Fellow Citizens, I am not wanting in respect for the fathers of this republic. The signers of the Declaration of Independence were brave men. They were great men, too Ñ great enough to give frame to a great age. It does not often happen to a nation to raise, at one time, such a number of truly great men. The point from which I am compelled to view them is not, certainly, the most favorable; and yet I cannot contemplate their great deeds with less than admiration. They were statesmen, patriots and heroes, and for the good they did, and the principles they contended for, I will unite with you to honor their memory.... ...Fellow-citizens, pardon me, allow me to ask, why am I called upon to speak here to-day? In a case like that, the dumb might eloquently speak, and the “lame man leap as an hart.” But such is not the state of the case. I say it with a sad sense of the disparity between us. I am not included within the pale of glorious anniversary! Your high independence only reveals the immeasurable distance between us. The blessings in which you, this day, rejoice, are not enjoyed in common. Ñ The rich inheritance of justice, liberty, prosperity and independence, bequeathed by your fathers, is shared by you, not by me. The sunlight that brought light and healing to you, has brought stripes and death to me. This Fourth July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice, I must mourn. To drag a man in fetters into the grand illuminated temple of liberty, and call upon him to join you in joyous anthems, were inhuman mockery and sacrilegious irony. Do you mean, citizens, to mock me, by asking me to speak to-day? If so, there is a parallel to your conduct. Recently, Our Weekly ran a story about a group of teen girls who were strip searched and chastised at a middle school on the East Coast. No apparent reason was given by the school’s administration, except that the girls – who were Black and Latino – were giggling and boisterous in a school hallway.

‘Adultification’ of Black girls It’s being called “the criminalization of Black girls.” It’s also being referred to as the “adultification of Black girls.” Does it stem from racism or prejudice? Or can it be attributed to research that suggests Black girls are perceived as maturing at a faster rate than their White counterparts (in general) and thus seem beyond their age. Another point to be made is that Black kids (girls and boys) tend to ask more questions of authority than White kids. Suspensions of Black girls from schools are often driven by teacher bias and insufficient mental health resources, says a report from AmericanProgress.org published in 2017. They also occur when students break school rules that are inherently racially biased. For example, a charter school in Massachusetts suspended two Black sisters for wearing natural braided hairstyles, which violated the school dress code. As recent as last week, a report was issued by Georgetown Law’s Center on Poverty and Inequality that details stunning statistics and first-hand accounts of how American society and our education system are stacking the odds against young girls of color.

The plaintiffs condemn statements made by San Diego Housing Commission’s CEO who referred to voucher level setting policies aimed at de-segregation as “social engineering.” The lawsuit is San Diego Superior Court case number 2019-12582. The plaintiffs are NAACP San Diego Branch, San Diego Tenant Union, and Darlisa McDowell. The plaintiffs’ attorneys are Parisa Ijadi-Maghsoodi, Bryan Pease, and James Crosby.
Rep. Bass, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, says her and her colleagues are aware and working on legislation to combat the trend. “I am focusing here in Congress on prison reform from the perspective of African-American women and children. It’s not shocking what our numbers are when you see how the labeling starts at a young age.” As early as age 5, Black girls are reportedly viewed by adults as more knowledgeable about sex and adult topics, less in need of nurture and support, and significantly older than White girls of the same age. The excessive discipline Black children experience for offenses such as disruptive behavior and tantrums makes them 10 times more likely to face discipline, retention or even incarceration later in life, reports AmericanProgress.org. Indeed, that study and Rep. Bass are not off the mark. The recent Georgetown study found that adults saw Black girls age 5-19 years as more “independent” and that they knew more about adult topics, such as sex. This biased outlook means that adults – such as educators – had the inclination to believe Black girls need less protection and support, and more discipline.
More children being held back In addition, research from the Council of State Governments Justice Center concluded that Black girls are at greater risk of dropping out or being held back, which in turn leads to a three-fold increase in the chances of becoming entangled in the juvenile justice system, and later, in the adult system.
“In blocking Trump’s ability to add a citizenship question, the court has ensured that voting rights for people of color are protected, and that all communities – regardless of race, ethnicity, geographic location, religious views, political affiliation, and country of origin – are fairly represented,” Waters said. House Majority Whip James Clyburn (DSC), said the future of the nation’s democracy was at the forefront of the ruling. “The ruling in favor of partisan gerrymandering underscores the necessity of citizen participation in the electoral process. Stacking the deck for partisan gain is not ideal for democracy or the principle of one person, one vote,” Clyburn said in a statement. “Most Americans believe in fairness and due process, but not enough are able to participate in the electoral process. This must

One Hundred and Sixty Seven years ago Frederick Douglas gave a Fourth of July speech in Rochester New York. This was 80 some years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. It’s more than interesting to look at the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence which reads: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, THAT ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL, THAT THEY ARE ENDOWED BY THEIR CREATOR WITH
“That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government…” The declaratory statement that “all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights” says everything about the humanity of all men that makes the words “Diversity, Inclusion, and Equality” redundant in our modern day quest for those rights, which we still do not fully enjoy even though they have already been guaranteed. Frederick Douglas’ question at Rochester, New York in 1852: “ What today is your Fourth of July to me?,” appears to need an answer once again for some, in spite of the contributions
of Blacks to the building and protecting of this nation. From the death of Cripus Attuckus (the first black man to die in the Revolutionary War) to the countless who have died in our cities and on the battlefields, we have bled and paid the price of freedom with our lives. Today our sacrifice has moved to encounters with law enforcement in our cities and communities where the least confrontation now results in death. Perhaps along-side the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, today we should be reminded of what others endured to make possible the freedom we take for granted. Perhaps we need to be aware that some would take our freedoms if we allow them to do so and we must stop acting as if the battle is over. Please, if you have not done so, read the Frederick Douglas speech or read it again if you have done so. Enjoy the holiday, but don’t forget the struggle. It’s not over.
Trump has taken a leadership position in Penal Reform. This is a very big “game changer” in the social arena of our culture. We should embrace it and allow it to flourish and succeed. A prosecution process that leads to no cure or rehabilitation is perpetual hell for offenders. They are doomed to fail at rehabilitation and become “lost” in a societal “wilderness.” By Harry C. Growing up in America can be a very risky business for Black males. Too many—perhaps a majority—of young Black males get mentally “scared” from a court system that targets them for eternal struggle. It’s called the United States Penal System. It can be a very evil system designed to target Blacks and keep them under control. Why? Perhaps it is a method of keeping economic control of a population. People with criminal records normally cannot find economic success in our society. A criminal record equates to designed failure and poverty. As we evolve America has been improving in how it treats its minority population. President
A great book about this is written by Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu and is entitled “Countering the Conspiracy to Destroy Black Boys.” We highly recommend this book for all parents. It is important for Black parents to be alert to the fact that one of the components of early Black slavery was to break up the family unit. The system did this by attacking the male component of any Black family or group. The effects of this multi-century old practice still linger on in American society. In fact, not just America but wherever people of color live in a society that is majority White—Brazil, Columbia, Puerto Rico, England, Italy, wherever. Times are improving. We are getting closer to justice but still have a long way to go. See BOYS page 13

