The program documents Cuban ball players’ presence in the budding American professional leagues of the late 1800s, and their impact on American baseball in the early 20th century. Reel South Gimme a Faith follows Hao Zhang, who upon arriving in North Carolina to study filmmaking, discovered a unique community of Chinese students, connected by a newly discovered evangelical Christianity that is at stark odds with their communist roots in China.
