Then students will learn several printmaking techniques with the etching press and by hand. COMPOSITION IN ACRYLIC, 16+ YRS Tracy Felix Fraker We will paint two 11x 14 canvases side by side to compare and contrast similar techniques while using different compositions. This class encourages an experimental and contemporary approach. This will be a very dynamic workshop to inspire creativity with lots of demos by the instructor. We will play around with mixed media and acrylic techniques, but with a strong emphasis on composition. LEARN A CRAFT: SILVERSMITHING, 18+ YRS Donna Harris You will start by creating a beautiful bracelet from sterling silver wire. It will be bent to fit, soldered and a stone of choice will be added to enhance the bracelet. The design is very simple but extremely attractive and wearable. The second piece you create will be a ring, sized to fit your finger (or a friend’s) and enhanced with a stone to match your bracelet. If we have time, you will make another project of choice. There will be very little soldering and sanding, and you’ll leave with some very beautiful pieces! July 23 – 27, 2012 Schack Art Center is honored to have Davide Fuin, one of the few maestros of Murano, Italy, as an Artist in Residence in the glassblowing studio for an entire week this July. Current Schack glassblowing students will have the exclusive opportunity to watch the master up close. Students may reserve a seat inside the hot shop for only $50 per day. VITRIGRAPH CANE AND INCLUSIONS FOR KILNFORMING, 18+ YRS Janet Foley Put a Twist in Your Glass Work: Using a small vitrigraph kiln, you will learn how to prepare and fill pots of glass to create unique multicolored cane, murrinne, and zanfirico with intricate color, patterns, in a variety of diameters for embellishing your art. How to manipulate the flowing hot glass from the vitrigraph, what tools to use, and several different cane pulling techniques will be covered. Painting on Glass 101, Stan Price

PAINTING ON GLASS 101, 18+ YRS New! Stan Price The process of creating black and white imagery on clear sheet glass will be the focus of this class. Each student will trace and matte a piece of clear glass over a black and white image of their choice, either of their own design, or one of several provided designs. Note: Don’t worry if you don’t understand “trace” and “matte” - that is part of what you will be learning. Multiple layers of paint will be applied and the piece will be fired with the goal of creating depth and shading in one firing. By the end of the class, students should feel comfortable adding paint to any project. They will understand the products involved and the process and have a sample that they created. You will learn how aperture, shutter speed, light and motion affect the images you create. Use your own camera or share one with a friend. Any digital camera with an “M” or manual mode will work. ADVENTUROUS IMAGES WORKSHOP, 18+ YRS Nat Seymour This course will have you seeing in different ways and taking pictures with fresh perspectives. Each week we will practice new photographic techniques, take more pictures over the week, then review and compare notes. Emphasis will be on fun and creativity. Students should bring their digital camera (with an “M” mode), complete camera manual and any other photographic equipment they want to use. This course is intended for intermediate-level photographers who are familiar with how and why to vary aperture, shutter speed and ISO. PHOTOGRAPHERS, 18+ YRS Nat Seymour This basic two-hour overview of the powerful graphics software, Photoshop Elements, will show you its most popular features including cloning, healing, opacity and levels. Schack Art Center is honored to have Davide Fuin, one of the few maestros of Murano, Italy, as an artist in residence in the glassblowing studio for an entire week this July. Davide specializes in fine blown glass and goblets using traditional Venetian techniques such as zanfirico, filigree, reticello, fumè, and cristallino. He is recognized for his goblets, bowls, plates, and historical reproductions—his work can be found in museums and galleries around the world. Current Schack glassblowing students will have the exclusive opportunity to watch the master up close. Students may reserve a seat inside the hot shop for only $50 per day. Group Art Tours NEW! SCHACK ART CENTER DISCOVERY TOURS & PROJECTS FOR GROUPS Discovery Art Tours This FREE self-guided tour for ages 8 and up, begins with an Art Discovery Tour questionnaire that will guide you through the current exhibits as you hunt for the answers, learn about the artwork and artists.
