Supply Lists & Fees SUPPLY LISTS: Lists are provided at registration. Students must purchase items on their own and bring to class. SUPPLY FEES: Fees payable directly to the instructor at the first class for hard-to-find or expensive items that the instructor has easy access to and can usually purchase in bulk for a lesser price. Sometimes an instructor will provide both a supply list and charge a supply fee. In the class descriptions, SF = Supply Fee.

Policies REFUND POLICY: Students who withdraw 7 days or more prior to class receive a full refund less the $10 process fee. Students who withdraw 2-7 days prior to class receive a credit voucher for a future class less the $10 process fee and a $15 drop fee. Refunds or vouchers are not available to students who withdraw 48 hours or less prior to class. CANCELLATION: In the event of class cancellation, you will be notified by phone and receive a full refund of tuition and fees. (We cannot connect to phones with caller block.) HOLD HARMLESS: Participants agree to hold harmless the Schack Art Center, its officials, its employees and agents for any and all claims for personal injury and/or property damage in which damage and injury is or appears to be proximately caused in whole or in part by their participation in this program. Flamework • Beadmaking • Glassblowing INTERMEDIATE GLASSBLOWING, 18+ YRS If you already know the basics of blowing glass, but aren’t quite ready to work on your own, this class is for you. The use of handles, bits, and wraps will be covered, as will color application. This class will prepare you to pass the Schack studio rental test. RE-FORM, 18+ YRS Jesse Nelson

FLAMEWORKED GLASS I, 18+ YRS Learn how to use the torch to create your own soft glass beads and small sculptures! There are endless possibilities for the styles that you can make, limited only to your imagination. FLAMEWORKED GLASS II, 18+ YRS If you already have a foundation in working with the torch, this independent study class will help you build on those skills. Basic hollowware may be introduced, as will advanced decorative techniques. Bring your own soft glass, and ideas for your own projects. WEEKEND INTRO TO FLAMEWORKED GLASS, 16+ YRS Discover the basics of soft glass flame work. Using beads as the starting point, issues such as temperature control, glass compatibility, and proper annealing will be covered. MAKE YOUR OWN GLASS BEADS! 16+ YRS Try your hand at making glass beads in this afternoon class. The instructor will guide you through basic safety principles, and teach you how to make basic colorful glass beads which can then be turned into necklaces, bracelets, etc. All supplies provided. HIGH SCHOOL GLASSBLOWING, 14-18 YRS ONLY Jesse Nelson Teens, this class is your opportunity to learn to blow glass. Using 2000° furnaces (hot enough to turn a mixture of sand and soda ash into glass) you will practice the basics of blown glass and solid sculpted forms. 4 weekly sessions, no prerequisite. Focus on technique! In this intensive workshop, students will be encouraged to push themselves to work thinner and faster in the hot shop to execute clean, tight vessels. Refining tumblers, cylinders, bottles, and bowls will be our goal. Through exploring Venetian basics, teamwork, and becoming more efficient in the hot shop, this class will offer students a chance to go back to the basics as a trajectory to further themselves as craftsmen. THE ART OF INCALMO, 18+ YRS Darin Denison Incalmo glass was popularized by the Venini factory in Venice 60 years ago, and is still a staple used in modern design. The art of joining glass “incalmi” together to create distinct color Separations will be the focus of this 3 day intensive workshop. You instructor will guide you through the process of creating vessels made from different colored sections joined together hot. Prerequisite: at least 2 years of recent glassblowing experience. GLASSBLOWING I, 18+ YRS Granite Calimpong or Bob Mitchell & Dan LaChaussee Pick up the basics of molten glass from blowing, blocking and shaping to using specialized hand tools. This class will give you a good foundation on which to build the skills necessary to create functional and artistic objects. Watch demonstrations of basic techniques and then practice in teams of two. 8 weekly sessions, no prerequisite. KILNFORMING II, 18+ YRS Stacey King This continuation of Fusing I will build on what you have already learned. The use of frit, shards, stringers and cane to create different designs of your own will be the focus of this class. Advanced glass cutting techniques will be covered, along with in depth firing schedules, and proper studio practice. PATE DE VERRE, 16+ YRS Delores Taylor In this class students will learn the principles of the single mold pate de verre glass casting technique. Objects will be created first in clay then cast into an investment mold using glass “pastes”. Learn plaster mold making while creating test tiles, bas relief tile and a hollow core vessel. INTRODUCTION TO HOT GLASS, 18+ YRS Bob Mitchell or Joseph Freia The art of forming molten glass dates back to 3500 BC. This single day 8 hour intensive workshop is your chance to experience the thrill of working with the molten media that has captivated for centuries. You will learn the art of gathering glass from the furnace, and using fire, gravity and simple hand tools you will create forms of various shapes and sizes. No experience necessary. The fundamental skills necessary to work on your own in the kiln shop will be introduced through demonstrations, discussions and instructor lead projects. MAKE YOUR OWN GLASS JEWELRY! 13+ YRS Judy & Wendy Macauley Learn how to create beautiful fused glass pendants, earrings, and pins using Bullseye glass, dichroic glass, frit, and metals. We are also providing lots of fun extras such as sepia slides and 22kt gold cross slides so you can really experiment with different looks. By the end of the class you will have up to 8 pieces of beautiful glass jewelry to keep for yourself or give to friends and family. Jewelry will be fired and ready for pick up 2 weeks after class. THE GLASS POET, 16+ YRS Stacey King In this hands on workshop students will use glass paint, frit, wire, vitrograph stringer, and layers of glass to create a 6x8 cast collage tile. You will learn to layer design elements that allow you to capture imagery, words, poems, quotes and phrases in glass. COPTIC BOOKBINDING, 18+ YRS Meredith Arnold Create your own unique book using this ancient binding technique. The beautifully stitched spine looks complicated and gorgeous on the shelf, but you’ll discover the real fun is how simple it is to do. We’ll start off creating unique book covers with image transfers, collage, and some painterly surface techniques before putting the pieces all together. The process is fun and can be applied to make scrapbooks, personal journals, sketchbooks and more. Each student will take home a finished book. No experience necessary. PASTEL PAINTING, 16+ YRS Janet Hamilton This class will explore the vibrant, versatile medium of pastels. The emphasis will be on understanding values, color harmonies and composition in order to learn effective, expressive pastel painting. We will experiment with a variety of techniques (such as layering color and “underwashes”), as well as explore different paper surfaces made for pastel. The instructor will begin each class with a demonstration, and then students will work from a still life set-up or from their own photo material. Individual instruction will be given. PAINTING PETS IN OILS, 16+ yrs Karen McClelland Learn to paint animals with oils! Bring in your own photos and learn how to paint your best buddies in this new class using the direct painting (wet into wet) technique. This class will be filled with instruction, demos, and fun. Using this loose brushy style of painting you’ll probably do more than one project in this four week session. COLOR THEORY: PAINTING, 15+ YRS Tracy Kay Fraker Learn not only the characteristics of color but also pigment. We will create a split primary color wheel to gain a thorough understanding of color mixing. This series of enjoyable exercises will open your eyes to color and relieve your frustrations in color mixing.