Being ‘black enough’ is not Kamala’s number one issue

“Kamala Harris is *not* an American Black. She is half Indian and half Jamaican. I’m so sick of people robbing American Blacks (like myself) of our history. It’s disgusting. Now using it for debate time at #DemDebate2? These are my people not her people. Freaking disgusting.” Those words tweeted by AfricanAmerican, far-right leaning conspiracy theorist Ali Alexander June 27th elicited a response via re-tweet from Donald Trump, Jr. on Friday night wondering if those allegations were true. After Trump Jr.’s re-tweet, it
circulated throughout rightwing social media circles insinuating Harris was not indeed an American. Trump Jr.’s spokesperson said it was a misunderstanding. However, Alexander’s desired result of his divide-and-conquer strategy employed in the tweet was a dog-whistle designed to derail Harris’s campaign.
Harris successfully dragged Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden into the deep blue sea of race-relations with one sentence during the June 27th Democratic presidential debate:
Far-right conspiracy theorists and their social media accounts soon spread the misinformation across the internet, creating a narrative that Harris is not “black enough” to be president.
In an attempt to introduce herself to a skeptical and unsure national audience, Harris excoriated Biden on his stance on forced busing (the practice of integrating schools in segregated cities by sending black children to schools in white neighborhoods).
Here are the facts: Harris is a first-term senator from Oakland, California. She previously served as district attorney in San Francisco from 2004-2011 and later as California’s Attorney General from 2011-2017. She is the biracial daughter of a Jamaican father (Donald Harris) and an Indian mother (Shyamala Gopalan Harris). Obviously, neither parent is an American; however, Kamala is an American citizen by birthright. Any person born in the United States is unequivocally granted those privileges. Alexander lashed out because

Harris made the issue personal, explaining that she was bused as a child in San Francisco, a fact that has since turned into a viral tweet became buzz-worthy and garnered Harris new supporters across America. According to Harris’s campaign, $2 million dollars were raised 24 hours after the debates. Fellow Democratic candidates Bill de Blasio, Cory Booker, Jay Inslee, Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren, and Biden all tweeted their solidarity for Harris and
their collective disgust with Alexander, Trump Jr. and the right-wing echo chambers. As Paul Harvey would say, “and now, the rest of the story.” According to prognosticators, Harris won round one of the figurative twelve-round boxing matches that is the 2020 Democratic presidential primary last Thursday night. Later in the bout, Harris will undoubtedly have to answer questions regarding her criminal justice record while serving as District Attorney in San Francisco and later as California’s Attorney General. Harris had to play the role of a prosecutor and California’s lawyer in the 1990s when “tough on crime” politics were accepted across party lines, popularized by former U.S. President Bill Clinton. To that end, Harris fought to uphold convictions even though some individuals were proven innocent while simultaneously supporting programs that helped people find jobs instead of putting them in prison. Harris sought to criminalize truancy and support California’s death penalty; conversely, she didn’t
pursue the death penalty for a man that killed a police officer. Coupled with being a Black female attorney general, it is clear Harris the prosecutor and former attorney general was led by the axiom, “be firm, fair and consistent.” Progressives will likely seize on those inconsistencies in the next debate in July by dragging Harris to the figurative deep end of the pool to find out whether or not she will drown with respect to the issue(s) of criminal justice reform, while seeking to label her a cop masquerading as a woke person that claims she’s best equipped to defeat President Donald J. Trump on November 3, 2020. Harris should counter with this statistic: According to a 2015 study by the Women Donors Network, 95 percent of the 2,437 elected state and local prosecutors across the country in 2014 were white, and 79 percent were white men, according to the study. By comparison, white men make up 31 percent of the population of the United States. The data was compiled and analyzed by the Center for Technology and Civic Life. See ELECTION page 13

