12yearold’s body found in a stream
Community members stand in disbelief following the discovery of the 12yearold's body in Evaton last week. Photo: Supplied. Mduduzi Mathebula
EVATON.- A 2012 road construction project failed the community last Tuesday. This follows the discovery of a body of a boy around the age of 12 that was found in a hole that had apparently been left open for years between Evaton and Zone 7. This project was intended to bring a tar road and a bridge to Zone 7, but was apparently abandoned by the contractor who left a massive hole in the middle of the road. The hole had not been covered or cordoned off and there were no warning signs at the site. The child was
found in the dirty water in the hole and his lifeless body was retrieved by divers. This matter has raised concern among community members who are puzzled as to why the road has taken so long to be completed leading to the death of the child. “We still waiting for the return of Jesus Christ. Maybe ANC (African National Congress) will take its people serious then. Service delivery is a vital issue that has being neglected for years and nothing seems to emerge,” says community member Nomasonto Mqhathi. Community members believe that the negligence of the construction is the cause of the child’s death and that the ruling party, ANC, needs to take the bla-
me. The Democratic Alliance (DA) said that they had been petitioning the ELM to cover the hole, but no action has been taken by officials to date. Numerous calls were made to ELM acting manager for communications, marketing and branding, Stanley Gaba by Sedibeng Ster for response on the matter without success however newly inaugurated ELM mayor, Simon Mofokeng reportedly visited the bereaved family. ANC Councillor Lahliwe Rapapadi says they are aware of the incident and they are going to do investigations on the matter. Police are investigating.

Man bitten by dogs out of hospital Moleboheng Chaha
MEYERTON.- Sammuel Maduna (59) who was recently severely bitten by two dogs near Louis Trichardt Road in Meyerton is suing for damages. It is understood that Maduna had been walking in the field when he encountered the dogs who attacked him. Members of the SAPS, Meyerton Fire Department, SPCA and Emergency personnel were subsequently called to the scene. Maduna was left in a critical condition and had to be hospitalised for two weeks at Sebokeng Hospital. Maduna states that he is very thankful to a member of the public who witnessed the incident and saved his life after he managed to chase the dogs away from him. Maduna says he is now scared to go back to Meyerton. “I almost lost my life, I have since moved from my house in Kookrus to go and live with my kids in Evaton because I am scared that the incident will repeat itself. “This entire incident affected both my business and personal life. Kopanong Hospital derailed by protests Mduduzi Mathebula
VEREENIGING.- ‘Kopano ke matla’. Kopanong Hospital general workers stood together as they vented their anger over what they termed nepotism at the hospital on Wednesday last week. The workers are upset after an internal admin clerk post was advertised. The requirement for this post was two years experience or equivalent qualifications. However, according to the protesters, interviews were conducted and all went well, but then the outcome was suspicious. Nelson Kutlwana, an employee, explained: “The person

SEBOKENG. - Some furious residents of Boiketlong informal settlement demanded the disbanding of the community executive committee recently. The committee was accused of failing to report to the residents on the progress of developments to obtain RDP houses and other developments. There was a division into two factions those who wanted the executive committee to disband and others who wanted them to stay on. This emerged during a heated meeting that swung back and forth at the local school. Others said the committee, led by Walter Mthembu and consisting of seven members, had failed dismally to fulfil their mandate. Papi Tobius who chaired the meeting but is not part of the executive committee was singing a different tune. He told Sedibeng Ster there was no way the committee would be disbanded: “They will have to hand over all documents. They will have to explain about the latest new developments following their mandate.” Dan Mofokeng, executive committee organiser, said Boiketlong belongs to members from various political parties: “We appreciate efforts and the ideas from the United Front, African National Congress

