Editor’s Note If this (referring to the magazine) was release as planned, which clearly wasn’t, I would be starting off this note with the most cliché statement, “Love is in the air...” Thank god, I don’t have to do that. I’m anti-festive this year (or so I say), the rest of the team however, well, I’m sure they found Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day quite enjoyable. Since the last release of SauceINK, we’ve noticed the extensive amount of fashion show coverage and the lack of editorial content. Therefore, this issue, changing the formula slightly, more articles from good ol’ editorial team and your renowned bloggers, and less fashion show spreads (mainly cause there weren’t many to begin with-good ones that is). But enough of the chitchat about what can or cannot be found in this issue. Just browse the pages and find out yourself! Now for more important matters... So what am I going to rant about this time round? Let’s talk about outfits and what not. If you’ve been following our website, our dear writer Jessica picked up a piece from My Fat Pocket (yes, I’m happy to name other publications) about the Grammy’s Fab-gone-wrong. I didn’t quite enjoy what Jessica wrote, cause she really didn’t say much, but I did enjoy that little insider opinion from the folks at MFP. IMHO... well, who am I to judge what others (especially the rich and famous) want to wear, right? After all, it’s not really their fault; blame it on their personal shoppers or whatever they call them. But despite all the critical remarks thrown their way, they still get to walk on the red carpet while the rest of us lust in front of our television or computers watching. Enough about the Grammy, one day, maybe, I’ll be there, not. Coming back, again. I have a rule when it comes to outfits, which is what my dear partner suggested I talk about: one should not wear the same outfit more than once in a week... come to think of it, make that a month or even a year.

Sabrina Wang 06

Even the LBD is no excuse. Yes, we all love the LBD. It can never go wrong. But even if you were to wear it twice in the same season, the least you could do is to accessorize it, or rather, disguise it. With the rise of the blogshops, do you really have a reason to say you can’t find affordable clothing? Talking about blogshops and outfits, let me just whore myself out a little. You gotta just check out my awesome new column “Outfits of the Week” in my… yes, personal blog! While at it, you can also visit my blog in SauceINK! I’m going to make sure the rest of the team either blogs our website or create their own, whichever rocks their boats best.

Passion is the key. It’s the very thing that keeps us going. One thing is for sure; all three of us want to make Fondrey work. Disagreements aside, this common goal keeps us united and focused...

Lynn

Q: Are you in a relationship right now? If so, how do you manage the time for everything else and your two friends? Yes I am. Honestly, I do not have time for everything else but I make time for people who are important in my life. As for the three of us, the only time we spend together is during our photo shoots and meetings. We talk shop even when we’re at a friend’s BBQ gathering! That’s how passionate we are about Fondrey! Q: How and when did the three of you become friends? I came to know Christina at Miss Singapore International 2009 and subsequently Kyla at the recent World cup event at Resorts world where we worked together as soccer babes. Q: Is there anything about you that the other two don’t know? My quirky habits perhaps? Q: What do you think is your role in your friendship? (E.g. are you the advisor, the cheerleader, the nerd, etc.) I’m not quite sure. I am rational when I’m discussing work with Kyla but I get cranky with Christina. Q: How would you introduce yourself to a stranger and be able to relay who you really are as a person? Please start answer by “Hi, I’m [your name] ...” Hi, I’m Lynn! I’m a workaholic who is guided by my dreams and by God’s grace. I’ve been blessed with many opportunities to live those dreams! Q: Tell us something about yourself that is distinct from your two friends. I’m a psychology major in NUS but they’re both chemistry majors in NTU.

Q: Do you consider them as your BFFs? Why do you think so? Yes. I don’t have any close girlfriends; all my time is spent on work and my boyfriend! I’m actually very glad I get to spend time with them during our shoots and meetings! Q: What’s the craziest thing that you girls have ever done together? Locking Christina in a dark room after one of our meetings! lol Q: If you can turn back time, can you think of another person as a replacement or an addition to your group? I will never do that. I think we are the perfect team for Fondrey!our meetings! lol 11 www.SauceINK.com

Q: How and when did you girls start the blogshop? Please explain the entire process, including the pitfalls. I’ve always wanted to start a blogshop but lacked the time to do so. I went around asking some friends and Christina was the only receptive one. I was really glad she was and everything went lightning fast. We had two meetings and that was all it took to start Fondrey. The start was a mad rush and we had our beginner’s hiccups especially for our first few purchases as we were inexperienced and overly eager. We exceeded our budget and ended with lots of leftover stocks. We also had a lot of miscommunications as our roles tend to bottleneck each other. It’s really tough and we’re still learning to cope with it. Kyla joined in a few months later and revamped the system. She did an excellent job I must say. Definitely a wonderful addition to our team, I always believe in the magic 3! Q: What was the greatest hurdle you girls had to go through while setting up Fondrey? IIt has to be destructive opinions. In fact, those came from our family members who did not think that entering the saturated blogshop scene was a wise choice. We’re all the more determined to make Fondrey rock!

Q: Was there ever a time that you girls had a misunderstanding? If so, what was it about? And what do you girls argue about the most? We recently had a misunderstanding. It has to do with the shifting of workload allocation with Kyla’s addition. Christina and I tend to be very blunt with words so we quarrel quite often over trivial matters. We try not to take things too hard and always forget and forgive! 12

Q: It seems like you girls are having a lot of fun. Care to share the secret? Passion is the key. It’s the very thing that keeps us going. One thing is for sure; all three of us want to make Fondrey work. Disagreements aside, this common goal keeps us united and focused. Q: What’s your personal style when it comes to fashion? I have a very diverse style when it comes to fashion. I’m very experimental. I can be a rock star yesterday, a demure girl-next-door today or a 60s retro queen the next day. Fondrey’s style is definitely influenced by my penchant to experiment.

Q: Do you girls consider yourselves cliquish? If yes, in what way? If no, why do you think so? In some way or another, we are. Especially so since we manage Fondrey. We’re fiercely protective of our business. Q: How do you separate business with friendship? We do not separate them! I always believe that business goes hand in hand with friendship. If your friendship cannot withstand the test of dollars and cents, it probably is not worth much alone. Q: Do you think you girls are closer because of Fondrey? We have to be closer, don’t you think? Fondrey is on our minds every single day and we now proudly speak the Fondrey language. LOL

Q: As a group, how do you imagine yourselves in the next 3 to 5 years? And what do you think is the role of Fondrey in your lives by then? We will definitely still be managing Fondrey and hopefully designing our own labels! You can be sure we’re dying to do so! Every time Kyla and I shop and we see designs we love, we will take out our little sketchbooks and sketch the designs for our future labels. Fondrey will be a big part of our lives, just as it is right now. Q: Last words? We will rock Fondrey! Thanks for all the awesome support that has kept us growing strong!

Q: What’s the goal of Fondrey? What were you aiming for when you started this business? The mission and vision of Fondrey is to cater versatility to shoppers of any age with affordable clothing. We want our customers to love their buys as much as we love our finds. I was aiming for a venue to exercise my creativity and love for fashion. I love to dress up so much that turning my passion into a business gives me the perfect excuse to do so! Q: As an individual, where do you see yourself in the next 3 to 5 years? I see myself married happily to my boyfriend who is also my most understanding soul mate and most supportive cheerleader. I’ll still be living my dream which includes managing Fondrey.

Friendships are all the same. But I think we are pretty special as we complement each other’s flaws and things always turn out to be good.

