CIVLAB Radio Show
pirate broadcast Unlike
any other radio booth we all
know, with fully high-tech machines, air-
conditioned room, noise proof, U-shaped and a room which separates the DJ from all other staff; the CIVLAB radio show 107.9 FM is a way different. The set-up of this radio show is very simple – a table on the center, there’s no DJ booth as well as condensed microphones and filters to make sound output clearer when already heard over the radio. I was then amazed on how did they make the show a successful one for three days. As a communication student, we all know that it is really hard to run a radio show
if
we
don’t
have
high-tech
equipment and facilities. We just need to be resourceful and must have a technical
know-how to make it possible.

A consul that was used to regulate the sound and the audio connecting to the signal that will
reach our radio sets. This consul is used in adjusting the volume of the microphone as well as the music which can be faded in, faded out and even fades under. Frankly speaking, it is quite hard to use but exciting.
Believe it or not a camera which doesn’t have a view finder is also used. This can monitor the action taking place during the airing of the show. how

a radio show is heard on air, of
course it must pass through the pre-
production phase wherein equipment are set

the

needs
to
familiarize himself on the spiel from a script for the smooth flow of the program.
Seeing the people behind the production made us think on how long did they prepared for such. Everything’s really possible if you’re pursuing same goals that you want to share with other people not even bothering on whether they will accept it or neglect it. -

Day 1
Mr. Bass Umali tackled the autonomous disaster response of Post-Yolanda crisis which is the immediate reaction in delivering or providing services directly to those affected of the huge devastation of natural catastrophe. The storm surge of Yolanda was due to climate change from global warning and large deposits of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. The initiative of anarchist school gives solidarity to the people of Leyte which has been the most affected area. “Looting is not an issue, just an effect of loss of preparation of the responsible institution since the focus of the support from government particulars on the basic needs.” They prepared more on solar which they gave 300watts solar panel, 2 batteries, 30 amp solar control charger, 2 3sm battery that provides free electricity. They choose Brgy. Libtong for they have didn’t experience difficulty on establishing contact to the community. There’s a trouble in disseminating information on marginalized community. “It’s way difficult to relate a topic to others, if they are not the victims of such.” The topic on climate change is more academe thus; it’s a challenge for advocates on how they will relate the subject to ordinary people. There’s no opportunity to know the problem and was being alienated in the comm 6

Day 3
Marinduque
is known for Lenten rights during Holy week – Moriones Festival and Marcopper Mining. The Post-Apocalypse of the mining was seen after two rivers of the province were dead – Mogpog River on December 1993 and Boac River, March 1996 which leave a tremendous disaster. Afterwards, the economics of the province also collapsed. Marinduque never let the disaster lose their hope hence; it challenged them to rise again. Mr. Randy T. Nobleza tackled the issue – Post Apocalypse. Mogpog River was destroyed due to the tailing from the mining and 3 years after, the Boac tunnel was also destroyed which caused floods. 30 years later the perilous disaster was then
forgotten but up to now, the effect of the mining is still has an effect to people. No one did take responsibility on the mining. The mining in the province got moratorium.”Ang Marindukanon, ‘di mo na kelangan pagsabihan, kusang kumikilos na lang.” As a member of IndieMedia Marinduque, Mr. Randy explained its role.

The best part on this radio show is that aside from the recorded songs being played during their breaks, there’s also a live song performance. The songs being played live
are songs focusing on social issues which deliver a very important message to its listeners. These are songs that we don’t often hear thus; we must patronize it. Also, we can hear it very live because of the sounds on its background. All in all the CIVLAB radio show is a very successful.
