Bringing Life to the City p3
WELCOME
Birmingham Vineyard is a Christian church made up of people from all walks of life, committed to living out the teachings of Jesus Christ in this city. If you’re looking for a church then we would love you to join us. p4
If you’re looking for a church or exploring the Christian faith, you’re very welcome at our church. If you are coming to a Sunday service for the first time we want to make your visit as enjoyable as possible by letting you know exactly what’s involved. Coffee, tea and fresh home-made cakes are served and if you have any children they can be signed into Discovery Zone from 9.20am, 11.05am or 5.20pm, depending on which service you are attending. We start with a time of worship which lasts for about 25 minutes. Songs are like prayers set to music and can help us express to God what’s in our hearts. The words will be on the screens so feel free to join in or just listen to the music. Mid-way through we take a short break for notices and information. A practical talk from the Bible will follow and there will be an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service. After the service please make your way over to the welcome area where you can chat to some of our team, ask any questions you might have and pick up helpful information. We also serve hot and cold refreshments and cakes from the catering area after each service. Communion is served at each service, once a month. If you are on a journey towards Jesus, you are very welcome to join in.

CELL COMMUNITIES On the 4th Sunday of the month we don’t have a Sunday service in Network House. Instead we spend the time building and extending community across our city. Our cell groups join together in different locations to host many expressions of local church. Check on the website to find out what is happening near you on the next Community Sunday.
Baptism SerVICES Date: Sunday 5 April 2015 Baptism is the way we tell our friends, family and God that we want to be committed to Him. These are great celebrations where we hear stories about changed lives. If you are thinking about being baptised please take a leaflet from the information wall or chat to one of the staff team.
DEDICATION SerVICES Date: Sunday 5 April 2015 Child dedications are times when we thank God for the wonderful gift of a new child and commit them into His care. Parents are undertaking to pray for their child and bring them up in the knowledge of Jesus until they are old enough to make their own decision to follow Christ.
BIG CHURCH Date: Sunday 22 March 2015 Venue: The REP Theatre, Centenary Square Twice a year we gather everyone from each of our three services together for a celebration of all that God is doing. This will be a fun, lively and exciting celebration of God’s goodness!

Exploring
FAITH Got questions about the Christian faith? If you or your friends have questions about faith, we would love to invite you to join us at our next Alpha course.
p8
Alpha is a series of interactive sessions exploring the meaning of life. It’s fun, relaxed and totally no pressure. Sometimes it’s easier not to ask questions but on Alpha we think life is worth exploring, so your questions are welcome, no matter how ‘out there’ they are. If you’ve got lots of meaningful questions or never really understood the Christian faith or been to church, then Alpha is for you. Alpha doesn’t care about your background, it welcomes all those big and small questions and it’s free.

How does it work?
During each of the 10 sessions there is a short talk, some delicious cake, drinks and a chat around your table. The talks are designed to encourage debate and explore the Christian faith in a friendly, honest and informal environment. Some of the topics include ‘Who is Jesus?’, ‘Why and how do I pray?’ and ‘How does God guide us?’ Alpha is a safe relaxed environment to ask questions and find some answers.

Come to a welcome meal Dates : 6 Feb, 6 Mar, 15 Apr, 8 May Andrew and Rosie and Simon and Keely regularly host a Welcome Dinner for anyone new to the church. This is a chance to meet them, hear their story and ask any questions over a relaxed meal. Fill in a form at the Welcome Area and we’ll be in touch soon with the details.
Join a cell group We’ve found that the best way to make new friends in a large church is through our cell groups. They meet around the city on different days and times and are simply places to journey life together as smaller communities within the church. Cells are places where you can meet with friends, a place of support and encouragement and a place to know people and be known yourself. For more information, visit our website or pick up a cell flyer from the information wall to find some groups to try.
Join a team Joining a team is a great way to get involved in the life of the church. From serving tea and coffee on Sunday and welcoming visitors, through to serving those in need through Foodbank or helping our children to get to know Jesus in Discovery Zone. Visit the information area and fill in your details on an iPad to sign up for a team.
GIVE We want to be generous people, providing the church with the resources to do things well, whilst also demonstrating God’s generosity outside this church in what we give away. We believe giving is a part of our worship and we would encourage you to give regularly. Your gifts will help us continue in our mission to reach and serve this city. There is an opportunity to give towards this church every Sunday or by visiting the website.

