One day last year I went to the pool at Donners and I jumped off of the diving board and did a front flip and it was a lot of fun so I tried it again and I did a double front flip it was cool but then I just wanted to swim. Then I ran in to somebody I knew so we played with each other, but we couldn’t go under water because he just had surgery on his ear. And it was cool, though we couldn’t go under. He and I asked this one boy if we could use his boogie-board. Ashton Jones Van Buren Elementary, grade 4 “BOOM” I woke up. Like usual I was the first one awake. Like usual I went into the living room to watch T.V. And like usual there was nothing good on T.V. But the one thing that I remembered was that today was Kids Day! All I had to do was wait for the guests to arrive. A LONG TIME LATER! Soon everyone was here and the party could start. Everyone played in our rooms and talked and ate some very delicious food. Finally it was present time. All my cousins and sisters are girls so they got all girly stuff. But what did I get? I got some awesome toys. After a LOT more talking, snacks, and playing, it was really late. So they went home and went to bed. And so did we. It was a good day but no day lasted forever!!! THE END! Bryce Denton Van Buren Elementary, grade 4 One summer I went to Florida for Disney World. My mom,my dad,my brother Gavin,my older sister Alyssa, and my younger sister Aubree stayed there for a week.I only remember two rides. There was a ride where you go really high up and then you go in a tunnle,it stopped you right in fount of a broken track, then it would back you up and go on a different track.I don’t remember the rest of the ride. The other ride I remember is the Hollywood Tower of Terror. They had me strapped in but when it went down I felt like I was flying.I had an awesome time in Disney World. One day it was summer outside and I went to get in the pool and I forgot the noo-
dles to get in the pool. So I went to the house and got them. I saw the thermometer to look in and see how high it was in there. So I got in the pool and it was really hot in there. And I had to skim the pool to get the bugs out of the water. I stared to get the bugs and a bee flew right in the water .I got in the water to get the bugs out. So I could take a swim in are great big pool. And that’s when the clouds stared to get dark and it started to rain really hard and I could not swim at all .So my dad said to come before I get sick and cannot swim at all. So I started to lay one the noodles for a few minutes to get a tan I was really happy that day. Then I got my swim suit and stared to jump around in the pool. I was happy that day whit my family. Cailey Vanarsdale Van Buren Elementary, grade 4 This Summer I might be able to go to my cousins house or he will come to mine. He’s only 7 but he is hilarious. He dosen’t even have to say anything and he’s funny. Once he said when he’s 32 he will turn into Lee Toll Lee Jacky Chan. And when he’s 18 he’ll turn into Tony Hawk, he also said he wants to jump off buildings for a hobby, and when I said to at least wait for snow to come for a soft landing he said (but that’s dangeres). See I bet your laughing rite now and he’s not even there. Anyways I have that to look forword too. Cole Hedrick Van Buren Elementary, grade 4 One sunny day me, my sister Kortnee, my brother Daniel, and My mom were thinking that we are going to Florida .We packed up and we got in the car it was 5.00AM when we were half way there .The next day we were there at are condo we had a awesome room .We got dress to swim in the ocean .When we got there we got in the water .It was cold, when we got out we went back to the condo. The next day we went to the arcade .there were bumper cars, I got to ride one .When we were done we went back we packed up and left. Elijah Lucas Van Buren Elementary, grade 4
This summer I might go to Florida to see my friend’s .We go to the beach and swim and have a good time. We drive there. When we go to Florida we get orange juice on the way there. It takes 18 hours to get to my friends house and to Florida. We climb trees we play all kinds of games. We even jump on their trampoline and we have sweets and big dinners. We also watch good movies all night and stay up late. And sometimes we even go to museums and go to parks. And we get out the water slide and go down and go back up. My friend’s names are Ryan, Megan, Charlotte, and Erin. There all girls. There ages are 12, 10, 6, and 2. But I always have a good time at my friend’s house. Emma Unsworth Van Buren Elementary, grade 4 One day last summer I was getting ready to go outside to ride my dirt bike so me and my brother started to get are stuff on. Me and my brother Nolan went outside and got are dirt bikes and started them up we rode for about 30 min until my other brother Carter ran down to the swing seat and started to swing. Nolan tried to ramp are jump and cut his leg it was a little cut but there was quite a bit of blood so he sat for a little bit and then he stated to ride some more. My dad asked me if carter could ride my bike and I said yes but when he got on my dad told him to give it a little gas but he pulled the throtol back all the way and he went so fast that his helment about came off and he ran in to the trampalen. So we went in for the rest of the day Griffin Kelly Van Buren Elementary, grade 4 Last summer I went to my Aunt Tracies and Uncle Scotts. We went to go to their house to go swim since they had an underground pool with a diving board. So we drove all the way to Edinburgh. Finally we were there. Then I said mom can I go swim? She said to go ask my Aunt Tracie. She said yes. So I told my mom she said yes. She said ok. So I went to the bathroom slipped my bathing suit on and went to the pool. I already knew how to swim so I went on the deep side of the pool. Then my sister came to swim with me. Then she went on the diving board. I asked her if it was scary. She said no. So I went on the diving board and jumped off. Suddenly my friend Morgan came. So we played with her and played with the cats. Then we ate some lunch. Then we rode in the gator. At 4:00 it was time to go home. So we went to get are clothes on and packed up. We