Donald “Don” Earl Gray was born on August 11, 1944, in Paris, Texas to Bessie Alma Mason and Willie Gray. Donald was the second of four children.
Today we pause in humble submission to the will of our Father in heaven, who in his perfect timing, has called home to eternity one of his own, Harold Patton, Jr. Harold’s early journey began February 22, 1969 in Lafayette, LA to Clora Ann Barnett and Harold Patton, Sr. He was the youngest of three children.
Wendy Warras was born along with her twin sister Wanda in Menominee, Michigan on July 20, 1972. They were the proud daughters of Connie and David Warras. Wendy attended Menominee High School, where she graduated in 1990. After graduation she joined the United States Navy and served her country for eight years, along with her brother David Warras. After completing her military career Wendy gave birth to two beautiful girls, Aryanna and a few years later, Ashlyn. As a single mother, Wendy was a very devoted and determined mother. She was such a passionate woman in whatever she set her mind to do. No words can describe how much of an impact she made in her time here on earth. The world is a better place because she passed through here. Wendy worked for AT&T, ManPower, and the San Diego School District over the years. Wendy enjoyed club soccer and spending time with her daughters. Wendy transitioned from this world on June 10, 2019 and joins her mother and father in her heavenly home. She leaves to cherish her memory her precious daughters Aryanna and Ashlyn; fiancé James Sablan; four siblings Jodi (Mike) Baker, David J. (Kathy Johnson) Warras, Kieth (Jen) Warras, and Wanda (Brian) Mottl; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Don was a beloved varsity high school athlete and Captain of the Gibbons High School Varsity Football Team. He was well known around Paris, Texas as “Waxey” nicknamed for his shiny skin. Waxey worked in the meatpacking plant and picked cotton to help support his family. Soon after graduation, instead of accepting one of the many football scholarships he had received from universities such as Oklahoma State, he opted to enlist in the U.S. Navy. In 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Bobbie Jean Washington. After completing boot camp in San Diego, he valiantly served along with his brother Troy Gray on the USS McCormick, a Naval Destroyer. Their tour included the Vietnam War. In 1967, Don was honorably discharged for health reasons. Soon thereafter, he began working for the Department of Defense. Over his thirty-plus year career as a civil servant, he worked in several positions, rising to the ranks of a Supervisor Analyst at North Island Naval Air Station. He retired in 1999. In 1986, Don joined his beloved Christian Fellowship Congregational Church where he dedicated several decades of faithful service. At Christian Fellowship, he served many roles, including serving on the Diaconate and Evangelism Board, Church Council, Trustee Board, Choir and Men’s Ministry, and chef extraordinaire. He loved to barbeque at church functions. Don was also an active member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Choir of San Diego, Fidelity Lodge #10, Prince Hall Freemasonry, and other local groups. Don was an outgoing, energetic, loving, and kind family man. He was full of life and had a positive aura. His loving personality, infectious laugh, and bright, beautiful smile made everyone around him feel better. Even the neighborhood kids called him “grandad.” Famously known for his thick mustache, Don was a compassionate and caring person who opened his heart and doors to everyone. He loved cooking and truly believed his BBQ ribs and fried catfish were the best. Don enjoyed a variety of activities including daily walks around Chollas Lake with his buddies, fishing, and watching Jerry Springer and old western cowboy movies. He also loved playing the lottery and visited 7/11 daily. On June 8, 2019, Don and Bobbie celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. The Lord called Don home on Tuesday, June 18th after a four-year battle with ALS and dementia. He passed away holding the hand of his devoted wife. Don leaves to celebrate his life: wife, Bobbie Gray; daughters, Pamela Gray Payton and Linda Diane Behn; sons, Craig D. Gray and Derryck E. Gray; son-in-law, Jerome C. Payton; daughter-in-law, Caroline Sanchez; brother, Troy Gray; sister-in-law, Annie Faye Gray; grandchildren, Jason Behn, Terence Hasten, Brittany A. Harvey, Anthony G. Gray, Brandyn A. Harvey, Derryck E, Gray Jr, Siqualah M. Behn, Tania M. Gray, Kitana E. Gray, and Briajah C. Payton; great-grandchildren, Keaton, Lauren, Ja’carius, Anthony, Jr., Jordan, Amdyn, Xavier, and Amir. He also leaves his beloved adopted niece Charis Chambers and her mother, Carrie Garnett. Don’s spirit was boundless. Everyone who knew him loved and respected him. Although Don’s passing hurts, we can hold on to our memories of him; knowing that he lived and loved life to the fullest. Donald is survived by a host of relatives and family friends who will miss him dearly.
Harold accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age in Shreveport, LA. He received his formal education from Shreveport and Many, Louisiana Unified School Districts, and graduated from Many High School in 1987. He furthered his education at Grambling State University, the Alma Mater of his mother’s. After attending Grambling, Harold relocated to San Diego, CA to live near his father. Harold worked various jobs in San Diego County from ARC, San Diego Airport, and Na-Com Communication before finding a job that he truly enjoyed. In 2009 he worked as a truck driver for a number of trucking and logistics companies until he found the one company that he enjoyed working for, Blue Lighting Logistics Co., which he worked for until his passing. In 1994 he met his soulmate Regina Jackson. The two were united in Holy Matrimony in 1995 and were blessed with a union lasting twenty- four years. Harold was a loyal friend, a faithful husband, and a proud father. He couldn’t be prouder, or happier with his sons. He loved to barbecue, cook gumbo. He was just a humorous, generous, and kind man who loved the Lord, his family, and friends.
On Tuesday, June 11, 2019 Harold was called from his earthly labor to eternal rest. Although Harold physical body is gone, he is still with us and will live in our hearts and minds forever. We are all God’s children; some of us are loaned out for a little longer than others. Only God knows when He is ready for us. So let us celebrate all the good times and the memories we shared during the time Harold was with us. Preceding him in death were parents; grandparents Essie Bell and Edward Barrett; and aunt Connie White. Harold leaves to cherish his wonderful memories; wife Regina Jackson-Patton; three sons Jamorrius Hollins of Natchitoches, LA, Keion Patton, and KaJahn Patton of San Diego, CA; brother Warren Smith (Tanya) Many, LA; sister Cyd Texada (Ricky) of Texas; aunts Clara Bell White of Atlanta, GA, Edwina Thomas (Lamar) of Fisher, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will mourn his homegoing, yet celebrate his life.

In 2015 Harold rededicated his life to Christ and joined Greater Life Baptist Church under the spiritual leadership of Pastor Cedric Manley. He also worshipped under the leadership of Interim Pastor Michael Jackson, Elder John Loyd, and Pastor Nate Stewart. He particularly enjoyed fellowshipping with the Man Cave every Saturday that he was home.

Arrangements by Preferred Cremation & Burial Lillie Mae Tillerson was born September 11, 1936, in Talladega, Alabama to Isabell and Charlie Wooden. Lillie accepted the Lord at an early age attending Triump Church in Talladega. Lillie went to Westside Jr. High. Lillie moved to San Diego, California over sixty years ago where she met and was united in matrimony to Frank Tillerson on October 27, 1966. They shared thirty-five years of marriage before her husband passed in 2002. Lillie had one son, Willie Joe and she was blessed with a stepson, Daryl Wayne. Lillie was an Independent Housekeeper for over sixty years until she could no longer work due to health conditions. On Tuesday, June 11, 2019, Lillie Mae Tillerson transitioned from this life to life eternal. She leaves to celebrate her passing two sons, Willie Joe Wooden and Daryl Wayne; her best friend, Gladis Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isabell; two brothers, Willie and J.W., and her husband Frank Tillerson.