DISCOVERY ZONE
p12
Discovery Zone (DZ) is our exciting children’s ministry for those aged 0 to 11 years.
We believe that the children are a vital part of our church and therefore we want them to be actively involved in all that we do – worship, reading the Bible, prayer, ministry, serving, giving and sharing God’s heart for the poor and those that do not know Jesus. Discovery Zone is a fun and exciting place both for the children and the team! Our DZ team run children’s groups on Sunday mornings for children aged 0-11 and on Sunday evenings for those aged 4-11. These are high quality, fun, interactive sessions which help the children and the leaders get to know Jesus better and explore the amazing things He invites us to do.
zara@birminghamvineyard.com
We aim to lovingly disciple the children and pray that they will grow in their walk with Jesus – loving Him with all their hearts and following Him every day. If you are looking for a church and have children, then we would love them to join us. On Sundays the groups run throughout the service and every child is guaranteed a great time! Network Youth
p14
Our youth group is for those in Y7 through to Y13. Our mission is to see Jesus impact the lives of these young men and women and mould them to become more like Him.
Act justly, love mercy, walk humbly with our God
We have a passion for building up a youth who will worship God through the good times and the bad, who are excited about having a relationship with Jesus, who desire to study their Bibles, pray and see things happen, and who have a heart to reach out to the community in which they live.
Youth dates for the term
Our youth get together in different environments throughout the month‌.twice a month in youth cells on Sunday evenings, and twice a month on Friday evenings, either for youth club or for a lively Friday Night Live event with great worship.
Friday Night Live 7.30pm - 10pm
They have plenty of time to hang out, play games, learn more about Jesus and pray for one another. Lots of sweets and food are involved! They are serious about having lots of fun but also serious about following Jesus.

students We believe church should be fun and down to earth - the kind of place where anyone can feel at home. We love to hang out together, worship God together and serve our communities together. We think that following Jesus is all about making a difference in an otherwise crazy world and showing genuine love to those around us.
As a church, God has given us a heart for our communities and a heart for mission, therefore we exist in missional community groups across the city to build one another up and bring wholeness to broken lives through the power of the Gospel. We gather centrally on most Sundays to celebrate what God is doing across the city, however, on the 4th Sunday of the month we meet in our missional community groups to impact the community sharing Jesus’ love.
DATES Urban Camp: 23-24 Jan Friday Night Live: 13 Feb, 13 Mar, 17 Apr
We have a large group of students, and are committed to helping and discipling students that attend. We really want to invest in you while you are at university, help you grow and give you opportunities to step out into what God has planned for you. James@birminghamvineyard.com

