Bike Challenge teams compete for fame, fitness, and to raise money for local charities and organizations, May 1st -31st Traffic Solutions is hosting its 8th annual challenge as part of CycleMAYnia 2012. Participants form teams of 5 and earn points everyday they make a round-trip by bike, keeping a car off of the road. Teams ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd... 50th will earn fame and raise money. As a one-time bonus, any team that attends a CycleMAYnia event will earn 10 extra points! New this year - Local charities and organizations will see the benefits of cycling in the form of $3,000. The teams that bike the most will earn the most for their chosen programs. 1st place is a $500 contribution, followed by a range of $400 to $25 contributions for the remaining top 50 ranked teams. Prize drawings will also be held weekly for bike gear and gift certificates from local sponsors - Bicycle Bob’s, VeloPro, Open Air Bicycles, FasTrack, Horny Toad Active Wear, and REI. The Bike Challenge is open to anyone who lives or works in SB County, as well as local businesses. Form a team with coworkers and friends and log-in to your existing Traffic Solutions account (or create one) at www.TrafficSolutions.info to register. Choose the program you’d like to support. Bici Centro - Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition (SBBC) DIY bicycle repair shop and education center. COAST Safe Routes to School Program - promotes walking and biking to school and advocates safer streets and better traffic enforcement. Food Bank of Santa Barbara County - coordinates food distribution for the needy and provides education to solve local hunger and nutrition problems. SBBC’s Bike Advocacy Campaign - advocates improved bicycle infrastructure and increased safety for youth and adults. Transition House - provides aid to local homeless families with programs to restore self-sufficiency and a return to permanent housing.
