Architectural Review Jim Cherry 612-805-5637 ARC@suncityorovalley.com Zoom meetings Second and Fourth Tue., 2 PM

The new Revised Development Standards have been approved by the Board of Directors. Please take a look at the changes that continue making our community high on the list of desirability. Members > Documents > Development Standards.

Mountain views obstructed by trees continue to be a major concern with the homeowners in our community. The objective is not to get rid of trees and bushes, it is to be aware of the views they might block. The Development Standards has a list of prohibited plant species and also a new list of approved trees that hopefully will be used if you are considering a new plant. As you are all aware, water is a valued commodity in our world today, so please consider this when planting. We moved to the desert because of its beauty, so why not plant drought-tolerant cacti and succulents?

For submittals pertaining to home expansions and patio covers, Board Policy 006-002 has been revised for clarity and to simplify preparing an application. The privacy walls section has been expanded to allow tubes matching your slatted patio cover to cascade downward along the sides of your patio. Acceptable colors have also been added to slatted patio covers, and window colors have expanded to include black, the new bronze and cream. Permit guidelines have been established so you can plan accordingly with your vendors.

Continuing the desirability of our community does not happen unless you become involved. Please consider joining the ARC team, a great way of meeting neighbors and having a fun and rewarding experience. Artisan Center Renovation Task Force Chair Tim Kelley tkelleyscov@gmail.com See SCOV calendar for meeting dates, time and location

The Artisan Center Renovation Task Force (ACRTF) meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month as needed. The SCOV website will have current meeting notices. The current ACRTF practice is for ACRTF members and up to 15 guests to attend in person. All others may attend via Zoom.

An updated version of “A Discussion of the Existing and Future Facility Requirements for the Artisan Clubs of SCOV” is available on the SCOV website.

The SCOV website (go to Members > Committees > ACRTF) provides the ACRTF Charter and other information for the task force.

Community Directory Chair Lisa Collins 812-344-4773 scov.community.directory@gmail.com www.scovaz.com/members/services/directory

Our Community Directory is on the SCOV website, and it’s updated every month. Remember, new homeowners are unlisted by default, even if you moved within SCOV. To update your listing in the directory, the preferred method is to complete the online form “Change your directory listing.” Otherwise, you can fill out an orange card at the Welcome Center.

Do you have a gorgeous photo of a SCOV setting that would be perfect for the cover of our Community Directory? It’s time for our annual paper directory cover contest. Submit your best SCOV photo by Sunday, June 19. Go to www. scovaz.com/members/services/miscellaneous/ and click on SCOV Photo Contest Form. Your masterpiece could end up on the cover of the Community Directory or the Tipster.

Featured artists for May are Don Jovag and Elaine Woods.

Don is known for his food-safe wooden bowls and platters that feature intricate designs created with different colors and varieties of wood. When you feel one of these bowls, you get an appreciation for the quality of his work and his meticulous attention to detail. Don also makes beautiful and durable wooden bracelets, hoop earrings, charcuterie boards and urns.

Elaine Woods is a gourd sculptor. After carving the gourd, she dyes the outside, drills holes around the gourd, then prepares pine needles, softening them to a certain pliability to be able to work with them.

Elaine also makes silver pendants from the prickly inside of the cleaned gourd, using the lost wax casting method. They look very detailed, lacy and delicate.

Please come in and enjoy the work of all our wonderful resident artists in a cool space on a hot day.

The Loan Room is a free service to all SCOV residents and is open from 8-9 AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The website is available to list the types of equipment we have available, and you may also come in to look at items when we are open. Reservations may be made up to two months in advance either on the website or by coming to the Loan Room. This is the time of year when many of our residents are away for an extended period, so if you have equipment from us, please be sure to return it before leaving. Please do not leave items outside the doors when we are not open, and do not ask the maintenance personnel to open the door for you. We need you to come in so we can credit you with your return. Please come in to see what we have available to meet your needs.
