Editors Letter The warmer months have now arrived, longer days and balmy nights are upon us. In 2019 the warmer weather also brought with it the unfamiliar sight and smell of bushfires. As we head into the warmest part of the year, the landscape this time of year is unusually dry. Every year, for the last 16 years my husband and I, and now with our three children in tow, make the trip west to his hometown of Goondiwindi. One thing you notice when you take the same road trip each time of year, is the success of the season or in this case, the lack of rain. You notice the same paddocks and the same creeks are either brimming with feed or sit dry and idol. Cattle and sheep look healthy and strong or poor and light in weight. The same fields are a sea of green and gold, sown with corn and wheat or sit empty and dry waiting for the rain to arrive. The idea of taking a road trip every couple of months, for me, keeps us a family connected to the Australian landscape and the rural communities who reside there. It’s my kind of escape and as most parents could relate, I would much rather inspect the landscapes and the agriculture then spend hours in transit with three very tired children. Fortunately for both my husband and I, we have done our fair share of international travel so for us at this point in our lives, the ultimate holiday is an adventurous road trip in the lucky country. This year we will be supporting local in the Scenic Rim and in this edition, I invite you to do the same. Each page will have you making notes of where to visit next. Whether you travel by car or by bike, our interview with young motorbike rider Shelby Turner (Page 10) ignites a sense of adventure. My recommendation is to start each trip with an early morning walk at one of the many national parks, you can visit parks.des.qld.gov.au to plan your walk. Or take the family to one of the newly renovated Scenic Rim Regional Council parks – Canungra, Tamborine Mountain, Beaudesert and Aratula are now fun and interactive spaces for children and adults alike.
After your active start to the day why not head into the main street of the nearest village. There you will find a hive of activity within the shopping and café culture. The local markets or fruit and veg shops are a great way to pick up fresh local produce and supplies. In this edition we also met with the Pack family from Mountview Alpaca Farm (Page 26). What a great way to spend a day cuddling, feeding and relaxing with alpacas. We also made the trip to Cedar Creek Lodges (Page 22), their newly renovated self contained studios are a perfect getaway for families or groups. Each village or town in the Scenic Rim is within an easy 30 minute drive to the next. Even in the warmer months the wineries within the region are offering new menus and perfectly chilled wines. The Overflow Estate 1895 (Page 40) is just a few minutes drive west of Beaudesert. It offer visitors a mix of premium wines, fresh Summer dining on the waters edge of Wyaralong Dam and modern architecture. Another great winery outing is the Kooroomba Winery and Lavender Farm (Page 46), just a short drive from Boonah. The incredible fine dining menu and premium wines can be enjoyed in the air conditioned restaurant with views to the glorious mountain ranges and beyond. And finally if you are looking for a winery that meets every ones needs, then head to Cedar Creek Estate Winery (Page 36) on Tamborine Mountain. The park like surrounds and glow worm tours will keep the family active and entertained for hours. My final recommendation for the warmer months, is to enjoy a get together with family and friends in the relaxed atmosphere of a BBQ setting. What’s better than our own backyard? Head to our Long Lunch food feature to enjoy fresh cocktail recipes and locally sourced produce.

Scenic Rim spirit rises above bushfires A letter from Mayor Greg Christensen
Disaster should never define us. My belief is that life will throw all sorts of challenges at us from time to time. For some people, those events define their future, while other people maintain control of their future and manage the impacts.
people to visit, there is still amazing food to enjoy, and there is still a warm welcome for all who visit.
I believe this region has made the choice to define its own future. What I've seen, rising out of the Binna Burra fire, is a passion and an enthusiasm and a vision to create something even more amazing and spectacular and celebratory of our wilderness than ever before.
The support of the state and the federal government in various ways has been welcomed. Focusing on taking our newly-embraced brand to the world, the Welcome to the Richest Place on Earth, In Australia campaign really defines what we have to offer.
