We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our donor community for their invaluable support during the 2023–24 school year at Singapore American School. Your collective generosity has significantly contributed to the success of philanthropy at our institution. This year, almost 1,200, including current and former parents, teachers, and alumni, came together in support of our school. We had 19 percent of our parents and 33 percent of our dedicated educators contribute to SAS through the annual giving program.

The Robotics program at Singapore American School (SAS) has rapidly evolved into a thriving and inclusive environment, benefiting over 250 students this past school year. By centering the curriculum around the Sustainable Development Goals, the program allows students to explore mechanical engineering and coding through open-ended projects that develop critical skills for future endeavors. Your generous support has propelled our competitive robotics program to new heights, with two teams representing SAS and Singapore at the VEX Worlds Robotics Competition in Dallas, Texas. Our talented rookie teams showcased their dedication and prowess, with one team finishing impressively in the top 50% of their division, competing alongside the world championship winners.
The Robotics program also promotes gender diversity, with 38 percent of elective robotics students identifying as female. This inclusive environment encourages young women to pursue interests in STEM fields while fostering a supportive atmosphere for all students. Your contributions have ensured an exceptional 2.5 students-to-1 robot ratio, providing ample opportunities for hands-on learning experiences with cutting-edge equipment. As a result, our students actively engage in the program, nurturing their growth in mechanical engineering and coding. The personal stories of our robotics students serve as powerful testaments to the life-changing impact of this program, igniting new dreams and ambitions. Your continued support will empower more students to explore their passions and reach new heights in the exciting world of robotics.
The Author/Artist-in-Residence program introduces our students, from PK-12, to the enriching experience of interacting with renowned artists from various disciplines. These internationally acclaimed authors, illustrators, musicians, playwrights, visual artists, and professionals engage with our students, nurturing their creativity and broadening their perspectives. The program's far-reaching impact enhances our students' education by providing diverse cultural and artistic exposure that transcends traditional boundaries. Highlights include a theater presentation by Kate Messner for Kindergarten to Grade 5 students, a writing workshop led by Ruta Sepetys for Grade 7, and an after-school session for High School and Grade 8 students. In total, more than 1,650 students engaged in hands-on learning experiences with artists in residence.
Furthermore, our partnership with the ES Music team has integrated engaging, culturally responsive practices into our music curriculum, fostering a love for music among K-5 students. By infusing SEL and DEI principles, students gain a deep appreciation for music's power while embracing choice, creativity, and movement. Overall, the Author/Artist-in-Residence program's impact is far-reaching, providing invaluable opportunities for students to interact with professionals, develop their skills, and cultivate a lifelong love for the arts.

Working on Wellness (WOW)
The Working on Wellness (WOW) program at Singapore American School (SAS) has had a profound impact on our educators' well-being, thanks to your generous support. The program offers a diverse range of activities that address physical, mental, financial, and cultural well-being, enriching the lives of educators and fostering a culture of wellness in our community. With your contributions, our educators have enjoyed experiences such as interactions with the cast of Hamilton, dance, Zumba, and Pilates classes on campus, as well as meditation sessions and financial literacy workshops. These initiatives have created a supportive environment for our dedicated staff, making SAS a highly desirable place of employment.
The WOW program's success is reflected in annual employee engagement surveys, where it consistently ranks among the top dimensions. With nearly 1,000 unique wellness experiences provided to educators, the program is key to promoting staff well-being and satisfaction. WOW exemplifies SAS's commitment to employee wellness, setting the school apart as a coveted place to work. Its success has led SAS to share expertise and insights with other institutions seeking to establish similar programs, further solidifying WOW's status as a model initiative.
Classroom
Without Walls (CWW)
The Classroom Without Walls (CWW) program extends middle school learning beyond traditional classroom settings by offering unique challenges and experiences that build positive relationships, trust, and cooperation among students and teachers. Thanks to your support, 636 students and 81 faculty members participated in educational trips to Indonesia and Malaysia during the 2023-2024 program. Early funding secured accommodations at three locations in Malaysia and in Indonesia, providing costeffective lodging and optimal rooming arrangements to ensure participant safety and comfort.
The CWW program has profoundly impacted students by fostering personal growth, joy, adventure, and a deep sense of belonging through well-planned activities. For many, it was their first experience away from home, presenting new challenges and opportunities for growth. Students developed resilience, independence, and strong interpersonal connections by practicing social-emotional skills in a new environment. Your support has made these transformative experiences possible, equipping young people with essential life skills and lasting memories.

