VEREENIGING. - The African National Congress (ANC) Sedibeng reshuffling storm is finally over. Following weeks of reports and denials about this, the reshuffling process took place on Tuesday afternoon. The pain, sweat, sadness and joy were all over the faces of Sedibeng and Emfuleni municipal members of the mayoral committee. The long-awaited announcement was made by ANC Provincial Secretary Hope Papo in Vereeniging on Tuesday. Former Sedibeng Executive Mayor Simon Mofokeng replaces Gretha Hlongwane as executive mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality while Hlongwane takes a seat in Sedibeng District Municipality as speaker. Former Sedibeng District Municipality MMC of Strategic Planning and Economic Development Moipato Tsokolibane will take over as speaker of Emfuleni Local Municipality while former speaker of Sedibeng District Municipality and mayor of Lesedi Local Municipality Busi Modisakeng takes over as executive mayor of Sedibeng District Municipality. During the media briefing, Papo said the ANC undertook oversight visits in all Sedibeng municipalities including the DA led Midvaal and that the reshufflings were made in consultation with provincial offi-

ces in accordance with ANC policies. The municipalities not affected by the changes are Midvaal and Lesedi Local Municipalities with the latter being reinforced with an extra mayoral committee member. Papo said that the aim of bringing Mofokeng to Emfuleni Local Municipality is to build the ailing municipality in preparation for next year’s local elections. The changes are as follows, Emfuleni Local Municipality: * Executive Mayor- Simon Mofokeng * Speaker- Maipato Tsokolibane * Chief Whip- Christinah Sale * MMC: Health and Social Development- Nkapu Ranake *MMC: Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture- Eric Tshabalala *MMC: Human Settlements- Sello Pitso *MMC: Finance- Robert Thema *MMC: Public Transport, Roads and Public Works- Khethiwe Ntombela *MMC: Infrastructure, Electricity, Water and Sanitation- Nomvula Thulo *MMC: Public Safety- Pius Maseko *MMC: Corporate Services- Busi Mncube *MMC: Local Economic DevelopmentShaka Radebe

“Without Emfuleni there is no Sedibeng. “Here we need a person who will be able to shoulder the administration and financial crisis. A person who is able to beef up the ranks. The ANC does not owe any person a position. We can’t go to 2016 elections with administration problems that are growing,” said Papo. VANDERBIJLPARK. - Tension about the hike in university fees brought the nation to a standstill for a week or two, before President Jacob Zuma finally gave in to students’ demands on Friday. Social networks became the platform used by students to facilitate their way forward. ‘# Fees must fall’ went viral on Twitter and Facebook as well as Instagram. A 0% university increase was at last agreed to by Zuma on Friday, which was a defeat for Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande, who is not popular with students for making a joke of the issue by quipping that ‘# students must fall too.’ Angry students across the country made their demands clear in reaction to university price hikes. Students of all races from all 9

provinces took part in the protest. The march to ANC headquaters, Luthuli House, by students was a clear indication that the students meant business. The march to parliament was also a brutally clear ‘suggestion’ to those in power that students still have power and constitute the majority. • At the Vaal Campus of North West University (NWU), students handed a memorandum of demands to the varsity. Amongst those in support of the march was man-of-the-cloth, Rivers of Living Waters’ Archbishop Stephen Zondo. He was handed the microphone by student leader SRC President Sydney Madebo after he lambasted the university leadership. Zondo quoted great icon Nelson Mandela: “If the ANC (African National Congress) does what the apartheid government has done to you, do to the ANC what you did to the apartheid government!” He said more than 20 years of democracy and the nation still sought justice in education: “Which means our government is failing our education.” The ANC has since declared its support for the #Fees must fall campaign. NWU Vaal’s Professor Linda Du Plessis received the memorandum of demands from the dissatisfied students. The NWU, Vaal student-protest escalated in and outside the university premises and the Stallions - a security company - was summoned to maintain order. Burning tyres were used to barricade the road. Shimmy Mokubung, representative of the Economic Freedom Fighters, said they are not going to allow the government to toy with them. This is not about political gain but to address the serious issues experienced by students. This was just one of the ways in which students vented their frustration. On Monday the strike resumed as the NWU students feel that there is more that needs to be done and fixed by the University. Across the country universities remained closed with students demanding ‘total’ transformation at most of these institutions. The protests were sparked at Wits University in Johannesburg two weeks ago after the institution announced a 10.5% increase in fees for 2016. The protests spread across the country, culminating in Zuma’s announcement in Pretoria. Meanwhile economists report that government can partner with individuals and large corporates in the private sector in the immediate term, but looking long term there needs to be a plan to figure out the role and status of universities in South Africa.

