The LEAD students had the freedom to choose the group and the place where they want to be assigned. Each student was required to have 54 hours of duty equivalent 5 hours per day which starts from 6:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. their books. They also spend half of their allowances just to browse their Facebook account.

Nowadays technology is becoming more catchy with the fastest stream of information that is why the youths are very updated in social networking such as Facebook, Friendster, Twitter, Multiply and other social networking sites. Gadgets are rapidly growing to the markets and become the demand of interest of youths that encourages them to buy it to connect to the modern world. Today, universities and colleges, malls, coffee shops, restaurants, and even other places have Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) connection giving an easy internet access for free. These changes are called innovation. Facebook is very much in demand today. It is one of the largest social networking sites in the internet. I‟m Pretty sure that this is one of

today. It helps us to connect with our friends all over the world. Teenagers are very much fond of uploading their pictures in Facebook. There are also games and application in this large social networking site. But this modern technology has also disadvantages to the modern world. It affects the interest of students to their studies. Health is also affected because of frequent engaging in this kind of social networking site. They focus much to Facebook instead of paying attention to their lessons and their books. Even elementary pupils are very fond of this social networking site. They pay more attention in surfing the internet and opening their e-mail account in Facebook rather than reading

Sad to say, students and pupils are very much affected of browsing this site. They use their free time going to Internet Cafés instead of going to the library and read some books there. They are more excited to open messages and to confirm some friends requests in Facebook than to explore books, dropping everything and read. Books are becoming less important in their lives and seldom students are seen spending more time for books. Wide readers are also very rare to find. We are calling the attention of all parents to encourage their children to spend their free time to read books, dictionary, and encyclopedia. They should guide their children in their studies to obtain high grades and have better future. It is not bad to have a Facebook account and other browsing site as long as students manage to have proper time to use it. They should not give their full attention for it but instead, give importance to books. Remember that books are our first source of information before Internet‟s existence. Why should we spent half of our

Allowances and make most of time with sites if we can use and read books freely and unlimitedly. Gelaine Verde and Honeylou Manao

DYNAMIX, over the humps and out of their shells! by: Rochelle Pornela and Jofel Joyce Lancion

AB Communication III students successfully presented, their variety show entitled “DYNAMIX” last October 15, 2010 at MSC covered court from 8pm up to 11pm. The variety show served as their “final examinationperformance” requirement in their subject Broadcasting Principles and Practices under Ms. Anna Roffel Ornedo. The title “DYNAMIX” was coined from the words “dynamic” and “mix” wherein this 4-hour variety show amazed the audience with their mixed, energetic and captivating performances all

in one show inspired by the ASAP style. It also included their application of all principles and discussions regarding the stages of production from “the making process” or “pre-production stage”, the production itself and “postproduction stage”.

It took them long hours of preparation and despite conflicts during the shooting day, they still managed to surprise the audience and give their best performances that night. There were dance numbers among selected dance groups and live-solo as well as by-duet performances.

The show in which the students‟ grades will not only be based on their presentation but will also depend on the compact disc (CD) rendition they have submitted to Miss Ornedo. The video version of the show should comprise the application camera movements, angles and shots, lightings, editing techniques, photography skills and projection on the camera of the performers. The success of this variety show was behind their responsible Director – Mildred Moreno and Marvin Ypanto as well as the cooperation of all AB Communication III students. Congratulation Keep it up!

SHUT UP CHEETAH, NO MORE MONKEY BUSINESS... by: Almira Motol One of the views usually seen whenever one passes by the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) department is the BS Entrepreneurship Incubation Room which sells variety of foods which include biscuits, curls, candies, drinks and the best seller, ice candy with fruit salad flavor at an affordable price of Php5/each. This home-made ice candy is ordered from Ms. Aileen Mejico, 1st year irregular BS Entrepreneurship student. This consignment is being managed by the Young Entrepreneurship Society (YES) President Mary Rose Rabi and the 3rd year students from the BS Entrepreneurship are the ones working without compensation but only experience gained. They have started this as a consignment with Magturo Grocery in Boac, Marinduque with the help of Mr. Diomenes Montaron with a capital of Php1, 500.00 from their

investment fee. The said investment fee is paid by every Entrepreneurship student from 1st year to 4th year which amounts to Php100.00 together with the ARTSSO fee also Php100.00, a total of Php200.00 during enrollment for every semester. The investment fee is originally meant to put up a food cart but the capital was not enough so they planned to put up a consignment in the BS ENTREPRENEURSHIP INCUBATION ROOM before the intramurals held last August 23 – 27, 2010 and had an income of Php800.00. Their usual income ranges from Php200.00 – 300.00, having Php128.00 as the smallest and Php406.00 as their biggest income in a day. They have been operating for almost two months now and realized good profit.

In running this kind of business, the whole YES society would benefit from this because they are using the income earned for the snacks every meeting in their Society‟s Activity monthly and also for their educational tour in February next year which will surely help lessen their expenses. Most importantly, Entrepreneur students who are selling will benefit the most: they will be able to learn the know- how of running busi-

ness, how much capital is needed for a certain type of business; to invest properly on a business. If there is a profit in the business managed, they have to know the kind of business which is indemand by the consumers; and the right attitude towards consumers. In short, this serves as their training ground on how to be future Entrepreneurs.