said goodbye to them. And dad started the car and we left. I had an awesome time. Haley Bringle Van Buren Elementary, grade 4 Last summer I went tubing at Lake Monroe. It very fun because the whole family went we even took our dog with us. We had two different tubes; one that we had was shaped like a donut with a little place to sit in, the other was flat with two handles on the top to hang on to. At first my dad took it easy and went slow then he started to go faster. He kept making sharp turns and he made it really hard to stay on. There’s this really hard challenge he made up called the 10 second challenge. It’s where you have to hang on for 10 seconds without falling off. It may sound easy but it’s not. Just imagine going super fast with water and wind splashing in your face. It is a very fun sport and the good thing is that anyone can do it. All you need is a tube and a boat. Michaela Tarter Van Buren Elementary, grade 4 Last summer I went tubing at the lake. I got blisters from holding the tube so tight. We went for my sister’s 5th birthday and I got to see my grampa Fishback. After the lake we went to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina like we do almost every year. My mom and I collect shark teeth on the beach. We saw a dead jelly fish on shore and two summers ago we saw a little shark. My brother Travis and I jumped the waves as my mom, dad, and little sisters moved on. We got to stay in the same hotel as always. That hotel is where I learned to swim. We stayed in South Carolina for one week and drove home. On the way home we stop in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. We walked to my favorite ice cream shop where I had my first funnel cake. We called a vet they said leave them there the mom will come I stayed up watching the box. The next morning woke up and went outside I saw bat was gone the other died I buried it in woods I called the bat Darrel. Quentin Penrose Van Buren Elementary, grade 4 I woke up and hit my head . It was my first try almost nobody was there! Before my brother tried to drag me on it but I got away every time. Every time he tried to drag me away towards the diving board I would latch onto my mother then she would hold me and tell me it all right. That calmed me down every time then I squirmed away and played. This is why I didn’t want to jump AFV people hit their heads, and chins! It just I didn’t want to get hurt that’s why never got on it before. Then my dad got tired of me refusing to get on the diving board so he said “Sarah you’ going to get on the diving board no matter what!” so I got on it my dad told me “ Farther. “ then I started to cry then my brother said “ I’ll buy you a DS game?” but I didn’t budge so my dad said I’ll buy you a phone!?” so… The life guard said “You’re a great swimmer I know you can do it!” so… I did it SPLASH!!!!! “Ouch my back hurts. “ “You did a back flop!” my dad chuckled THE END. She went with her dad and her grandpa. They went for there yearly salmon fishing. It took about 4-6 hours to get there. They took a boat to the lake. When they got close they stopped at Wall*Mart to get some food and fishing supplise. After the Wall*Mart trip they got to the motel. It was very close to the lake. Sydney’s great grandparents were there on the trip with them. Sydney stayed there for 1 week. We should have gone a week after, but we didn’t. They caught 7 fish! The salmon were BIG. She even saw a salmon jump out of the water! At the motel there was a cat. She was pregnet. Sydney Miller Van Buren Elementary, grade 4 Once upon a time I was in the yard playing with my brother. And I sat down to look at the cats...the second I do he is screaming and crying because he fell off the porch. And guess what he did he broke he’s nose. Can you believe he actually broke his nose can you believe he did? He went to the hospital. And when he got home he got ice cream and I got grounded. I really wanted to slug him right then and there but I didn’t. After that my life got better. Soon it was back to normal. That’s my story. Tristan .A. Huber Van Buren Elementary, grade 4
packed up all of our fishing gear. My parents packed their stuff, then they loaded the cone on the trailer .I went and got Pinkerton’s(my Beagle)life jacket. After we had everything ready we all piled in our 4-door Bronco. When we arrived at Elkensville I put on Pinkerton’s life jacket. Mom and Dad already had the canoes in the water, we were set to go. Pinkerton was so excited it was her first time in a boat. We were halfway down the river when it started to get dark and Dad said we should stop and make camp. Dad tried to pull my Mom Pinkerton and I up the bank when we were still in the canoe. My Dad flips the canoe and ‘’SPLASH’’ we all fell into the water. I started crying, the water was freezing. I ate my hot dog shivering. I was ready to go home. Willow Johnson Van Buren Elementary, grade 4 The last summer I went to the beach it took 5 or 6 hours to get there. We went fishing and swimming. I got stung by a jelly fish. We saw lots of turtles. We ate the crab legs, they were good. I caught a shark. It was a baby though. I wonted to keep it but my mom And dad wouldn’t let me. through the green trees. Aaron, (my cousin), and I walked outside on the pure green grass. We walked to the bank of the ice cold creek stream, it was quiet and peaceful. This was the first day of summer and my heart was full of joy. It felt good to hear the soft patter of water. Then we heard a big splash farther up the stream. Then we saw that it was a fish. “Chase that fish!” Aaron screamed. Then the chase began. We went through the creek stream, deep waters, and many more places, and then the fish retreated under a rock. Aaron dove into the water and grabbed the fish, but it slipped out of his hand and the next thing I knew the fish slashed me with its fin. I fell to my knees, the red blood was dripping from my leg, I applied direct pressure to my leg to stop the bleeding. “That was a mean fish.” I said rubbing the splashes of water off my face. The next time I saw that fish, the only remains were bones. Best summer ever! Andrew Law Van Buren Elementary When I am on summer break, I go on vacation usually. This