Pastor left churchless on Sunday Pinky Mofokeng
SEBOKENG. - A pastor’s job is to feed his followers spiritually, to strengthen the feeble, to heal the sick and to comfort those in pain. But unfortunately Pastor Radebe could not perform his duties, as he was left shocked and tentless on Sunday morning. He was apparently preparing himself for his church’s morning service when members of the Zone 10 Extension 3 (ward 36) community approached him and demanded answers to promises that he had made to fence off the stand and arrange security for the tent that his congregation uses. This was the tent in which two women, one of them a school pupil, were apparently raped recently. One of them is said to have been held hostage in the tent for over five days. There have also been allegations of ‘nyaope’ users using the tent as a hide out. After a community meeting at the Mohaladitoe Secondary School an agreement was reached that community members would proceed to the stand and destroy the tent. With Radebe at the site, livid community members began pulling
the tent down and warned himto get out of the area and get rid of the tent as it was a huge source of crime. He was heard asking, “Why are you doing this to me? I did not rape anyone. May God be with you.” Some of the angry community members almost attacked him during the scuffle while others advised him to take his tent and leave the area in peace. There were also threats to burn the tent down but this did not transpire. A community member says, “He does not stay in this area; he is from Zone 6, yet he comes and puts up a tent for church in this area. We have warned him for years now that he should do something about the tent, but he did not listen. Our lives are in danger because of that place. He must go.” Radebe says, “I did not rape anyone! I promised these people I would set up a fence and look for security by September. They have not given me a chance.” While the community disputes that Radebe owns the stand he is vehement that the stand is his. The name of Radebe’s church is unknown to Sedibeng Ster.

Masakhane headache in ward 36 Pinky Mofokeng
SEBOKENG. - The Emfuleni Local Municipality has Ward 36 residents in a panic. This comes after some community members received threatening letters from the municipality telling them that they have 72 hours to come forward and make necessary payment arrangements. If they fail to do so, their water and electricity would be cut off. This community feels that council has been unfair as they are the only community that received threatening letters. A community member revealed that the council is threatening to auction the Zone
10 houses and that the community should be extra careful when dealing with the municipality. The community members say that that the only solution would be if the municipality comes and takes out the old meters and make arrangements to start over with payments. A concerned resident says, “They told me to make necessary arrangements or pay half of the money otherwise they will cut off my water and electricity. “When I went to the Emfuleni offices I was told that these are only estimations. They then told me to come with my readings. When we checked on the screen my
payments were correct from 2007 but in 2011, I suddenly owed R47 000 for water alone and, last year and for only six months, I owed R7 000 for electricity. The official only deleted the R47 000 and promised to fix the electricity issue this month.” says a community member. Emfuleni Local Municipality spokesperson, Klaas Mofomme says, “This is not a new thing. It has been done since 2012. People who feel that their ratings are incorrect should go to the Accounts Department at the Emfuleni Local Municipality and enquire. It is not just Zone 10 residents who received letters. Everyone must pay rates and taxes.”

EVATON. - Too many Lakeside community members have been unlawfully evicted over the past few years and people found themselves spending thousands in cash to get out of an eviction situation, but they were unsuccessful. It is because of this that a few community members decided to form an organisation to help members who have been unlawfully evicted. Senzeni MA Africa Community Organisation (SMACO) is a non-profit body that deals with Housing and Human Rights. Smaco president Luca Sithole says the community doesn’t have knowledge regarding Housing Rights so they allow themselves to be treated unlawfully. “At SMACO we intervene as soon as we’re needed and stop the enforcement of unlawful evictions,” Sithole says. According to SMACO chairperson, Maria Radebe, it was the expression on children’s faces after seeing their clothes on the streets that motivated them to form this organisation. “I hate seeing children humiliated; if someone has to be evicted a legal procedure must be followed,” says Radebe. SMACO deals with threatened evictions, deed cases, disputes of ownership, and much more. SMACO is a non-profit organisation that still needs funding. “If people become members of SMACO they will spend less,” Sithole says. SMACO is just a year old and because it goes all out to help members, it has clinched successful results and has many satisfied members. “People should not wait for things to get out of hand. If anyone receives eviction threats they should come to the office immediately and get help,” Sithole says.