VEREENIGING. - Immediately after being sworn in and inaugurated as the new mayor of Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM), Councillor Busi Modisakeng stressed firmness when it comes to poor service and poor staff attitude to the public. She said the primary aim of the new leadership is to sustain good work done by her predecessors. She was officially inaugurated with members of the mayoral commmittee (MMCs) in the mayor’s parlour in Vereeniging last Thursday. Modisakeng said the success of the district will be based on stable and financial viability, ten flagship projects, and a working relationship between district and local municipalities. The power and functions of the district will help shape the government for 2016 elections.
Gretha Hlongwane, former executive mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), was sworn in as the new speaker of SDM. Modisakeng, former speaker of the district, graduated into the position left by Simon Mofokeng, who is now the new executive mayor of Emfuleni. Velly Mcera, Khulu Malindi and Mabandla Ronyuza, have been deployed to serve as the Sedibeng MMCs for Human Settlement; the Environment and Clean Energy; Strategic Planning and Economic Development, respectively. The well-versed former MMC for Human Settlements, Assistance Mshudulu, is now the Chief Whip of Sedibeng District Municipality. Gauteng Premier David Makhura will present his State of the Province Address 2016 (Sopa) for the first time in the Sedibeng district. That will be followed by the adoption of the 2015/16 IDP and the State of the District Address.
Democratic Alliance (DA) chief whip Jaco Karsten and the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania, PAC, Appa Pooe welcomed the new deployment of the MMCs with open arms and wished them good luck in the remaining seven months before next year’s local government elections. Speaking during his inauguration also on Thursday at the mayor’s parlour in Vanderbijlpark Mofokeng said that he is going to do all in his power to make sure that everything runs smooth in the ELM. Meanwhile critics believe that the most immediate and greatest task for Mofokeng in the ELM is to shape the region ahead of the 2016 local elections. Sedibeng Municipal Chief Whip Assist ance Mshudulu speaking after the inaugu ration of Sedibeng District mayor, speaker and MMCs.

Great news indeed! The announcement by Arcelor-Mittal that there will be no further job losses (P3) should be welcomed with both hands. Fears and panic recently struck our area with the news that the Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark plants were to close down which would leave a huge number of people unemployed. In August this year, the company announced that it would initiate a Section 189 (Dismissals based on operational requirements) process with regard to the potential closure of the Vaal Meltshop and

The outcome of the footprint review conducted at Vanderbijlpark Works revealed that the assets need to run at their optimal capacity. To ensure that Vanderbijlpark Works achieves positive operating and financial results, a number of significant operational, productivity and cost efficiency improvements will be implemented over the next two years. ArcelorMittal South Africa has continued its constructive engagement with the South African Government on measures which would en-
sure the sustainability of the South African steel industry in the long term and is appreciative of the progress that has been made in this regard. In the end the processes that have been entered into have borne some positive results indeed. Let us hope that the total shut down of this steel giant which puts food on the table of many families in this region is totally avoided. Lerato...

the Forge at its Vereeniging Works. According to a statement issued by the steel giant the consultation process has yielded an alternative solution which will allow the Forge to continue operating, albeit at a reduced capacity. Its board has taken the decision to place the Meltshop under care and maintenance. The Meltshop will cease production during quarter four 2015 and, subject to finalisation of the process, it is estimated that this will have an impact on 283 employees. Mittal’s management reportedly continues to actively work with unions and Vereeniging employees to find ways to minimise job losses which is most welcome news indeed. It was also announced in August that the company would undertake a review of the Vanderbijlpark Works and its corporate services departments to optimise structures and minimise costs. This review, which used the services of independent experts, has now concluded.

PROF BEDA MADE MY ENEMIES TO CONFESS. Several years of unhappiness in marriage, lead to loneliness & continuously crying. After hearing testimonies about prof BEDA on the radio & newspaper. My old friend’s son had been saved from drugs & alcohol abuse by prof BEDA, so I visited him! For only R.100 prof BEDA read all my problems accurately & told me about my past life background of my marriage using a mirror in a dish of water. He showed the real face of my enemies as well as my husband’s girlfriend. “He performed a special prayer & gave me powerful love crystals to use at my work & one for my businesses” in a week I applied for a tender I succeeded. He can solve other problems like; Financial problems. Man power performance. Promotion at work, and many more….. Don’t suffer PROF BEDA he is there for you’ let him fight for your life.

Despite the “cold war” of the local football administrators, there are positive developments in this region. Firstly, Emfuleni Local Football Association will host Safa D License in conjunction with NWU Vaal Campus from 7-13 December. Safa Sedibeng is under administration and the office has since been locked because of outstanding rent.