summer my Mom, Dad, Aubrey,” my brother”, and I, are going to Orange Beach. My Mom said our family likes quiet beaches, so my Sugar and Papaw told my mom that Orange Beach is a quiet beach. our swing. After that I helped my mom plant flowers and fruit. I got eat the first tomato. Then I played with my animals and helped put up the swimming pool with my family. We had lunch. after we finished putting up the swimming pool. We went to town and rode our bikes for 20 minutes. Then we came home and swam and ate dinner. I got ready for bed and had a dream about the fun day I had. Caly Rice Van Buren Elementary One very sunny day One sunny summer day I went over to my grandma’s house. That day it was really hot so I told her I was going down to the lake and swim. So I went and got my swim trunks on and then I went and got the blow up dragon. I ran down to the lake and jumped in. I swam for hours then went and jumped off the dock. I did flips off the dock too then went up to the house and went home. When I got home I went inside and got a ice cold glass of ice tea. Then I went outside and filled the wood stove then I went and started on my fort. First I went and got some long sticks and stacked them on a log that was stuck in a tree and then I went and got on my dirt bike and rode for hours. Chad Newman Van Buren Elementary “Bzzzzzz”! My alarm went off. It didn’t go off for school. It went off because it was time to get up. I got out of bed and walked into the kitchen. I could just smell the pancakes and bacon. I asked my dad to fix me a plate. I ate all of my food. Now I could go outside and play. During Summer break I play outside on the trampaleen. I sometimes do cheers, flips, kart-wheels, and hand stands. They are all so cool and fun todo. Sometimes, I go to the park. That’s only if I get really bored. I love it when we are out of school and we are on Summer break. If we get really lucky and we have a lot of money we go on vacation. One time, my dad took me to Disney world. It was a lot of fun. We got to go and see a 3D movie. It was awe-
some! I do a lot of stuff on Summer break. Some people stay home or go on a vacation. What do you do during Summer break? Hanna Napier Van Buren Elementary It’s Summer!! “O.M.G it’s Summer break! That means I get to go to Florida!” I tell my friends. I get off the bus at my house where I greet my mom and dad. We grab our suitcases and pack the car . I have a special bag filled with fun stuff. We’re all ready and we drive to the airport. At last we’re on the plane. While we’re on the plane I play with my DS and my Amazon Kindle. We got out of the taxi (the one that drove us to our hotel from the airport) and packed a cart with our baggege. Then we took the elevator up to our room. We loved the room. It was really nice. That night we went to Red Lobster to eat. The following days for the next two days, we went to a movie. We saw Tron and Yogi Bear. On the last day we swam, played card games, watched T.V, rested, ate homemade lunches, and had lots of fun. We had a complrtly wonderful time. One thing that I loved about going to florida (besides the flying , movies, swimming, and all that jazz) is that I got to eat a cereal of my choice. That was one of the best times I’d had in a long time. Chase Watson Van Buren Elementary Summer Vacation On summer vacation I’m going to Kentucky. I’m going to see my great Uncle Ed. I’ve been there once. He Said the next time we go there we can go fishing and a bunch of other things. My favorite thing to see on the way is the Ohio River. It is huge! I couldn’t believe how big it was! He Said that we could do anything we wanted. I can’t wait until summer comes around. I want to go today but I can’t. Uncle Ed said we could go to church. He gave me a coin worth two dollars. He’s really wise. He’s caught a lot of fish. He has a cat named Tabby. It’s a tabby cat. That’s where I’m going.

On summer vacation, I have an idea of what I am going to do. I think that I want to go fishing a few times. I also will want to jump on my trampoline with my friends Abbott Garn and Griffin Kelly. I know that I will help around the house and play some of my favorite sports. I will sleep under the trees reading, and finishing books one–by-one in our hammock. I am also thinking of fixing my jungle gym. And have s-mores by the fire. That’s what I’m planning to do. My summer vacation I love summer vacation even though I don’t go anywhere. I just like to spend my time outside in the summertime, enjoying the fun and heat, wishing summer would never end. I would hate to spend all my time inside. One thing I like about summer is water. I like swimming pools, sprinklers, pretty much anything involving water. I guess I just like to see my sisters running away from me. It’s funny to watch them running away, screaming. Another thing I like in the water category is water balloons. I love those things. The only thing I don’t like about them is getting hit. Whenever someone tries to hit me I duck. You always have to try to make it in time, because you don’t want to get hit. Trust me. I always try to aim for the person I choose as my target. Except I’m not allowed to aim for people’s faces. That’s another sad thing. But I still love those things. I love summer. It is one of my favorite times of the year. I love the warm weather and the fun. In my opinion, summer is a time when you don’t really have anything to worry about, so you can just kick back and enjoy the warm weather. I love summer. Van Buren Elementary Wanna have Fun in Summer Time It was a cold warm afternoon .Isabella Storch was lonely in her house with her babysitter . Her mom and dad were