ROSHNEE. - A 41-year-old suspect allegedly on the run over the murder of seven people has been arrested. The suspect, who cannot be named as he has not lodged a plea, was arrested by police at his home in Roshnee last week. Seven people including three minors lost their lives and five sustained serious injuries. This happened after their white Toyota Corolla collided head-on with a silver BMW M5 in an accident that happened last year on June 27 on the Old Johannesburg Road and Vereeniging Road at about 22:00. The deceased were Mohammed Imra, (30) who was the driver; his wife, Shahzad (28), and their three children, Fatima (9), Haijrah (6), Houria (4) and their neighbour’s daughter, Humera Desai, (3). All died on the scene. Four other occupants, including the driver of the BMW and his friend, were admitted to hospital. The BMW occupants sustained minor injuries and were later discharged from hospital. At the time, the police were investigating a case of culpable homicide, which has since been changed to murder. An eyewitness suspected that the driver of the BMW was under the influence of alcohol. Witnesses say Police were supposed to have tested him on the spot by means of a breathalyser. It is alleged that the BMW driver went on the run from the long arm of the law. The police knocked at his front door last week and he was arrested, almost in tears as he bade farewell to a woman, suspectedly his partner. The suspect was transported to the Vereeniging Police holding cells. He faces seven charges of murder, five counts of attempted murder and one count of reckless and drunk driving. He is out on R20 000 bail until November 5 while further investigations are taking place.

Gauteng COGTA MEC must sort out Sebokeng Youth Centre confusion Lerato Serero

SEBOKENG.- Following the closure of the Sebokeng Youth Advice Centre at Masoheng, approximately 2 000 young people are forced to sit at home biting their nails. The centre is expected to serve the youth living in Sebokeng and provide them with opportunities to empower themselves and thereby contribute to the reduction of unemployment in the area, which according to statistics stands at 34.7% with the youth unemployment rate at 45%. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster DA Gauteng spokesperson on Sport, Arts, Culture and Heritage and member of Gauteng legislature, Kingsol Chabalala said that his party is calling on Gauteng MEC for cooperative governance and traditional affairs, Jacob Mamabolo to intervene and resolve what he terms a ‘spat’ between the Sedibeng District Municipality and the

Emfuleni Local Municipality, which is responsible for maintaining the centre. “The centre is in a serious state of disrepair. The ceiling is damaged and has collapsed, and as a result, furniture is used to hold up parts of it. The centre also currently has no internet connection and had to close its doors recently after the electricity was cut off,” said Chabalala. He adds that questions to Sedibeng Municipality reveal it to be in a dispute over the maintenance of the property, as it is claimed that the infrastructure belongs to the Emfuleni Municipality, while Sedibeng runs operations inside the centre. While neither Sedibeng nor Emfuleni have made any effort to maintain the property, it has now fallen into complete disrepair and has had to shut its doors. The closest alternative is the Bophelong Youth Advice Centre, which is over 20 km away.

Mbatha makes Vaal proud SEBOKENG. - The Vaal community has yet again been made proud. This time it’s by 20-year-old Snethemba Mbatha from Sebokeng who is in the running to become Miss South Africa (SA) 2016. Mbatha has in the past few weeks gained a lot of support from Vaal residents who believe that she has a good chance of making it to the top. Mbatha is a second-year student at Boston Media House studying Public Relations and Radio: “I entered the competition because I

want to be a role model to young girls, “I want to bring change to my community and to SA as whole.” Mbatha adds that she hopes her giant leap in entering the competition will show young girls that dreams do come true no matter what kind of background one comes from. Mbatha’s main inspiration for entering the competition is her late mom who had encouraged her to enter the competition: “My dream beyond this competition is to graduate, gain experience and then start my own company. “I want to create job opportunities, because there are so many graduates who are

unemployed. “I also want to start a campaign for girls, whether I win this competition or not.” Mbatha hopes that the Miss SA platform opens doors for her as she wants to start her own business and raise funds to support charities: “This experience will also groom me to be a better, stronger young woman who strives to bring change into the world.” Mbatha’s message to the youth is; “Put God first. Follow your dreams. Get an education because education is the key to success.” Snethemba Mbatha (20) from Sebokeng is in the running to become Miss SA 2016.