Two accidents claim three lives Mduduzi Mathebula
SEBOKENG. - One person lost his life in a taxi accident on the Golden Highway on Wednesday morning. The busiest road in the Vaal was obliged to close and motorists had to use alternative roads. It is alleged that the Golden Highway is under a bad spell. The deceased died soon after the accident when paramedics were unable to save his life. It has been rumored that he is a school principal but this had not been confirmed by the Department of Education by the time of going to press. The accident occurred at about 07:00 in the morning during rush hour. Filled with learners, the taxi collided with the private car driven by the unknown alleged school principal, who was declared dead minutes after the collision. Emfuleni traffic officer Lesole Maduna confirms the accident. Fifteen learners who were in the taxi on their way to school were rushed to hospital to be treated for shock and injuries. A case of culpable homicide has been opened and is being investigated by the Sebokeng Police.

Paseka Motloung and Lerato Snoek are in a six-year relationship but Motloung apparently has another ‘sidekick’ (uMakhwapheni) who is known to his girlfriend (Snoek). All hell broke loose on Friday night when the two women each wanted their man with them. Motloung was obliged to stop the catfight that erupted between Snoek and ‘uMakhwapheni’. The situation was resolved when the parties agreed to sleep on one bed. Apparently the argument between the two women erupted due to the sleeping arrangement. Apparently ‘uMakhwaMaletsatsi Falatsi stands in the middle of her room. She pheni’ sneaked out of the still can not believe her eyes. Her shack was set ablaze by bed and set it on fire. The surprise was when a second fire erupted in the wardrobe just after they managed to put out the first one on the bed. Apparently ‘uMapkhwapheni’ lighted two candles and with one she burned the bed and threw the second into the wardrobe, which the couple did not notice. They were surprised by blazing flames. The vicious fight went through six rooms burning their belongings to ashes and leaving nothing behind. On Sedibeng Ster’s arrival on the scene tenants were in tears. Tenant Gloria Mokanyane says everything she had has been destroyed by the fire - her birth certificate, her ID and other valuable items. Police spokesperson Constable Tshifhiwa Mitileni says a case of arson has been opened and is being investigated. “A young woman whose name has to be omitted till she appears in the Magistrates Court was detained and is in police custody,” he concluded.

She is trying to divide the community,”Mgemezulu says. PAC backs Mphahlele as their president Lazarus Dithagiso
SEBOKENG. - As the other political parties are hard at work preparing for the national elections, the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) seems to be clouded with trouble over the leadership. Some top officials are baying for the head of president Letlapa
Mphahlele to be overthrown, aimed to make room for Marius Moloto. Strong measures will be taken against the disgruntled Moloto, former secretary, and Bennet Joka, says national spokesperson Appa Pooe. According to Pooe the decision taken at the national executive committee (NEC) of PAC
is that no officials except supporters have the right to decide the future of PAC. Pooe had no doubts that Mphahlela would stay on as president. This battle for leadership is apparently caused by a minority of disgruntled group who want to have seats in Parliament. Pooe says
that the PAC backs Mphahlele 100% despite rumours that since he took over from Motsoko Pheko, the number of supporters has declined. The party aims to add the number of the seats from the local municipality to national. “ I would say it’s only individual ghosts battling for positions,” says Pooe.
ELM still to suspend DA Councillor VANDERBIJLPARK. - Its not yet clear if the Speaker of Emfuleni municipality, Councillor Msebenzi Gqoloshe, is going to suspend Democratic Alliance (DA) Ward Councillor Attie Moleko. Moleko, together with his mother, recently appeared briefly at the Sebokeng Magistrate’s Court. They were charged with
fraud before being released on R1000 bail each with the case being postponed until June 10. Moleko’s possible suspension pends the further internal investigation to be conducted by the municipality. Councillor Eric Tshabalala, Chief Whip said the Speaker is waiting for the report on the internal investigation.
Approached for comment, DA Caucus regional leader Simon Mollo said the matter will be discussed at the party’s meeting. It can not be ruled out that Moleko might face suspension from the municipality; this comes after his mother was arrested after she collected money from tenants in Evaton. She apparently
informed the tenants that the land belongs to her. Moleko’s arrest followed the allegation made by the tenants that the stamp belongs to him. It has been alleged that Moleko went further to promise the tenants that he was going to install electricity, a new fence and water taps at the stand.