at work ,they promised Isabella to go to Egypt. But they had to cancel it because Isabella `s mom had to go to New York for a business trip. So her father decided to take her to Florida as a surprise. ‘’Daddy, daddy I can`t believe you are taking me to Florida ‘’. ‘’I`m so glad you liked the surprise honey ‘’. Driving . In Florida ‘’ Honey we are here , wake up’’.Isabella scarched her eyes . They were going to the hotel the ‘’Seasons’’.’ ’Honey look I have another surprise for you, look who is here?’’ ‘’Mom I`m so glad you are here,I love you both ‘’.’’ We love you too , and we are going to have so much fun because we are going to stay here a week’’. ‘’ Now this is the best summer ever in the WORLD’’. Paola Ariza Van Buren Elementary Going to Florida My family and I got into the car. We were on our way to Florida. We go to Florida almost every summer. “I can’t wait to get there,” I told my family,” I’m going to see it first. “(We try to see who could see the ocean first.) “No you aren’t Princess I’m going to see it first,” my grandma says as I laugh. When 12 hours passed we were in Florida. We drove to our condo. It was called Tide Water. It is Very Big, I thought. We parked in the parking garage. I took out my suitcase and waited for my mom, dad, brothers, grandparents, and uncle to get out. Once everybody got out, we walked to the elevator. When we got out of the elevator we walked to the check in desk. When we started walking to our room my brother, Elijah, called to me, “Come on let’s race to the room. We started to run, until my mom told us to stop. When we reached the door my papa took out the key. He opened the door. It was HUGE! We all walked in and unpacked. When we got done unpacking and settling in we went to the beach and thats where we were for almost the rest of our vacation. Kortnee Lucas Van Buren Elementary, grade 4 Summer Vacation It was a hot summer day. I was going to Lake Monroe for a week. My family goes there every year. There is this little island and crows mob it. I never catch the most fish. My grandpa is Pike an expert at it. The only part I don’t like is when we have to leave because then I get really bored during the summer. One time I was swimming and I got a big gash in my foot from a piece of glass. It really hurt. My brother Rusty got hurt on some briars and his leg got all swollen. The briars might have had poison or something that Rusty was allergic to. Nicholle Ruckman Van Buren Elementary Swimming With Killer Whales by Lisa Fleetwood, Helmsburg Elementary, grade 4 One day my mom said for ummer vacation we are going to swim with Killer Whales. When we got there I could not wait to go swimming with Killer Whales. When we got on the boat I said, “When do we go swimming with the killer whales???” We got to the spot and put our wetsuits on, then dove in the water with the Killer whales. It was amazing. When we had to get out of the water, our trip was over. I was very sad and wanted to go back!
Not-So-Dream Hawaii Vacation Imagined by JulitaCridlin, Helmsburg Elementary, grade 4 One sunny summer Saturday morning we were going to head off to Hawaii. It wasn’t my idea, of course. I would pick France! You probably think of Hawaii as a pretty place where you can relax; but, for me, Hawaii is a shark infested, coconut castle, and sand-in-your face island! Finally we are in Hawaii…. After a long plane ride. Oh, wait, I don’t LIKE Hawaii! I had a coconut (shudder). Well, I have to admit…. IT WAS REALLY GOOD! Mom said, “You will never know fi you don’t try!” So, I did. Dad said, “Try to surf, it’s fun!” “No WAY, what if a shark comes, and eats me?!” I responded. “What if I tie you to it?” Dad said. Before I knew it, I was tied to a surf board. “Sand!”Sadi D.J. “Come on I’m not going to play in it, the sand” I said, but, I did. Five days later we left the island, and I have to admit, it wasn’t that bad. I will come back someday. Dream Vacation to Florida by Kiyomi Ball, Helmsburg Elementary, grade 4 On my dream vacation, I would go to Florida with my great grandpa and go on my grandmother’s boat. We would go to the beach and find seashells. We would tell jokes and laugh together. I would make her a cake, like I always do for my family members. Oh, and with the shells we find, I would make her a necklace. Lastly, we would play with her little cats. On the way to Florida by Wolf Davis It was a sunny day. I would’ve been playing but we—Mom, Dad, My sister, and me—were driving to Florida. We were on our last day of driving. I was playing my Ipod, my sister listened to music, Dad drove, and Mom slept. I was so bored I decided to listen to music. I glanced at the GPS. 50 miles—an hour to go. I closed my eyes, it seemed like a second. But then, “WOLF!” My sister shook me. I looked around and saw the blue ocean! Then, I cheered! I saw palm trees, seagulls and sand. Finally I was there. Dreaming of Tennessee by Skyla Backus, Helmsburg Elementary, grade 4 My dream is to go back to Tennessee and stay in a log cabin for like 6 days or more because I was 3 years old when I went there. I went fishing but I didn’t catch any fish at all. So, if I go back again hopefully I’ll catch some. Or I would like to go to Brown County and swim or play tennis with my mom and dad. Florida and Dolphins by Brailey Bray, Helmsburg Elementary, grade 4 One day I went to Florida for a vacation. I rode on my aunt’s boat I saw dolphins and whles. They splashed us when we were on the edge looking at them. We rode on it for about 3 hours and then we drove off in our car and went to the house we were renting and got our swimming suits and went for a swim on the ocean. Then I got out, got dressed and we went to a restaurant and ate. I ate gator. It tastes like chicken, but better. After that we went home to rest. I would go to Florida by Josh Parry, Helmsburg Elementary, grade 4 I would go to Florida with all my best friends and family. We would go to the beach, go fishing, eat out at seafood restaurants and have a lot of fun. We would usually go to the beach to find cool shark teeth and sea shells. After the day at the beach