And I've seen people who've grasped the challenge of fighting fire and turned immediately to the focus of rebuilding as community. Their first concern has been for their neighbours, and for those further afield who are worse off. That to me speaks of the character of our region.
It sets an exciting focus for everyone to lift their eyes and see beyond today. For those who are visiting, it sends a message that when you visit the Scenic Rim, you visit a place that will change your life forever.
Our regional economy has taken some pain, and this has had a real impact on real people and real jobs. But collectively we have stood up and said, "we're here, we still offer an incredible opportunity, we still offer a spectacular setting". So little of our region has been directly touched by the scars of fire. There is still a spectacular backdrop for
And initiatives like the Buy from the Bush Christmas markets at Tommerup's and many other markets and events across the Scenic Rim are examples of businesses from across our region coming together to rebuild.
Nowhere else has the unique blend of spectacular hilltops and valleys, incredible produce and producers and incredibly unique and enthralling communities that we do. This complete package creates a place you come once as a visitor and return forever as family. Cr Greg Christensen Mayor Scenic Rim Regional Council

SHELBY TURNER
With two generations of riders behind her and growing up with three brothers, Shelby Turner tells us...
“I was never not going to ride – it’s in my blood.” What is your first memory on a bike? Hooking around our back paddock on a red Honda 3 wheeler barely out of nappies. You’re 28 years old, how old were you when you first started competing? I was 5 when I had my first race and 6 when I won my first state title. Dirt bikes or road bikes, you love them both right? What is it about them individually that you love? Yes my whole life it’s always been dirt for me. From racing flat track to speedway sidecars then a little enduro and recently motocross and Super Moto - I’ve always felt at home on a dirtie. My dirt bike riding/ racing usually consists of me pinning it until I either win it or bin it. ha ha. I bought my first road bike 3 years ago and was racing in the National Championship the very next year. Most people assume riding motorbikes is all the same but I find every discipline very different from the next. The thing I love about the road is, to be fast, you have to be smooth, calm and consistent. Completely different to how I’ve grown up racing on the dirt. This is why I love it, it’s a different sort of challenge and going that fast is so exciting! Plus believe it or not, less injuries! You recently sold your hairdressing business in Canungra, which you ran for 9 years. Can you tell us how owning a business in the Scenic Rim complimented your lifestyle and love of bikes? One of the hardest decisions I’ve made was to sell my business. I love the Scenic Rim, Canungra in particular. The people, the atmosphere and the best part, riding my scrambler to and from work every day. The windy roads made the daily commute exciting. I eventually decided to sell as I found it difficult to be a business owner as well as travel the country racing. In saying that, being in the Scenic Rim, I was amongst some of the best riding venues in the county. Racing my Cube Performance Centre Ninja 400 at some of the local road racing championships as well as training on my RMZ 450 SuperMoto at Gap Creek Moto Park - all a stones throw from home!
What have been your biggest achievements and wins on dirt and road? I have a number of state titles under my belt from when I was younger racing dirt track, which are all very memorable for me. The feeling of being the only girl in my class and beating all the boys is pretty cool. More recently I won my first road race - best thing about that was it was at the Australian Championships, in front of a huge crowd with all of my family there. I’ll never forget that moment.
Most people assume riding motorbikes is all the same but I find every discipline very different from the next. The thing I love about the road is, to be fast, you have to be smooth, calm and consistent. Completely different to how I’ve grown up racing on the dirt.”
friends and most importantly it has moulded me into the brave, fearless and independent woman I am today. Just goes to show girls can do it too, and sometimes we can do it better! I would love to see more young girls rippin on bikes in the future. What is your all time favourite dirt bike and road bike? I’ve always had a thing for KTMs - I currently train on a SXF250. I’ve had it for 7 years Ive even named him Karl. Since starting my new job at Cube Performance Centre and working amongst Ducatis, I’ve decided they are my now my fav! Hopefully I can twist a few arms and get a lap on a Ducati Superbike next year! If you could ride your bike any where in the world, where would you want to ride? And who would you want to race? I actually don’t mind where I’m riding, so long as my bum is in the seat I’m happy. Although I’m thinking of racing my mate Emma Mcferran, around Vietnam at some stage next year! What does a perfect weekend look like for Shelby Turner?