REVOLT

BAKASYON O TENSYON?

REVIEW)

ROSE

by: Jeleine Faminiano

LEAÑO

Every country does not avoid war. Some people put up revolution against their government craving for their rights. However, when some of these people are busy fighting, others prefer to stay inside their houses and ignore the happenings outside. They pretend as if nothing is going on. Most of the people who join the revolt are the adult ones. They‟re busy about the issues outside they forget their children‟s basic needs and guidance . The idea basically comes from the concept of the story “The Dreamers” where the story circulates around the three film fanatics who are Isabel and Theo the twins and Matthew, the American student. The setting of the story is in Paris where Revolution exists. The three main characters Isabel, Theo and Matthew are the examples of the young individuals who are very much independent. They live in a free world where their parents don not exist. The only responsibility of their parents is to assist their financial needs. They do not care how their children live or what kind of living they are into as long as they give them money for financial assistance, it‟s enough. This is quite different from the other country, the Philippines in particular. The parents in the Philippines mandate their children. They guide them in what is the right thing to do, the right acts, right decisions, etc. they even tell them what to do and direct them to do it. While in the situation being told in the story, the parents play their role as financer. The characters of the three were so much of being film fanatics that due to curiosity they tend to imitate what they have watched. Due to curiosity, a young adult craves for information and if there is lack of guidance among parents they explore the things he wants to know all by himself. Basically, he tries to discover all these things. In the story, Isabel, Theo and Matthew are so unaware of the things that happen outside them. They do not come out of their shells; instead they prefer to stay inside it. Their world revolves only among the three of them and inside their house. They try the unusual thingsl to them and apply them among themselves. Later on, they realized coming out from their shells, they joined the revolt in the end. I am somehow not satisfied with the ending of the story. There are some issues that are not clear enough but deep within the story, there lie the different ideas about how people react on revolution, the difference of their culture, the parent to children situation and the life of the young individuals being independent. Actually, the story may serve as an eye-opener among every individual. It just depends on how they would react on the film and what they think about it.

“Break a leg” Nexus players for PASUC Olympics by: Rochelle Pornela and Lileth Casicas

Nexus players are included in the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) Olympics set on January 2011 in Romblon. The Marinduque State College (MSC) regularly joins this Olympics. It is the first time of the college to have an entry in the Softball event in the said Olympics. The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) has competent students in the field of sports. Some of them are Chrisly Jinao and Neriza Rioflorido both softball players. They showed an amazing performance during the RAHEI (Regional Association of Higher Education Institute) 2010 in MSC. Jinao is a third year BS-Entrepreneurship student while Rioflorido is a second year BS-Law Enforcement Administration student. The MSC Softball Women‟s Team is practicing under the supervision of their coach Mr. Jigger Landoy.

The team hopes for the gold not just for the honor but also for a scholarship that awaits them. Johanna Eunice Maling, third year BS Law Enforcement Administration student, for the last two years of being PASUC volleyball player she quoted, “I enjoyed being in the PASUC Olympics even though I‟m nervous during my games. Being part of the PASUC Olympics, we can prove that we can go along with other State Universities and Colleges.” Last year, Maling got Bronze in RAHEI (Regional Association of Higher Education Institute) Mimaropa. Having that rank last year, she received half tuition fee grant from the college. This scholarship is good for one year. This year, she‟s again a PASUC Olympic player aiming for gold that would be equivalent to full scholarship. She is not the only one who aims for gold but also their fullsupport coach Mr. Rustico Nombrefia.

Aside from Softball women, Volleyball women, Taekwando Men and Women divisions have been represented by SAS students. Karin An de Villena and Grace P. San Juan, both third year LEAD students are three-time (PASUC) Taekwando representative in PASUC Olympics. San Juan is the over-all champion in featherweight/ flyweight Women‟s division while de Villena is in Bantamweight division here in MSC. San Juan last year ranked third in PASUC Olympics. This bronze awardee smiled and said, “I‟m proud of being the school‟s repsa-

resentative that‟s why I‟m giving my full effort to win.” As of now, they are practicing hard with the help of their coach Mr. Jeffrey Barranda. The college supports the players like snack or lunch and an allowance of Php200.00 per player during the Olympics. The MSC Team has been practicing hard since October 15, 2010. Break a leg means “good luck” so, go SAS students, win for MSC! For comments and suggestions e-mail us: n_nexus@ymail.com

AB-English II, ABCommunication II, BSEntrepreneurship II and BSMidwifery II held their very own Tournament at the MSC Covered Court last October 19, 2010. Instead of a written final examination, Mrs. Lantita and her students preferred and decided to have a tournament of all the games or sports played through out the first semester.

The events played were relay, 100 m sprint, long jump, shot put, discuss throw and javelin throw. All were track and field and throwing events. The tournament started with a 15-minute warm up exercises led by their PE instructor, Mrs. Lantita. Track and field events were played first before the throwing events. All the students gave their best shot not only for completion‟s sake but also

because every ranking place has an equivalent mark. For the first place – 1.3, second place – 1.4 and third place – 1.6.

All four teams almost finished the tournament. Next year‟s final examination for PE class may also be in this kind of arrangement.