BrinGing life to the City
We believe this is an exciting time for us as a church as we move forward into all that God has in store for us in the next season of church life
p18
Vision
God has called us to build a church in one of Europe’s youngest cities where the overwhelming majority of people are not following Jesus. Birmingham Vineyard is about bringing life to our city as we invite people to follow Him. Through our prayers and action we seek the peace and prosperity of the greater Birmingham area. We are called to be a large church with a pioneering local presence across our city through our expanding network of cells, communities and local services.
Culture
The church culture God is building is one of welcome and generosity. We are called to be confident and consistent in approaching God in prayer. That investment in God’s presence influences the future of our city. We’re an army not an audience, mobilised by the compassion that God has shown us in Jesus.
Impact
We see the impact God has in mind as four canvasses, ready for a masterpiece of God’s creating. In God’s hands, our lives bring the colour and details to the pictures that God is creating. What God wants to make visible through our lives is His concern for : Compassion and Justice Leaders and Nations
Work and City renewal relationships and family life
None of these canvasses are blank. Much is already visible but the picture needs to grow and develop to display God’s creativity and heart for transformation.
Compassion and Justice
Work and City renewal
We want to demonstrate mercy and bring freedom to the oppressed. Relief, restoration and reformation is the goal.
We are joining God in the renewal of all things, and through our work and civic engagement we can express God’s Kingdom.
Relationships life
Investing in leaders influencing nations
and
Family
We want to mend what’s broken and learn to do life well. We want to become a centre of excellence in the areas of family, marriage and life skills, with capacity to serve our city one life at a time.
and
We are called to raise pioneering leaders who will influence nations. Men and women, young and old who will lead in all sectors of society, not for personal gain but to serve God’s purposes. p19
CitY PASTORS
City Pastors is a project involving volunteers from local churches working together with the Broad Street and Southside districts of Birmingham to ensure everyone who visits the city on a Friday or Saturday night encounters a safe, vibrant environment.
You could sum up being a City Pastor as a “friendly face, a listening ear and a caring heart”. We operate around these core values:»»We provide a helpful, supportive and Christ-like presence on the street. »»We are an expression of a united church in the city of Birmingham. »»We work in partnership with existing services and agencies. »»We treat everyone we meet with care and respect. City Pastors provide an essential pastoral bridge between the street wardens, business owners, door staff, police, taxi marshals and the general public. We are there to help clubbers, diners, concert go-ers, homeless people, tourists and anyone else we encounter on the street. We also work with vulnerable or marginalised people providing a caring face and signposting support to other agencies. If you would like to get involved please speak to Simon Bateson or send an email to the address below.

Healing on the Streets
Every month a team of people go out onto the streets to show God’s love by praying for people who need healing. The Healing on the Streets (HOTS) team is led by Jackie Tearle and Sandra Eagle and can be found outside Birmingham Cathedral on the third Saturday in each month from 1.30pm - 4pm. Every month we have the joy and privilege of seeing Jesus meet with individuals who have been bought to us by God. We also get to witness God moving gently but powerfully every time we meet. Regular training opportunities are provided if you would like to get involved. We would love you to join us and see God at work on the streets.

Foodbank
Grab a bag Pick up a bag from church and take it home with you. Choose from the following - Asian, Caribbean, Meal, Instant, Breakfast, Toiletries or Baby Bag.
fill a bag Remove the shopping list on the front of the bag and use it as a guide when you shop. Please supply all the basic needs and maybe choose one “optional extra” item. This can be done individually or as part of a group.
give a bag Please return your filled bags to Network House where they will be checked and stored. The bags will then be distributed through our partner organisations and to individuals known to us at Birmingham Vineyard.
p22
Foodbank reaches out to serve those in need by providing a simple bag of food or toiletries. Bags are given to needy families and individuals by our partner organisations; Birmingham & Solihull Women’s Aid, Freshwinds, Gateway Family Services, South and City College, Handsworth and Ladywood Children’s Centres. Filling a Foodbank bag is a simple way to show God’s love and care. A Family Support Worker gave Foodbank bags to her client. She said “I am currently working with an 8 year old girl and her single mother who has recently injured her lower arm and hand. The injury required surgery which meant the mother was signed off work. This led to some financial difficulties and the mother requested some support. We have been able to provide 4 Foodbank bags over the last three weeks and she has been overwhelmed by the generosity and support that Foodbank offers.” Foodbank is making a real difference to people in need across our city.
donation box If you would like to donate money for a Foodbank bag to be filled on your behalf then please place your money in a Foodbank envelope and post it in the donation box by the Foodbank tables at the back of church. Each Foodbank bag costs around £5 to fill. Our Foodbank co-ordinator will gladly fill a bag on your behalf.

SOZO
Our church has always been passionate about helping people on their journey towards wholeness. We want people to have lifetransforming experiences that help them know more of God’s love and enable them to live life to the full, in healthy relationship with God and with one another. A Sozo appointment facilitates a time of listening and responding to God, aiming to get to the root of problems and issues that may hinder our relationship with Him and others. If you would like to book a Sozo appointment with one of our team, then please pick up our application pack from the information wall.