Camping in the Scenic Rim! I absolutely love going away with the bikes and sleeping under the stars in my I’ve had the last 18 months recovering from a bad motocross swag. Having a bonfire and a cold beer after riding all accident where I broke my humorous quite severley. After day is just bloody unreal. 2 surgeries, lots of rehab and practise back on the bike I’m excited to see where 2020 takes me. I’ve always wanted to hit a FMX ramp - so will see. What are your future plans and aspirations for riding?
What type of training and preparation is involved to get competition ready? Well of course it helps to be fit and strong to race, weighing 48kg doesn’t do me any favours. I try to stay ‘bike fit’ as much as possible. The more training on the bike I get in, the less my body hurts after a race. I prefer to get a 3-4 hour moto in one day a week then go to the gym for an hour 3-4 days a week. Would you recommend parents look at dirt bike riding as a hobby for their kids? I think every young kid needs a passion/hobby. For us it was racing. I never had the best bike or the flashiest moto gear but I had the best childhood ever. Motorbikes gave me something to look forward to, something to be passionate about, something to work hard for, its given me life long

WHAT’S NEW AT
My Country Escape
Michelle Roper-Dennis is known for not doing anything by halves. Her beautiful boutique in Canungra is packed to the rafters with new and exciting stock. Whether you are a local or a regular visitor to the Scenic Rim, you will never leave Michelle’s shop as a despondent shopper. For those who love linens and cool trans-seasonal fashion, the boutique stocks well known Australian and New Zealand fashion brands such as Humidity and Holiday. On the home front, the homewares section has really exploded in popularity, stocking baskets, rugs, pillows and candles, Michelle says she is constantly having to re-plenish this popular segment within her store.
“I love finding the new and exciting brands… coupled with my go-to favourites on the shelves and fashion racks, it allows our customers to feel as though we have continuity in our products but also fresh new ideas, especially in giftware and homewares.” Hats, sunglasses, jewellery, handbags along with seasonal clothing, giftware, homeware and personal care items – there’s not much this boutique doesn’t cover. And stay tuned for new and exciting improvements in 2020… Michelle hints that shoppers will be guaranteed a country shopping experience that will rival rural destinations from around the country. ALPACA FARM The Pack family: Steve, Jen, Shania and Jordan are pushing the “small family business boundaries, developing new initiatives in both tourism and animal therapy and placing loads of smiles on dials along the way.
Not surprisingly most people are familiar with an Alpaca punch line - What did the farmer say when he was invited on a short-notice trip? Alpaca my bags! What is surprising is how long these furry friends have been working along side families in both agriculture and tourism. The Alpaca Farm here in Canungra has been operating for around a quarter of a century, and was purchased by owners Jen and Steve about 10 years ago. Originally located in the Green Mountains section of Lamington National Park, not far from O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat. After Cyclone Debbie hit the region in 2017, an opportunity arose to relocate the Alpaca Farm to the O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards. A great decision made by default the business now offers visitors a great experience, from the winery and the restaurant to the cuddling and feeding of alpacas. Steve also tells us the new program they have recently embarked on which involves a community aspect. “We regularly take alpacas to several local hospitals, including Beaudesert, Logan, Princess Alexandria and Royal Queensland Children’s Hospital. The reaction of the hospital patients is what this program is really all about. Bringing moments of joy to otherwise difficult times for medical staff and patients alike.” Steve goes on to explain a few more additions that have come from the idea of Alpacas for therapy. “We have also recently purchased a 54 seat coach, dubbed “The No Probllama Bus” which is an extension of the therapy alpaca program. This allows us to bring groups of as many as 50 people at a time, from local aged care facilities to the farm for some fresh air and alpaca experiences. We are hoping to setup a Not for Profit Organisation in the next 12 months to