Christina

14

Q: How would you introduce yourself to a stranger and be able to relay who you really are as a person? Please start answer by “Hi, I’m [your name] ...” Hi, I’m Christina and it’s very nice to meet you? (more conversations are needed to show who I really am as a person I guess) Q: Tell us something about yourself that is distinct from your two friends. I’m someone who is always on the safe side, either on choosing clothes to wear or even when posing for photos. Totally different from Kyla and Lynn. Q: Are you in a relationship right now? If so, how do you manage the time for everything else and your two friends? Nope, not in a relationship for now (but I do hope to be in one soon)! Time can be easily managed, and I believe that for the 3 of us, Fondrey comes first; boyfriend and anything else come second. Q: How and when did the three of you become friends? I got to know Kyla when I first entered Uni, and we are both in the same course, Chemistry. As for Lynn, it was pretty random! We joined a pageant and that’s how we got to know each other. Lynn and I lost contact for like to a year? But we met each other again during a modelling assignment last June.

Q: Is there anything about you that the other two don’t know? Kyla knows me inside out I guess! (She is my close friend and I shared a lot with her.) Lynn has seen all my stupidest moment; guess she has more to find out for herself! But she is smart, so no worries haha. Q: What do you think is your role in your friendship? (E.g. are you the advisor, the cheerleader, the nerd, etc.) The Doer. Doing all the work such as packing of parcels and mailing of parcels, plus setting up of livejournal and designing it as well. Q: Do you consider them as your BFFs? Why do you think so? I don’t think so. Business partners can’t be bffs, complicates things and make things harder to be achieved. Q: What’s the craziest thing that you girls have ever done together? Every single shoot that we had were crazy, because we had great fun! However, Lynn and I once did something out of the blue together. We were at Wisma after a meeting, so we went up to the car park to fetch Lynn’s car when we saw a couple making out in their car near us. Lynn then drove the car passed them, and flashed high beam at them! That was really fun and crazy.

15 www.SauceINK.com

Q: Do you think you have a special kind of friendship? And if so, what makes your group special? Friendships are all the same. But I think we are pretty special as we complement each other’s flaws and things always turn out to be good. Q: If you can turn back time, can you think of another person as a replacement or an addition to your group? Nope, I think this is the best combination. Q: Was there ever a time that you girls had a misunderstanding? If so, what was it about? And what do you girls argue about the most? Business always leads to some arguments, unavoidable though. But for us, I guess the most common one will be on punctuality. Someone knows best. Q: How and when did you girls start the blogshop? Please explain the entire process, including the pitfalls. It was extremely random! And it all happened when Lynn and I were working together for this modelling assignment at Resort World in June. It was just a casual remark made by her and she asked me, and without thinking much, I agreed! Initially it was formed together with my extreme best friend, James, but he has too much commitment outside. So gradually, we brought Kyla in as we are expanding as well. The entire process was tougher than what I expected it to be. Setting up and coming up with concepts different from other blogshops make my head burst! But in the end, we still handle it well and things are smooth sailing. After Kyla joined us, things improved a lot as well. Q: What was the greatest hurdle you girls had to go through while setting up Fondrey? Building on the customer base and competing with other blogshops.

16

Q: It seems like you girls are having a lot of fun. Care to share the secret? YES we do enjoy every single shoot! No secret, the personalities make the difference. We are the creators, we are the models as well, and we are doing things we like. How can we not have FUN??? Q: What’s your personal style when it comes to fashion? Simple and chic.

Q: How do you separate business with friendship? We just got to be very subjective. Q: Do you think you girls are closer because of Fondrey? Yes, for sure. We girls meet up so often to discuss on plans and stuff. Without Fondrey, I wonder when will be the next time that I’m gonna meet Lynn again. Haha. Q: Among the fashion Icons and personalities out there, who’s your idol and why? Frankly speaking, I have none! :) Q: What’s the goal of Fondrey? What were you aiming for when you started the business? To make Fondrey different from other blogshops, and to create a branding. Q: As an individual, where do you see yourself in the next 3 to 5 years? I will be graduating soon, and next few years down the road, I will most probably be working hard for my own career.

Q: Do you girls consider yourselves cliquish? If yes, in what way? If no, why do you think so? No we are not (surprisingly). Because we have so much other commitments outside and it’s always hard for us to meet each other. Not even for Kyla and me when we are in the same school and same course!

Q: As a group, how do you imagine yourselves in the next 3 to 5 years? And what do you think is the role of Fondrey in your lives by then? We hope Fondrey will really be the next big thing for online blogshops, alongside with older blogshops like Dressabelle and Bonitochico? If Fondrey is really successful, who knows we might make Fondrey into our full-time job and make it even better? Q: Last words? The girls behind Fondrey will always try our very best in giving surprises through our shoots and collections. And thanks to all the ladies who have been supporting us throughout! Hope this support doesn’t stop! :)

Kyla

...our friendship is like chocolate. It’s special because it’s a love-hate relationship. Haha.

18

Q: Are you in a relationship right now? If so, how do you manage the time for everything else and your two friends? Yes, I believe there’s always time for everything but it all boils down to time management and prioritising. Q: How and when did the three of you become friends? Christina and I are University Course mates and I first met Lynn at a casting through a mutual friend. Q: Is there anything about you that the other two don’t know? They have a lot to find out… haha. Q: What do you think is your role in your friendship? (E.g. are you the advisor, the cheerleader, the nerd, etc.) The mediator. Q: Do you consider them as your BFFs? Why do you think so? There can only be one BFF and I already have one. But they will be next. Q: What’s the craziest thing that you girls have ever done together? Having a meeting in the middle of fun. Q: How would you introduce yourself to a stranger and be able to relay who you really are as a person? Please start answer by “Hi, I’m [your name] ...” Hi, I’m Kyla and I don’t bite. Q: Tell us something about yourself that is distinct from your two friends. Organised.

Q: If you can turn back time, can you think of another person as a replacement or an addition to your group? I will never do that. I think we are the perfect team for Fondrey!our meetings! lol Q: Do you think you have a special kind of friendship? And if so, what makes your group special? Definitely, our friendship is like chocolate. It’s special because it’s a love-hate relationship. Haha.

19 www.SauceINK.com

Q: If you can turn back time, can you think of another person as a replacement or an addition to your group? No, everyone is essential and unique in our own ways. I do appreciate our strengths and even flaws so we can work to improve together. Q: Was there ever a time that you girls had a misunderstanding? If so, what was it about? And what do you girls argue about the most? Of course! We need arguments to learn. We usually bicker about different business ideas. Q: How and when did you girls start the blogshop? Please explain the entire process, including the pitfalls. I joined the girls after a few months. It was a rather spontaneous process. Initially, I had difficulty in keeping up with what they were doing. Q: What was the greatest hurdle you girls had to go through while setting up Fondrey? In my opinion, I guess it will be materialising all the ideas that we have for Fondrey. Q: It seems like you girls are having a lot of fun. Care to share the secret? Relax and enjoy life! Q: What’s your personal style when it comes to fashion? To feel comfortable and confident. Q: Do you girls consider yourselves cliquish? If yes, in what way? If no, why do you think so? No~ We are a fun loving group and we have a huge pool of common friends. Q: How do you separate business with friendship? Personally, I feel that being professional and objective is important. Differences need not be taken personally or to feel offended when there is an argument. Respecting one another’s opinions is crucial. 20

Q: Do you think you girls are closer because of Fondrey? Yes, Fondrey allowed more time for interaction and understanding one another. Q: Among the fashion Icons and personalities out there, who’s your idol and why? Well, I guess this is one question we can look into together. Q: What’s the goal of Fondrey? What were you aiming for when you started the business? “We are shaped and fashioned by what we love” - Johann Wolfgang To start our own Fondrey label one day! Q: As an individual, where do you see yourself in the next 3 to 5 years? I will see myself working and travelling the world. I always dream to travel the world. Hence, I hope that I can do so while building my career. Q: As a group, how do you imagine yourselves in the next 3 to 5 years? And what do you think is the role of Fondrey in your lives by then? Fondrey will grow to be bigger and much better. Also, we will be catering to a larger market than now. Fondrey will be the platform for us to showcase the style and fashion we love. Q: Last words? To the Fondrey girls: Girl Power! To the dear readers: The Fondrey team is dedicated to bring you memorable and fun online shopping journeys. We welcome all feedbacks to serve you better. Thank you for all your support! Don’t forget to share the good things with your friends! Join the Fondrey family! 21 www.SauceINK.com

JOHN CHENG Bachelor Interview When dreaming of your perfect match, do you think of fast cars, brains, and romance? It’s quite interesting to know that there are still guys out there who know how to prepare a meal, pick you up, and bring you to a romantic picnic. Okay, maybe not a lot of them out there, but at least John Cheng is. And he is our Bachelor of the Month.

