As summer weather arrives with seriously warm temps in the 90s, it’s best to get an early morning start on your exercise for the day. We have dropped our start times back to 7:30 AM to help accomplish that goal. If you no longer have the time for that second cup of coffee before playing POP Tennis, you’re forgiven if you miss a shot or two. Come on out to the courts and join in the fun. Counting points and calories is what we do to keep you in shape.

Attendance has increased for table tennis while room availability has decreased. Many other clubs are now using rooms that were originally designated for table tennis. As a result, our schedule for play fluctuates considerably, and it is recommended that players call Catalina Vista at 520-8258613 for room availability the day they want to play.
Please note that Tuesdays, 1:30-3:30 PM, are reserved for women only.

Tennis Club members gathered at the spring social last month. We celebrated and welcomed 30 new members to the SCOV Tennis Club who joined since the beginning of the tennis season this past year. Our growing tennis club outpaces the USTA impressive growth of tennis nationwide and is the biggest increase in two years. Welcome new members. A study by Medicareful living, found that senior tennis players “displayed high aerobic capacity, greater bone density, lower body fat, and more strength.” Another study found that “playing tennis may increase your life expectancy by nearly 10 years,” not to mention the health benefits of good company and fun. So dust off that racket and come join in the game. There is always room for more at any skill level. If you are interested in the great sport of tennis, or joining any one of the organized tennis groups, contact Jim Benshoof (listed above) for all available days and times. Wallyball Pres. Wallyball is volleyball played on a racquetball court with three to five players on a side. Players use the side walls to create angles, but the ball cannot hit the ceiling or the back wall of the opposing team. It is a terrific aerobic activity that tones muscles and improves coordination and balance.
Come join to see if this game is for you. Men and women are welcome, and tryouts are encouraged. We play on Tuesdays and Fridays from 1-3 PM. It’s great fun and we look forward to seeing you there. Recreational play is for anyone regardless of their ability. Some advanced players play on recreational days, but the pace is more casual so anyone can participate. Competitive play is for the more advanced players. The most important component for playing is laughter, laughing at each other or even ourselves when we miss an easy shot. If you are curious stop by, but bring your suit because you may be compelled to join the fun.