we would go and watch the Tampa Bay Tays play and we would have front row seats. After that we would go back to our house in Englewood. After that we would stay up late watching movies and playing video games. After a good night, the next morning we would go get tickets to see the Heat play at Miami. With two days left of vacation we would just decide to stay in Florida and live there and visit INDIANA on Spring Vacation. Lego Land by Nathan Lambert Helmsburg Elementary, grade 4 One hot summer day, I woke up. I was really happy today. I was going to Lego land in Chicago. By the time we got there I was super excited. When we got in we got on rides. We also played games there. When it was time to go home I was a little bit depressed. Then, I thought to myself, maybe I will come back some other time. Then we got in the car and went home. My Summer Vacation One summer, my brother Anthony and I went to Georgia to visit my Aunt Melissa. We flew on an airplane. I was happy when I saw my Aunt Melissa. She is really nice. We went back to her house to unpack our clothes. Then we went to eat at Pizza Hut. We ordered sausage, pepperoni, and cheese pizza. My drink was Dr. Pepper. It’s my favorite drink. Then we went back to her house and went to sleep. We woke up the next morning and got dressed. Then we went to IHOP. I ordered the smiley pancakes. We went back to the house and got dressed for the beach. We swam for a long time in the ocean and played soccer. We saw a storm cloud and then we left. We went to Sonic to eat. I ordered a slushy and hotdog. It was good. Then we went to the house and went to sleep. We woke up next morning and went to an inside water park. We went down the water slide. It was fun. Then we went and played pool basketball. The game was 19 to 21, my team lost. It was a fun game. Then I went to eat a snack. I ate pb and j. Then we went home and packed our bags and went to sleep. We woke up next morning and went to the airport and flew home. The End Alex Mosconi Nashville Elementary, grade 4 The Ultimate Summer I went to Pebble Beach to see Tiger Woods! He hopped in my van to travel to the big state of .California I found a lot of jobs and I got one hundred dollars. I bought an IPod and Tiger Woods signed it for me! Tiger and I played the longest game of soccer in the world! He had some fun .He tripped a couple of times and after that we grabbed two buckets. And we spun around until we threw up. Supercross Supercross is a fun, dirt bike racing sport. The track is two triples, two tabletops and a set of whoops. A whoop is when a bike does a wheelie and the front tire does not touch the ground and it goes over a set of small hills or “whoops.” After the whoops there is a step-up onto a tabletop, then off the tabletop into a double (hills) then into a berm that leads to a second tabletop, then into a triple, cut the berm and into the finish line. This is one trip around the track and you have to do it three times. In a race it starts with a “hole shot.” A hole shot is when your front tire is on the gate and a guy releases the gates all at once.

•
You pop the clutch, give it gas and take off. In my last race, two guys took off ahead of me and I started in third place. I took the inside and took over second. Now I was going for first. In the first triple I doubled and he tripled which gave me the chance I was looking for. I hit the double, I took the outside of the berm, I cut it short. I still had two triples, one double and a set of whoops between me and the finish. On the triple I did a “knackknack,” which is a trick where you stand on one peg with one foot. But you have to land it! I landed it safely, went into the doubles, did a “heel clicker,” which is where you click your heels over the handle bars, and took over first place. I hit the whoops, cut the berm, did a knack-knack no-hander at the finish line and won the race! Chandler Browning Nashville Elementary, grade 4 Summer I woke up. It was the first day of summer. I was so glad I didn’t have to go to school. I went down stairs. I told my mom that breakfast smelt good. She said, “Thank you,” and smiled. I asked what she was cooking she said, “Pancakes and bacon.” “I’m going to go feed and water the dog,” I said to my mom and she said, “Ok”. I went to feed him. Once he saw the food he jumped on me so I set it on the outside floor. I went to my room and got dressed in a purple tank top and shorts. I went to eat breakfast and called Gracie and invited her over and I told her to get her swim suit on she said, “My swim suit is going to be blue, pink, and lime green, and that’s all.” I told her that mine is going to be blue orange and pink. “Ok” she said. “I’ll be there in 10 minutes.” “Ok,” I said. I hung up and asked Mom if Gracie and I could walk to the water park together. My Mom said, “That would be ok as long as we pack some snacks.” “Ok,” I said. Gracie was here in approximately 10 minutes. I was so happy I told her I packed some snacks. We said bye to my mom and gave her a hug and started walking to the pool. We were at the pool for 3 hours and I said, “I’m tired.” “I am too,” Gracie said. We went back to my house and called her mom and asked if she could stay the night and she said we can. We had a great day. The next day we just went to the park, then the pool, then we went to my house, ate some fruit, drank fruit punch and watched TV. Then Gracie said, “Lets go to Texas Road House.” “At 6:00pm? Ok, I’ll write my mom a note.” We went, came home and went to sleep. Chloe Brock Nashville Elementary, grade 4 The Summer In Louisiana Hi I am Coralynne. I am 12. I have only one BFFL and her name is Samantha Snyder. Samantha is 12. She is very awesome, nice, and cute, as a puppy dog. Chapter 1:Asking “Hey Mom. Can Samantha go to Louisiana with us?” I said, holding the phone in my hand while tripping over my flip-flop and falling on the ground. “Did she ask her Mom?” my mom asked. I responded, “Yes, she did.” So, Mom said, “If she pack fast, she can come with us.” I ran out of the door before I could say anything. Chapter 2: Leaving
5
