Ball Gown: With its’ fitted bodice and full skirt, that can be either one piece or separate, this is the style of dress seen in fairy tales weddings. Perfect for big, traditional weddings, this style of dress is suited to a kaleidoscope of fabrics; with a delicate satin to chiffon used on top, along with layers of taffeta or tulle on the bottom to create a floating effect. Why not compliment your Ball Gown wedding dress with long gloves and a dramatic train for an even greater WOW factor. What Shapes would be Enhanced by the Ball Gown: While many brides will look beautiful in a ball gown, the cut is ideal for slender or pearshaped figures as the full skirt helps to accentuate the waist and hide the lower body. Additionally, this style helps create the hourglass look because it emphasizes the waistline. If you’re shorter, beware that a skirt of this size can overpower a small frame. Mermaid: This style of wedding dress is a very sexy look that highlights a woman’s curves. Its silhouette contours to the body from the chest to the knee, and then flares out to the hem. Totally adaptable, this dress style comes in various versions from strapless, to halter, or trumpet flare and even flamenco. What Shapes would be Enhanced by the Mermaid dress: Flattering on slender, short and tall figures, the Mermaid is best worn by brides who are confident and comfortable in their skin, due to its body-hugging cut. FINDING YOUR PERFECT SIZE: Having found a dress you love, it’s now important to ensure you get one that fits you perfectly and with every dress manufacturer having their own sizing chart, that can prove to be a bit tricky. The first step to finding your per-

fect fit is to be properly measured with a vinyl measuring tape (cloth tapes can stretch) by a tailor at your bridal store. Once your measurements have been taken, check them against the wedding dress manufacturer’s sizing chart to choose the dress that matches your largest measurements - usually if your dress shop is ordering for you, they’ll take care of this step. Don’t be alarmed if your wedding dress size is different than your everyday non-wedding clothes. It is quite common for dress sizes to be at least one or two sizes larger than the size you’re used to wearing. If you are planning to lose weight before the wedding, be very realistic about the size you expect to be on your wedding day. You can always make a dress a little smaller.... but it’s near impossible to make a wedding dress larger. Almost every woman will need a little alteration when it comes to her wedding dress; with the entire sizing and fitting process generally taking up to four to six weeks - or even longer if your gown needs to be custom ordered. So allow plenty of this for this. Also, remember to wear the same lingerie and shoes that you’ll be wearing on your wedding day, so that your tailor can get accurate measurements. Your Wedding Day should be one of the happiest days of your life, giving you wonderful memories to treasure for years to come. Choosing the right wedding gown should definitely be high on your list of priorities, as you will want to look and feel your very best on this Special Day. So choose a dress that fits properly, flatters your figure and makes you feel like the beautiful bride you are! Whilst at the same time ensuring you choose a gown you will feel comfortable wearing throughout the whole day and evening too!

However, no matter what your status in life....the 21st Century Bride is able to take choose from a vast range of shades, textures and materials to create that WOW factor that will impress and amaze her Bridegroom, as well as all their family and friends. All wedding gowns are beautiful, but choosing the right one can accentuate your best assets and hide any areas you’re more conscious of, no matter what your shape or size. The five most popular styles of wedding gowns include:

What Shapes would be Enhanced by the A-Line/Princess: A good general option for almost any bride, the full skirt of the A-line can hide a rounder lower body or create the illusion of curves on a narrow frame. However, if you wish your dress to make you look slimmer, the Princess style is a great option; with its elongated lines creating a ‘slimming effect’, as the eye naturally focuses on the length of the dress.