22

Q: Introduce yourself (anything and everything you can think of) e.g. interest/past-time, etc: Relaxing on the beach, with the sun and breeze, slurping a cold milkshake or eating a dark rich chocolate ice-cream. Q: In ten words (or so) describe who you are: A thinker, an observer and dog lover. Q: Run us through your working day: Start the day by listing and prioritising what are the things I need to do whilst driving to work as it’s a 20 minutes drive. Spend the first few hours clearing the top priorities and then start clearing emails. Q: In regards to your job, what are the biggest challenge? Getting in too deep and losing yourself. I guess what I mean is forgetting why you are doing the things you are doing and keeping focus of your goals.

Q: What is your best asset? My smile. Q: If you could change something about yourself, what would it be? My height. LOL. Q: What do you think is the ideal height for a guy? And for that matter, for a girl? Why? Haha... height and length doesn’t matter... haha... not too short that you have problems trying to kiss. Q: If you had to use a colour to describe yourself, what colour would that be? Why? Blue. Strong (masculine) yet tranquil/peaceful.

Q: What do you drive? Why did you pick that car? I drive a really fun car... It’s small compact, easy to park, handles corners well and expresses freedom or so the advertising claims. I guess I chose it mainly cos I’m a fan of BM (the handling, quality of drive). Not surprisingly my last two cars were BMs... and cos I have a soft spot for blue... Q: What is going to be your next car? Predictably a BMW... sports... definitely 2 doors...

23 www.SauceINK.com

24

Q: What is your worst date experience? Realising only after you sat down at dinner that you aren’t compatible but she digs you. Damm... Q: Your first crush. Who was she? How, when, where did you meet her? What happened? Tell us a little more details, especially the interesting parts. That was in my pre-teens. She got me interested in dogs and SPCA. She was quite a nice gal even calling me after my bedtime (9pm) which got my mom alarmed. My Mom would grumble, “so late already still call... so young... blah blah.” Anyway I was young and immature for anything real. Q: What is the one physical feature you look for in a woman? Blush... Boobs I mean pretty face, nice smile... Q: What is the most important character/trait you look for in a woman? Niceness... Q: When you say “niceness” is most important character/trait, what do you mean by “niceness”? I guess it’s when your buddies say, “hey she’s quite a catch, she’s nice”.

Q: What is the most romantic thing you have ever done? Drove my date to a nice quiet place and ate a dinner that I prepared, in my car. Q: You said the most romantic thing you have done is dining (under the stars I assume) that you prepared? Do you like cookery? What did you prepare? How often do you cook? It was in the backseat of my old car... only enjoy it if I’m in the mood and not every time. Don’t like cleaning afterwards. I think I did my Japanese cutlet curry made from scratch... once in a long while... when I feel romantic. Q: What is your ideal date night like? A simple quiet dinner. Q: What is your ideal date night like? A simple quiet dinner. Q: What a simple quiet dinner like for you? It can be just a take away... without the distractions of work, tv, friends, etc...

Q: What do you think of women who go under the knife? Rich... Vain... I think it’s ok provided they don’t overly do it. I wouldn’t want a plastic girlfriend. Q: Would you date women that undergone plastic surgery, why? Sure. Everyone’s insecure about something. Just shows they have determination to change it. Being a little vain is fine by me.. means she takes care of her looks. Q: Beauty vs. brains? Which is more important to you and why? (Be honest.) Tough one. I’ll choose one with a mix of the two... moderate sense. No point having the extremes, one with beauty but not brains, vice versa... Q: Where do you see yourself and what do you hope to achieve in 5 years time? More confident in the professional sense, earning a lot more... keke Q: If you could be any woman for a day, who would you be? Paris Hilton. Enjoying life everyday... 25 www.SauceINK.com

HONG KONG FASHION WEEK

For Fall/Winter 2011

The Hong Kong fashion week for Fall/Winter, which was held recently from the January 17th to 20th, is the largest collection in this side of the region. Top International fashion talents joined the event together with 2,000 exhibitors, which occupied a large portion of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre for the World boutique. Two of the highlights of the event are the Fashion Extravaganza, and the Young Designers Contest.

26

Fashion Extravaganza The Fashion Extravaganza is a gala presentation of fashion and lifestyle features. It took place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, and was presided by none other than Financial Secretary, John Tsang. At the last night of the extravaganza, four internationally renowned fashion designers showcased their latest collections and gave the crowd a night to remember.

The designers who participated were Japan’s Keita Maruyama, Korean designer Doii Lee, mainland designer Alex Wang, and Barney Cheng from Hong Kong. Keita Maruyama is known for his sophisticated and romantic look. He uses traditional Japanese motifs, and incorporate modern into it. Models Ai Tominaga and Yamadu Yu were the models chosen to showcase Maruyama’s creations.

27

www.SauceINK.com

Next stop is Korean designer Doii Lee. This designer worked with John Galliano and Kenzo before deciding to take on his own. To better demonstrate her masterpieces, Lee used Korean models Song Eun Ji and Ji Ae to walk down the runway wearing her work.

28

Then we have Designer Alex Wang, who has the propensity to bring contemporary look to his designs. Mainland model Li Dan Ni showed off Wang’s designs and made it a highlight of the Extravaganza.

And lastly from Hong Kong, Barney Cheng. He is among Hong Kong’s top designers. Fala Chan and Jennifer Tse, both Hong Kong artists modeled Cheng’s latest collection.

Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest The Young Fashion Designers’ Contest gives attention to the next generation of Hong Kong design talents. The winners were grouped in different categories like Casual & Jeans-wear, Contemporary Day-wear, and Party and Evening-wear. Then was an overall winner. Martine Sitbon, the Creative Director of Rue du Mail, was the VIP judge for the Young Fashion Designers’ Contest. Other judges were the Chairman of HKTDC Garment Advisory Committee, Chief Judge Vincent Fang, and Hong Kong designers Martin Lee and Bonita Cheung. The contestants were judged by their creativity, originality, market potential, craftsmanship, wearability, the use of colour and fabric and overall visual impact.

And the winners are:

Overall Winner: Eva Cheng “Fragments of the Sky”

30

This collection was inspired by the cityscape of Hong Kong and the shadows it makes. Traditional Chinese papercutting technique merged with intricate silhouettes creating a 3D bloom-like shape and layering. The designs carried with them a longing for the familiar sky. All are sleek and emotive, and the dresses flow in a contrast of black and white.

31 www.SauceINK.com

Casual & Jeans-Wear Group Winner: Angela Ng “The Black Sheep”

32

The collection shows individuality and power of those people brave enough to defy convention. They are sometimes called outcasts, and Ng’s collection gave an evocative take on the idea of outcasts. Loose and disproportionate cutting symbolizes the burden of the outsider and as well as the multiple-use outfits feature dark-coloured wool felting. The entire collection showcases a fuse of unconventional design while projecting a stunning display of creativity and craft.

Contemporary Day-Wear Group Winner: Mag Choy: “Inanimate Infection”

‘Inanimate Infection’ gives us a palette of grayish pink, blue and khaki, depicting the outside world influences. It gives you a poignant view at the pressure that societal conventions can burden us with. Choy used knitwear adorned with patterns woven from a variety of yarn, fine metal chains and beading, to show us the constrains of city life.