help raise funds to expand the alpaca therapy program and to help us reach more people who need to get out from their hospital beds.”The No Probllama Bus” will also be available for Corporate groups, student groups or clubs who are looking for an easy, fun and hassle free day out. With Shania and Jordan, Steve and Jen have made Mountview Alpaca Farm more than just a tourist attraction, it’s about creating amazing memories for your family and friends. From their family to yours, you are guaranteed to leave with a smile on your dial. Being that Mountview is located inside the grounds of O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards, the business is able to offer a delightful mix of experiences, perfectly matched for the entire family. A light hearted getaway, a romantic day out or a picnic with the Alpacas for a family birthday or celebration. A particular favourite has become the “Alpaca Proposal”. Jen tell us “Many a prospective bride or groom have enlisted the help of Ed Sheeran (the alpaca) as their wingman to pop the question, who currently boasts a 100% success rate. How could anyone say no?” Entry to Mountview Alpaca Farm is free and the Alpaca giftshop has something for everybody, from socks and scarves to furry alpaca toys. Open 7 days. Stephanie from Rambling Rose, a gorgeous little pop up bar available for hire and private events, made sure our glasses were kept full. While Bronwyn from Scenic Rim Bride took to styling our BBQ themed long lunch, keeping those summer vibes fresh and relaxed. With our team of photographers and creatives who joined us on the day, we took time to enjoy the best of what this lifestyle has to offer. Fresh local food and amazing company in a wonderful location. How lucky we are to work and play in the Scenic Rim.

Roasted grape & sage salad with goat’s fetta
A favourite summer salad! Light, sweet and salty, the sugars in the grapes caramelise making this salad a delicious accompaniment to fresh seafood or BBQ lamb or pork chops.
Ingredients
Method
50 or so large seedless purple grapes, cut in half (can be substituted with 2 whole peaches or nectarines)
Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Approx. 20gm sage leaves and stems. Lightly hand torn (or any strong herb such as rosemary or Thyme) 50ml olive oil Salt & pepper 150gm Roasted capsicum (optional) 130gm Assorted green salad leaves and soft herbs eg. Rocket, spinach, flat leaf parsley, mint, nasturtium, basil. 100gm of goat’s chevre or fetta Toasted chopped almonds, pecans or pine nuts Salad flowers from nasturtium, basil, rocket, parsley, society garlic or violets.
Dressing: 60ml red wine, apple cider or brown malt vinegar 60ml Good olive or flax seed oil 1 tbsp Dijon mustard ½ tsp. sugar or honey Ground Black pepper
In a bowl add the cut grapes (or peaches), torn herbs, olive oil, and season with salt and pepper. Scatter the fruit mix in a single layer on a paper lined biscuit or pizza tray and roast in the oven for approx. 30 minutes until lightly coloured and dehydrated looking. Set aside to cool. Tip all your dressing ingredients and the herby oil and juices from the fruit baking tray, into a clean jar and shake well until the sugar dissolves. Taste check for seasoning. Measure your salad greens out into a large dressing bowl (not your presentation serving platter) add your roasted fruit and capsicum if using and 5 minutes before serving at the table, ¾ of the dressing. Toss the lot and coat well with dressing. Pile your green salad onto a flat platter or serving board with low sides (so the dressing liquid doesn’t go everywhere). Pretty it up by pulling some of the fruit and capsicum to the surface, hand crumble the goat’s cheese over the top, decorate and garnish with nuts and flowers. Spoon over the remaining dressing to make the whole salad glisten and sing.

