MEET THE JUDGES
Bio. Director for the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life since 2009. Previous stints at Tulane University, New Mexico State University, and Seton Hall University.
Dr. Rashida Love has built a career in service of equity, inclusion and social justice. Currently, Dr. Love serves as the Director of the Sisterhood Initiative, a cohortbased program at the University of Washington, where she has the awesome pleasure of supporting the academic, personal, and leadership development of women of color undergraduates from across all disciplines at the University.
Trina Reid. Born and raised in Seattle’s Central District and Rainier Valley. I’ve been at the UW since 2008. I started off on the Tacoma campus in Student Development and wound up here in Seattle in 2013. I currently work in the Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity in the Kelly ECC.
MEET THE JUDGES
Adiam Tesfay (she/her)is from Eritrea, East Africa and grew up in Phoenix, AZ before moving to Seattle. She has served as the Director of Disability Resources for Students (DRS) at UW Seattle since Jan 2020, providing academic and housing accommodations for all UW students. Before DRS, she was the Director of Academic Support Programs, where she ran CLUE tutoring, created a peer coaching program and taught study skills courses for students. Adiam has served on the Black Graduation Committee since 2011 and was a previous adviser of African Students Association. Adiam is dedicated to justice, equity and access and seeing systemic change..
Teri Ward is native Seattleite graduating from Garfield High School and life-long Husky, Teri holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master's in Education, both from the University of Washington. is the Director of the Health Sciences Center Minority Students Program (HSCMSP), a division of the Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity (OMA&D). Teri has shaped her career at the UW serving BIPOC students in prior roles at the Graduate School, Minority Education Division (now GSEE), OMA&D EOP Admissions Specialist and African American Admissions Counselor/Recruiter. Inaugural Chair for the UW Seattle Black Opportunity Fund, overseeing grant awards to support Black students, staff and faculty.
MEET THE CONTESTANTS
Hello everyone, my name is Dana Ahmed. I’m an LSJ major hoping to pursue honors this year and I’m also minoring in Arabic. I’m the Black Student Union President here at UW, I’ve spent a great deal of this year pursuing the BSU initiatives in order to create a better institution for Black Students on this campus. I’m also the adidas ambassador on campus and I was the recipient of the UW Mary Gates Leadership Scholarship this year. I also work for a non-profit organization where we recently lobbied for economic justice and criminal justice reform. After I graduate I hope to pursue Law and continue to fight and advocate for justice in every way that I can.
Tiara Hylton, is a third year with an intended major in Nursing. Tiara plays an active role in the campus community by being an RA, being a peer facilitator for BIOL 118, and being the Vice President of Campus Affairs of NSBHP. She is passionate about empowering Black women on and off campus and plans to do more direct work in the future as a Nurse Practitioner in Women’s Health!

Yarangel John is a 3rd year UW student who’s majoring in public health. She aspires to use her education to minimize health inequities and empower, uplift, and celebrate her community. In her time so far at UW, she’s served as the Assistant Director of Advocacy and Inclusion for Madrillow Hall, an RCSA representative, and is currently the secretary for UW’s African Student Association. In her spare time, Yarangel enjoys reading, expressing herself creatively through all things beauty related, and connecting with others. Yarangel strives to be a beacon of tranquility, hope, and light in a world that actively undermines such pursuits.
