EVATON. - A case of murder and armed robbery has been opened and is being investigated by the Evaton Police after heartless thugs shot dead 80-year-old Julia Gambu during a robbery at the Evaton Plaza on Friday afternoon. Gambu met her death while she was shopping with her granddaughter. Apparently the incident happened when six armed men robbed a Group 4 Security money-transport van. The suspects orchestrated their plan, hitting Evaton Plaza while it was crowded. According to Poli-
ce the Group 4 guard was coming from Pick ‘n Pay when the incident occurred. All three guards in the van were disarmed by the six suspects, who fired erratically after overpowering the guards. A crossfire bullet ended up hitting Gambu, cleaving her heart, shedding her blood and leaving her lifeless body shamefully displayed as other shoppers ran out of the centre for cover. The six suspects are said to have then hit the road in a blue Toyota Camry, which was later found deserted in Palm Springs Plaza. Police spokesperson Constable Tshifhiwa Mitile-
ni says the same suspects were reported to have ditched their getaway car and hijacked another car, which was also found abandoned in Orange Farms Extension 6. Evaton Plaza Centre manager Koos Mofokeng says that Police are guarding the centre around the clock. The pensioner would have celebrated her 81st birthday the following day (Saturday).

Community members appreciate SAPS EVATON.- Rape is one of the most traumatic experiences anyone can go through. Coupled with the natural reaction of blaming oneself
for not ‘seeing it coming’ or preventing it from happening, society is quick to judge the character of a rape survivor and find every reason possible for blaming them. This follows 51 women around the Vaal being terrorised and raped by a former taxi driver from Orange
Farm, and his co-accused. They would pretend to take women to their destinations, but would then take them to the dump site near the Golden Highway. After raping them the women would be pushed out of the taxi, naked. Through good work by SAPS, both rapists were found guilty of a number of crimes ranging from rape, aggravated robbery, kidnapping, common robbery and sexual assault . Their sentence totalled 780 years
with each serving 49 and 51 additional years respectively; the additional time was over and above the 780 years they will serve. To celebrate that justice prevailed, families, victims and the community, recently held an event at the Beverly Hills Secondary School. The aim was to tell the story, uplift the morale of a despondent society which has lost faith in the legal system, and encourage reporting and non-withdrawal of cases by victims in general. On another spate of murders at Ennerdale, Warrant Officer Horn (Ennerdale SAPS) confirmed that a father, son and three friends were sentenced to multiple life sentences plus 255 years combined; these added to their life sentences for murder, house robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms.

‘Evil spell destroyed my RDP house’ Pinky Mofokeng
Maria Moletsane sits in the rubble of what is left of her razed RDP house. She ascribes the burning to ‘Vutha’, an evil spell. Photo: Pinky Mofokeng.

SHARPEVILLE. - No matter what you call it - spells of black magic or curses - it’s something people believe in and something people should apparently be aware of. This becomes clear following the Moletsane family’s RDP house going up in smoke apparently as a result of ‘Vutha’, an evil spell. Maria Moletsane (75) who lives in Tshepiso phase 2, recently found her house burned to the ground. A passer-by apparently noticed thick smoke coming out of a window but, before they could do anything, the furniture and most of Moletsane’s clothes had burnt to ashes. The family claims it can no longer be patient with the Ward Councillor who promised that the house would be fixed soon and that she would supply clothes and food for the time being. While Moletsane waits for help from the Councillor,‘nyaope’ addicts allegedly vandalised the house and stole her stove, fridge, and oven. She says, “I want my house fixed because the life that I am living now is not fun. Can someone please help fix my house?”

SEBOKENG. - Last week Saturday Zone 20 residents were horrified by the stabbing death of Johannes Motlokwa Mollo (36), apparently by his own girlfriend. Mollo’s girlfriend was granted R1 000 bail by the Sebokeng Magistrates Court on Tuesday after being arrested at the scene. Family spokesperson Daddy Mollo says all relatives were

As a family we remained peaceful and hoped for justice. ” He further says there was even the public confession made by the suspect to the family and residents after the murder. Police further rubbed salt into the family’s wound at the funeral, advi-

