Introduction to SCORE SCORE was first established in IFMSA in 1991 as SCOEE (Standing Committee on Elective Exchanges) but then gained its final name as Standing Committee on Research Exchange (SCORE) in 1998. The primary mission of SCORE is to provide intensive and focused research projects, which allow medical students to expand their knowledge of specific scientific areas of their choice, while encouraging the formation of professional and social networks abroad.
exchange guideline
SCORE Indonesia is led by a NORE (National Officer on Research Exchange). SCORE is is a standing committee, along with SCOPE, that manages medical student exchange in Indonesia. The difference is located in the fields that the students get involved in. In Professional Exchange held by SCOPE, the students will go through clerkship overseas, but with SCORE, they will do research as exchange students. SCORE-CIMSA Indonesia facilitates Indonesian medical students who have the interest and ability to experience research program abroad by helping with the processing of the documents and administration required by the destination country that we already have contract with in accordance with the regulations.
11
SCORE Exchange The IFMSA Research Exchange is a research project that provides medical students with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in the specific area of their research interest. This program is officially recognized and supported by the medical school/university and is guided by a mentor who introduces exchange students to the basic principles of research, including literature search, data collection, scientific writing, laboratory work, statistics and ethics. Upon completion of the program, students may be required to prepare a written scientific report or an oral presentation.
12
There are four types of research exchange projects: • Basic laboratory research projects are research projects that involve works in the laboratories and theoretical studies • Clinical research projects, combined with the basic research in the lab are research projects that combine working in the laboratories and meeting patients • Clinical research projects are research projects that do not involve laboratory works. • Global Action Project (GAP) is a research project about one specific disease that is a trademark of a country.