Read BLACK & WHITE BRAID The Black & White Braid is a fully-illustrated book, photographic exhibition, and podcast about the history, present, and future of the Scenic Rim, born from a unique perspective – walking along the roads of the region and recording the stories of both people and place. The title alludes to the intertwining of our region’s Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, the fact that we are all connected - not just by the black and white roads - but through history, through stories, through the place we share. From the geological layering that has shaped the region, to the layering of its inhabitants - from the Ugarapul, Mununjali and Wangerriburra people through to the modern residents - this is a project centred on people; how we make a place...and in turn how the place makes us. During August and September, author Benjamin Allmon and photographer Carin Garland walked over 650km for 30 consecutive days in order to capture not only the stories of the region, but to become a part of the land, not apart from it. Over the course of their journey over 100 residents volunteered their time, knowledge, and stories – from 4th generation farmers to Indigenous elders, from South Sea Islanders to forest rangers; women and men of all ages doing the best they can, sometimes under extreme circumstances.
“Our journey took us through drought-stricken, fire-ravaged country, where we’ve witnessed the worst of times, and the best in the people that are living through them,” Allmon says. “This project began as an attempt to chronicle history, how we got to where we are as a region…but as we walked, what became equally important was a snapshot of what is happening now. Whether that is in the farming community, the spiritual community, the Indigenous community, the South Sea Islander community, or in the towns, mountain resorts, and forgotten corners of the Scenic Rim…what we have encountered is the human spirit at its best. “Without exception, Carin and I have been welcomed into people’s lives with open arms and a generosity of spirit that leaves us humbled. It is a privilege to be doing this project.” The Black & White Braid book, exhibition, and podcast will be launched at The Centre in Beaudesert on July 24th 2020, and the exhibition will run until October 7th. @theblackandwhitebraid @caringarlandphoto www.caringarland.com www.benjaminallmon.com

KOOROOMBA Vineyard, Lavender Farm & Kitchen Expect spectacular views, stunning architecture, premium wines and contemporary Australian cuisine. This unique culmination of characteristics places Kooroomba Vineyard & Lavender Farm at the forefront of the food tourism sector, not just in the Scenic Rim or South East Queensland, but Australia or quite possibly the world. Head Executive Chef Daniel Groneberg, with 30 years experience, leads the team . His menu draws upon European career highlights which include a training stint in the Black Forest, located in Germany’s south (between Switzerland and France) followed by many years working along side world renowned Chef’s at the Hilton hotels and other restaurants around the world. Some things can’t be fabricated and when arriving in the Scenic Rim you will find the region lives up to its name. When looking for a special dining experience then this is where the sensory pleasantries will begin - Kooroomba Vineyard & Lavender Farm offers a boutique dining experience in the most exceptional surrounds. It must be acknowledged that the architecture of this building is something to behold. Built in 2002 and designed by leading architect company Wilson Architect – this 17-year-old building is as impressive now as it was back then. Combined textures of concrete, stone and timber with high peak roof lines, wide expanses of glass, take in long
views to the mountain ranges, set over 6 hectares of vineyard and lavender - these elements all working in fine synergy to one another. A truly unique setting to enjoy premium wines and fresh Australian produce. Greeted by the warm smile of Samantha Bloch, the Maitre D of Kooroomba Vineyard & Lavender Farm. We are then served a selection of chilled house wines by the lovely Tracey. The Kooroomba Rose, Kooroomba Alba and the Kooroomba Chardonnay. And in the comfort of the airconditioned dining room, overlooking the lavender and out to the mountain range - we meet with Executive Head Chef Daniel. We chat about the menu and ask which menu items are his favourites - he tells us this is a very difficult question to answer - “it’s like asking someone to pick their favourite child” he says with a laugh “I really do love them all.” So to start our culinary adventure Chef brings to the table a selection of entrees – the Homemade Duck Liver Pate, the Pan Seared Scallops (GF), and Beetroot and Pea Risotto (GF) with Towri sheep Pecorino and fresh herbs. The wines all working exceptionally well with the collection of flavours that Chef and his team have mastered. We are then served a selection of mains - Dukkah Crusted Neundorf Farming Pork Belly, Glazed Brisbane Valley Quail (GF), honey-orange duck breast (GF). We ask Chef where