What Shapes would be Enhanced by the Empire Dress: An empire dress works well on most body types but is specifically flattering for a bride looking to enhance her bust. On the other hand, brides with large busts also like empire dresses because the traditional square can better cover larger breasts. This dress is also ideal for pear-shaped figures, as it is forgiving of the legs and hips. Because of the room in the stomach area, this is also an ideal dress for pregnant brides. Column/Sheath: As the name suggests, the Column dress has a narrow shape that flows straight down from the top to the bottom. Also referred to as a Sheath, this style of dress tends to hug the body and show any and all of your curves. A Column dress can be made as a simple slip dress in a delicate fabric to a more contoured dress made of heavier fabrics such as damask. What Shapes would be Enhanced by the Column/Sheath Dress: Although a timeless style, the Column dress is typically not as forgiving as other styles and is best suited for thinner brides. Petite brides can tend to look taller and longer in a Column dress, but there’s not much room for hiding problem areas. Also beware that some Column dresses are very tight and may restrict movement on the dance floor!

A-Line/Princess: Named after the shape the dress visually creates, this style is classic and simple. Fitted around the bodice and flowing out to the ground, the A-line dress looks stunning whether it’s worn short and chic above the knee or as a more glamous full length version that flows into a large train. The classic design of the A-Line dress lends itself to all types of materials and can be made with everything from free-flowing silks to heavier fabrics such as satin. By utilizing vertical panels that run from the neckline to the hem, the Princess cut version of the A-line dress is more dramatic and emphasizes this style’s clean lines.

Empire: The Empire dress is unique with its raised waistline sitting just below the bust, from which the material of the dress flows down. Empire dresses look equally good with either longer bell-shaped sleeves through to the sleeveless version. Likewise, this style of dress is suitable for a number of different skirt lengths that can flow freely or contour to your body. Traditionally made from lighter fabrics, the Empire dress takes on a romantic feel.

Great Lengths From the red carpet of the stars to the streets of the fashionistas, hair extensions have become all the rage these days. It should come as no surprise then that hair extensions have become one of the quickest and easiest way in which to change your hairstyle from one day to the next, if you so desire. Thanks to the likes of the Kardashians and TOWIE, hair extensions have a certain allure about them right now. If, like me, you find bonded or wefted hair extensions too much commitment or let’s face it too pricey and clip-ins like a puzzle, then the ingenious halo is for you. A strip of hair is attached to a one-size-fits-all loop of super fine nylon wire. You simply place the loop on your head snugly, then using a pin tail comb pull sections of you hair up and over the wire to conceal it. No glue or grips required! There are two brands, to my knowledge, that offer these types of extensions - Halo Hair Extensions and Windle & Moodie. But which is best? I put them both to the test... Halo Hair Extensions, from £79.99 (halohairextensions.com) No. of shades: 17, from jet black to bleach blonde. Lengths: 16 or 20 inches. Type of hair: Remy human hair. Heat Styling? Yes, you can treat this hair just as you would your own. Suitable for thick hair? Fine hair could get away with one halo, I needed two in my thicker hair. Needs cutting? Unless you already have long hair and need the Halo for volume, you'll need it cut to add just the right amount of length, otherwise it will look too fake. Extras: Halo Hair Extensions are available online, but a team can colour match your extensions if you send a current picture, plus they offer exchanges if you do choose the wrong shade.

Windle & Moodie's Speed Wefts, from £40 (windleandmoodie.com) No. of shades: 8 Lengths: 18 inches Type of hair: Non-human hair, ideal if you're not keen on the idea of someone else’s locks adorning your own. Heat styling? The hair looks and behaves just like human hair - you can even use heated tools up to 170c on them. Suitable for thick hair? The Single Row Speed Weft, £40, has five rows of hair stitched into one and will work for fine hair as well as being suitable for my thick hair. The Double Row, £50, has an extra three rows of hair stitched together that adds three inches to the length - great if you want Kardashian-like volume and length. Needs cutting? On my mid-length hair it definitely needed cutting and styling. Extras: You can buy online, but the wefts are also available in store so you can be colour matched in person, as well as getting it cut and styled to suit your hair.

