Hard to believe it is Fall and Thanksgiving will be here soon. Looking forward to the holiday season with friends and family. We have many things to be thankful for, including all the benefits of being members of CSHP and our local chapter. The fabulous continuing education and pharma-sponsored programs are always something we look forward to so we can connect with each other. Hope everyone registered, attended and enjoyed the 2020 Virtual Seminar. One of the consequences of COVID-19 is companies are laying people off. Our membership provides support and networking opportunities to help us through any crisis. Our chapter received the 2020 Chapter of Distinction and Affiliate Chapter Public Relations Recognition Award. Thank you everyone for all your active participation to make this happen!

An Emergency Medicine and Infectious Disease Pharmacist’s Perspective From the Frontlines of the COVID-19 Pandemic By Rey Wang, PharmD, Educational Affairs
As we eagerly anticipate the return to in-person gatherings and meetings, the educational affairs committee has been hard at work behind the scenes to host another successful virtual CE event on 9/29/20! We were excited to welcome our guest speaker Dr. Tracy Trang, PharmD, BCPS, BCIDP, an emergency medicine pharmacist at Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center. Presenting on a very relevant topic, Dr. Trang gave us an in-depth look into her experience as an EM and ID pharmacist working on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our attendees learned about some of the challenges with the unknown disease, opportunities for increasing pharmacist involvement, and novel pharmacotherapeutic agents for managing COVID-19. With our experience hosting virtual CE’s throughout the year, we also decided to collaborate with our pharmaceutical industry partners to help sponsor this webinar. Representatives from Genentech, Biogen, and Shionogi joined us via Zoom to provide us informative talks on some of their new products prior to Dr. Trang’s presentation. The Zoom breakout room format was a success and goes to show that despite our limitations to the virtual setting, we could still host well-planned, valuable webinars for our guests. We had over 40 participants attending our virtual CE this time around and we hope that you will continue to join in our future virtual events as well!

Fall 2020
By Angela Lee, PharmD, BCPS, APh, Social Affairs
During these unprecedented times, CSHP brought its vision for the annual seminar to life on a virtual platform October 20th-25th. It was attended by over 1300 pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy students, industry sponsors, and other friends of the society who tuned in for learning and networking opportunities from the comfort of their home. The Seminar Planning Committee and CSHP office worked hard to coordinate programs from previous in-person meetings such as continuing education sessions, poster presentations, industry exhibitions, residency showcase, receptions, clinical skills competition, quiz bowl, and more. SBLBSHP would like to recognize our affiliate chapter members who served on the 2020 Seminar Planning Committee: Angela Lee, Cynthia Bennett, Emily Chang, Lisa Gunther, and Michelle Ding. The seminar offered over 70 hours of CE; all sessions were recorded and will be available for streaming for 60 days after the seminar - a definite advantage over in-person meetings where attendees would need to choose one from multiple sessions scheduled at the same time. SBLBSHP would like to recognize our board member, May Mak, who gave a CE presentation titled "Helping the Aging Heart: Use of Direct Oral Anticoagulants in the Geriatric Population." If you missed her presentation, then make sure to check it out on the virtual platform!

A new program for this year's seminar was a virtual happy hour, featuring rotations through Zoom rooms with a mentalist, mixologist, and other interactive activities. Attendees also got to socialize and network through focused chat rooms by practice area and at virtual university receptions. Other engagement pieces included the picture mosaic in the virtual platform lobby, where attendees could upload their own pictures to complete the mosaic, and the Pharmania game, a friendly competition to collect game codes and earn points by participating in seminar events. The most fierce competitions during the conference were among students: clinical skills competition and quiz bowl - both events sponsored by our chapter. SBLBSHP is proud of our student board members, Stephanie Lee and Yen Luu, for being selected to represent their schools in these competitions. The seminar concluded with the virtual House of Delegates on Sunday, October 25th. SBLBSHP would like to recognize the delegates who represented our chapter: John McGady, Jennifer Fong, Michelle Ding, Erwin Jeong, and Angela Jeong. Last but not least, SBLBSHP would like to thank our members who attended this year's seminar. Thank you for staying engaged and for your support! While the virtual seminar was overall successful, CSHP hopes to be able to host an in-person meeting at the Disneyland Resort in 2021. Until then, let's stay safe and healthy and do our part to curb this pandemic. We hope to see you at Disneyland next year!

USC School of Pharmacy Chapter Updates By Ruby Yang, USC School of Pharmacy Student Liaison
CSHP/CPhA Local Association Meet and Greet Every year, our USC student chapter hosts a Local Association Meet and Greet to introduce first year student pharmacists to the various local CSHP and CPhA chapters. This year we continued the tradition virtually, and we were honored by the attendance of many esteemed leaders including Dr. Lisa Gunther, Dr. Steven Thompson, and many more. The event consisted of networking breakout rooms that allowed student pharmacists to speak to leaders from various local chapters and learn more about each chapter’s values and involvement in the pharmacy field. From this event, student pharmacists gained a deeper understanding of the importance of joining local associations in order to empower the pharmacy profession.

