Message from the Leader — Superintendent Richard Arkanoff
Message from the Leader — Superintendent Patrick Spray
n behalf of the Center Grove Board of School Trustees, administration, faculty and support staff, we would like to welcome everyone back to school on Aug. 4, 2015! Center Grove’s Board of School Trustees ARKANOFF approved in May a revised vision for our school corporation. It states “All students receive an exceptional educational experience.” Center Grove is one of the best school corporations in the state, ranking in the top 13 percent, but we want to do even better for our students. We want all students to have that “exceptional educational
experience.” We will provide them with that experience by focusing not just on what they’re learning, but also where they’re learning, and how they’re learning. In March, Center Grove began an in-depth evaluation of the curriculum structure throughout the corporation. The continued work of a large team of teachers and administrators will result in a new structure that will allow teachers to focus less time on what to teach and more time on how to teach. This fall, we will launch an improved support system for teachers that will provide them with differentiated professional learning through instructional and academic coaching. These are exciting changes that we anticipate will have a significant impact on improving student learning.
Center Grove’s Mobile Minds 1:1 iPad program will be expanded this year to include students in Grades 6 and 7. Last year, we added students in Grade 8 to the Mobile Minds 1:1 program. Center Grove High School is in its third year of the program. Giving each student his or her own device allows us to deploy a studentcentered and personalized instructional approach to learning. We are working to align the learning environments and safety of all Center Grove schools to the same high standards through our $42 million Safety, Security, and Stewardship construction project. Work is at a mid-point at Center Grove High School and nearing completion at Center Grove Elementary and North Grove Elementary. In January, we plan to open a STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Math) Lab on the main campus (near Center Grove H.S.), which will serve as a resource for students in Grades K-12. We are also researching construction of a new student activity center to support our student-athletes, dance teams, color guard, robotics, and various other clubs and groups. In the last year, we renovated the old transportation building to create a new Technology Center. This change allowed us to bring all of our Technology staff together for the first time, which improves efficiency and frees up three classrooms at Center Grove High School. We also opened the Bright Beginnings Early Learning Center, a preschool and child care center for our staff members. We are proud of our investments to
attract and retain the best possible staff. These efforts were recognized in April when Center Grove was named a Top Workplace in Central Indiana by the Indianapolis Star and Workplace Dynamics for the third consecutive year. Center Grove Elementary will have a new leader this school year. Mrs. Shannon Carroll-Frey will replace retiring Principal Bruce Haddix. Mrs. Carroll-Frey comes to Center Grove from Arlington Heights Elementary in Monroe County. She has a true passion for children and we are confident she will be a strong and collaborative addition to our administrative team. We are looking forward to another year of exceptional educational experiences for our Center Grove students. Welcome back!

high school and we must change and adjust to the current work and college environment they will be entering in a few short years. This is one reason why we continue to connect with our business and industry partners to develop curriculum and experiences that reflect current trends. In the classroom, technology continues to play a larger role to expand the classroom walls for students to communicate, think
creatively, collaborate and critically analyze solutions to complex problems. These are the skills we have found to be necessary for success. Parental and community involvement is highly valued and necessary to attain the level of excellence we expect of our schools. Please take advantage of the many opportunities, or make your own opportunities, to become even more involved in the success of every Warrior!

Message from the Leader Superintendent David Clendening
reetings Franklin Community Schools’ families and friends. The 2015-2016 school year is just around the corner, and we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead! We are entering into the second phase of our strategic plan that is being used as a blueprint for our continued growth toward “great.” The desire to provide a wide variety of CLENDENING experiences, learning endeavors and opportunities continues to remain a focus area. The 2012-2019 Strategic Plan is three years old, and we are clearly seeing the fruits of our labor. This past year, FCS earned the highest grades in our district’s history. We had six A’s, one B, and one C. I am confident we will continue to see indicators of success in the coming year. A few other indicators of success for our district include the strong partnerships that continue to augment the learning environment. This year, FCS and Johnson Memorial Health entered into a five-year partnership. This partnership will provide continued quality services in each school’s health clinic, as well as athletic training services for our student athletes. The Franklin Redevelopment Commission’s investment in our district has seen early rewards.

