Welcome to Andrea Hargreaves’ rundown of arts and cultural events coming up in Seaford Jazz
Bring in the New Year at the Cuckmere Inn, Exceat when Neal and Sue Richardson of Splashpoint Jazz are playing and singing a special programme to accompany your celebratory dinner, from 8pm on New Year’s Eve.

Neal returns to his regular venue at The View, Seaford Head Golf Club, on Sunday 2nd January when he will be playing lunchtime jazz from 12.30pm. Tickets from WeGoTickets or on the door.
Cinema
Seaford Community Cinema opens its new season with the Frances McDormand hit Nomadland (12A). It can be seen at the Barn Theatre on Friday 14th January at 7.30pm. Directed by Chloe Zhao and also starring David Thrathairn, Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells, it tells the story of a widow (McDormand) who loses her job so sells most of her belongings to buy a van and become a modern-day nomad. She finds out what it is like to live outside convention on the road, and meets actual nomads who play themselves. This film garnered six Oscars including Best Film, Best Actress and Best Director.
Saturday 22nd January must go down in diaries as Gala Night, when the cinema is staging the Lin-Manuel Miranda vehicle In the Heights (U), doors open at 6.30pm. The evening, tickets for which include a burger, is a benefit for the Seaford schools-based The Youth Counselling Project which raises money to provide counselling sessions for students with mental health issues. With a screenplay written by Quiara Algeria and music and lyrics cowritten by Miranda, this critically acclaimed musical is a powerhouse of Latino vitality and promises pure joy.
On Friday 28th January at 7.30pm it should be cheers for Another Round (12A), a Danish comedy about a group of disillusioned school teachers who experiment with using alcohol to help them deliver more effective classes.

The Corelli Ensemble is in concert at Seaford Baptist Church on Sunday 16th January at 4pm featuring harpist Alex Rider and a programme including music by Boyce, Paul Lewis, Massenet and Vaughan Williams. Tickets from Eventbrite.
Musical theatre
Lights Action Musicals should take you back to a time when ‘Movies were movies’ in the illustrious world of MGM. From 3rd until 6th February Seaford Musical Theatre is providing a programme packed with song and dance numbers from classic to contemporary. See at the Society’s Barn Theatre home. Tickets from Seaford Tourist Information Centre in Church Street or from Ticketsource. Showtime is 7.30pm all evenings and 2.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.