he draws his inspiration from - Daniel tell us the Scenic Rim has world class produce and he is passionate of being reflective of that. “We really try to encourage all suppliers, big or small, to work with us and in some cases develop new products for us that they can then sell to the public and expand their own portfolio of products.” And finally we get to the deserts… The signature lavender Ice cream always a crowd pleaser and favourite amongst diners – with locals and tourists enjoying this menu staple on hot days with a light lunch or cold drink. But today we sample the Toasted Coconut Panna Cotta (GF) - With spiced poached pear and pear syrup and the Lemon Curd Brulee (GF) - With Finger Lime mint syrup and chilli glass, fresh strawberries. As we graze our way through this exciting contemporary Australian menu, one thing becomes significantly clear, the level of skill and application reflect a fine dining experience however the portion sizes and the chosen use of flavours lean more toward a focus of local seasonal produce and a hearty “fill your belly” country style offerings. The end result is an extremely satisfying dining experience, set in a stunning location – served up by passionate master foodies, who love supporting their community and local farmers. PIZZA & PASTA We chat with Michael Wickson owner of Tamborine Mountain Pizza, about the opening of his second restaurant Tamborine Mountain Pasta. Located on the same street, the two restaurants are only a couple doors down from each other. How long have you been in the pizza /pasta business? I began working for the previous owner of TM pizza in 1998 while studying before purchasing the business in 2013 What made you want to start the Pasta shop with Michael as Manager? As the pizza business grew, I no longer had adequate space to continue selling both pizza and pasta. Not wanting to move premises having been there for so long I decided to focus on just pizzas until a suitable location was available. Michael Shutte brings a great wealth of experience to our team and was the first choice to manage the restaurant. Being a local and having worked at various establishments around the mountain he is a recognisable and trusted face with locals bringing a great level of professionalism and hospitality. What does Chef Brad bring to the table at Michael’s pasta? Likewise, Brad has much experience across the mountain. He comes from a family of business owners and grew up in hospitality which means he has the perfect balance of creativity and a practical approach to running a kitchen. IMAGES CARIN GARLAND
How many people in your team between the two shops? We currently employ around a dozen locals between the two shops ranging from Juniors, seniors and full-time staff. When people visit your restaurants, what would be the ideal experience? The aim with both restaurants is do things simply but with an eye for detail. We prefer to keep our menus small but focus on quality both in the menu and fitouts to provide an experience beyond the standard takeaway but with an affordability for all. Do you use local produce? Sure do. All our fresh produce comes from local suppliers. Joseph the Grocers on Main St and Eagle Heights Butchery. Many of our other ingredients we import from Italy for authenticity. Coolibah Springs After 7 years in the spring water industry, Canungra locals Bruce and Wendy Post decided to start their own company and established Coolibah Springs in 2012. Now, you could say Bruce is not your average water boy – he’s an enviable thinker – a concepts man always looking to improve and value add. His idea behind supplying lamb treats on their deliveries to the canine members of the family are a big hit; he now has his own line of lamb treats for dogs which customers can also have delivered – along with their spring water. With the unwavering support from his wife Wendy, their business has continued to succeed and grow.
“We are a testament that the little guy can make it, I truly believe the community gets better service and better products with the added bonus of their money staying local.” The topic of water quality and recycling are the two main drivers for people wishing to receive reliable spring water delivered to their door. “I think wastage, especially plastic, is becoming increasingly concerning to people and authorities. Also, a lot of people don’t feel 100% comfortable drinking town or tank water and so buy small bottles from the supermarkets but then are left with the inherent problem of plastic.“
“Our 15L re-fill bottles of pure, natural spring water and cooler or well system solves the concerns around packaging, wastage and water quality plus it also eliminates the inconvenience of having to remember to buy water on the weekly shop and then lug it home”. Coolibah Springs services residential homes, offices and businesses throughout South East Queensland. “Most commercial operators run their consumption of office drinking water through their business as a tax deduction. It’s a great way to keep staff hydrated and stay happy (and therefore more productive) at work. It’s also nice to offer customers great tasting cool spring water on hot days.”
