Director’s Note

JULY | AUGUST 2016

What Will You Discover at the Library? When I talk with individuals or groups about the Library, I often hear the response “Wow, the Library has so many amazing resources!” The Library is a rich resource for information, education and entertainment. The July – August 2016 Programming and Events Calendar offers a window into the many programs and events we will be offering. However, that is only part of the many resources that are available at your Library. During the course of this summer you will see a number different ways in which the Library is seeking to raise awareness about the resources and events that are available at your Library. If you have not seen the Library’s commercial, I invite you to watch it: youtube.com/youranswerplacestch In addition to the many books, magazines, DVDs and CDs the library has to offer, there is a wealth of digital and streaming materials available. The best place to begin exploring is at: youranswerplace.org/elibrary. The A to Z list, youranswerplace.org/electronicatoz, provides access to tools and resources which can help you in such areas as investment (Mergent and Morningstar), genealogical research (Ancestry and HeritageQuest), as well as topics such as business, online learning, consumer health and a host of other areas. I hope you will take a few moments to explore some of these resources. If you have not signed up for this year’s Summer Reading Program “On Your Mark, Get Set… Read” there is still time. You can sign up online at youranswerplace.org/summerreading. We have programs for all ages and it is a great way for families to read together. What will you discover at the Library? Visit us online or at any of our branch locations and prepare to be amazed. The St. Charles City-County Library District – your place to Dream, Discover, Connect and Grow!

Jim Brown, Library Director Since their oldest child was a toddler, the Fleming family has walked, biked, run and pushed babies in strollers to the Kisker Road Branch. The family, which now includes mom, dad, 4 boys and 2 girls, are familiar faces at the Library. One evening when the four boys and their dad Gerard were visiting the Library, Gerard shared this story with Kisker Road Branch Paraprofessional, Lisa Kimmel. Recently, when the family was out for an evening stroll around the neighborhood, Gerard and his wife Susan were pondering out loud the idea of moving to another neighborhood. Overhearing their conversation, their oldest son Jack very firmly proclaimed, “No, if we didn’t live here by the Library, I wouldn’t love reading so much!”