33 www.SauceINK.com

Party & Evening-Wear Group Winner: Zoe Li “Jugendstil”

The curvying shapes you can see in the collection are created by pleating, while rganza-and-chiffon dresses flow in fancy and natural colors. It pays homage to painter Gustav Klimit, by exuding sensuality because Klimit’s work encapsulates the beauty of woman. The title of the collection, ‘Jugendstil’ which is the German interpretation of youthful spirit, was inspired by Europe’s Art Nouveau movement.

A Tribute to

Bridget Jones’

New Year’s Resolutions By Catherine Panagniton

January 1, 2011 My New Year’s Resolutions 1. Exercise. 2. Eat well . 3. Get enough sleep. 4. Date non-dysfunctional and gorgeous men . 5. Never be caught dead in a hideous outfit.

Hmmm… There is something terribly wrong with my list. I have read somewhere that in order to succeed, we have to set realistic goals. I hate exercise, I like eating whatever I want because I can never gain a pound, sleeping six hours a day is moot because I have tons of work to do and for some reason, I am strangely attracted to men who have something wrong with them. Well, I think I best start out with one thing I know I can keep up all year long.

January 1, 2011 My New Year’s Resolutions 1. Never be caught dead in a hideous outfit.

That looks soooo much better! But in order to keep this resolution, I would need some help. Here are the top designers who can make working girls like me (and you) live up to this resolution with aplomb. Cheers to 2011!

Diane Von Furstenberg I am loving Ms. D’s black and white ensembles, with a bit of a chartreuse neon yellow splashed out in strategic places. There’s always something very fashion-y about the contrast between pattern and a bright color. And black and white always look very elegant.

And have you seen that gorgeous beige trench coat? No frumpy layers that do nothing for the figure. The semi-puffed but form-fitting sleeves accentuate the slender of your shoulders and the coat just wraps around your figure perfectly, with a belt that cinches your waist and makes you look like you have an hourglass figure. This item can be passed on for generations and will never go out of style. Not to mention, the polka-dotted stockings are just to die for. Her clothes are feminine yet strong, very stylish yet so wearable. Ms. D, you do not disappoint.

Carolina Herrera Looks like for 2011, the uber beautiful and stylish Carolina Herrera who once dressed the ethereal and classy Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, had taken a trip to the Oriental. I am not much a fan of her spring collection that bore mixed inspirations of floral and Chinese culture, but there are still a few noteworthy dresses that I especially like. I would rather she stick with the style that made her famous- one that oozed understated elegance, wealth and breeding.

38

Marc Jacobs Since the nineties ended, I have shorn off all my rocker wannabe fantasies. Gone were the all black ensembles, piercings and jeans. However, Marc Jacobs takes on avant garde to a whole new level. His look is edgy, new, yet classy at the same time. The clothes’ cuts were sharp, businesslike no-nonsense but still look pleasing to the eye. I am starting to love Marc.

Michael Kors I am about to break into fashion hysterics. I could not help gasping to myself as I saw Kors’ 2011 Spring Collection that screams the openly hated yet secretly adored W.A.S.P.! (think the Stepford wives, Hamptons and those uppity rich blue blooded heiresses of billion dollar fortunes). I could just imagine walking down the office corridors in casual preppy whites and gray Michael Kors suits that are reminiscent of Ivy League school wear or Oxford brats. Never underestimate the appeal of prep.

40

Victoria Beckham She does not really design the clothes but the collection is an illustration Mrs. Victoria Beckham’s style- class meets geometry. Sure, she favors muted and classic colors like white, grays, blacks and salmons but there’s a bit of a surprise in the otherwise boring preppy attire- a little misaligned (yet intentional) cut at the neckline, a black tube dress with sparkly sheer long-sleeved atop as cover. However, some of the clothes’ cut and style are made only for size 0 girls who are so thin they could look good in anything so there’s a danger of them not appealing to women in general.

The peach, flowy, one-shoulder Grecian goddess inspired dress is particularly noteworthy though. If Beckham could do more of these and translate it to the other pieces in her collection, her business will-as the other aspects of her life, be a tremendous success.

A Classy Babe’s Guide to the Style that Never Fades… Whatever the decade you were born in, whatever the season, whatever the trends there are out there, there are a few things in fashion that will never go out of style. This is a guide of what every classy girl should live with and sort of a tribute to all those ultra-cool fashion icons and aficionados who brought these to us. Womankind thanks you all.

Adventure

Gone were the days where women married young and are told to stay home to watch the children. Gone were the pretty teenagers who were told to take ballet lessons, go to charm school and be soft-spoken and delicate. Women now are free to do anything they want. Go to top notch schools and travel all they want before deciding to settle down. There is so much to see in our world and the adventurous woman takes advantage of the opportunities there are.

This looks striking and chic.

Beads, Pearls and More Accessories

Beads, Pearls and Accessories can jazz up an otherwise okay-looking outfit. You can drape them as a short single strand if you want to look like a sweet debutante, or you can layer on them and make them go all around your neck several times for that glamorous and over-the-top chic. It all depends on the outfit, and when done right, you are able to march into any place with a bang.

Cassi Van den Dungen

I used to work in media and with models and I would like to think that I have an eye when it comes to what works in the fashion industry. So when I saw Cassi in Australia’s Next Top Model Cycle, I thought, hands down, you have a clear winner here.

Diamonds

There is so much brouhaha about these sparklers that even blond bombshell Marilyn Monroe broke out into a song wearing them! What are award shows, weddings, debuts and anniversaries without them? Fashion goddesses Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor are huge fans. Angelina Jolie ordered the staff at a Britain hotel to rip the whole room where she stayed for the BAFTA awards apart upon realizing that she left her diamonds there. What is the whole deal about diamonds that make women crazy? Most girls have no idea, but they still go gaga over them. These things will never lose their appeal. Ask any girl who has ever worn them. Diamonds have and will always be a girl’s best friend.

But oddly enough, she was just a runner-up. Politics came in the way; what with Sarah Murdoch apparently hating her guts (Would the fact that Sarah nicknamed Cassi‘the boganista’ be enough evidence of that? Note that in Australia the term ‘bogan’ is usually used for those who are uncultured, boorish and belong to the lower socioeconomic class.) Maybe it was rightfully so, considering that she said some bad things about the French when she was supposed to go to Paris for the Fashion week. Or Cassi’s lack of appreciation of all the good things that were just handed to her in a silver platter ( for most people, Cassie wanting to get married with her bricklayer boyfriend as opposed to jetsetting around the globe as a model shows that she was just out of her mind). Bottom line is, she is a MODEL. And I am talking about couture and the high fashion type- the one that matters. I would not wonder that top designers all over the world would fall over themselves to book her. All she has to do is want the job. When that happens, Kate Moss, watch out.

E

Exercise Do you know what the best treatment to the skin is? And no, I am not pertaining to the overly expensive creams and facial treatments.

I am talking about exercise. Those 30 to 1 hour of sweating has undoubtedly proven to work wonders on the skin and gives you the kind of healthy glow that all the beauty treatments around the world can’t.

You don’t have to resort to going to the gym or jogging for miles on end for exercise. There are plenty of other activities that could make you sweat it out. You can turn to sports- volleyball, basketball, tennis, swimming burn a lot of calories. Martial Arts and Self-defense classes such as Taekwondo, Karate, and Boxing can also help get rid of that extra fat. Yoga also makes you shed the pounds. Look at the seemingly flawless faces of the pro athletes. They get that from exercise and rigorous training. But don’t worry; you don’t have to train as hard as them to get results.

Kickboxing makes you sweat in just a couple of minutes.