Message from the Leader — Superintendent Tim Edsell
I
t is once again time for the start of school! On behalf of the Greenwood Community School Corporation board of education, I would like to welcome students, parents, administrators, and supporters back for the 2015-16 school year. With our modified balanced calendar, our summer was just a bit shorter this year! I want to first mention the DeKONINCK members of our board of education. Our success as a school district starts with this governing body. Members of our Board of Education are Joe Farley,
president; Jack Napier, vice president; Steve Moan, secretary; Nick Schwab, member; and Mike Metzger, member. As your superintendent, I continue to be humbled, honored, excited and appreciative of the opportunity to serve the Greenwood community. The key word in the Greenwood Community School Corporation is “community.” It takes a community to help educate students. Everyone, whether you are a parent, staff member, business leader or a resident with no children in our school system, has a responsibility to our young people. We are excited about the number of items occurring in the district this coming year.
Namely, we have a number of facilities improvement projects currently in the design phase. Those include a new middle school to open during the 2017-18 school year, an activities complex at the high school, renovations to the high school pool, air conditioning and other upgrades to the high school gyms, and HVAC upgrades to Northeast Elementary. We are thankful to all of the Greenwood community stakeholders for allowing us to undertake this important endeavor. Best of all, we are able to do this without raising the debt rate. We continue to be designated as an “A”
district by the Indiana Department of Education. We are proud of this designation, and our pledge to you is to continue doing everything we can to make our district even better. Thank you for being a part of the Greenwood Community School Corporation. Please know that we don’t take you for granted. We are a service organization, and we take our service responsibility to our students seriously. Please help us to carry out this mission by volunteering your time and talents to better serve our students. Here’s to a great 201516 school year!

hank you for visiting the Central Nine Career Center back to school section for the 2015-2016 school year. I am delighted to welcome all of our new students, returning students and adult learners to the Central Nine Career Center. The mission of Central Nine is to provide the facilities, equipment, instruction and learning environment to prepare students for a successful EDDS entry into business and industry. Central Nine has a rich history of student preparation through the twenty-six programs that are offered for high school age students. As part of the Central Nine curriculum students may choose to complete both high school credits and college credits in many of the center’s curricular areas. College credit at Central (SEE C9, PAGE 11) Nine is with either Ivy Tech or Vincennes University. In many cases, students will have completed a great deal of their college workload by the time they graduate from high school. Central Nine is also an area leader in adult education. Adult Basic Education (ABE) courses are offered as well as the High School Equivalency Assessment (HSEA). Please see out adult education catalog for more details on adult basic education. Central Nine is made up of students from nine sending high schools. Those schools are Perry Meridian, Southport, Franklin Central, Greenwood, Whiteland, Center Grove, Franklin Community, Beech Grove and Indian Creek. The career center is
governed by a school board made up of one representative from each of the eight sending school district school boards. Central Nine’s culinary program operates “To the Nines,” a restaurant open to the public three days per week. The focus of the restaurant is the preparation of culinary students for careers in food service and the hospitality industry. Students learn the importance of customer service through the real world experience of operating a dining establishment. Please make plans to visit To the Nines at some point during the school year to support the hard work of our students. Consult the Central Nine website for more information on operating hours. The teaching staff at Central Nine all brings real world experience to their teaching areas and excels at preparing students to be successful in the workplace. Many Central Nine students go on to complete a four year degree in the college of their choice or enter the workplace with the skills and dispositions necessary to maintain a high paying job. Please go to the Central Nine website http://central9.k12.in.us to learn more about the wonderful work that is taking place in the Central Nine Career Center. If you wish, you may schedule a visit or tour of the career center by calling 317-888-4401 ext. 231. The staff and personnel of Central Nine Career Center are here to serve the individuals who make up our student body. The passion and dedication of the staff to student success is evident throughout the school. Central Nine is proud to play an important role in educating and preparing students for their next step in becoming a vital part of our society.

