Long Bridge Veteran Housing at pier 70 is a place for pedestrian life along the San Francisco Bay at the edge of Dogpatch. It is a pedestrian scale development that connects the city to the water’s edge. The warehouses have been abandonded since their heyday, inspiring a sense of adventure into the past. Our proposal for veteran's housing in this once industrial area breaks down the massive scale of the existing warehouses and slipways that separate the city from the water's edge, and brings new life to the historic Long Bridge that once connected the area to downtown San Francisco (1865). As we further developed Long Bridge Veteran Housing, there was an acute awareness of material, natural light, fresh air, with subdivded massing and program, to make the interactions with the building more intimate and personal for the veterans.