Facial Treatments

You have been exposed to dust and grime in the hustle and bustle of daily life. Or even if you have your own car, chauffeur and maid, you still cannot say that your face is totally immune to dust. As part of the skin which is the largest organ of your body (and the fact that it is the first thing that people see when they look at you), you have to go to lengths to keep your face smooth, line-free and supple. Various facial treatments have been conjured up all across the globe. Each treatment works best for different skin types, so it is better to ask your dermatologist on what particular treatment would do wonders for you before deciding on going through it. Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion and Crystal Clear Oxygen Therapy takes out all the dead skins layer by layer and then blasts the face after with oxygen. Celebrities Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Moss, Madonna, Dita Von Teese, Victoria Beckham and Claudia Schiffer are huge fans.

Giorgio Armani

Armani’s collection are sleek, elegant and a lot of times, sexy/sultry. When a woman wears a Giorgio piece, she immediately stands up straighter, her head held high, feeling as if she is the most gorgeous woman in the room. Definitely is worthy to be in every woman’s closet.

I

High Heels

Victoria Beckham would rather die than be caught by the paparazzi wearing flats. Even when she was invited to throw the first pitch in a baseball game in Los Angeles when their entire family moved there (David Beckman was offered a contract to play for the L.A. Galaxy team, the local soccer team), she was wearing white rubber shoes with heels! Jimmy Choos and Manolo Bhlaniks are the favorite shoe brands by the stars because of their style, comfort (as opposed to other poorly made high heeled shoes) and of course, the prestige of wearing a “Mah-nolo” and “JimmyChoos” (these have become such household names that even their pronunciation have evolved as European fashion aficionados say them with their thick, affected European accents). Why do women subject themselves to the agony of tittering into these sky-high shoes that caused the increased number of foot injuries to women in New York as a recent study has shown? Beats me. I am a fan of high heels myself and I do not know the answer to the question. All I know is when I wear them; I look, oh so tall and pretty.

International Film Festivals

Film can mirror life. On the other hand, it also may symbolize the extremes in reality- the depravity that man is capable of and the saint-like goodness of its heroines and heroes. If one wants to find out more about a particular culture, in a particular place or country, one may venture on the films that their filmmakers produce. It can give you a minuscule but vivid illustration of the people and the lives that they have. Knowledge is power and you can get that from film. Expand your horizons as a movie goer, go to International Film Festivals.

Jimmy Choo makes the most mundane things (such as changing a flat tire) look glam.

Amelie Jean-Pierre Jeunet Jean-Pierre Jeunet creates a world of color, movement, romance and whimsy in a film that became a sensation in France and charmed audiences around the world. Audrey Tautou is delightful as a spirited waitress determined to help those around her find love and happiness, although her own romantic adventure proves to be a challenging one. Light as a feather, Amelie presents an idealized Paris that was shot on location, but which, through visual effects and eye-catching art direction, has the fantasized look of a Hollywood soundstage.

Rules of the Game Jean Renoir One of the great films of all time, a satirical anatomy of polite society, with a mixture of farce and bitterness. Set at a weekend party at the chateau of the rich Marquis de la Chayniest, the story concerns the complicated love intrigues among the aristocrats and the servants. But one guest’s refusal to play by society’s rules sets off a tragic chain of events. “A single scene gives us more for our senses, emotions, and intellect than most whole movies do” (The New Yorker).

I could live on these Manolos. I am sure the Sex and the City girls concur.

The LBD (Little Black Dress) is a staple in every girl/ woman’s closet. Every woman must have this dress. It is perfect for anything. Drape a blazer over it and you’re set to go to work. Take that blazer off, pull your hair down, don some nice pearls and you are ready for a semi-formal dinner. Or pair it with low-heeled sandals and you are set for a casual day about town, just having coffee or strolling through the shops. Coco Chanel came up with the first little black dress that has invaded the racks of almost every woman around the globe. The dress is slimming, chic yet simple. Natalie Portman

This girl is just about everywhere. After her successful portrayal of ballerina extraordinaire but severely disturbed Nina in Black Swan, comes her romantic comedy with Ashton Kutcher which becomes an instant box office hit. It seems Natalie cannot do anything wrong these days. This Harvard graduate has got it all- compelling beauty, gigantic brains and huge paychecks to boot, that she does not have to worry for the rest of her life. But Natalie did not do it all without tremendous amount of hard work and discipline, though. In her goal to lose twenty pounds for her role as a prima ballerina, she swam two hours a day prior to shooting and maintained a strict diet. This is on top of the grueling ballet lessons that she had to take. I, as others do, truly applaud her for her being a woman of both style and substance. Her accomplishments and the pictures below could truly attest to that.

This just took my breath away.

We have reveled and gushed about Princess Diana’s impeccable taste and almost au naturelle fashion savvy. But the Princess, had she been alive, have got to thank her designer, Catherine Walker, for making her one of the greatest fashion favorites of all-time. The French designer passed away just last year, but before doing so, she has left her mark at the pulse of every designer and fashion history.

The scarves give a couture look.

Don’t get me wrong but I personally do not find Kate Middleton pretty. But I have to concede that the girl has loads of style. Well she has to. I mean, she has to live up to her deceased (though still living in many people’s hearts and minds) supposed mother-in-law Princess Diana. She still has plenty of time to prove herself in the style department. And by the rate she is going, it looks like she might have a bit of a hope in that.

The lasting allure lies with the former and not the latter. Do not overdo it. Be sensual and men and people in general will flock to you like bees to honey.

Technology

Use words that convey depth

Wine

Forget the margaritas, the tequila shots and all the concocted ladies’ drinks. Wine is the way to go for ladies who would want to relax and have a good time, but are also concerned about their health and putting on pounds. A glass or two of wine a day has been proven to be healthy and aid digestion. It has often been attributed to the Italians’ and the French’s ability to stay trim no matter what they shove in their mouths (oops correction: They do not shove food to their mouths. They take small bites, chew slowly and savor the taste of the food- which is one of the reasons behind their lithe bodies). So ladies, when the waiter asks you what you would like to drink, you immediately blurt out, “Just wine please, thank you.”

X

Looks a whole lot more appealing than a bottle of beer, doesn’t it?

The Domaine Romanée-Conti is arguably known to be the most rarefied and expensive wine in the world, with vintages that need decades to mature.

XOXO

The famed Gossip Girl series ends with the now famous (or infamous, whichever way you look at it) “XOXO gossip girl” line. Don’t get me wrong, I am very sure the script writers were hard at work, coming up with the fast moving and twisted turn events of the ubiquitous teenage drama. But really, I could not help being distracted by the array of preppy clothes, trendy ensembles and beautiful bags and accessories worn by the equally droolworthy cast. No wonder the show’s stars have continually been hailed and put on top of “The Best-dressed” list.

Anna Wintour, the legendary VOGUE editor-in-chief (a feat because she is still alive), declares Blake Lively, a.k.a. Serena, as the Best dressed of 2010. Anna even has a moniker for Blake- “the bombshell”. And that, she truly is.

Y

Young-looking and Young at Heart

One of the secrets to looking young is to be young at heart. The happy and carefree attitude naturally translates to your body and what people can see in you. So in the midst of all the chaos at work, school etc, do not forget to smile and laugh. Marvel still at the small miracles that happen every day. Learn to laugh at yourself. Your life will improve immensely.

Laughing is good for eliminating stress.

Zsa Zsa Gabor

She has had 10 husbands in her lifetime. She has lived a life of grandiosity and excesses in the true blue Old Hollywood diva style. She is mean, callous and narcissistic, though possessing the face of an angel. Her temper is not to be forgotten, especially by those who were unluckily to be at the receiving end of it. But so does her style. It is impeccable and timeless, that we almost could forgive her for being Zsa Zsa. I have a hoot over her famous quotes. You will have one as well, if you don’t think about the fact that she was really serious when she said these at the time. Quote 1: “A man in love is incomplete until he has married. Then he`s finished.” Quote 2: “I`m an excellent housekeeper. Every time I get a divorce, I keep the house.” Quote 3: “Husbands are like fires. They go out if unattended.” Quote 4: “I don`t remember anybody`s name. How do you think the “dahling” thing got started?” Quote 5: “A girl must marry for love, and keep on marrying until she finds it.” Quote 6: [when asked how many husbands she`d had] “You mean other than my own?” Need I say more?