Two days later Samantha came over to my house because we were going to the airport. Samantha had on a blue and pink shirt with pink shoes and yellow shorts. I had on a pink and yellow dress with yellow flipflops. We left for the airport. When we got there, we got on the plane. When the plane landed we got on a shuttle bus to go to the car rental place. We got a red van with black wheels and a red steering wheel cover. We drove to the hotel. It was called Hotel Gator. When we got to our room we went to bed. Chapter 3: gator The next day we went to a rescue center we saved a baby girl gator in my opinion she was very pretty. I named her Lilly because she likes to hide under lily pads Chapter 4: leaving We I left a week later. We took Samantha home. My mom, dad, and I went home one hour later and went to bed. THE END Coralynne Robinson Nashville Elementary, grade 4 Sweet Summertime “Hey Teddy. This summer I’m going swimming, bike riding, and watching TV,” said AJ. “What are you doing this summer, Teddy?” “Well, I am going to my Dad’s house, and it’s so boring there,” said Teddy. “Maybe you could come to my house,” said AJ. “You might be on to something AJ,” answered Teddy. “We could ask our parents if I could come over to your house for the summer.” “My Mom always says yes to sleepovers,” said AJ. So AJ and Teddy asked their moms if Teddy could go to AJ’s house. The two moms said if the kids helped them around the house they could be together for the whole summer. Teddy and AJ agreed. Before spring break Teddy and AJ cleaned house and did homework all day and all night. It was Friday and spring break started on Saturday. Teddy packed her bag on Thursday, she packed her sleeping bag, her pillow, her toothbrush and toothpaste. She also packed thirty shirts and thirty pants and

Gracie By Nashville Elementary, grade 4 SUMMER BREAK!! One day I called my friend Rachel. The phone was ringing. “Hello” she asked in a confused voice. It’s Justine I told her. “Oh” she said “I was wondering if you can come over.” “Ok let me ask my mom.” There was a long silence on the phone. Soon she said, “Yes I can.” “Ok. When?” “Uhh … today!” she said in a loud voice. “OK. I’ll be there in 30 minutes.”
“OK.” Then I hung up. It was 2:51 and she was coming up the driveway. She parked and she came up to the front steps and came in. My mom started the car and we got a snack and hopped in the car and we went shopping. When we got in the parking lot we jumped out of the car and ran in. The first place we went to was Justice. When we got in there it was really big. I got an outfit and so did Rachel. Then we went to Clair’s to get earrings and fake nails. We went to five other stores and when we came out our hands were filled with bags. Then we went home. The End. Justine Cramer Nashville Elementary, grade 4 The Story about Raking Leaves One day a man was raking his leaves back and forth back and forth…then he raked them in a pile. His son came out to play and saw the pile of leaves and he hopped in it and he got in trouble so his dad made a new pile “Yes, I’m finished with it. Oh no!” the dad said. His son hopped in it again. “YOU ARE GROUNDED!” Noah Eversoll Nashville Elementary, grade 4 SUMMER Summer is not my favorite season but it’s a warm season and I play basketball because a lot of people say I’m very good. Besides playing basketball I also go to the pool at Salt Creek Golf Retreat and I go on vacation. Summer’s just about having fun away from school. I also go to the ocean every year and play. We also swim with fish and jellyfish. I got cut by a shell on my foot I said, “Ouch”. But it healed. Some people they say “BOO HOO.” When summer is back people start to pack their bags and head out on vacation. When people like to swim in the ocean with fish and other sea creatures they will eventually get bit by a crab. I’ve never been bitten by a crab but I have been stung by a jellyfish. My Grandpa was bit by a crab.

When summer is over everybody has to go back to their regular schedule and in August it is time for school. Parker Van Ness Nashville Elementary, grade 4 Summer Time!!! One day my best friend, Justine, called and left a message. Then I called her back. “Hello, Mrs.Cramer?” “Yes? Who is this?” “This is Rachel. Is Justine there?” “Yeah, Hold on.” “Hello?” “Hi, is this Justine?” “Yeah.” “Ok do you want to come over and go to the beach??” “Sure!” “Ok come to my house in 5 minutes.” When she got to my house, my mom drove us to the beach. We got a hotel room that we could see the ocean from. “Can we get ice cream??” I asked. “Sure.” She replied. Then we went to the lobby and got ice cream. I texted my mom and asked if we could go to the beach and play volleyball. She said yes. We got to the beach and we saw our friends, Baelyn and Kyndra, and they were playing volleyball so we joined them. After we were done, we played in the ocean. We tanned until it was dark. We went to our room and slept until 12:00 PM, and woke up and got ready to go home. When we were ready, we left. The end Rachel Kilby Nashville Elementary, grade 4 “Did you remember to screw in the drain plugs?” I asked my dad over and over again. Finally when he listened he replied, “No I didn’t” and he started running toward the dock where our blue and white jet ski was running. When we got there I had to climb onto the back and screw in the two small, black drain plugs. It wasn’t very easy because the engine was running so I couldn’t put my hands where the water sprays or my skin will fall off. The drain plugs were also small. Their diameter
was only about three quarter-inches. When I finally found them I screwed the in and told my dad, “You didn’t waste all this time looking for life jackets, licenses, and other things to leave the drain plugs out” We got on our jet ski and set off to look for the pontoon boat that had everybody going on the boat outing. We raced to the middle of the lake so we could find the boat. We weren’t on it because we were late because we couldn’t find a lifejacket for my dad. When we did we were running out of time. When we got to the middle we didn’t see the pontoon boat. I was holding a brown bag with clothes in it. The bag was very heavy. There was a dock close by so we set the bag down onto the dock. We once again started to look for the boat when disaster struck. Our engine stopped in the middle of the lake! We tried to start it but the engine was out of fuel. “We’ll be in here forever” “No we won’t be Cole, we’ll get towed” “Quiet down I am going to try calling Mom” “Hey over there! Our boat broke! Please tow us.” “I think we got our ticket” I told my brother Cole while Dad was talking to the man. He started to tie us up and brought us back to the dock. We walked to the dock that had our bag on it and went to our white truck. Now we couldn’t find our keys. We looked everywhere, even in my swimming trunks! When we lost all our energy we called Mom and asked to cut a key from the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). We were bored while we waited but at least we had something to look forward to. I asked how a two-cycle engine works when Mom came with the key. We finished cleaning up and went home. Rachel Kilby Nashville Elementary, grade 4 The Summer in Chicago One day my friends and I were going to Chicago. My friends were Coralynne. She is 18, Shania is 16, Gracie is 16, and I, Samantha, am 18. We all have cars, but we have to drive Shania and Gracie everywhere. We