Self-Made “Prophet of Freedom” ‘The Pillars of Black America’s Struggle for Justice’ by Latanya West
Douglass fame and influence grew as the abolitionist movement and the political winds of change brought the issue of slavery to the forefront of American politics. His second autobiography, My Bondage and My Freedom, is a more detailed account of his life as a slave and his evolution as a thinking, self-made man who valued faith and literacy. When the Civil War broke out, Douglass’ morally persuasive arguments against slavery was at the vanguard of slavery’s demise.
Frederick Douglass is arguably one of the most influential figures in American history. An internationally renowned orator, statesman, antislavery crusader, and author, the child born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, came to exemplify what is best and most enduring about American ideals and the promise of our country’s constitution. Douglass used words to eloquently and unapologetically speak, write, and educate northern whites about American slavery. He unapologetically named in detail after detail slavery’s horrific injustices, white slavemasters’ and even religious abolitionists’’ moral ineptitude, and called to task northern whites who turned a blind eyed to slavery’s insidiousness. He called on all Americans to look directly and unflinchingly at slavery’s cost, not only for America’s slaves, but also for the entire nation. At a time when freedom was only a vague promise on the horizon for most black Americans, Douglass was a resounding voice of hope, justice, and dignity for African Americans. He elevated the national discussion on slavery, helping to hasten its demise. Here is a brief biography of the man known as the “Prophet of Freedom”: EARLY LIFE
Douglass’ early life was lonely and tragic. Born a slave sometime in 1818 in Talbot County, Maryland, Frederick Douglass’ father was rumored to be his mother’s white slave owner. His mother, who was enslaved on a nearby plantation, would walk twelve miles to visit her son until her untimely death when Frederick was a young boy. Viewed as property to be bought, sold, or transferred in ownership, Douglass was hired out as cheap labor to a number of slave masters. Long before his physical freedom, Frederick was liberated by the power of words. Ignoring the laws of the times, one of Frederick’s slave mistresses taught him the alphabet. It proved to be a transformative event in Douglass’ life. He recounts in his 1845 bestselling autobiography that “Learning the alphabet gave me the key to reading; I took that key and, with a little help from my friends, learned how to read, thus becoming a free man in my
mind.” With an audacious sense of purpose that flowered as he matured into adulthood, the young Frederick convinced his white childhood friends to teach him to read and write in exchange for food. He read at every opportunity, even after being sold into hard slave labor in rural Maryland. His steely desire for knowledge never faltered. He soon organized a Sunday school for fellow slaves and quickly earned a reputation for being a headstrong troublemaker. In 1836, Douglass impersonated a sailor and escaped to freedom during a time when abolitionist fervor was growing across the U.S. He married Anna Murray, a free black woman instrumental in his escape, and settled in New Bedford, Massachusetts. While working as a laborer to support his young family Douglass began to frequent anti-slavery rallies. He was soon up on stage, reluctantly but powerfully sharing his story. VANGUARD OF THE RIGHTS MOVEMENT
When Douglass spoke, national leaders paid attention. Douglass outspokenly called for the right of black men to fight for their freedom and boldly petitioned President Lincoln for the fair and equal treatment of African American men in uniform. He helped recruit troops for the first official Civil War infantry of free northern black men. Immortalized in the 1989 movie Glory, the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment significantly contributed to the war’s effort in the famed fight for Fort Wagner and helped legitimize black troops. Never one to shy away from controversy, Douglass was also an early supporter of the women’s suffrage movement. LATER YEARS
Douglass’ first autobiography, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, mentioned details about his life as a slave, including the name and residence of his former master. To avoid recapture, Frederick spent two years touring and lecturing to abolitionists in Great Britain. The tour earned him international fame and he returned to the States intent on helping African Americans gain the freedoms he enjoyed while abroad. In 1847 he began publication on The North Star, his uniquely successful and influential anti-slavery newspaper, so named for the bright star said to guide fugitive slaves to freedom along the Underground Railroad. In numerous speeches, writings, and publications, Douglass doggedly promoted the end of slavery. During this time, Douglass was also a conductor on the Rochester, New York arm of the Underground Railroad. He recounts in his 1882 autobiography, The Life and Times of Frederick Douglass, that his home served as one of the Underground Railroad’s main stations and helped spirit runaway slaves to Canada and freedom.

Since the founding of the Black Press 192 years ago, African American-owned newspapers have served their communities in ways that no other publications have. Historically, these publications have operated on “shoe-string” budgets, are usually understaffed, and also face other severe limitations. Yet, the Black Press always has maintained its mission as the voice of Black America. That tradition has held true through many transitions and has continued during the 79-year history of the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA). The NNPA is the trade organization representing America’s Black-owned newspapers and media companies. The organization’s members serve millions of readers that rely on the Black Press to provide content not regularly found in other media.

1841 proved to be a fateful year for Douglass. He gave his first major speech at the Massachusetts AntiSlavery Society’s annual convention and launched his influential career as an antislavery crusader. The famed abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison was so moved by Frederick’s magnetic stage presence and powerful personal story that he enlisted him to lecture with the American Anti-Slavery Society at meeting halls across the Eastern and Midwestern United States. It was often dangerous work. Douglas became known for his clear, direct, and articulate oratory style. He spoke truthfully and eloquently about his life as a slave, sometimes inciting riotous mobs that weren’t ready to face the American south’s horrifying and morally inept “peculiar institution.”