TOP 5 CAREERS IN FASHION

Fashion is “the root of all evil” yet many crave to be part of it. If you’re one of those who want to take your love of fashion to a higher level and actually make a living out of it, here are five fashion careers that might interest you! The question is, do you have what it takes? And, can you take what you have to? By Celia Lomio

52

FASHION MODEL Do you have what it takes? If you’re fashionable, like wearing designer clothes, you like posing in front of the camera and have an attractive physique alongside good facial features; you just might be the next top model! A career in fashion modeling can be a very rewarding job with a lot of perks that come with the profession. On the downside, careers of commercial and fashion runway models normally do not last forever. Unless of course you become an icon and all you have to do is look pretty all the time and people will pay you. Typically, fashion runway models start their career in a very early age of around 15-22, and you must have a height of at least 5’8” for you to even consider walking the runway. Having said all these, it goes without saying that not all people can become a model. The fashion industry has set very high standards for this profession, and most of these standards are not something that you can learn in school or in life.

What do you have to take? There are many people who like to be a fashion model since there is no educational investment needed to become one - there is no specific degree that would lead you to this career. All you need is exceptional physical features, confidence and of course a positive attitude (you might wonder why, but this is very important), then you’re set to be a runway model! Of course it would still be an advantage if you have a bachelor’s degree. If you feel the need, Fashion merchandising, Arts, Fashion Design and Drama would be good choices. They will help you in satisfying the needs to become a good fashion model (if not the best) because there are other qualities that clients look for. They normally give priority to models that have an already good sense of style, with the ability to look good at all times. Fashion design and Merchandising can help you with that. And a unique and pretty face is not enough. You should have a great facial projection to go with your looks. Taking up Drama classes would Photo from Web Link

ensure that for you.

FASHION DESIGNER

Photo from Web Link

Do you have what it takes? When you have an eye for cutting edge style and you want a challenging job in the fashion industry, fashion design is the career for you. You must be able to understand that clothes are not just necessary, but can also be an artistic expression. You have to be able to look at a piece of clothing as a means to project an image that you want the people to see. You have to have some (ok probably a lot) of creativity and style in you. Fashion is forever changing, and you have to be able to move as fast. If you think you’re innovative and can draw inspiration from past trends, then even better!

What do you have to take? It’s a no brainer that a Fashion Design course would be very helpful in this career. There are a lot of things you’ll learn by taking this course and there are three things that are quite important that you should learn.

54

In any school of thought, history is important. It is one of the things that we can learn a lot from, and fashion is no exception. You have to know the movement of styles in the past, as well as the current fashion evens and developments happening in the industry. And since fashion is a business, you got to have the business know-how. Understanding the basics of marketing and business can bring you a long way. It is not enough that you’re creative. You have to actually grow the business. Last but not the least-learn to perform under pressure. This career is probably one of the most pressure intensive across industries. Deadlines are tight, and competition is steep. You have to learn to work in a group and manage your time as well as your team. There would also be a lot of criticism, so make sure you don’t topple when that happens. Once you’ve learned all of these things, it’s all a matter of getting used to it, and enjoying the ride!

FASHION MERCHANDISER

FASHION STYLIST

Photo from Web Link

Do you have what it takes? Have you ever wondered how the malls and boutiques look so nice and inviting to the eyes of the shoppers? They don’t just sprout out of nowhere. In every great design, there’s a fashion merchandiser behind it. If you’re very keen in fashion but is not really cut out for a model or artistic enough to be a designer, and yet have a solid business sense in you, then you’ll probably be a very good Fashion Merchandiser. If you have a personality that can utilize both art and science in a seamless collaboration, congratulations you just found a career for you.

What do you have to take? Just like any profession, there are some things that are

Whenever you watch Sex and the City, do you say-I can dress up my girl friends as well and we’ll be like those trendy ladies. You can be a fashion stylist. And some more, if you’re keen on interacting with different kinds of personalities (does styling an MTV video sound interesting to you) and making them look good, those are clear indications of a future in fashion styling. FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER Do you have what it takes? Being a Fashion Photographer has many perks. Among them is travelling and going to different places. You might even find yourself freezing in the Alps at one time and dehydrated in a dessert the next. If you think you want to travel and accompany the models, and at the same time you have the artistic ability to capture beauty in photography, then you can either be a freelance photographer or help fashion designers, and/or fashion magazines to talk to their audience using still photos. It’s about having the good eye, and the ability of capture the mood of the scene and the subject.

Dressing It is such a common mistake, for some people to dress up in all ways fabulous, only to receive awkward stares when the picture zooms out and her dressing seems a little out of place with her environment.

Appropriately Esther Xie (Fashion blogger)

Today, I am going to touch on 5 different common occasions that we working adults encounter.

1 Work Most office ladies aren’t required to wear However, it can look boring and gloomy. Pair formal attire, but how should we find a it with a contrasting belt, and wear some suitbalance between too casual and just right? able accessories for a more interesting look. Besides the usual common rules, e.g. shorts are not allowed; here are some of my tips if you do not work in an industry where art and fashion are not required: Chiffon is a safe choice for the office. Ironing is essential to avoid looking sloppy with all the creases. Keep the prints to a minimum and avoid large prints. If you hate boring neutral colors, play around with light pastel colors. Avoid looking too cute (e.g. shocking pink, colorful floral prints, neon stripes and polka dots, etc.) You can match bright colors with your outfit but keep it to a minimum (10% of whole outfit), for example, a bright red belt or scarf. Use ruffles/little details and play around with different textures in order not to look too boring.

72

This dress is a great choice as it is a dress that mixes feminine taste and office-appropriate together. Sheer sleeves are also part of recent trends.

3 High Tea Going for High Tea usually means girly fun. This dress looks great. However, this dress might be too ‘heavy’ for afternoon tea. It’s more suitable for dinner!

2 Corporate Meeting This usually means you have to look formal. Black, white, brown and grey are safe colors we should stick to, but this does not mean just matching a white long-sleeve with black pants. You will look like you are going to a funeral. How can we use these same two pieces of apparel to create a totally different look? Tuck in the shirt to look neater and tie up the hair if it is messy. See how it creates a totally different feel than before? I love the little layers at the shoulders because it makes an otherwise boring white blouse into something a fashionista would don.

On the other hand, this simple layered white dress and wedges would do the trick. Great attire to go shopping in too!

73

www.SauceINK.com

4 Dinner Date This would depend mostly on the restaurant grade and location. Make sure you do some research on the place before you leave the house. Make sure also that your dress is not made of materials that are easy to crease. You want to make sure you don’t look untidy. Leave this dress for another day when you have more time to iron your clothes properly! Grab this lovely bustier dress that is bound to make you look even sweeter than you already are. This dress is also very versatile, as it is not too casual nor too formal. As a slip on dress, it is also effortless.

74

5 Clubbing This is one place when you are finally able to unleash your inner fashionable self. This crochet dress is probably more suitable for day wear. It’s too conservative for clubbing!

In order not to risk being underdressed, get into a subtle bareback LBD. Pair it with 4-inch heels and off you are, ready to party the night away.

load photos from their closets, organize and tag all of their clothes, and and plan out what they will be wearing for an entire month. The application even tracks how many time you have worn each item of clothing! You’ll never be a victim of fashion repetition ever again! Not sure how your favorite blouse and new sequin pants will look together? No problem, Stylebook allows users to layer pieces and preview outfits right on the screen. This application allows you to be fashionable and organized. What more can a fashionista ask for?

This application allows you to search through a multitude of Lucky editor selected clothing, accessories, and other products. As soon as you find an item that you desire, the application will connect you with an online retailer or a store within 50 miles of your current location (if one exists). If you are planning on personally picking up the item, The Lucky team may also call up the retailer and ask if the item is available in your size and/or your desired color. The store will even place it on hold for you. It’s like having your very own personal shopper! Plus, this app can be yours for free. The drawback? The application may be slow at times, however, it is well worth it.