Quest Program Chinese Immersion
Thanks to your generosity, our students participated in an enriching international Retreat Trip to Sedili, Malaysia, through the Quest program. This opportunity allowed 32 students and 4 sponsors to build a strong sense of community while engaging in meaningful self-reflection and personal development. Your support enabled valuable cross-cultural learning experiences and helped students understand the importance of personal growth. Additionally, your contribution established the Launch Trip Scholarship, providing financial assistance to three students in need and advancing our goal of making the Quest Program accessible to all SAS students and families, regardless of financial circumstances.
Your support funded ten Student-Designed Study (SDS) research projects, covering essential expenses like lab fees for DNA extraction and participant costs for qualitative studies. This enabled students to explore their research interests, gain hands-on experience, and develop critical thinking and problemsolving skills essential for future academic and professional success. You also facilitated professional development opportunities for Quest advisors, allowing them to attend a summer teacher course that prepares them to pilot new curricula and enhance our program. Your generosity drives program growth, fosters educational excellence, and ensures that all students benefit from our transformative experiences and opportunities.
Your support has significantly enhanced our Chinese Immersion program, offering storytelling workshops and three immersive elective courses that foster linguistic, cultural, and global citizenship skills. These initiatives have impacted over 290 students, 75 parents, and 60 educators, providing opportunities to develop language proficiency, explore diverse art forms, and deepen cultural understanding. Your generosity has nurtured a love for the Chinese language and culture within our community, empowering students, parents, and educators with valuable skills for their educational journey.
Your contributions to the Elementary Chinese Immersion Library have strengthened our commitment to culturally responsive and bilingual education. With access to curated Chinese resources and stateof-the-art technology, our students can engage in immersive learning experiences, fostering a passion for bilingualism and nurturing global citizenship. Your support has enriched the lives of hundreds of students, ensuring they are well-prepared to make a positive impact on the world.

Athletics
The Athletics Program plays a crucial role in supporting co-curricular opportunities for students, encompassing general clubs, service clubs, arts activities, and three athletic seasons. The funding provided has been essential in supplying uniforms, equipment, adjudicators, referees, and medical support for events, ensuring a holistic educational experience where students can explore passions, build relationships, and acquire transferable skills. With 85-90% of students participating in sports, arts, clubs, or activities, this support has been instrumental in securing high-quality New Balance uniforms for eight teams and facilitating five IASAS events.
Generous donations have also made it possible to host popular initiatives like the Marathon Club for 3rd-5th graders, where nearly 600 students achieved the marathon distance, earning commemorative shirts. Additionally, funding has enhanced events such as the "End of Year Eagle Days," where 1,800 elementary students engage in exciting activities like water slides and bouncy castles. Contributions have supported student clubs, including the Grade 5 Leadership Club and gardening and cricket clubs, fostering leadership, skill-building, and personal growth. The Foundation funds have allowed for equipment upgrades, such as volleyball uniforms, badminton and tennis gear, and referee fees, and supported the annual Hoopmania basketball tournament and Model United Nations conference. Moreover, the introduction of the Season Celebration for MS Athletics, recognizing athletes' achievements and providing Eagle Way awards, was made possible by these donations, highlighting their lasting impact on students' educational and personal development.
The Professional Learning Specialist for Instructional Assistants has successfully developed and implemented a comprehensive professional development program aligned with the school's strategic goals. This role collaborates with stakeholders to create, manage, and evaluate training experiences for Instructional Assistants (IAs), equipping them with the skills and strategies to improve student learning outcomes. Over 160 IAs participated in Restorative Practices training, focusing on positive relationshipbuilding and fostering inclusive environments. Additionally, targeted professional development opportunities for Middle School and High School IAs provided specialized knowledge and strategies to enhance classroom support and student success. Overall, these initiatives significantly impacted students and staff across all levels, promoting collaboration, inclusivity, and academic achievement.