For many, the Black Press is just as essential to the culture of the community as the Black church.
After the Civil War, the former slave continued his appointment with destiny. In the mid-1870’s, Douglass moved to Washington, DC and served in a number of prominent presidential appointments: U.S. Marshall (1877 – 1881) and Recorder of Deeds for the District of Columbia (1881 – 1886). He was chargé d’affaires for Santo Domingo and minister to Haiti (18891891). In 1874 he was appointed President of the Freedman’s Savings and Trust Company, popularly known as the Freedman’s Savings Bank, the first savings institution established by the U.S. government to assist former slaves and AfricanAmerican Civil War veterans during the Reconstruction era. Buoyed by the Civil War victory but bitterly disturbed by the failures of Reconstruction, Douglass was a vigorous opponent of Jim Crow segregation until his death from a heart attack in 1895. ENDURING LEGACY Cedar Hill, Douglass’ family home, is maintained as a part of the National Park Service and was designated a National Historic Site in 1988. His great great grand daughter Nettie Washington Douglass established the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives to preserve his legacy and create awareness about modern day slavery, which today affects an estimated 27 million people worldwide. “It is undeniable that the Black church and the Black Press have been, and continue to be, the foundational pillars of Black America’s long struggle for freedom, justice, equality and empowerment,” said NNPA President and CEO Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr. “We know first-hand the power of the pen and we remain committed to helping to ensure and to mentor the next generation of freedomfighting publishers, editors and journalists,” Chavis said. On March 16, 1827, The Rev. Samuel Cornish and John Russwurm made history by publishing “Freedom’s Journal,” the nation’s first Black newspaper. Circulated in 11 states and in Europe, Canada and Haiti, “Freedom’s Journal” provided international, national and local details pertinent to the Black community. They denounced slavery and lynching and, among the many features that endeared the newspaper to its readers, were African American communitybased marriage, birth and death announcements. Soon, other Black-owned papers like the Savannah Tribune, The Afro-American in Baltimore, the Indianapolis Recorder, and The Philadelphia Tribune began publishing. Those newspapers and others, like the Pittsburgh Courier, the New Journal and Guide in Virginia, and The Kansas City Call, have maintained the tradition and continue to deliver news and
insights today. The NNPA honors the history and legacy of the Black Press via The Black Press Archives and Gallery of Distinguished Publishers at Howard University. As community-focused publishers, the news that appears in NNPA’s member publications affects the day-to-day lives of their readership. For example, in Dallas, Texas, where voters recently elected a new mayor, U.S. congressman and Dallas County District Attorney. “We regularly inform our readers on the bills and positions offered by our new congressman and last year, we featured several stories on criminal justice and bail reform,” said the paper’s publisher Thurman Jones. The Toledo Journal Newspaper in Toledo, Ohio, has been publishing since 1975 and, like the content found throughout its pages, its slogan is an attention-grabber: “Everybody is Somebody in The Toledo Journal.” “This has made a difference in making our Black community feel important,” said the newspaper’s publisher, Sandra S. Stewart. “Over the years, we have had an impact in the areas of business, political, social, recreational, religious, and sports, in our community. So, our readers believe in us and know we are fair to our community,” she said. The impact of the legacy, history and challenges met and overcome by members of the Black Press has not been lost on or squandered by today’s NNPA members. While the Black Press has expanded to include cities and communities throughout the country, including New York, Washington, South Carolina, New Orleans, St. Louis, Chicago, Texas, and California, member publishers have continued to live up to the civil rights mantra of “Soldiers without Swords.”

How can we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land? If I forget thee, 0 Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth.” Fellow-citizens, above your national, tumultuous joy, I hear the mournful wail of millions! whose chains, heavy and grievous yesterday, are, to-day, rendered more intolerable by the jubilee shouts that reach them. If I do forget, if I do not faithfully remember those bleeding children of sorrow this day, “may my right hand forget her cunning, and may my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth!” To forget them, to pass lightly over their wrongs, and to chime in with the popular theme, would be treason most scandalous and shocking, and would make me a reproach before God and the world. Standing with God and the crushed and bleeding slave on this occasion, I will, in the name of humanity which is outraged, in the name of liberty which is fettered, in the name of the constitution and the Bible which are disregarded and trampled upon, dare to call in question and to denounce, with all the emphasis I can command, everything that serves to perpetuate slavery Ñ the great sin and shame of America! “I will not equivocate; I will not excuse”; I will use the severest language I can command; and yet not one word shall escape me that any man, whose judgment is not blinded by prejudice, or who is not at heart a slaveholder, shall not confess to be right and just. But I fancy I hear some one of my audience say, “It is just in this circumstance that you and your brother abolitionists fail to make a favorable impression on the public mind. Would you argue more, an denounce less; would you persuade more, and rebuke less; your cause would be much more likely to succeed.” But, I submit, where all is plain there is nothing to be argued. What point in the antislavery creed would you have me argue? On what branch of the subject do the people of this country need light? Must I undertake to prove that the slave is a man? That point is conceded already. Nobody doubts it. The slaveholders themselves acknowledge it in the enactment of laws for their government. They acknowledge it when they punish disobedience on the part of the slave. There are seventy-two crimes in the State of Virginia which, if committed by a black man (no matter how ignorant he be), subject him to the punishment of death; while only two of the same crimes will subject a white man to the like punishment. What is this but the acknowledgment that the slave is a moral, intellectual, and responsible being? The manhood of the slave is conceded. It is admitted in the fact that Southern statute books are covered with enactments forbidding, under severe fines and penalties, the teaching of the slave to read or to write. When you can point to any such laws in reference to the beasts of the field, then I may consent to argue the manhood of the slave. When the dogs in your streets, when the fowls of the air, when the cattle on your hills, when the fish of the sea, and the reptiles that crawl, shall be unable to distinguish the slave from a brute, then will I argue with you that the slave is a man! For the present, it is enough to affirm the equal manhood of the Negro race. Is it not astonishing that, while we are ploughing, planting, and reaping, using all kinds of mechanical tools, erecting houses, constructing bridges, building ships, working in metals of brass, iron, copper, silver and gold; that, while we are reading, writing and ciphering, acting as clerks, merchants and secretaries, having among us lawyers, doctors, ministers, poets, authors, editors, orators and teachers; that, while we are engaged in all manner of enterprises common to other men, digging gold in California, capturing the whale in the Pacific, feeding sheep and cattle on the hill-side, living, moving, acting, thinking, planning, living in families as husbands, wives and children, and, above all, confessing and worshipping the Christian’s God, and looking hopefully for life and immortality beyond the grave, we are called upon to prove that we are men! Would you have me argue that man is entitled to liberty? that he is the rightful owner of his own body? You have already declared it. Must I argue the wrongfulness of slavery? Is that a question for Republicans? Is it to be settled by the rules of logic and argumentation, as a matter beset with great difficulty, involving a doubtful application of the principle of justice, hard to be understood? How should I look to-day, in the presence of Amercans, dividing, and subdividing a discourse, to show that men have a natural right to freedom? speaking of it relatively and positively, negatively and affirmatively. To do so, would be to make myself ridiculous, and to offer an insult to your understanding. There is not a man beneath the canopy of heaven that does not know that slavery is wrong for him. What, am I to argue that it is wrong to make men brutes, to rob them of their liberty, to work them without wages, to keep them ignorant of their relations to their fellow men, to beat them with sticks, to flay their flesh with the lash, to load their limbs with irons, to hunt them with dogs, to sell them at auction, to sunder their families, to knock out their teeth, to burn their flesh, to starve them into obedience and submission to their mastcrs? Must I argue that a system thus marked with blood, and stained with pollution, is wrong? No! I will not. I have better employment for my time and strength than such arguments would imply. What, then, remains to be argued? Is it that slavery is not divine; that God did not establish it; that our doctors of divinity are mistaken? There is blasphemy in the thought. That which is inhuman, cannot be divine! Who can reason on such a proposition? They that can, may; I cannot. The time for such argument is passed.

