THE EDWARDIAN GAZETTE Headmaster’s Message Dear Parents and Community Members This first term presented us with an opportunity to reflect on a number of issues related to the value of solidarity. In fact, we tried to encourage our students to be more generous and at the same time appreciative of the beautiful things they possess. During this last month we took part in various activities and organised a number of initiatives that undoubtedly consolidated our reputation as a community that is big-hearted and sensitive to the needs of others. The IB students collected money for the KISS Africa campaign, clothes and other items were collected for the crèche children and the whole school participated in the annual event of the Piggy Banks. The highlight of our activities was reached on Monday when our teachers played against their colleagues from De La Salle in what proved to be a highly entertaining match. The boys truly enjoyed the spectacle offered by both sets of players and the final result was beyond our expectations. In fact, through our combined efforts, we manage to collect the sum of 1.600 euro for l-Istrina Campaign. Well done! I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all and your families a blessed and peaceful Christmas.

Best Regards,

Mr George Psaila Headmaster

Quote of the Week

“We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their colour.” Maya Angelou

THE EDWARDIAN GAZETTE Midnight Mass St Edward’s College will once again be organising "Midnight Mass" (in English) at College. Mass will be celebrated by Fr Sacco at 21:30 in order to allow for the possibility for our younger members of the congregation to also attend. A procession with live animals accompanied by the boys’ Christmas choir will be held up to the chapel and will start at 21:00. Mulled wine, mince pies, tea and coffee will be served at the canteen after Mass. Bring your family and friends along and come and join us for the procession to the chapel. We look forward to seeing you all there.

THE EDWARDIAN GAZETTE Yr 11 Retreat

Yr11 Retreat at Savio College The year 11’s went on their annual retreat to Savio College on Monday 6 December. We were greeted by Father Eric, a Salesian priest, on getting off the bus and he was to be our guide for the day. Father Eric was very enlightening and everyone came out of the first session reassessing their beliefs and he even sparked a heated debate amongst the boys. During our second session we took part in some group activities where we talked about the qualities we admired in ourselves and others, which produced some interesting results. To finish off our day we had mass in the school chapel and then changed into our sports gear for the traditional match against the boys from Savio. It was a great game and thanks to some from immense goalkeeping from St. Edwards it ended in a fair 2-2 draw. When it was time to leave Savio College we remounted the bus and headed back to St Edward’s College after a really worthwhile day. A big thank you is owed to both Mr G Sammut and Ms M Fenech who supervised us and put up with our usual antics, as well as Savio College for the use of their facilities and Father Eric for his patience and wise advice.