Coolibah Springs are offering all new clients 2 x 15 litre bottles free with their first order. And for the first 10 customers to take up the offer, will also receive a water cooler, rent free. Some of Australia’s best chefs and food industry leaders awarded the Scenic Rim most Outstanding Region for its authentic local food movement, underpinned by the highly successful Scenic Rim Eat Local Week initiative. Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said the award was well-deserved recognition. “The small team behind Scenic Rim Eat Local Week have been trailblazers in the local food space, working closely with the amazing local food and beverage producers of the Scenic Rim to create this grass roots movement which is just so real and so effective,” he said. But the Scenic Rim did not stop there. Not long after winning Australia’s Most Outstanding region, Eat Local Week was nationally recognised for driving the local economy. Scenic Rim Eat Local Week 2018 won the ‘Economic Development Single Event or Activity’ category at the National Economic Development Awards. The Scenic Rim Regional Council outshone a record number of entries from across Australia to win the award. Council’s submission was based on 2018 Scenic Rim Eat Local
Week, which attracted 40,000 people to the region and contributed more than $2 million to the local economy. Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said the win reinforced the clear value of the region’s food and drink industries. “Eat Local Week has grown from about four or five events when it started in 2010 to a program of 90 events, and this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of all the people who visit the Scenic Rim during Eat Local Week each year to make it worth our while,” he said.
“We thank each and every one of those visitors for the value they have brought to our region. Make sure you come back to help us celebrate the 10th anniversary of Eat Local Week in 2020!” Local dairy farmer and agritourism leader Kay Tommerup of Tommerup’s Dairy Farm said being part of the Scenic Rim was invaluable. “The actual movement of Eat Local, beyond Eat Local Week, is huge for all of us. The publicity and the recognition that we have gained over the years means that we now have an audience of chefs and cafes and all those people who’ll come to us directly,” she said. “The Scenic Rim brand really stands for something, and collectively we offer an authentic, character-filled experience through the food of our region.”
SAVE THE DATE Scenic Rim Eat Local Week will celebrate its 10th anniversary from 27 June - 5 July 2020. For more information visit www.eatlocalweek.com.au

BENDIGO BANK In 2012, a volunteer steering committee of 16 local business owners, individuals and community members was formed and tasked with raising awareness of the Bendigo Bank Community Bank model. After gathering the required support, the Community Bank company now known as the Canungra & District Community Financial Group Ltd was formed. This is a community owned company that feeds into the prosperity of the community, not from it. The Canungra & District Community Branch of Bendigo Bank has just recently celebrated its 3rd birthday. So far, the model has proven to be exactly what our local community needed, a partnership that provides much needed funding, sponsorships and tangible support to community groups and organisations, whilst providing much needed local banking services and facilities. It’s a win-win!
“Imagine a bank that gives back to the community, enables you to bank at competitive rates and is community owned.” The Bendigo Bank Community Bank model is that, however, to remain successful and supportive of the community we need the continued and growing support of the community – I urge you to not only Be the Change, but also take to the time to See the Change your banking can make” – Janine Rockliff, Chairperson.
CANUNGRA
Besides the financial support the branch can provide, the staff and (volunteer) Board of Directors are available to help out at community events; there is a Community eftpos machine available to use, a marquee that can be borrowed and if you want the Bendigo Bank mascot “Piggy” to generate some fun for the kids, you can book in an appearance! The Canungra & District Bendigo Bank Branch team, led by Branch Manager Vanessa Skinner, are extremely friendly and are more than happy to have a chat to see how they can help you reach your financial goals. The staff can help with all your banking needs including: personal banking, term deposits, all types of loans, credit cards, house/boat/ car/travel/investment property insurance, business accounts, plant and equipment finance – the list goes on. The branch is open Monday-Friday from 9.30am until 4.30pm and open Saturday mornings from 9.00am until Midday. 07 5543 5773 www.bendigobank.com.au/canungra