At a time like this, scorching irony, not convincing argument, is needed. O! had I the ability, and could reach the nation’s ear, I would, to-day, pour out a fiery stream of biting ridicule, blasting reproach, withering sarcasm, and stern rebuke. For it is not light that is needed, but fire; it is not the gentle shower, but thunder. We need the storm, the whirlwind, and the earthquake. The feeling of the nation must be quickened; the conscience of the nation must be roused; the propriety of the nation must be startled; the hypocrisy of the nation must be exposed; and its crimes against God and man must be proclaimed and denounced. What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer; a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciation of tyrants, brass fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade and solemnity, are, to Him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy -- a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of the United States, at this very hour. From Boston to London is now a holiday excursion. Space is comparatively annihilated. -- Thoughts expressed on one side of the Atlantic are distinctly heard on the other. The far off and almost fabulous Pacific rolls in grandeur at our feet. The Celestial Empire, the mystery of ages, is being solved. The fiat of the Almighty, “Let there be Light,” has not yet spent its force. No abuse, no outrage whether in taste, sport or avarice, can now hide itself from the all-pervading light. The iron shoe, and crippled foot of China must be seen in contrast with nature. Africa must rise and put on her yet unwoven garment. ‘Ethiopia, shall, stretch. out her hand unto Ood.” In the fervent aspirations of William Lloyd Garrison, I say, and let every heart join in saying it: God speed the year of jubilee The wide world o’er! On Wednesday June 26th 2019, Black Men & Women United hosted an open forum in which their primary focus was to address the concerns of the disproportionately low testing rates of the black and Latinx community at San Diego City College and discuss solutions to improve student achievement and success within the college community. The forum was attended by many community leaders, counselors, parents, professors, and several professional business men and women. The keynote speaker was Dr. Ricky Shabazz, President of San Diego City College, who was accompanied by his wonderful administrative team. Dr. Shabazz started off by speaking anecdotally and sharing his personal experience as a black student who was a product of community college and achieved success with the help of college programs and mentors who helped him along the way. He then addressed the issues surrounding black and Latinx academic success and later spoke about his plan and goals to help improve the success rates of students within these groups.
Part of Shabazz’s addressed plan includes The College Promise program that would allow students to attend Community College for two years free of charge. Shabazz continued his discussion by mentioning the 200 plus certificates and degrees that City College currently offers. After Dr. Shabazz’s initial presentation, he opened up the floor for attendees to ask questions pertaining to the topic. Several members engaged and asked questions that Dr. Ricky Shabazz did an excellent job answering. The forum ended on a great note with an overall satisfaction of the event. Members of Black Men &Women United would like to thank Dr. Ricky Shabazz for bringing his administrative staff to the community of Southeast San Diego. His message was well delivered and accepted by the community. This effort brings us one step closer to bridging the gap between the community and the college institution. This forum was only the start of our journey towards equitable education for all and we look forward to creating more opportunities to bring community members and college administrators together to achieve our shared goal of increased success of black and latinx students at San Diego City College District.

I am seeking volunteers to take part in a study as part of a requirement to complete my doctoral program at Walden University. I am interested in understanding how expulsion from high school influenced the post-expulsion education decisions of minority males of color and white males. PARTICIPATION: Voluntary and no compensation is offered. You do not have to provide any personal identifying information and data will only be reported in a summary form (no way to identify what participant shared what information). ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Must meet ALL three: 1. African American, Latino, or White Male between the ages of 18-23 at time of participation, 2. Attended a high school in California, and 3. Expelled from a California high school during the school years ending in 2012-2015. Kathleen Hale was honored by friends and family on her 90th birthday on June 30th, 2019 at the Marina Village Resort in Mission Beach. Kathleen Hale was born in Bakersfield, California on June 28, 1929 and has been a resident of the San Diego community since 1945. Kathleen Hale became the wife of Lloyd R.V. Hale in 1945 and this marriage was blessed with three children, eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was both a wife and mother, who has been active in the church and civic responsibilities while including more than 30 years with Montgomery Ward. Kathleen Hale received numerous awards and commendations: San Diego City Schools, Meals on Wheels, community service programs, and continue to serve on her church’s finance committee for more than 25 years. She has demonstrated her dedication to the welfare of others, earning the respect and affection of people from many walks of life. Presidential Debate House Adopts Rep. Vargas Watch Party at Jacobs DREAMers’ FHA Backed Loans Amendment Center Engages Southeast Youth

About 20 young people came out to the Jacobs Center to attend watch parties for the first series of Democratic Presidential Debates last week. Sponsored by Youth Will, a local San Diego nonprofit committed to building youth-directed leadership to encourage youth to reach their full potential, the event was, according to the organization, a “kickoff event” for its “Summer of Youth Power campaign.” The group hopes to “inspire a new Regional Child and Youth Development Master Plan for San Diego, according to a spokesperson for the organization. After the debates, attendees engaged in a lively political discussion about the candidates. Though the turnout was small, let’s hope the word gets out and more youth-centered watch parties are in store. Our youth certainly need to be engaged this coming election year.

