Key Development Milestones

Scenic Eclipse II entered the water for the first time, marked by a ‘float out’ ceremony at the 3. maj shipyard in Croatia on June 25, 2022. The process of managing the construction of the vessel is led by MKM Yachts, a division of Scenic Group. This was an important milestone, signalling the near completion of the structural build.

July – September 2022 - Interior Outfitting

The interior design of Scenic Eclipse II took several months to complete, with teams and designers from around the world working on the project to deliver a 6-star, ultra-luxury ambiance across all interior spaces.

December 2022 - Systems in near completion

Work on the electronic installations and other ship systems near completion and the main engine start up is in progress, in preparation for the sea trials in mid-February 2023.

October 2022 - Build Progress

Scenic Eclipse II has been designed and built to the highest standards for unrestricted global navigation. As we continued to make excellent progress with the construction process ahead of the Discovery Yacht’s scheduled launch, luxurious enhancements were made to best equip this ground-breaking ship for immersive explorations to even the most remote destinations on Earth – including new itineraries in Australia, Indonesia, the Pacific, New Zealand, East Antarctica and the Ross Sea.

Scenic Eclipse Christening

Scenic Eclipse Christening with Dame Helen Mirren

On September 10, 2019, following the much-anticipated launch of Scenic Eclipse, we held her spectacular christening in New York City. Heralding a new and exceptional era in ocean cruising, the official ceremony took place at Pier 88, Manhattan Cruise Terminal, set against the world-famous Manhattan skyline.

Joining Scenic for the ceremony was our very special guest, and Scenic Eclipse’s Godmother, Dame Helen Mirren, along with her husband, Academy Award-winning director Taylor Hackford. They were welcomed on board by Scenic Group owner Glen Moroney and his wife, Karen, who gave them a VIP tour of the yacht.

Reflecting the ship’s stylish and exclusive ethos, the official naming ceremony was attended by over 350 global media bodies, agents and VIPS who witnessed Dame Helen Mirren christen the ship dockside by breaking the ceremonial bottle of champagne against the hull and bestowing the traditional blessing of safekeeping over all those that sail in her.

“I was thrilled to be invited to take on the role of Scenic Eclipse Godmother, even more so now that I have stepped aboard and seen the level of design detail and technology that have gone into her creation. She is an exceptional cruising experience, and I’m honored to have christened her. I wish her crew and guests many years of sailing adventures and discovery”.

Scenic Eclipse Cherish the Planet

Our Commitment to a Sustainable Future

At Scenic, we aim to reduce our environmental impact and help to build a more sustainable way of living and doing business. Your journey with us will be one with a difference, respecting the natural ecosystems and local communities that call each region home.

In a commitment to providing a cleaner, greener, safer river cruising experience, we’re transforming the way we travel by implementing environmentally conscious initiatives both on board and onshore. We believe that this care for the environment, this desire to preserve the Earth, is a deeper underlying value of what we do and what we, as a company, stand for. It is at the core of who we are.

Scenic Eclipse was designed and built to meet or exceed all current and expected environment standards.

The vessel is equipped with the latest technology and is managed in accordance with best practice ensuring all processes have minimal environmental impact. Scenic Eclipse is certified Polar Class 6-designed and built to the latest uncompromising standards for ships operating in polar waters.

Key Highlights:

On board Scenic Eclipse we have eliminated the use of all single-use plastic and replaced them with sustainable alternatives. Each suite will come with a water bottle per guest, for use on excursions and to take home. We’ve swapped our washing detergents for eco-friendly variations to restrict our use of harmful chemicals, pollutants, and toxins

In a steadfast commitment to reducing kitchen waste, our main courses will be served from the galley and a food shredder has been installed to compact any left-over food waste.

The advanced Azipod propulsion system minimizes noise and vibration to reduce disturbance to marine life, as well as improving manoeuvrability and reducing fuel consumption. GPS Dynamic Positioning allows the ship to maintain position without the use of an anchor, thus protecting the sea floor. Wastewater is treated using a membrane biological reactor before being discharged.

Advanced HVAC System extracts external air to treat and filter before it is delivered through the ship then extracted with no recirculation.

The lightest grade of marine fuel is used on board, reducing sulphur emissions by up to 95%.

Where available and feasible, the ship is equipped to plug into onshore power networks which allows it to primarily run off the electrical grid and not generators, which reduces emissions.

FUN FACT

We’re using 97% less sulphur vs heavy fuel oils by using the lowest sulphur grade fuel on all vessels where possible.