went to Chicago. We got to a hotel named Easthood Plaza. We put on swimsuits and ran downstairs to jump in the pool. The pool was 4ft-6ft in depth. We went on a boat ride and we played at the fair. It had a big fairs wheel. We ate at McDonald’s and we got rice necklaces with our names on it. It’s very cool we got them as hearts and got the sides in red and the middle in turquoise. We went on a boat ride in the lake. It took 30 minutes to get off the boat. We had a good time and we packed up and left for the night. We miss that place. The end Samantha Snyder Nashville Elementary, grade 4 The Two Vacations in the Summer Time! A couple summers ago I went to French Lick we went to a hotel it was awesome. It was cool. It looked like a big castle. It had an inside pool it had a statue in the middle of the pool. It was a statue of two or three dolphins jumping out of the water. It squeezed out water from their mouths. It looked cool. They also have a hot tub outside. AJ is my little brother. He is four. He learned how to swim in the deep end and the shallow end and my 3 year old brother, QB, is learning how to swim. That was an awesome summer. A few summers ago I went to Florida to visit my family and also because I wanted to have fun. Every day I woke up and it was very hot out. There were crocodiles and alligators in the road. They were dark green and light green. It was scary! One time we were going to the beach and we were on a bridge and suddenly we stopped. We all jumped out and ran to the side of the bridge. There was water and there was a big crocodile. My sister poured water in there and wherever she poured it, it followed the water and was calm and he just floated there. It was fun. I wish summer would come fast. I can’t wait to do it again. Maybe it will be more fun than last time! The End. Shania Brumfield Nashville Elementary, grade 4 THE DOG PARK! It was a hot summer day and I was wondering what to do. I called Virginia to see if
she would come to the dog park and bring her dog, Milly to come and play with Bolt and I and she said yes but to be weary of her dog because it is afraid of strangers. So I went to the dog park and waited for Virginia. She arrived three minutes later. We talked and talked and then finally she let her dog out of the car. Milly pranced out with her white fur blowing in the breeze. She looked at me and Bolt with her small beady eyes and then at Virginia as if to say they are ok she waged her tail. We decided to play fetch with our dogs. I had lots of fun doing it but mine Frisbee kept getting stuck in a tree. After we both did ten rounds of fetch we got out our snacks and ate at a table. By that time it was getting dark and rain clouds were appearing. It was just sprinkling but I put my hood up. I looked at Bolt who was chewing on some grass by Milly. Virginia said, “I have to go my mom is probably waiting for me.” I watch her walk away and when she turned the corner the rain and we departed. THE END? Sophia Smith Nashville Elementary, grade 4 Florida In The Summer There were two teens that never went to Florida and they got to go on their 18th birthday. When they found out, they were so excited they nearly packed a week early! Then the day came that they went to Florida. They went everyplace their legs would carry them, and then at last they came to a stop. They saw a beach. Then all of a sudden they ran back home and got their swimsuits and ran back to the beach. It so was crowded you wouldn’t believe it. While walking to the beach Samantha and Drake both nearly tripped on a little kid who was playing in the sand. They finally got to the beach when it started to rain. The raindrops matched their tears they walked to the beach house. When they got there, the rain had stopped and they had no idea where they were and they were so frightened that they nearly screamed when they saw their mother looking for them. They ran up to her and hugged her so tight they made her cough. Then they went to the beach house and got a good nights

rest, because they had a big day tomorrow. The next day they finally got to go swimming, and then they went to get some ice cream and both of them got chocolate and got hot fudge on top. They had a very good time in Florida. The End Virginia Lecklider Nashville Elementary, grade 4 My Awesome Summer Vacation We walked down to the beach and we got a jet ski and took it for a spin. I saw a bunch of things like a ray, jelly fish, turtles, and went home and played video games. The next day I found a shell, coral, and a crab claw. I loved this vacation. We played Spiderman video game until I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I fell asleep on a cloud and dreamed of my zombie friends eating worms for lunch with me. We sat down at the table to eat our sour gummy worms when “SNAP” I woke up. It was a beautiful morning until I got sunburned so bad I felt like I died. So I jumped into the water but it still burned. We went home and the sunburn was gone. Jason Stratton Nashville Elementary, grade 4 Summer Fun I will go to Samantha’s house and go to the mall. We will go to the nail place and eat food from MD’s and I will like it. My sister, Erica, will buy candy. I can help go get ice cream with soda and it will be very good to eat. The next day we will go to the water park where there is a hot tub. We will swim in the cool pool. It will be very fun. Samantha will go on the slide and it will be fantastic. Gracie will have clown make-up on and it will be funny. I love the candy there. It will fill me up and be so very fun. It will be the best summer ever. Autum Overstreet Nashville Elementary, grade 4 Skate Boarding “When will we get there?” I asked. “Soon,” my mom said. “Urghhh…this is taking forever!” my sister said. An hour later, we were at the skate park.