On Monday, June 24, the House of Representatives adopted Rep. Juan Vargas’ (CA-51) amendment to the fiscal year 2020 minibus funding bill. The amendment would prohibit any funds from being used to bar or limit Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) beneficiaries, “DREAMers,” from receiving mortgage loans backed by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) – solely on the basis of their status. Rep. Pete Aguilar (CA-31) is a co-sponsor of the amendment. According to a recent report by the Pew Research Center, nearly 29% of all active DACA recipients live in California. Though DACA recipients are overwhelming from Mexico and other Latin American countries, there are significant numbers who are from communities within the African diaspora, like those from Brazil, the Domnican Republic, and Jamaica. Rep. Vargas’ amendment is included in the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies bill which funds the Department of Transportation, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and other agencies, including the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness.
New E. coli Case Possibly Linked to Animals at Fair
“Within minutes of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) reversing its interpretation of its lending policy, DACA beneficiaries and their families were immediately blocked from homeownership – effectively ending their dreams of owning a home,” said Rep. Juan Vargas. “I am pleased that the House of Representatives has adopted my amendment to prohibit HUD from discriminating against DREAMers on the basis of their status.”
Vargas represents California’s 51st Congressional District which includes the southern portion of San Diego County, all of Imperial County and California’s entire U.S.-Mexico border. Vargas was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 and is currently serving his fourth term in Congress. He serves on the House Financial Services Committee and House Foreign Affairs Committee.

San Diego City Council Votes to Invalidate Prop B
A new, confirmed case of Shiga-toxinproducing E. coli (STEC) that may be related to animals at the San Diego County Fair has been reported, the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency announced July 2. Meanwhile, lab results have confirmed a previously reported case. The new case is a 6-year-old boy who attended animal displays at the fair on June 22 and started exhibiting symptoms June 26. He was not hospitalized and is now recovering. The previously reported, and now confirmed case, is a 9-year-old who was not hospitalized and has recovered. To date there have been a total of five cases linked to contact with animals at the fair: four confirmed cases and one probable case. “As we continue our investigation, more cases are likely to be reported,” said Wilma J. Wooten, M.D., M.P.H, County public health officer. “This is typical of any public health investigation. Since we asked doctors to be on the lookout for STEC, they are more likely to test patients exhibiting symptoms.” The first four cases—including the death of a 2-year-old boy—were reported by the Health and Human Services Agency late Friday and County health officials recommended that the San Diego County Fair close all animal
exhibits to the public.

On June 10, 2019, the San Diego City Council voted 6 to 3 along party lines to invalidate Proposition B, the controversial bill that affected city employee pensions and attracted national attention as a bellwether on the future of public employee unions.
However, since the incubation period for E. coli is up to 10 days after exposure, and reporting to the health department is often delayed, more cases connected to the fair could be reported through the middle of next week. When to Seek Medical Care
The California Supreme Court ruled in 2018 that Proposition B was placed on the ballot illegally. The City is now required to compensate all city employees whose pensions were affected by the measure with the difference between the 401(k)-style system under Proposition B and the original pension system, plus 7 percent interest.
Most people recover from E. coli without major complications; however, 5 to 10 percent of people diagnosed with STEC develop a life-threatening kidney infection.
In a KPBS interview in March of this year, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer said, “I applaud the appellate court’s decision to uphold the will of San Diego voters by leaving
the city’s landmark pension reform in place. After the June 2019 City Council vote, Keith Maddox, Executive Secretary Treasurer, San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council in issued a statement: “The City Council did right by its workers today by taking the first step toward invalidating a costly initiative that violated the legal rights of city employees and left firefighters, custodians, cement finishers, librarians and all city’s public servants without a secure retirement. After wasting millions of taxpayer dollars in losing lawsuits defending Proposition B - which court after court has ruled was in violation of workers’ rights - today the council chose the only path to provide city workers with the secure retirement they have earned.”