On a positive note
As they say: give credit where it’s due and that’s exactly what TOUCHLINE is going to do. Congratulations are in order to ELFA Chairman Mondli Nkosi and his entire executive committee. A job well done gentlemen! The junior leagues are also in full swing or, should I say, underway every weekend at the various venues in Sedibeng. However, TOUCHLINE gives credit to those development coaches for being focused regardless of our current situation.
Emfuleni Local Football Association Chairman Mondli Nkosi was right when he said football is not about individuals but youngsters who dream of becoming professional soccer players. However, as much as football is played every weekend in some areas like Bophelong, the junior league is still not playing. This is a concern for TOUCHLINE because this is one area that is blessed when it comes to soccer talent. There are household teams such as Bophelong Barcelona, Bophelong Milano FC
that have been the part of the football structure for many years but they are no longer part of the league because of what has transpired in local football. TOUCHLINE advises the Emfuleni Local Football Association to visit the area and revive the junior league. We need those above-mentioned teams and TOUCHLINE is aware that there are tournaments in Bophelong organised by individuals to keep these youngsters busy. To be honest, our league without Bophelong is incomplete and I think many share the same sentiments as TOUCHLINE.
Pooe and MCS tournaments kick off Zacharia Nale
SEDIBENG.- It is that time of year when local soccer spectators flock to dusty soccer grounds to watch ‘diski nine’ at various venues in Sedibeng during the festive season. The popular Pooe Festive Soccer Tournament is scheduled to take place at the Beheman Rovers soccer ground in Evaton from December 15, while Moso Consulting Service (MCS) Tournament will take place at Pepsi, the James Ground and George Thabe Stadium from November 28. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, the Pooe Festival’s Soccer Tournament coordinator Mondli Nkosi says they invite all Gauteng teams to be part of this legacy tournament. The Pooe Festival Tournament is one of the oldest and most popular tournaments organised by local businessman
Kgokgi Pooe as part of his social responsibility to the Sedibeng community. This is one tournament that will bring Sedibeng to a standstill come the festive season with local soccer fans packing the venue to capacity for the past 10 years. This tournament is the pride of Sedibeng and high profile players like Steve ‘Chippa’ Lekoelea, Sailor Tshabalala, Lucky Mhlathi, Thabo Rakhale, Thabo Monyamane, Tsietsi Tukane, to mention but a few, have graced the tournament. Nkosi said the tournament will start with the senior teams in November and follow up with juniors on December 13. The tournament is divided into five categories: senior teams, u/13, u/15, u/17 and u/19. The winner in the senior category will smile all the way to the bank with a cheque for R100 000, the runner-up will receive R50 000, third place R30 000 and fourth place
R20 000. “We are looking forward to this year’s tournament and I have no doubt that it will attract more teams as from as far afield as Soweto. All the teams are invited to take part in the tournament regardless of where they come from. “This is one tournament to which we welcome everyone,” he said. MCS Tournament is another tournament popular among youngsters in this region. Tournament Chairman Mongezi Gusha said the tournament will start with the senior teams on the above-mentioned date. He said the juniors will start as soon as they finish their exams. Pooe Festive Soccer Tournament coordi nator Mondli Nkosi believes this year's tournament will attract more participants. In February 2015, SO and Natref were granted postponements to the 1 April 2015 compliance timeframes for some of their emission sources, regulated by the Minimum Emission Standards (MES), as published in terms of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act (NEMAQA) (Act No 39 of 2004). As a condition of the postponement decision, SO and Natref are required to develop an offset implementation plan for approval by the relevant authorities, subject to an appropriate public participation process. The Draft Offset Implementation Plan provides details of SO’s and Natref’s proposed offset activities in Zamdela to improve ambient air quality through community-based projects. They have decided to implement this plan jointly. Sasol and Natref value engagements with their stakeholders to ensure that the offset plan appropriately considers stakeholder inputs. SRK Consulting, an independent environmental consulting firm, has been appointed to conduct the above-mentioned public participation process.