4. Glamour Ask a Stylist Have you ever wanted to know what sales and promotional offers are going on around you? With this app, users can search for sales by distance, neighborhood, and time remaining before the sale ends. In addition, users can specify what product they would like, their personal style (retro, preppy, etc), or for which occasion they are shopping for. The only downside is that this application is currently only available for New York City and the Hamptons.

Ever needed advice on what to wear? Your phone can help! This app allows users to seek advice from a Glamour stylist. First users can browse through a collection of stylists’ biographies. They can then select the one they find most closely understands their own unique style and send this individual a question and/or upload a photo of the outfit in question. Usually, a stylist will respond promptly. Most users have reported a waiting period of fifteen minutes!

3. Style.com Instead of downloading a variety of designer apps, you can check out a wide range of major designer ready to wear collections in just one place. This free app features photos of designer looks, videos of runway shoes, and reviews. It’s easy to use and the contect dates back several years.

When she’s not debating what to wear, Louise Baker is a freelance writer and journalist. She currently writes about online degrees for Zen College Life. Her most recent article was about getting a criminal justice degree.

BLOGS GALORE There is no denying it, but blogshop is invading the Internet and creating a whole new meaning to online shopping! Blogshops are still new in a sense because you will not be able to find a definition in the dictionary, and guess what? No Wikipedia page either! Believe me; I did try to search for it. It doesn’t matter if it’s not there though because a lot of people know what a blogshop is. Basically, it is an online shopping site, need I say more? We have compiled three blogshops for you that we think are quite interesting.

78

SHOP #1

KandyKayne KandyKayne is owned by Kaykay, who happens to be a renowned professional model in Singapore. But she’s no longer just a model; recently she even started her own blog. Did I mention she has over 17,000 followers on Twitter? Impressive isn’t it? Her blogshop has a very cute slogan: “There is a little ‘KAWAII’ in every girl.” Okay, maybe that makes my definition “cute” a bit redundant. The slogan serves as a reminder to all customers that supports the brand that, “once there was a girl, as cute as pie, that girl is you.”

This is my favorite among her collection. It’s definitely cute, no doubt about it, but at the same time, there’s a pinch of femininity with its layers - like a ballerina I would say - and sexy! Fyi, this dress can also be worn as a skirt. Awesome much?

BLOGSHOP GALORE

#2

Agneselle Agneselle (pronounced as: ACT - NESS ELLE) is another blogshop to look out for. The store offer dresses, tops, bottoms and bags among many others - some items are self-manufacture. The owners of this online boutique are a pair of lovely ladies; Agnes and Peiling. On the left is Peiling, and next to her on the right is Agnes. Quite a cute tandem, wouldn’t you agree? In terms of “web technology” the store is a little outdated, in our humble opinion. Without an eCommerce system in place, quite a bit of manual work goes into processing of orders. However, in terms of style, they have it going strong. There’s no piece in their latest collection that isn’t worth a second look, especially the bags.

80

This ‘TOTE BAG’ in nude pink, happens to be my favourite piece, and it’s selfmanufactured - their custom label found within! I love the colour and also that the design shouts classic! Probably not the kind of bag you would want to bring to a dinner and dance but still versatile enough for any other occasion. I like bringing bigger bags around. What can I say; I’m a fan of the good old pen and paper.

BLOGSHOP GALORE

#3

Ascentee Ascentee is one sweet looking blogshop, and I’m guessing popular blogger, Beatrice Tan thinks so too! Unlike other blogshops, many of the items within its digital shelves of Ascentee are exclusively manufactured items, and yes, that includes the bags.

After looking at their collection, I realized that I’ve almost forgotten how feminine sun dresses make me feel. The reason is because I found this lovely little piece of sundress. I particularly like that everything is white (supposedly the colour for Spring 2011). It makes the whole look so carefree (although of course white wouldn’t literally make me carefree), and I especially liked the details. They’re intricate yet seem simple at the same time. I want!

And there you have it! Three blogshops that can aid your shopping dilemma when you’re too tied up (or plain lazy) to go to the mall. We’re getting hyped up with all the attention that blogshops are enjoying these days that we just might feature more!

REJUVENATE,

& REGENERATE

REPLENISHES

Loves, TheLuckiestChick What’s the magical thing you can do to Rejuvenate, Replenish & Regenerate at the same time? SLEEP. I think in the hectic lifestyles of Singaporeans, everyone is sleep deprived. Some are workaholics, some choose to sleep less spend the time having fun. Do you know that the optimum amount of sleep we need is 7 to 8 hours? There have been some studies that people who sleep less than 6 hours OR more than 9 hours daily is bad for your health. As for me, I work 8 to 6, 5 days a week. After work and on weekends, I blog/write and have other commitments. So with only a few precious hours at night, I refuse to spend too much time sleeping because I want to watch my Korean dramas, and catch up on my U.S series. I have an average of 5 hours of sleep for 2 weeks straight and honestly I feel so drained and I’ve got lots of blemishes popping up due to stress & lack of sleep. It’s common knowledge that the period from 11pm to 2am is the best time to be sleeping because that is the time when your skin detoxifies while you’re sleeping. Without this detoxification process, it’s no surprise you’ll experience dull, blemished skin. 82

Since I already have so many reasons to sleep late, I definitely do not want to add “insomnia” to my list! There are several sleep inducing aromatherapy products in the market and I’m sharing some products that I’ve been trying out. Being an aromatic-loving kind of girl, I love my relaxing/refreshing shower gels. Usually the first thing I do when I reach home is burn some scented candles or spritz some lavender room spray. So naturally, I was really pleased when I realized Boots carry an aromatic range; Sabai Arom, called Sleep Tight. It’s a range of products that as its name suggests-induce sleep. I tried out their Shower Gel, Body Cream & Aromatic Mist.

The main scent of this series of Sleep Tight products are Jasmine & White Champaca. There’s also a whole list of other aromatic oils like Lavender, Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Spearmint, Ginger and Aloe Vera & Jojoba oil which are really hydrating and soothing to the skin. I’ve learn a little about the uses of aromatic oils previously, so let me breakdown what the effects of the aroma oils are.

Jasmine:

Mood uplifting and also a well known aphrodisiac

Lavender:

Soothing and relaxing

Bergamot:

Sharpens the senses, refreshing yet calming.

Ylang Ylang: Calms down the hyperactive, also a well known aphrodisiac Spearmint:

Refreshing, good for headaches

Ginger:

Good for indigestion

This is how I usually use the 3 products in the Sabai -Arom Sleep Tight range:

Other than the products I’ve mentioned above, I’ve also tried another similar sleep enhancing aromatherapy product from Bath & Body Works, Sleep Body Lotion. It has Lavender & Chamomile Essential oil which has a lulling effect to enhance sleep, as compared to the Sabai-Arom Bedtime Aromatic Body Cream, this Sleep body lotion is not as hydrating. But the Lavender-Chamomile combination is both known to be soothing, calms the nerves and is the ultimate scent for relaxation. The Sleep Lotion is definitely much more soothing and more effective inducing the sleepy mood to prep for bedtime. I’ve recommended this product to some of my friends who suffered from insomnia and I got positive comments from most of them. I usually apply this product right before bedtime so the scent will still be really strong when I go to sleep and I will apply more especially around my arm because I usually sleep in this position

When I reach home from work, first thing is I’ll spritz 3 to 4 sprays of Bedtime Aromatic Mist all over my room so after I shower and go into my room it’ll smell nice and oh-so-relaxing. Next, shower with the Bedtime aromatic Shower Gel, close my eyes and breath in deeply while the scent of Jasmine flowers & White Champaca envelopes me... The scent reminds me so much of the awesome massages I’ve enjoyed when i was in Bangkok. So I make extra effort to lather the foam longer and enjoy the pampering, soothing scent when I’m using this shower gel. After showering is the best time to apply your body moisturizers since your pores are still open from the hot shower and the absorption is the best. i’ll apply the Bedtime Aromatic Body Cream all over, it leaves a white cast at first but massage it for a few seconds and your skin absorbs it. It’s super hydrating but not greasy at all, it’s so hard to come across a body cream that is like that. Plus it smells SO good I’m not even kidding. Then after all that, when I’m about to sleep I spritz the Bedtime Aromatic Mist on my pillows and the scent makes me slip into deep sleep within seconds.