Mackay Shelter manager Nompumelelo Zazini said this is part of their social responsibility. “Blessed is the hand that gives to the needy. That’s our yearly motto. If we have, let us give to those who do not. We are a shelter that operates similarly to NGOs, but we believe in giving and sharing,” said Zazani. The first stop was at Khaya Lethu based in Vereeniging led by Rose Gama, who looks after 15 homeless people and orphans. She was very emotional to see police cars parked outside. Police handed over food and clothes for

MY ENEMIES CONFESSED…. I will never forget you prof. THANK YOU MAMA SHAKIRA Several years of unhappiness in marriage lead to loneliness and continuous crying. After hearing testimonials about Professor Muti and Mama Shakira on the radio & in newspapers. My old friends’ son had been saved from drugs and alcohol abuse by Professor Muti so I vis-ited him!. For only R100 Professor Muti and Mama Shakira read my fortune accurately & told me about my past life, my marriage & in a dish of water with a mirror he showed me the face of my enemies as well as my husband’s girlfriends. He performed a special prayer & gave me powerful love crystals a special one to use at my work place & one for my business success. Unbelievable!! In 1 week my enemies approached me & confessed bad things they did to me, my husband left his girlfriend & came back to me. Over the years I have tried healers and priests but they all failed. “penis enlargement & magic ring.”

he SATN Chairperson and Vice-Chancellor of Mangosuthu University of Technology, Professor Mashupye Kgaphola shared the vision of SATN conference and what it hoped to achieve going forward. He said Polytechnic of Namibia is a new member of SATN and they are broadening the partnerships of the association. “The essence of the conference is to explore how to craft and instill the importance of entrepreneurship within students,” said Professor Kgaphola. Shedding light on the importance, Professor Kgaphola said that the conference outlines the new curriculum, research and work integrated learning (WIL) issues that are pertinent to the Universities of Technology. block in relation to the traditional universities, there is no better time than now, to meet the country’s imperatives of the national development plan for skills development. UoTs will also be in a position to mentor the TVET lecturers.”

come of the conference will state the importance of how the association makes the graduates fit and ready for the field of work and also change the mindset of students while studying. He further stated that whislt the students training workshop ran in conjunction with the conference, they are engaged by academics and real life entrepreneurs and this will help translate what is happening in the conference to students. He said this will help to structure the curriculum in producing graduates that can be entrepreneurs, advising that students need to take note that there is a very low level of entrepreneurship in the country, yet there are fewer jobs available. He encouraged everyone to think broadly on how to find a space in the new economy.

PROPHET MADE MY EnEMIES COnFESS WHAT THEY DID TO ME!! I used to suffer a lot in my life and at one point I thought of ending my life. I had tried so many people in the past but no on seemed to help! Until I saw Prophet Shiru on SABC TV helping people.

He charged me only R100 to read my fortune and showed me my enemies in a mirror and I was shocked. He made them come and confess everything they had done to me as professed by Prophet Shiru. They caused me to break up with my husband and have lots of bad luck. They had done muthi that made my forehead swell and tokoloshe grow inside it. He then performed ritual to remove it and showed it to me and cured me after that. Motors

VANDERBIJLPARK. - It was a walk down memory lane for former female soccer players when they hosted reunion matches at Shakespeare Stadium on Saturday. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Lorraine Montsho, one of the organisers said this initiative was to bring together those women who contributed to the development of wo-

men’s football in the region. This oneday tournament saw teams from as far afield as the Free State participating in this unique initiative. Montsho said she was overwhelmed by the teams’ response: “The support was great and I want to thank all the teams who responded to our call. The main objective of this initiative is to acknowledge women or ladies who contributed to the

development of football in the country. If it wasn’t for them I don’t think women’s football would be where it is today. We appeal to local businesses and companies to come on board to make this event big,” said Montsho. She believes the initiative will get better and better if they get sponsors to attract former women soccer players in this country.

SEDIBENG. - All Stars FC will campaign in the Safa Sedibeng SAB League in the new season. This was after this Bophelongbased side gave a five star performance during the regional play-offs in Heidelberg over the weekend. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Stars manager Coach Kenneth Mashilo, formerly with Mighty Blues FC, believes playing in the SAB League will bring professional football to Bophelong. The over-the-moon Mashilo said they are in SAB League to compete, not to add numbers. He was confident that his side will make its presence felt when the league starts. The regional play-offs involved winners in the Emfuleni Local Football Association, Lesedi Local Football Association and Midvaal Local Football Association. Juventus FC from Heidelberg is another team that will join All Stars in the SAB League in the new season. The latter finished second while All Stars finished first on the promotional play-offs log. Sedibeng Ster Sport has learned that Midvaal was represented by two teams instead of one

team like other LFAS. However, Sedibeng Ster Sports’ attempt to get the Safa Sedibeng administration’s comment to explain this was fruitless as the office is still closed and still under administration. This newspaper reported earlier this year that Safa Sedibeng offices were forced to close due to nonpayment of rent. “I have no doubt that we are ready to compete in the SAB League because I have been there before as a coach and I know what to expect. There is no time to rest and we have already started planning for the future. I also want to thank the Emfuleni Local Football Association for its support because we represent the ELFA at the play-offs. I also thank all the Super League teams in our stream because if it wasn’t for them I don’t think we could have achieved this,” said an excited Mashilo. Meanwhile, Safa Sedibeng SAB League teams will involve themselves in the Nedbank Cup this weekend at Shakespeare Stadium.