A COLONIAL-ERA LAW THAT OUTLAWED SAME-SEX RELATIONS IS DEFEATED Global Information Network
If a democratic society is characterized by “tolerance, diversity and open-mindedness,” three countries in Africa have now reached that pinnacle. This month, Botswana joined Angola and Mozambique in decriminalizing same-sex relations. High Court Justice Michael Lebruru, in his defining decision, added: “human dignity is harmed when minority groups are marginalized.” The ruling decided a case brought by Letsweletse Motshidiemang, 24, a student at the University of
Botswana. Society has changed, he argued, and Botswana’s colonial-era prohibition on gay sex also needed to change. Mr. Motshidiemang was emotional at the news of his victory. “Of course I wanted to win, but I didn’t expect it,” he said through tears on the phone. “I did it just because I felt it was something I had to do for my community.” While Botswana’s courts were enforcing the archaic law which brought a prison term of up to 7 years, England and Wales had
already lifted these punishments. “We’ve been stuck with these provisions when [the British] have long discarded them,” said Tshiamo Rantao, the lawyer for the Lesbians, Gays & Bisexuals of Botswana (LEGABIBO), an advocacy group that joined the case as a friend of the court.
“Gay men and women do not represent a group or class which at this stage has been shown to require protection under the Constitution,” the Kenyan judges agreed.
Sadly, a similar case in Kenya took a different route. The High Court there upheld that country’s ban on gay sex, finding that “the time has not yet arrived to decriminalize homosexual practices.”
The judges in Botswana firmly disagreed. “As society changes, the law must evolve,” explained Judge Leburu. The law in Botswana, he said, was a “British import” and had been developed “without
consultation of local peoples.” Tshepo Ricki Kgositau, a transgender woman who in 2017 successfully challenged this same court to have the gender marker on her driver’s license changed from male to female, applauded the court’s ruling. “It’s about time Botswana sheds this colonial legacy and interprets its own humanity,” she declared.
NIGERIA RESTORES THE STUDY OF HISTORY IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS – ABSENT FOR A DECADE Global Information Network
The government of Muhammadu Buhari is bringing back the teaching of history in all basic and secondary schools – ending a decade in which departments of history were dismantled or merged into other programs as having little earnings potential for the high school graduate. In a release signed by Sonny Echono, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, all basic and secondary schools in Nigeria immediately were to implement this policy from the next academic calendar. The reversal elicited a gale of questions. Why would Nigeria make such a
questionable move, erasing a subject that is the superstructure of a country’s social existence, from her school curriculum? What was the cost to taxpayers over the years? The Federal Government officially expunged history from its basic school curriculum in 2007 and relegated it as an elective, instead of a core subject at senior secondary level, thus widening a generational gap on students’ mental development. “We must not rest on our oars until we find out what, borrowing from the Yoruba proverbial world, the government saw inside this pot of
soup that made it recoil its fingers so atrociously?” asked Festus Adedayo, a journalist based in Ibadan, Nigeria. At the same time, the Osun State government of then Governor Bisi Akande “magisterially announced the removal of subjects like History, Social Studies, Government and the like from the curriculum of schools, basing this decision on what he called their barrenness as tools for societal growth and the fact that graduates of these courses had hiked the army of unemployed in society,” recalled Adedayo. He continued: “So many issues have
been made of the fact that a people without the knowledge of their history, as propounded by Jamaicanborn Back to Africa movement advocate, Marcus Garvey, are like a tree without roots. “Whoever was at the driver’s seat of that decision should be charged for treason,” insisted Adedyo.” He is responsible for the surge in criminal activities, soaring absence of nationalistic spirit among young Nigerians, worsening social vices and complete flight of values that has gripped Nigeria in the last decade or so.”

RESISTANCE EXPLODES IN SUDAN AMIDST HARSH CRACKDOWN BY RULING GENERALS Global Information Network
Leaders of the Sudanese resistance are calling for a one-day nationwide “civil disobedience” campaign on July 14. The action is expected to push the ruling generals towards a settlement and the creation of a civilian government, which has been the demand from the beginning. The nationwide action will be preceded by mass protests on July 13, the Alliance for Freedom and Change said in a statement. The civil disobedience campaign,
the second such general strike in less than a month, comes as protest leaders and ruling generals traded blame for the latest violence during the mass “million man” march on Sunday that left 10 dead and scores wounded. The Alliance for Freedom and Change’s announcement of the civil disobedience campaign was posted on the Facebook page of the affiliated Sudanese Professionals Association group.
“On Sunday, July 14, a civil disobedience and total political strike in Khartoum and across all provinces will be held,” the movement said. The new action was prompted in part by the worsening violence attributed to the generals. Ten protestors were shot in Omdurman and their bodies were unable to be retrieved until Monday. The doctors’ committee, part of the resistance, said the victims had been “tortured” before being killed. The
police confirmed finding the three bodies. Crowds of people gathered around the bodies, chanting “Just Fall, Just Fall” -- a slogan of the protest movement -- an AFP correspondent reported, adding that riot police later dispersed the crowd with tear gas. “The military council is completely responsible for these lives lost,”
prominent protest leader Mohamed Naji al-Assam said in a video posted on his Facebook page. Peaceful Sudanese protesters are exposed to excessive violence, live bullets and beatings,” he said. But, he added, “the Sudanese have proven that they will not back down”.

68-Year-old swimmer competes in

Last week, 68-year-old Loretta Griffin became the first African-American Memphian to compete in the National Senior Olympics for swimming, coming full circle from her days of doing water aerobics at the Davis YMCA in Whitehaven. The New Tri-State Defender talked to Griffin before she left for Albuquerque, N.M., where the swimming competitions were being held. Griffin, a retired teacher, began swimming five years ago. She had been taking water aerobics classes at the YMCA for about three years and when she became comfortable with the water, she decided it was time to learn how to swim. “I
would
always
see
other swimmers doing laps. They looked like they were really enjoying themselves. That made me want to learn how to swim,” she said. That’s when she started swimming lessons and learning the basics that she practiced every day. One day Griffin was at home watching television and a feature for men in their 90s participating in the National Senior Olympics appeared, but it wasn’t until “the next day I saw a news item about local games and they were about to start. It was time to register, so I went on and signed up for those.” Once she became a contestant for the local games, Griffin was told that she would need to participate in the state level and place in the
top four to attend the Nationals, as well as qualify the year before the actual Olympics. Griffin completed all her requirements, including coming in third place last year in a 500 freestyle that consisted of 20 laps and four strokes to qualify her for the Nationals. In college, Griffin took swimming lessons to complete her degree. “So, I did take it, but the lady felt sorry for me and gave me a C because you had to make a C in order not to take it again. She would send him to Jim Crow Louisiana to spend summer with his relatives. She wanted him to know his “roots” and to be able to compare the opportunities afforded by integration versus the “roadblocks erected in the name of segregation. They were two of the best summers a young Black boy could have. My cousins and friends were genuine people with good hearts. Despite the segregated facilities and “evil White people” who despised the appearance of us within their environment, life was good. We just had to stay away from “them”. The friendships that were made were meant to last a normal lifetime. Unbeknownst to us, many of us would not live a normal lifetime. The summers of skinny dipping, jug fishing, snake hunting, horseback riding, etc. are fond memories now—never to return. Decades later, his parents retired and left California to return to lovely rural Bossier Parish, Louisiana. During one visit Harry sat

According to the Census Bureau, “The percentage of White children under 18 who live with both parents almost doubles that of Black children, according to the data. While 74.3 percent of all White children below the age of 18 live with both parents, only 38.7 percent of Black minors can say the same. A father’s absence leads to anti-social behavior. As an example, the state of California has built more prisons in the last 30 years than colleges. Those prisons are predominantly filled with Blacks and Hispanics. It doesn’t take “rocket science” to figure this game out. Success is so hard to attain without a strong family unit. Don’t let them take your Black boys.