So that I can smell the Sleep Lotion and it really makes me super relaxed and I usually fall asleep in no time. So girls remember, try and get 7 to 8hours of sleep every night, more importantly be in bed by 11pm so your skin can detoxify naturally, and your skin can rejuvenate, replenish & regenerate overnight and you’ll have naturally clear, glowing skin! 83 www.SauceINK.com

BROWS

Brows are one of the most important features on your face! It frames your eyes, and if your brows shape suits your face shape, it will perk you up and give you an instant face-lift! If you forget to groom your browns, even if your make up techniques are damn, awesome, it will still look so wrong!

r o f w o r b i

? u yo

n U

A good example is Megan Fox. Yes she had work done on her face, but the brows really do make quite a bit of difference doesn’t it? I don’t know about you but I’m really anal when it comes to grooming my brows. I really dislike having those little black dots (growing brow hair) hanging around my brows. Even for my boyfriend, whenever I see his brows growing out of shape, I’ll neaten it up for him. I’m no brow shaping expert so I can’t give any advice on shaping them. For me, I’d drop by a beauty salon to get my brows shaped properly, then as it grows, I’ll neaten it out myself with a facial hair razor!

You can get these from Sasa, It’s really a bang for your bucks! A few dollars for maybe 2 to 3 razors. I’m still using the razors that I bought at least 2 years ago. I think these razors are super quick for neatening up those short-short hair. With tweezers, I’m always afraid to over-pluck. Save the trips to the beauty salon, it’s too impractical for me! Just to trim a bit of my brows, I have to drop by the beauty salon every week? Waste time, Waste $$$ ! Having a beautiful brow shape that suits your face is just the first step. Not everybody has beautiful lush brows that needs no further grooming. But! we can always fill our brows in to create a nice full brow! 84

I’m currently using Ettusais Pencil Brow Liner, they actually have it in 5 different shades available, pick one to suit your hair color! I have it in 2 different colors, since I recently dyed my hair black, I’m using the Dark Brown shade. I used Yellow Brown when I had the really light brown hair! Here’s how I groom my brows.

Using the razor, get rid of all the small brow hairs. (I do this maybe every other day!)

Tips: Always make sure that your brow pencil is sharpened so you’ll have the sharp clean look!

Start filling in your brows, starting from the tail of the brow.

Fill in the middle part...

I like to outline my brows with really soft strokes, on the bottom of the brow from the head connecting to the middle part of the brows.

Then fill in the head of the brow with light stokes. (use less pressure when you’re drawing the head part, if it’s too dark it’ll look very unnatural!)

85 www.SauceINK.com

Using an angled eyeliner brush, sweep through the brows from head to tail to “spread” the colour and remove any harsh lines.

Even without any eye makeup, nicely groomed brows make your eyes pop more and look much neater!

Use the brush comb to “spread the color”, and apply more pressure while combing the “head” of the brow, so that it spreads more evenly and more natural! Yep! That’s it! Just do your regular makeup and you’ll find having a nicely groomed eyebrow makes you look much cleaner + sharper overall!

Make yourself

Photogenic By Esther Xie I’ve always been complimented as photogenic (although that’s probably a better way of saying I don’t look as good as my photos) and with several years of camwhoring experience under my belt, I’m going to share some tips on how to create good pictures of yourself! It’s so much easier to achieve good looks on a photo than in reality. You just need the following tricks!

1

MAKEUP Test your makeup. Sometimes makeup looks different under different lighting. I’ve learnt this from painful past experiences of having my pictures looking like I have patchy makeup. Even if your face looks fine under normal lighting, that might not be the case under the bright sun or your camera’s flash. Before you head out, always use your camera (with flash) to take a photo after putting on makeup and check if there’s any patchy colours. Choose a correct concealer tone and blend it well as this is the easiest mistake to make on flash photos.

2

Dressing High waist shorts - Gives the impression of long legs Black colour over white colour, small prints over large prints - And vice versa if you want to look bigger Heels - It will lengthen your legs and make it look slimmer too. 88

3

ANGLE & POSE Facial portrait Find your favourite side, be it left profile, right profile, or straight on. Besides that, instead of taking from 45 degree high angle, let me introduce you a new technique that is not so obvious yet using the same trick. Angle your camera the same level as your face, but tilt the camera a little. This way, you look like you are not distorting your face but actually you are. Try it! (Remember to tilt your head downwards a little!)

Full-body Remember not to take from too high an angle as it will make your legs look short. Pose with one leg in front of the other. Do not flatten your arms on your body heavily. Lift it up a little or put your hands on your waist. Or you can bend it backwards to hide part of the arm behind. Have long hair if you can. Long hair placed in front usually covers or distracts fat arms.

89 www.SauceINK.com

4

PHOTOSHOP Background Choose a plain background to take photos if you want to use the liquifying tool. Avoid polkadots, stripes, and messy background.

Cropping Cut off unnecessary sides. Cut off fat arms if you are not confident of liquifying accurately. By leaving little space on top and bottom of your picture, you’ll look taller. These are really easy tricks, happy snapping!

SHOP : The Ultimate Fashion Bazaar With over 200 avid shoppers attending the Fashion Bazaar late last January, SHOP begins paving its way to bring us an innovative shopping experience complete with cocktails, live music, and a great range of premium products and services. Organised by HEAT branding, The Ultimate Fashion Bazaar was held at Customs House on Saturday, January 29, 2011 from 1pm to 6pm. The event showcased up and coming lifestyle brands and partners, as well as complimentary f&b stalls. Games, fun, music and… wet weather. But despite the downfall, the bazaar still managed to bring smiles to the shoppers. Chelo Elkerton, Interior Designer, Design Intervention said, “My wet and miserable Saturday afternoon was brightened up by the SHOP Fashion Bazaar.”

Christmas

Tea Party SauceINK | THEBLOGSHOP

Personal - that’s how we do things in SauceINK. Last December, in collaboration with THEBLOGSHOP (TBS) SauceINK celebrated the release of its December/January issue by inviting friends for an afternoon tea right in the very shop of TBS.

106

The entire family of SauceINK joined in the fun, including their friends. The event was planned to be very casual and fun at the same time. It started off by giving a tour of the shop, with our DJ helping in directing guests to the right direction. And of course it wouldn’t be complete if we don’t show everybody the fruit of our hard work (erm… awake till 5am) just so we’re able to give our readers meaningful content.

Talk and chit-chat! Everybody getting acquainted with everybody. In concurrence to the theme of the event, tea was served, together with some finger food. The atmosphere was heartwarming, and everybody was waiting for the mini-fashion show to begin.

107 www.SauceINK.com

We had a total of four models on the “runway”. One by one, they came out from the dressing room, as if they’re just there to shop and showing their friends how the clothes fit them.

108

In this photo above, you can see our four models looking pretty in front of the cameras together with our editor, Sabrina Wang and TBS’s lady boss, Jacqueline Koh. This whole event was actually the brain child of Sabrina and Jacqueline. What started as just a fun plan actually turned out to a successful launch of our December/January issue. The tea party didn’t end with that. I guess everybody just liked the company so even after the finale which was the fashion show, people still lingered around, either shopping, or just hanging and talking to old friends as well as new found ones.
