University of Alaska Anchorage Athletics | DEVELOPING TOMORROW ’S LEADERS TODAY | TM
Opportunities to Give Seawolf Legacy Scholarship Endowment – A long-term investment, the student-athlete scholarship endowment represents a fiscally prudent way for the community to continue to show its support for the University and to assist its athletes in achieving excellence throughout the entire athletic program. Seawolf Legacy is managed by the UA Foundation, who over the long term has been able to realize more than a 10% return on the investment of endowed funds. Seawolf Athletic Association – The mission of the Seawolf Athletic Association (SAA) is to promote and financially support the UAA Athletic Department and all of the individual athletic teams, while encouraging the development of the student-athlete. By joining the SAA, you will be providing vital resources for scholarships and programmatic funding for all intercollegiate sports at UAA. In addition to the benefits listed in the insert, each SAA member enjoys the satisfaction of providing excellent educational and athletic opportunities for deserving student-athletes. The SAA operates under the direction of the athletic director and is managed by an executive director. Athletic Excellence Fund – The most flexible of all gifts to UAA Athletics, these funds support the operational needs of the athletic department at the discretion of the athletic director.
Giving to Seawolf Athletics When you give to Seawolf Athletics, you provide a world of opportunity. By providing financial support for the outstanding student-athletes at the University of Alaska Anchorage, you ensure that they develop more than just their athletic talents. You provide opportunities to educate them and give them the tools to become tomorrow’s leaders – leaders who are well prepared for the personal and professional challenges they will face throughout their lives. Your contribution is an investment in the tradition of athletic and academic excellence developed over the last three decades. By contributing to Seawolf Athletics you can help our coaches recruit high-caliber student-athletes who will compete for championships and bring pride to the University, the state and UAA alumni and fans. Now more than ever, your support is needed.
Academic Achievement As UAA’s academic standards continue to rise, so do those of its student-athletes. Since the mid-1990s, the Seawolves have regularly posted department-wide grade-point averages of 3.0 or better, becoming leaders and pace-setters within the University’s general student population.
Athletic Success When the Seawolf men’s and women’s basketball teams made simultaneous runs to the NCAA Division II Final Four in the spring of 2008, it turned Anchorage abuzz, brought good will across the state, and caught the attention of UAA alumni across the nation. That same season, Palmer native David Registe made history by becoming the first Seawolf track & field athlete and the first Alaskan to win an NCAA individual national title for his home-state university – a feat less noticed but no less impressive. Both of these accomplishments were the result of years of effort, training and dedication from the athletes and coaches involved. It was also a product of the successful foundation laid by former Seawolves in the overall program’s first three decades – the 29 straight wins by the 1983-84 hockey team; the dozens of All-Americans and multiple national champions produced by the Seawolf ski teams; and the dominance displayed by UAA’s men’s and women’s cross country teams throughout the last decade, bringing home multiple league titles and NCAA berths. But those accomplishments did not mark a culmination, rather a beginning. The Seawolf hockey team plays in the WCHA – the nation’s toughest league, while UAA’s gymnasts are now also at the Division I level. At UAA Athletics, we understand the constant commitment it takes to keep our teams and individual student-athletes competing at a national level – on the field of play and in the classroom.