EAGLE DANCE Eagle Club Swimming
The Eagle Dance Program at Singapore American School (SAS) provides an exceptional opportunity for students from Kindergarten to Grade 9 to explore and develop a passion for various dance styles under the guidance of professional teachers. Supported by generous donors, the program offers exposure to a diverse range of dance forms, including K-pop, jazz, lyrical, and hip hop, promoting both physical fitness and artistic expression. The program has grown remarkably, engaging over 165 students compared to 116 the previous year. With expanded offerings into high school, the program enables older students to further hone their skills, as demonstrated by their participation in their first competition in Singapore.
Donations offset instructor fees, ensuring the program remains accessible and affordable for all families, fostering a diverse and vibrant community. Students have shown significant improvement in physical skills like coordination and flexibility, highlighting the program's transformative impact on artistic growth and overall well-being. Additionally, the program has facilitated meaningful friendships and a strong sense of community among students, underscoring dance's profound social impact. Your contributions have also allowed students to collaborate with professional choreographers, stage two spectacular shows, and capture these moments through a professional photographer, enriching the educational experience and preserving the program's legacy. Further investments, like acquiring a reformer for strength training, demonstrate a commitment to the long-term success and health of our dancers.
Thanks to the generous support of donors, Eagle Club Swimming at Singapore American School (SAS) hosted two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Penny Heynes for an inspirational series of events in November. Penny's visit had a profound impact on students, coaches, and parents, as she shared her journey of overcoming adversity and building mental toughness through assemblies and talks. Her work with the Varsity team and club program sessions provided student-athletes with valuable strategies for success. A highlight of Penny's visit was a four-day training camp focused on stroke development and sports psychology, benefiting 45 SAS students and enhancing the skills and knowledge of five coaches. Penny also conducted a parent Q&A, offering guidance on supporting student-athletes at home. Her "golden thread philosophy," emphasizing maximizing potential and using one's talents, continues to inspire students and invigorate the swimming program under new leadership. Your contributions made this transformative experience possible, allowing a world-class athlete to share her knowledge and passion with the SAS community.

SpaceLab Program
Your contributions to the SpaceLab Program have significantly impacted students passionate about space exploration and research. Students have access to valuable resources and expert mentorship, enabling groundbreaking experiments and fostering essential life skills. Through collaborations with professionals and real-world applications, your support empowers students to become future leaders and innovators in the field while contributing to the advancement of space research and sustainable solutions for space exploration.
Your support for the Best Foot Forward fund promotes inclusivity by assisting financially disadvantaged students in athletics and activity trips. This initiative ensures equal opportunities, benefiting programs like IASAS and fostering a more equitable community. By enabling talented students to participate in trips and events, the fund has impacted seven students this year, covering expenses for IASAS/Exchange, service trips, Robotics, and National History Day events. Your contributions empower students who would have otherwise missed out, providing valuable experiences and demonstrating our commitment to inclusivity and equity.

PHILANTHROPY AT SINGAPORE AMERICAN SCHOOL
Throughout our school's history, philanthropy has played a vital role in shaping the success and growth of SAS. The initial generosity of parents and organizations, who collectively raised $100,000, enabled SAS to open its doors as a nonprofit with 98 students in our original schoolhouse at 15 Rochalie Drive. The vision and kindness of those early donors laid the groundwork for the success we have enjoyed and built upon over the past 68 years.
TRANSFORMATIONAL GIFT
One significant example of this ongoing generosity is the S$20 million gift SAS received in the 2023-24 school year from current parents, Elaine and Eduardo Saverin. This remarkable contribution, the largest in our school's history, will have a lasting impact on our students and the enture community. We are immensely thankful to the Saverins for their kindness and the opportunities this gift has and will provide for our students.
The Saverin family's gift supports various initiatives, including world-class play spaces, cuttingedge STEM labs, best-in-class environmental sustainability features, and smart building technology in our new elementary school. Additionally, it contributes to the ongoing development of the Chinese Immersion program, professional development for educators, sustainability initiatives, and other strategic priorities as determined in the coming years.