Message from the Leader — President Joseph D. Hollowell
t the beginning of the new school year, exciting new changes await our students and faculty upon their return. After years of planning, fundraising, design and construction, our school plant continues to emerge as one of the finest private school facilities in Indiana. The completion this summer of six new classrooms will enhance our ability to continue to provide small HOLLOWELL classes allowing our students to get the full benefit from personal instruction. Involvement of the broader community in the education of our students has been a hallmark of success at Roncalli. The strength of our board system and structure
allows for the varied gifts and talents of community members to be shared in a way that allows for effective stewardship of the tremendous investment the Catholic community has made in Roncalli over the decades. This community involvement was most recently recognized at the national level as our Board of Directors received one of only five nation-wide Outstanding Board Leadership awards given in Orlando this past spring. The academic accomplishments of our staff and students continue to reach new heights as well. In the first year in which private schools were eligible, Roncalli was designated a Four Star School by the Indiana Department of Education. Our recently graduated Class of 2015 earned more than $20.5 million in merit-based college scholarships. The professionalism
and dedication of our instructors translates into exceptional performance by our students, highlighted by our recent notification by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation that Roncalli will have 15 students recognized by the National Merit program as commended students and semifinalists, which matches an all-time high for the school. Our enrollment will be well over 1,200 students at the start of the year. We are excited to welcome the gifts and talents of so many young people. Our efforts to ensure that every student is engaged in the life of the school have been enhanced in recent years. We feel it is imperative that our students take full advantage of the many extracurricular programs and clubs that are offered at Roncalli. Research has
consistently shown that students engaged in the extracurricular life of their school are much more likely to succeed in all areas of school life — especially the classroom. Our mission has long centered on working to develop life-long learners in service to others. Inspiring students to truly become life-long learners requires gifted teachers with a passion for their subject matter and an enthusiasm for teaching their students. Inspired teaching leads to inspired students and inspired students become their own best teachers. It is a successful formula for optimizing student achievement upon which we continue to rely and we are so thankful for the abundance of inspiring teachers plying their craft at Roncalli. We are looking forward to a fantastic year!

t Suburban Christian School, we are excited to see God’s hand of blessing upon our school ministry. We are also thrilled to be able to continue to offer reasonable tuition rates that help families get the quality education they desire at a price they can afford. Access to SGO scholarships and the Choice Scholarship Program will further help families remove the financial barriers WILHELM that often prevent them from choosing private education. Suburban Christian School was founded in 1975 to partner with churches and families on the southside of Indianapolis to prepare students to successfully face the challenges of life and fulfill the plan of God for their lives. This preparation is not achieved solely by providing a superior academic education, even though our students consistently score well above the national averages on standardized testing.
We also seek to prepare our students by developing Christ likeness in all aspects of their lives. Whether it is in the classroom, on the athletic field, at home, at work or serving in the community, we are striving to teach our students the importance of a consistent spiritual life that honors and brings glory to our heavenly Father. We are teaching our students to build their lives upon the authority of the Word of God. Our qualified, experienced staff and a challenging curriculum help to prepare our students for a lifetime of learning. Students receive the individual attention that they need to be successful due to our low student-to-teacher ratio. High school students have the option of a CORE 40 diploma or Honors diploma. More than 90 percent of our high school graduates attend college or a university, with many receiving sizable scholarship offers. We would love to have the opportunity to minister to your family. Message from the Leader — Headmaster Bruce Peters
s we approach another school year, the Lord continues to bless us with a great opportunity to minister to our youth, both academically and spiritually. We are looking forward to another great year in our facility at 835 W. Worthsville Road in PETERS Greenwood. GCA is a nondenominational Christian school that has grown to more than 550 students who
excel both academically and spiritually. These students represent more than 80 local churches from the southside of Indianapolis. GCA has the whole package: we have a K-12th grade program designed to be an extension of the home and church in the raising of our students in the way of the Lord and giving them opportunities to succeed in whatever they choose to do. GCA offers Core 40 and honors diplomas at the high school as well as a Bible curriculum that teaches both life application and Bible knowledge.
We pride ourselves in knowing that we are impacting the world by sending out qualified students who are prepared both academically and spiritually for their next stage in life. We can do this through an excellent teaching and support staff that molds our students through academics, spiritual knowledge and extracurricular activities, as well as positive peer relationships. The Lord is doing many great things at GCA and in the lives of our families, so please feel free to give us a call if you have any questions.