USC School of Pharmacy Chapter Updates Continued
Legislative Day On October 23rd, our student chapter hosted USC’s Legislative Day to connect student pharmacists to our local legislative leaders who have impacted our profession through continuous advocacy. This year, despite the pandemic, we hosted our Legislative Day virtually to continue empowering student pharmacists to make a difference as future advocates of the growth of our profession. We were pleased to host distinguished leaders in legislation from ASHP, CSHP, CPhA, and government officials, with the attendance of Dr. Thomas Johnson, Dr. Lisa Gunther, Assemblymember Evan Low, and many more. Through Legislative Day, we have inspired student pharmacists to push for innovations that will not only advance our profession but ultimately shape our systems to improve health outcomes.

Western University Chapter Updates By Shogo Kono and Michelle Tran, WesternU Student Liaisons
On September 15, 2020, our chapter hosted our first-ever virtual Fall Internship Workshop! Each of the hospital interns were split into breakout rooms to create a more intimate environment for participants to ask their questions regarding the experience working in a hospital. They discussed what the main responsibilities of working in an inpatient setting are and the benefits of having an inpatient position. Special thanks again to our wonderful inpatient interns, Chloe Verzosa, Iab Vang, Nalea Trujillo, Shogo Kono, and Leslie Banuelos for sharing their knowledge, experience, and time!
At WesternU’s annual clinical skills competition, student pharmacists had the chance to showcase their knowledge and compete in pairs to solve a patient case. The top three pairs advanced to the second round of the competition, where they presented their findings to the judges. The winning pair moved on to represent WesternU at the state level at CSHP Seminar’s clinical skills competition. This year we had Derick Galan and Kenneth Cruz represent our school.

Western University Chapter Updates Continued
This year, students utilized the platform Zoom for the CSHP Quiz Bowl. Teams were put into breakout rooms for discussions and then answered questions displayed through the quizzing platform, Kahoot! Teams were awarded points based on accuracy and speed. At the end, students had a fun bonus Disney trivia to finish off the event! We would like to congratulate our students who participated and thank them for representing our WesternU CSHP chapter!
At the virtual CSHP seminar this year, current WesternU residents showcased the residency program and shared their experience. Prospective candidates were able to chat one on one to get to know the residents and more about the program.

Chapman University Chapter Updates By Megan Eclevia and Christina Nguyen, Chapman University Student Liaisons
CSHP Seminar: Clinical Skills Competition Winners & Quiz Bowl The Clinical Skills Competition (CSC) included 13 California pharmacy schools with 2 student representatives from each school. Chapman’s representatives were Caroline Sun and Danny Pham. During the competition, only 6 teams move forward to the oral presentation session (final round) where students presented their patient care plan for two minutes, followed by an 8-minute Q&A from the faculty judges from different schools. Caroline and Danny have expressed how helpful working together with Dr. Kang, Dr. Lam, Dr. Tsu, and Dr. Won was, which attributed to their successful win of the 2020 CSHP CSC! They stressed the importance of being confident and addressing the patient’s most urgent problem coherently. They both expressed excitement to compete again in the national competition at ASHP Midyear. The 2020 Seminar Quiz Bowl was hosted virtually using Kahoot and Zoom, and the scoring was based on the team’s correct answers and their response speed. The new format provided an additional level of stress for the team, however, through a collaborative effort Sarah Kantari, Chapman’s team captain, noted the team worked so well together and consistently remained in the top 3 throughout the entire competition.
CSHP Seminar: Music Video Competition Winners This year, our school also won the CSHP Music Video competition in which each school’s submission is pharmacy related and mentions CSHP. The current Chapman executive board officers worked together to create an original music video. Ronald Ramos created the lyrics and rapped the entire song. The video’s criteria was based on originality, creativity, relation to pharmacy, and entertaining. We are honored to have our success on the annual CSHP Music Video Competition perpetual trophy and look forward to seeing the success in the years to come. 12

Chapman University Chapter Updates Continued CV and Residency Workshops Chapman’s CSHP/ASHP-SSHP chapter hosted two Residency and Fellowship informational sessions in September and October. The first Residency and Fellowship session focused on providing students the background and benefits for pursuing residencies and fellowships. Chapman faculty shared their experiences and why they pursued residency and fellowship training. For our second Residency and Fellowship session, we hosted various residents and residency directors from Hoag and Kindred hospitals. They shared their experiences, gave advice and tips, and answered student questions about the residency application process. In September, we hosted a CV workshop. Our advisors were able to help students create or edit their CVs to prepare them for future jobs, residencies, or fellowships.
Outstanding Professional Development Project Award 2020 Our chapter was selected as a recipient of the ASHP-SSHP Outstanding Professional Development Project Award, which recognized our collective effort to promote naloxone education and opioid awareness. Our chapter created an original, educational music video about naloxone and created an awareness campaign to educate the public and communities about this life-saving medication. Chapman University School of Pharmacy is very proud to receive the national recognition by ASHP.
