INTRODUCTION TO FLAMEWORKING, 16+ YRS This Introduction will teach you the basics of soft glass flame work. Using beads as the starting point, issues such as temperature control, glass compatibility, and proper annealing will be covered. This eight-hour intensive workshop is your chance to experience the thrill of working with this molten media. You will learn how to gather glass from the furnace, and using various shaping techniques you will create paperweights of various shapes and sizes. Basic blown forms may also be introduced. No experience necessary. FRIDAY NIGHT FUN WITH HOT GLASS, 18+ YRS

HIGH SCHOOL GLASSBLOWING, 14-18 YRS ONLY Teens, this class is your opportunity to work with molten glass. You will learn how fire, gravity, and centrifugal force can be used to shape glass into your final vision. Working safely in the Hot Shop will be a priority, and there will be plenty of instruction to teach the basics of blowing glass. No prerequisite. M-F July 18-22 9am-1pm $275

GLASSBLOWING I, 18+ YRS The basics of working with molten glass will be covered in this class. From blowing, blocking and shaping to using specialized hand tools, this class will give you a good base on which to build the skills necessary to create functional and artistic objects. Demonstrations of basic techniques will be plenty, as well as time to practice in teams of two. This course is offered in either 4 or 8 weekly sessions. No prerequisite. INTERMEDIATE GLASSBLOWING, 18+ YRS If you already know the basics of blowing glass, but aren’t quite ready to work on your own, this class is for you. The use of handles, bits, and wraps will be covered, as will color application. Prerequisite – at least one year of recent glassblowing experience. W July6-Aug24 6-10pm $680

KILNFORMING I, 18+ YRS Making glass tiles, plates and bowls is fun! The basics of cutting and shaping sheet glass along with use of various decorative techniques will be covered. Basic firing schedules and kiln set up will also be introduced. No prerequisite. Tu May 17-June 21 6-9pm $300

KILNFORMING II, 18+ YRS This continuation of Fusing I will build on what you have already learned. The use of frit, shards, stringers and cane to create different designs of your own will be the focus of this class. M July 11-Aug 15 6-9pm $320

KILNFORMED TILES, 13+ YRS Create your own fused glass tile using pre-cut shapes and sizes of colored glass. All of the work is done for you in this one evening class. CONTEMPORARY ENCAUSTIC BASICS, 18+ YRS Lisa JonesMoore Discover the basics of working with encaustic wax and its use in today’s contemporary art. Here’s the FUN part: you will learn how to paint and fuse layers, add color, collage and even texture! We’ll also cover materials, equipment, and studio safety. ENCAUSTIC IN 3 DIMENSIONS, 16+ YRS Binky Bergsman & Randi Harper Learn how to sculpt with fun new clays in this two part class. The first night you will create clay sculptures. Then, we will fire your pieces and return them the second week so you can use encaustic paint techniques and pigment to create works of three dimensional art. No experience necessary. Discover the basics of working with encaustic wax and the art of etching designs into this exciting “warm” medium. After working on developing simple line drawings, we will “transfer” them onto the wax, then carve and incise with dental and pottery tools. EXTREME ENCAUSTIC BASICS, 18+ YRS Lisa JonesMoore This is a one night “crash” course in the art of encaustics! Learn how to paint and “fuse” layers, add mixed media color and even collage! The instructor will start the class with an extensive demonstration of basic techniques. Then you will have plenty of time to make encaustic “technique tiles” on small pieces of masonite board. PAINTING FOR THE FAINT OF HEART, 16+ YRS Deon Matzen This class offers individual instruction for students working in acrylic or oil (we have a non-toxic classroom for those of you who have sensitivity to oil and solvents). All levels of experience are welcome, and students will be instructed at their skill level. We will use an alla prima approach which allows the painter to finish a piece in one session working wet into wet. This is also a nice entree to plein air painting. This class will introduce students to the vibrant, versatile medium of pastels. Emphasis will be on understanding values, color harmonies and composition in order to learn effective, expressive painting. This enjoyable class will be for beginners in pastel, though some drawing experience is recommended. Janet will begin each day with a demonstration. Students will also work from a still life set up and/or from reference photos. Participants will receive individual attention and helpful instructor critiques. Supply list provided at registration. PUDDLING STYLE WATERCOLOR, 18+ YRS Liz Lund Are you ready to paint in a puddle? Puddling is a watercolor painting technique that is not only fun but also can create unique and interesting pieces. In the puddling style you literally paint a puddle of water on the paper and then drop the paint into the puddle of water. This creates a fun area of flow and color mixing against a crisp outline that is created at the edge of the puddle. In this class we’ll learn how to use the puddling technique to create a fun painting with a subject matter of your choice. This class will be great for all experience levels from beginner to advanced. Liz will bring photographs to work with but also welcomes her students to bring reference photographs of natural or simple images. Supply fee payable to instructor at class.
