists and professionals from that field.

VIDEOSPREAD - CONCEPT Videospread distributes a collection of artist films and videos dedicated to screenings in public spaces. Its concept is based on a silent (mute) program, which puts forward the power of images through their visual attraction. The programmes question the capacity of Art having a direct impact on the perception and appropriation of an artistic content on the general public. Furthermore, Videospread wishes to develop a new market for Video Art. Videospread programs should not be considered like common television programs, but rather be regarded as a visual presence, a moving painting. The content of the programmes is silent, non-narrative and specifically conceived for television broadcasts and screenings in public spaces (in airports, shopping malls, the street, the underground, hotels…) The films are produced by artists from around the world and can be classified in different genres : 3D animations, experimental and conceptual films , ambient movies with strong esthetical criteria, all however, having the common denominators of being Art works. Videospread wishes to encourage and promote critical thinking, as well as challenge the way we look at moving images. Based in Marseilles, Videospread wishes to offer artists and organisations specialized in the promotion and exhibition of innovative art, film and video, new exhibition contexts. In order to do so and as part of Videospread’s screening and broadcasting activity at a national and international level, a selection of local, departmental and regional artists’ and structures’ work and activity are promoted.. Growing display networks - plasmas screens, LCD, LED – For the past few years, new types of displays have appeared in public space (shopping malls, airports, train stations, subway, grocery stores...), flat screens. Alike our good old television set, they allow the broadcast of moving images such as televion programs and advertising.. New visual experiences for the screens These highly populated places - street, malls, airports, public transports…- equiped with these displays usually broadcast ordinary television programs from which the sound has been cut off. A thourough reflexion on the contents screened on the various displays has not yet been undertaken. Videospread images As part of the content broadcasted on these displays, the insertion of creative and artistic images at regular time slots, alternately with advertising and information, could be positive and beneficial for the public/specatators, but also for the display owner. • It could favour visual attraction with regards to the global content broadcasted on the display, by adding undeniable artistic and cultural value, still poorly present to this day. • It could contribute to an introduction to contemporary creation to the general public. • It could enhances and improve the content and its displays, giving them surplus-value and differenciating them from the other display networks. 87, BLD TÉLLÈNE 13007 MARSEILLE - FR - T. +33 (0)6 64 66 11 07 - WWW.VIDEOSPREAD.COM

Challenging images for public space Each individual is confronted daily - voluntarily or not - to the growing exposure to visual information (at home, at work, in public places, during transports, in the street…). These images are usually of commercial and/or advertising nature, and rather poor in cultural and artistic content. To try and impose a new type of visual « standard » can be the beginning of a different relationship between us – spectators - and the images that we are fed, on a daily basis.
