Places Programs

Gifts to the SAS Annual Fund make a difference in the quality and reach of an SAS education, funding the people, programs, and places that make a student’s experience truly exceptional. Your gifts are used in every division to fund programs that would not be possible without donor generosity. This year’s Annual Fund priorities are: • Nurturing the talent and passions of our people - our students and our faculty. Donations enhance learning support and professional development. • Expanding programs that develop our students’ broad, global perspective; gifts to programs expand service learning, clubs and athletics, speakers’ series with past speakers like Michael Thompson and Robyn Treyvaud, and student scholarships for experiences. • Updating places on campus that provide for a life-changing learning environment. This year, we are focused on the SAS rainforest, the Riady Performing Arts Center remodel, elementary playgrounds and athletic equipment for a future APEx site. Your gifts are important to SAS. Thank you for your generosity. Ray Zage Chair SAS Foundation

Georgina Bach Co-Chair Eagle Gala Committee

Maria Luedeke Co-Chair Eagle Gala Committee

Message from the Superintendent Good evening, It is an honor to welcome everyone to the 2015 SAS Eagle Gala. Thank you for joining us tonight and for your support of the SAS Annual Fund through your participation. Your attendance this evening is important to the SAS community. It illustrates your commitment to our school through the SAS Annual Fund, which in turn provides continuing support for service learning programs, support services, continuing education for our outstanding faculty, scholarships for experiences, as well as materials and supplies for academics, arts, athletics, and activities. Your contributions support programming that has direct impact on each child’s experience at SAS. Please join me in thanking our co-chairs Georgina Bach and Maria Luedeke, and the Eagle Gala committee for the countless hours they have given. Tonight would not be a success without their collective efforts. I would also like to recognize Marina Bay Sands, who has graciously donated this great space, their staff’s time, and the delicious meal tonight. We are deeply grateful for their sponsorship this evening. Thank you again for your generous contributions. We are looking forward to an amazing night! Thank you, Dr. Chip Kimball

Maldives Magic at Como Maalifushi

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work in the Foreign Service? THE MALDIVES BY COMO

is about being the only footprint in the sand Maalifushi by COMO is the first luxury resort in the Maldives to open in the pristine Thaa Atoll in the archipelago’s southwest – a new destination with overwater villas, garden suites, and spectacular Japanese, Thai and healthful COMO Shambhala cooking. This is the ultimate private island experience where you will want for nothing and discover everything, from snorkelling off a string of nearby uninhabited islands, to surfing some of the Maldives’ best breaks. Let us nurture and inspire you at our COMO Shambhala Retreat, with massage and yoga, or on diving trips among coral gardens lit up by shafts of sunshine. Here in these turquoise waters, where the sand is white like snow, there’s only nature to disturb your quiet: birdsong in the trees, or the call of dolphin as they dance in front of the bow.

RAINFOREST

Lucky Draw

The SAS

Rainforest Our Living Laboratory

SAS is unique among international schools to house a rainforest on its campus. THE NEED Our 1.58-acre rainforest has been a resource for project-based learning in all divisions since the campus was developed in the mid-1990s. Few in our community are aware that this valuable resource of native biodiversity exists. Today the SAS rainforest is under stress, both by manmade forces (construction) and by natural forces (climate change). A strong conservation plan is needed to help preserve this living laboratory. THE PLAN Recommendations are organized into three major categories, with a total cost scoped at approximately $600,000. The plan has three primary goals for the funding: 1. Restore and protect the current rainforest 2. Create an endemic forest tree nursery 3. Create education, research, and teaching opportunities as well as partnerships with leading biodiversity centers A comprehensive study and plan can be found on our website at www.sas.edu.sg/annualgiving THE IMPACT The rainforest project will make SAS a model for conservation education where our students learn about tropical Southeast Asian natural heritage in an authentic context to appreciate larger societal issues around biodiversity, forestry, and sustainability. The project has created and will continue to enhance our relationship with Singapore Botanic Gardens, Yale-NUS, and the National Biodiversity Center.

Special Lucky Draw for the SAS Rainforest How it works The Annual Fund supports the PEOPLE, PROGRAMS and PLACES that make SAS extraordinary. One of the PLACES that the Annual Fund will support this year is the SAS rainforest and tonight, just before the second live auction segment, there will be a special lucky draw fundraiser for this important space on our campus. When the rainforest screens appear, there will be three categories for donors to give gifts of $1,000, $5,000, or $10,000 designated for the SAS rainforest. Only 10 donors can fill each category so this will go fast. When your donation appears on the big screen, you will have one special lucky draw for each $1,000 donation. If you make a donation of $10,000, you get 10 entries. If you make a donation of $5,000, you will get five entries. If you prefer, you can make a donation for any amount using the pledge form on your table. Only gifts of $1,000 and greater will be entered into the lucky draw. Our student ushers will be coming by to collect the envelopes and the lucky draw winner will be announced after the second live auction segment.