Looking for something a bit more permanent? If you like to wear your hair tied up, or play a lot of sport them micro loop hair extensions may be for you. Micro loop hair extensions are a safe, no damage, long lasting solution to give you the beautiful long hair you've always wanted! Although nothing will ever be as easy as simply flipping in your extenrsions, mico loops are still relatively easy to add, they do not use heat of glue which have the potential to damage your hair. They provide a really natural look and a virtually undetectable, if you want longer lasting long locks without the damage these are for you. Sandon Hall has been the ancestral home of the Harrowby family since 1776, when Nathaniel, 1st Baron Harrowby bought what was then a shooting lodge and had it transformed by the architect Samuel Wyatt into Sandon Hall William Emes was commissioned to create the 50-acre formal gardens, complete with many unusual specimens, and the 400-acre park. Both the gardens and parkland are still regarded as one of the best examples of their type in the country. Disaster struck Sandon in 1848, when a workman working on the roof left a blowtorch alight and the Hall caught fire. Luckily the blaze spread slowly, and many interior items were saved, but the structure of the Hall was so badly damaged that it had to be pulled down and rebuilt. The Estate Office and other outbuildings, also built by Wyatt, were far enough away from the fire and survived. They still stand today. The renowned Scottish architect William Burn was instructed to re build after the fire and designed a new Hall in the neo-Jacobean style. Completed in 1854, it was built from pinkish white sandstone, although pollution from the Potteries in Stoke on Trent has given it its dark grey appearance of today.

A Wearing its traditional Christmas decorations and with lit fires in the old part of the building – dating back 325 years, no less – The Bull has a welcoming and cosy atmosphere, perfect for a winter wedding. The plethora of evergreen plants throughout the building and frost-covered trees in the gardens offer great photo opportunities, both indoors and out. For something different, couples can treat their guests with a seasonal delight - spiced mulled wine served with delicious winter canapés.

The hotel also has 150 en-suite bedrooms with modern amenities, complimentary Wi-Fi throughout and free on-site car parking for guests who come from afar. We are only 12 miles from Heathrow Airport, which is great for overseas guests. Our food is top notch; we ‘ve recently been awarded an AA Rosette award, and our wedding menu will certainly leave everyone wanting more. For larger groups; up to 100 seated guests, the Officer’s Half Deck is an ideal choice, adjacent to restored cabins, bulkheads and an armoury of rifles and cutlasses. With access to Warrior’s four vast decks, guests can take a tour and get a real flavour of what life would have been like for the 706 strong crew including Royal Navy sailors, officers and Royal Marines in Victorian times. The decks have all been lovingly restored and furnished with historical artefacts, and there’s an opportunity to choose some unrivalled settings for intimate and group pictures; whether by the cannons, the Captains Cabin or at the ships wheel. The romance of the setting means that Warrior is a hugely popular venue for weddings and civil partnerships, so much so that early booking is advisable, as the number of clients choosing the venue is increasing.


Simon Coulson Events Manager Sue Moss confirmed that it’s not just couples from the local area that are choosing to celebrate their happy day on Warrior. The ship has also been the location of choice for brides and grooms from York and Sheffield and even as far as South Africa as they look to take advantage of the venue’s superb atmosphere and celebrate their magical day with friends and family in majestic surroundings. She revealed that although traditional ceremonies are still the most popular, nautical themed weddings, with Napoleon and Josephine, and even a Pirates of the Caribbean wedding, with the groom dressing up as Captain Jack Sparrow, with Elizabeth Swann as his bride, have taken place aboard the ship. On the day, the couple are invited to provide their own choice of music, whether a string quartet, brass band, soloist, or a much loved song, which can be played through the ship’s sound system. Following the ceremony guests will be treated to a specially selected glass of Champagne, and whilst pictures are being taken, everyone is invited to explore the ship and make the most of its breathtaking ambience. Access for those with disabilities is also available to the Gun Deck Level via a stairlift. Staff realise that every wedding is unique, so cater for all tastes. Couples are encouraged to organise the evening entertainment, using their own individual flair. The ship has witnessed various music from rock ‘n’ roll bands to discos and staff will happily answer any questions concerning the suitability of evening entertainment. More recently, and in recognition of Warrior’s facilities, the ship was named Unique Wedding Venue of the Year by Weddings and Occasions, the specialist online publication.