7
“I’m going to go on the half-pipe first!” I yelled. This is so cool, I thought to myself. Once I was on the half-pipe I came down and went up and did a “pop-shuvit”, and then I came down and went on a rail. Then I “ollied” off it and looked around to see if there was something that I wanted to go on. After a minute or two I saw a quarter-pipe, so I rode over to it. I went up it and did a “varial kick flip” and came back down. Then I saw a huge half-pipe!! I rode over to it, went up it, did a heel flip and then it happened! I fell off my skateboard and landed on my arm. “Aghhhhh!! My arm” I yelled. I walked over to my mom, still grunting in pain. “Mom, I think I twisted my wrist.” I said. “Leo, not again! Let’s go,” my mom said. Then we left the skate park, got in the car and drove home. Leo Williams Nashville Elementary, grade 4 Summer Finally, summer! I’ve been waiting for this all year! Complained Macy. “I know. It’s been so long,” said Jenny. “Come on guys, it hasn’t been that long,” said Chelsea. Macy’s an awesome girl who loves soccer, math, and puppies. She’s a straight A student. Jenny’s a stylish person. She loves basketball, writing, and dirt bike racing. She’s a straight A student too. Chelsea’s a fun and loving girl who loves softball, science, and gum. She’s also a straight A student. All the girls are in junior high. “What should we do now?” “IDK.” “Could you come to my house and spend the weekend?” said Jenny. “I’d love to!” Chelsea and Macy said at once. O.K. I’ll see you at my house tonight. Bye.” “Mom,” said Macy, “Can spend the weekend at Jenny’s?” “Sure… that will be fine because your sister has plans too.” Bong….”I’ll get it!” yelled Jenny. “Great, you’re here.” “What do you want to do?”
8
“How am I supposed to know?” “Hey, let’s have a party.” “OK” “What kind?” asked Macey. “Pool party,” the girls said at once. “Yeah, you can have it at my pool,” said Chelsea. “I’ll do invitations and you get decorations.” said Macey. A week went by and the party was almost there. Ring, Ring. It was Jenny. “Jenny, what do you want?” asked Chelsea. “I don’t have a swim suit, I mean I do but it doesn’t fit!” Jenny screamed into the phone. “Calm down… I just got my allowance, “said Chelsea. I‘ll call Macey and we can go shopping. Finally you’re here,. It took forever for you to get here. Stop talking and start shopping. “Oh, I love this one,” said Jenny. After the girls went shopping they came back and started decorating. At 6:00, everyone started showing up. “I can’t believe that everyone came!” screamed Macey. “I know. It’s awesome!” “This is the best summer ever!” The girls screamed. Baelyn Koester Nashville Elementary, grade 4 The Track Runner “This is taking forever. When can I go home?” “Not until you run 3 more laps, Erick!” “I don’t wanna…” (He passed out) 1 hour later… “Uh…What happened?” “You passed out.” “How long?” One hour “What!? I have to be at the track meet!” “Sorry. Guess you missed it.” “Well this stinks.” “Sorry.” “It’s OK. I’m going to take a shower.” “OK.” Four hours later…
“Whew... That was a long shower.” “Hey …It’s 11:00. I guess I have to go to bed.” 5 hours passed “Ahh! Crash... that hurt. Owww! I got bit by a spider... Oh God, it’s a black widow! 3 min. later He died. The End. Erick Elsey Nashville Elementary, grade 4 Camping Baelyn sighed in a sad way because her friend was moving. . A few hours later Baelyn was home all alone and bored, until Gracie walked in with Kiera (her best friend). Baelyn asked, “Whatcha doin?” “Oh we just thought we should stop by, you know, to be friendly.” “Ya.” “Well, my mom said she had a surprise for me, but I don’t know what it is. It’s just bothering me,” Baelyn said whispering. Two weeks later, Baelyn’s mom and dad came into the room and they told Baelyn to sit down and they told Baelyn that they were going camping. She was like, “Yey for me.” That was the highlight of her day. After a few days, they were all set and packed. When they were on their way, she was asleep in the car, but when she woke up they were pulling into the camping station. They all jumped out of the car. They stayed the night all night and after days went by they were having so much fun. Then the night before they were leaving, they were all exhausted. They all fell asleep really fast. The next morning they left and came home and opened the door and a lot of people jumped out and said, “Surprise.” They were very happy! The End Kyndra Wood Nashville Elementary, grade 4 Summer Mrs. Mercer to the office, the intercom announced just as the summer bell rang! I was feeling a bit sick. luckily was still going on. I usually ride the bus or get picked up. It was a stormy day. We heard a big boom coming from across the street! We looked outside and all you could see was black smoke and you heard really loud frogs. People were thinking about how the gas station went up in flames. Frogs came to the school gym. They were really big, gigantic frogs! They also had teeth. They came after me! I woke up and realized I had fallen asleep outside. It must have been the noise I was hearing while I was sleeping. Michael Busby Nashville Elementary, grade 4 The Missing Summer One day it started snowing on the first day of summer. Everybody caught there houses on fire and started fighting.