Bigger heads should roll Lerato Serero News Editor
Comments “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others” (George Orwell). Never am I one to enter political debates that are nonsense, but the topic that has been on everyone’s lips over the past two weeks or so demands my appraisal. A chartered Gupta family jet made an unauthorised landing at the Waterkloof Air Force Base, a national key point, last week. It was carrying guests to the wedding of Vega Gupta and Aakash Jahajgarhia. The jet was moved off the base on Thursday afternoon amid widespread criticism. Several police officers allegedly formed a con-
voy of private vehicles illegally fitted with blue lights, sirens and illegal number plates, to escort the Gupta wedding party from Waterkloof to Sun City. The officers allegedly carried their service weapons while performing private duties in contravention of the Firearms Control Act. The Gupta-gate scandal has proven to all and sundry that in South Africa there are those who are given treatment clearly more ‘special’than the treatment given to others. There is nothing to criticize when it comes to the wedding itself (it’s just a wedding, after all, and it is their money to spend anyway), but the organisers went as far as threatening the country’s national security by landing at one of the national key points ‘without permission’. This says it all. Someone should be held accountable but answers are not forthcoming. That the family has asked for forgiveness makes no difference, what with reports that the wedding was marred by allegations of sexual assault, racism and flouting of government regulations. Never would I have commented on the wedding as I was

not there, nor do I even care who the heck the Guptas are, but what I need to emphasise is that heads should roll - and not only the heads of those junior government employees that abused state resources in the name of a few thousand from this affluent family - but also of those that are in the highest positions of this country, who are the ones you and I know are those responsible for handling such matters. These people must definitely have known about the security threat issue. I mean - how do you explain how the commander-inchief of the South African National Defence Force did not know that a private jet was landing at the Waterkloof Military Base? Had the Guptas followed the correct procedures as required by this country’s laws I would not have been making you aware that “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others”. The media is correct in standing by its facts and saying that we (the media) demand answers and from here ‘bigger’ heads should indeed roll. Lerato…

The newly born baby was blessed and renamed Wildebeesfontein Evaton 536 IQ Transvaal Trust. Both president Tuis September of WECA and former president of WECO, Solomon Mthwalo, said the committee consists of six interim members from each site. Mthwalo said the request for the join structure was suggested by Kate Koloane of Land Reform . Koloane told the committee that she was instructed by the office of the minister the two parties merge and work together to finalise the land issue case. Mthwalo mentioned that they have been ‘promised their land’ by the end of June. The interim committee will be active until the case is finalised. A reconciliation report has been compiled that will be submitted before the end of May, he said. He said lack of communication and transparency between the two parties resulted in misunderstanding. On how he feels about the long separate road they have travelled, September said as long as the two parties remain united, he does not have a problem. September says: “It has been my dream to see the two structures working together to achieve the objectives of the community.” He adds that WECA was fighting for the stands while WECO concentrated mostly on the evictions and demands that the land be given back to owners.

Safa launches u/13 and u/15 league Zacharia Nale
SEDIBENG. - At last the junior soccer league will kick start in this region. This is after Safa in conjunction with the 2010 FIFA World Cup Legacy Trust launched a development programme on the history of football – the Safa u/13 and u/15 league. The move marks the beginning of the implementation of a critical component of the Safa Master Plan – the building of a rich and robust talent identification and development pipeline. This mouth-watering news was announced by Safa during a press conference last Monday. The leagues will kick off in all the association’s 311 Local Football Association (LFA) this month. Several coordinators, who are currently being trained, will be responsible for the roll-out of the programme in their respective LFAs. Philip Ndlovu was one of the coordinators who attended the workshop from this region. Ndlovu says he is working tirelessly to make sure the leagues kick off in two weeks’ time. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sports, Ndlovu says all the junior soccer teams must be ready
and start getting their documents in order. “I appeal to all junior soccer teams to start organising their players’ documents because we intend to start in two weeks’ time. Safa wants all the regions to start with the league and I’m happy because I was part of the co-ordinators who attended the workshop,” said Ndlovu. Meanwhile, all the junior soccer leagues are invited to attend the meeting scheduled to take place at the Community Hall in Sebokeng’s Zone 14 on Friday at 17:00. Safa president Kirsten Nematandani says this is the first phase in the implementation of the Technical Master Plan, which is intended to enable the organisation to reach its goal in the next decade of being consistently at the Top in Africa and in the Top 20 of the world. 2010 FIFA World Cup Legacy Trust chairman Danny Jordaan stated that this is the project in which the Trust invests the most funds during the first round of allocations. “The Board of Trustees wants to see a programme that will make an impact on the development of football and that will see the national teams improve their standing on the continent and in the world over the next 20 years,” says Jordaan.
