EXHIBITS & EVENTS Alice & William Jenkins Gallery

Crealdé School of Art is a community-based nonprofit art organization established in 1975, featuring an affordable, sequential curriculum of over 100 studio courses and workshops in painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, sculpture and related media for adults and children, with hands-on experience emphasized. Also, Crealdé offers an awardwinning scholarship and outreach program to special populations from the diverse Central Florida community. Our two galleries offer changing multidisciplinary visual art exhibitions by artists from Florida, the nation and the world. The Contemporary Sculpture Grden showcases over 60 outdoor pieces of art.

A limited number of classes are held at the Jessie Brock Community Center in Winter Garden.

Crealdé’s community annex represents a partnership with the City of Winter Park, and pays tribute to the past, present and future contributions of Winter Park’s AfricanAmerican community through a unique collection of historic photographs and oral histories. Established by Crealdé in 2007, the center also features visual art exhibitions and educational programs that explore Southern folklore and cultural preservation. Visit and share an inspiring history told by the people who have lived it! Free admission.

Recognizing established artists from Florida, the nation and beyond

Through January 31 Visionary Bill Jenkins: Crealdé Founder, Artist and Philanthropist

As a kickoff to Crealdé’s 40th anniversary, we remember late founder William Sterling Jenkins (1909-1996) in a two-gallery presentation. Trained as an artist in Europe and Mexico in the 1930s, he produced a body of landscape and portrait paintings influenced by the places he traveled to as a young man, and the changing cultural landscape of his native American South. Exhibit is also on display at the Hannibal Square Heritage Center.

Exploring heritage and folklore through the visual arts and humanities

February 6 – May 23 From the Bronx to Florida: The Life Sculptures of Rigoberto Torres

Puerto Rican-born sculptor Rigoberto Torres worked in New York City for two decades before moving to Kissimmee, where he currently lives and works. Seen and collected throughout the world, Torres’ colorful life-size plaster and fiberglass figurative sculptures are rooted in a celebration of daily life in the South Bronx neighborhood where he grew up. His work, described as “humanistic naturalism,” provides sensitive studies of real people — family, friends, neighborhood heroes and strangers he has met during public castings. The twogallery exhibition begins with an opening reception and gallery talk with Rigoberto Torres at 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in the Jenkins Gallery on the Crealdé main campus, and continues with reception featuring Latin jazz from 8:30-10 p.m. at the Hannibal Square Heritage Center. Exhibit is also on display at Crealdé’s Alice & William Jenkins Gallery on the main campus.

This exhibition features the recent work of artists from Crealdé’s diverse faculty, including artists long associated with the school as well as new additions.

The mediums include photography, painting,

January — May, 2015 drawing, ceramics, sculpture and textiles. For four decades, the Crealdé faculty of over 40 working artists has represented some of Central Florida’s most influential arts educators and accomplished artists.

The opening reception will be held in conjunction with A Night of Fire, 5-8 p.m. Saturday, January 17.

Special Events December 6 and 7 15th Annual Crealdé Holiday Sale

Established and emerging Central Florida artists exhibit their arts and crafts along the shores of Lake Sterling in the sculpture garden, including chiefly pottery, as well as sculpture, paintings, jewelry, prints and photographs.

The Photography Department will have a Studio Sale with equipment, accessories and photographs by the late Rick Lang. Also the Front Office will be open to register for classes. Food trucks. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.4 p.m. Sunday at the Crealdé main campus, Winter Park.

January 17 Fourth Annual A Night of Fire at Crealdé

Tour Crealdé’s studios and galleries, participate in workshops and demonstrations including a bronze pour, the gas kiln firing and raku firing. The Front Office will be open to register for classes. Enjoy live music, refreshments and storytelling around the fire.

March 7 Fifth Annual Crealdé Free Family Festival

Join in a day of hands-on art, activities and exploration, including pony rides, face-painting, a bounce house and refreshments. Get a jump on registration for Summer ArtCamp (open to ages 4 and older) and receive a oneday-only special discount. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the Crealdé main campus and sculpture gardens.

March 28 Sixth Annual Hannibal Square Heritage Center Folk & Urban Art Festival

The festival celebrates the works of more than 25 artists, including members of the original Florida Highwaymen and the B Side Artists collective. A highlight will be the creation of a lifecast by exhibiting Crealdé artist Rigoberto Torres of Richard Hall, Hannibal Square hero and Tuskegee Airman. Featured music: the Porchdogs Cajun and Zydeco Band and Orisi Risi African Folklore.

A “Kid-folk” workshop offers “The Aztec Encounter and Musical Parade.” Food trucks will be serving. Admission is free. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Crealdé’s Hannibal Square Heritage Center, downtown Winter Park.

Instructor: Vincent Sansone Winter Friday, 1:30–3:30 p.m., 6 weeks Studio 4 Learn traditional raku firing and other post-reduction techniques. The first four meetings will be spent making pieces for the firings. Some handbuilding skills are needed. Besides the traditional raku firing method, we also will explore fuming and horsehair finishing techniques. Come and learn this exciting firing method with instant results.

Studio 6 Explore a variety of mold making techniques in creating small sculpture works. Students will create molds out of clay, plaster, low temperature wax, alginate and latex. All materials are included in the cost of the class.

Instructor: David Cumbie Winter & Spring Monday, 7:30–9:30 p.m.

Studio 6 Wednesday, 10 a.m.–noon Studio 6 Students will work in clay, plaster, paper clay, paint and an unlimited range of multimedia materials. This class focuses on methods that do not require kiln firing. Most materials will be supplied, but students are encouraged to bring in objects to include in the compositions.

Problem-solving and discovering new materials and techniques will be a part of each class. Bronze casting and welding will be offered with the approval of the instructor. Students will furnish their own materials.