The following educational partnerships have allowed ICHS to provide a wide spectrum of experiences for our students. They include: • Dual credits offered in conjunction with Ivy Tech-Indianapolis. • A partnership with Wayne Township’s Achieve Virtual Academy allows for an extended list of virtual classes. • Career and vocational opportunities are available at Central Nine Career Center (Greenwood) for students in Grades 10-12.
• ICHS agriculture curriculum and FFA offer opportunities to explore horticulture and animal science. • The Indian Creek Learning Center for students who need to work outside of the traditional high school setting. Students can take Ivy Tech courses in the afternoon and evening for full college credit. • ICHS provides many extracurricular and co-curricular opportunities. • ICHS has implemented a full one-to-one iPad initiative that has enhanced the student learning process. The school has maintained a graduation rate above 90 percent for the past four school years. Our student-centered learning translates into real-world opportunities to excel.

hy choose Catholic schools for your child? Unless you are 100 percent committed to Catholic schools, you might not “get it.” Sending your child to a Catholic school is a sacrifice. Our facilities may not be state of the art, our size is usually smaller and tuition can be costly. But rest assured, the benefits make it all worth it! Our students FLOYD are individually valued, spiritually nurtured and academically successful! We are allowed to pray and talk about Jesus every day. Studies have shown that our students score higher on standardized tests, have a higher rate of graduation and become faithful stewards of the community. The close-knit, respectful and safe atmosphere allows our students to become lifelong learners. A better question would be: Why not
choose Catholic schools? St. Rose of Lima Catholic School was established in 1994 to meet the growing need for Catholic education for the children of St. Rose of Lima parish. In less than 10 years, our program grew to include preschool through Grade 8, offering a challenging, faith-based education for all our students. We offer a quality education for students of all faiths. St. Rose is fully accredited by the Indiana State Board of Education. We are also an approved School Choice school for the Choice Scholarship program. Saints Francis & Clare Catholic School
S
Message from the Leader — Principal Betty Popp
aints Francis & Clare School Ministry will open in August for the 2015-16 school year with more than 570 students enrolled. Classes will begin on Aug. 6 for children ages 3 through Grade 8. The addition of a new Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC) is scheduled to open the beginning of September and will serve infants and toddlers. The school curriculum focuses on Gospel values, 21st Century Learning, and has a STREAM (science, technology, religion, engineering, arts, math) emphasis POPP for the 2015-16 school year. Student learning is hands-on, relevant, and rigorous in order to meet the demands that are expected from children for future college and career opportunities. Technology is often used as a tool to enhance learning. Project-based learning takes place as early as preschool. Exploration and child interest for the ECLC will build a strong foundation for learning. Sharing faith and integrating the Gospel values
into all aspects of the academic day is at the center of the school’s mission. This year, the school-wide theme, “Making God Known, Loved and Served Anchored in Christ,” will set the tone for assuring that this mission is accomplished. The school is accredited by the Indiana Department of Education and has consistently received an A performance grade. Smaller class sizes are an advantage to the school. They currently range from 18 to 22 students with a maximum of 25. Most programs offered in the local area schools are also available to students who attend Saints Francis & Clare: 1:1 iPads (Grades 4-8), Title I tutoring, Special Education, Enrichment, response to intervention, after-hours childcare and more. Teachers have been taking advantage of professional development opportunities that include STREAM, Conscious Discipline training and iPad integration. The school continues to receive enrollment as area families learn about what is offered and the opportunities for their children to succeed. Our Catholic identity is the foundation of everything we do for our students.
