SEBOKENG. - A 24-year-old sangoma and father of two handed himself over to the police last week. This is after he allegedly hacked his girlfriend to death with a sharp instrument inside their three-room shack at the Boiketlong informal settlement. The community alleges that the crime was committed in full view of their little girls aged two and four who have since been taken to a place of safety. The deceased, Thato Matumi Phamatse (22) of Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, was laid to rest on Satur-

day. The angry community said that, immediately after the deed, the suspect mopped up the blood, washed himself and then went to bed. The next morning he went to report the matter to the police. A neighbour who refused to be named said the community got the fright of their lives when they opened the shack and discovered objects on the carpet they claimed were muthi. The ‘muthi’ included two bibles, knopkieries, incense (impepho) and two bottles of a mysterious red liquid. The community said ‘the jealous’ suspect never allowed his girlfriend to visit neighbours as he feared they

would influence her to leave him. They also claim that the suspect used muthi on more of his girlfriends. Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Teboho Lephoto confirmed the suspect handed himself over. “He told us that he had killed his girlfriend. The reason behind the killing forms part of the police investigation,” said Lephoto. The suspect briefly appeared in the Sebokeng Magistrates Court. The case was postponed to October 13 for further investigation and bail application. The suspect cannot be named as he has not lodged a plea.

SEBOKENG. – Angry Boitumelo residents displayed their uncompromising grievances on Wednesday morning by barricading the main road with huge rocks and trees. This group of community members closed down the ‘Zozo’ Clinic which they call a ‘dump site.’ They asked everyone at the clinic to carry on working there at their own risk. We again demand that the Emfuleni Local Municipality considers a flat rate,” says the Ward 33 branch of the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco). AOL proposes to extend its existing opencast mining operations by mining new coal reserves, which are located to the south of the existing NVC reserves, approximately 5 kilometres east of Sasolburg and 10 kilometres south of Vereeniging in the northern Free State Province. These new operations will include opencast and underground mining within the New Cornelia Block 1 and New Cornelia Vaalbank reserves respectively. AOL proposes to blend coal from their existing operation with coal from the proposed new operations and supply this coal to the Lethabo Power Station in order for it to continue generating electricity. The life extension project is known as the NVC Lifex Project. EIA PROCESS The EIA process commenced in 2010 in terms of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA), Act 28 of 2002 and the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), Act 107 of 1998, as amended. Thus, a parallel environmental authorisation process is being followed, involving the regional Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) and the Free State Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DETEA). An Environmental Management Programme Report (EMPR) amendment in terms of MPRDA, based on the findings of the EIA, a waste management licence in terms of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act (NEMWA), Act 59 of 2008, and an Integrated Water Use License Application in terms of the National Water Act (NWA), Act No. 36 of 1998, also form part of this process. FINAL EIA REPORT AVAILABLE FOR COMMENT The Final EIA Report for the proposed project is available for a comment period of 30 days from Thursday, 1 October 2015 to Friday, 30 October 2015. Young golfer wants to turn professional EVATON. – Thabo ‘Tiger’ Sekese (18) is bound for a great future if his current performance is anything to go by. This sensational young golfer started to

play this sport at an early age and is destined to become a household name in South African golf. The young man started playing golf at the young age of six and he was named the best

golfer at Oospark Primary School in Vanderbijlpark. Sekese became first in the top ten during the Glacier Tours for kids around South Africa. To add more feathers to his cap, at the age of 16 he won the junior league of all high schools in Sedibeng. He is currently the captain of the golf junior team in Riverval Golf Club in Vereeniging. According to Sekese he recently went to Germany for the Junior World Golf Open Tournament at Hoofburg Country Club and was top five among 17 countries that took part in the tournament.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Sekese said his ambition is to turn professional in the next two years. He has no doubt that he can achieve his milestone if he gets a personal sponsorship: “I’m happy with my progress but my biggest dream is to turn professional and I know that, with the support I get from people who are close to me, I will achieve this. “There are people who are pushing me very hard and I’m grateful to have those people in my life because they want the best for me.”