From dumping area to dropin centre Fatima Phiri
EVATON. - “It takes a community to raise a child”. These are the words of Thandi Khanyile, founder of the ‘Thy Kingdom’ care centre in Zone 3. Khanyile transformed a dumping area into a drop-in centre last year after she observed that there was a need for a centre or orphanage in the community to accommodate children who have lost parents to the HIV\Aids virus. According to Khanyile most of the kids stay with grandparents who are unable to take care of them, so they decided to do something. “Children come to the centre after school to eat and do their homework,” Khanyile says. Khanyile is a kind-hearted woman who caters for orphans and vulnerable parents and also helps the kids with their homework. “I involve my kids in Drama, Dance and Art so that they can acquire skills,” Khanyile says. ‘Thy Kingdom’ centre consists of 42 volun-
teers who help elderly people who are unable to take care of themselves due to the virus. They also help the children with their homework assignments. According to Khanyile, ‘Thy Kingdom’ centre is just a year old but has already helped a lot of children and elderly people, even though they don’t have funds and she has to use her own money. “It is challenging to invite kids to the centre because we need proof that they are orphans and their guardians are skeptical, thinking we are after their money.” Adding that she feels helpless when kids come to her with no clothes and shoes and she hopes community members and businesses can assist her with clothes and food for the children. Khanyile says that she does not want her centre to be involved in feeding only, but in other needs as well. “If people can have a heart for children who are poor and hungry, then a difference can be made,” she ends.

GOMECC supports Vaal organisations Fatima Phiri
SEBOKENG -. The Gauteng Organisation of Community Arts and Culture Centres (GO-
MECC) hosted a two-day workshop in Sebokeng Zone 12 for the various organisations around the Vaal recently. The aim of the
workshop was to advise the many organisations on how an organisation should be handled as well as how to make a success of it. Muzi Malindi and Jerry Mabuzo were the guest speakers from GOMECC. They stressed how important it was for organisations to dedicate all their time towards the establishment of their organisations. “No matter how tough it gets, each individual should achieve their goals,” Mabuzo says. GOMECC aims to help all Arts and Culture groups around Gauteng to build concrete foundations for future artists with the several workshops they host. During this workshop the importance of having an
auditor to handle finances was highlighted. Mabuzo says that if an organisation dissolves, all its assets and other material should be given to other groups that have the same objective as theirs. Some of the key points mentioned were the importance of Social Development and how having a solid business plan with all the necessary documents will benefit organisations. Mabuzo also stressed how important it is to comply with SARS regulations. GOMECC communicated the message they hope to disseminate, encouraging and assisting all organisations dealing with Arts and Culture in the near future.

I silently weep! SHOOTING FROM THE HIP With Zacharia Nale
After eight years of drought for the Premier Soccer League Title, Kaizer Chiefs clinched top points to be kings of South African football when they snatched the title convincingly with 57 points and three defeats in the 30 games they have played. Chiefs fans could not hold back their excitement, to such an extent that the busiest road in the Vaal (Moshoeshoe) was closed in Zone 11 and at the Zone 12 Post Office. There were shouts and screams of - “We are the champions.” Photo: Mduduzi Mathebula.
Lennox is the man! Zacharia Nale
SEDIBENG - Marius Lennox is determined to leave no stone unturned in his mission to revive boxing in the region. He was speaking after he was voted chairman of the Sedibeng Boxing Association during the Boxing Indaba recently held at the Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone 14 recently. More than 30 delegates including top-level representatives of various stakeholders attended this Boxing Indaba. The main objective was to elect people who would work tirelessly toward the revival of this sport. Some stakeholders were the Gauteng Department of Sports, Emfuleni Local Municipality, coaches, trainers, and members of the public who are keen on boxing. The new interim committee of five delegates was mandated to assess the state of current boxing clubs operating in Sedibeng to date. The assessment will go toward a report that will
be submitted to the Gauteng Department of Sport, which promises to provide boxing equipment. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Lennox said he could save the future of Sedibeng boxing after this successful Indaba. “Beside equipment and venues we will also be looking at qualifications. We want to empower coaches and provide them with relevant training to prepare them for the future. This way we ensure top level training for the boxers, which will ultimately lead to quality boxers. Everyone at the indaba was very excited about the new direction boxing is taking and this revival was long overdue,” concluded the newly elected chairman. The rest of the committee members are David Makhuru (Deputy Chairman), Simangele Mabuza (Secretary), Nkosana Sithole (Deputy Secretary) and Phenius Zondani (Treasure).

If ever there is any sport that makes me want to tour the world, it can only be football! Yes, football! Over the weekend,‘Shooting From The Hip’ visited Kwa-Thema in Springs. Obviously, it was on football business! If there is anything that would make me sin it’s football. This is a topic for another day! This is the town that produced great players such as former Kaizer Chiefs great Nelson “Teenage” Dladla. I was touched when one of the local development coaches showed me the dusty soccer grounds “Teenage” Dladla used to play on. The grounds are not far from Kwa-Thema Stadium. Those of you who have a good memory will remember how the late Edward “The Lip” Nene was killed when he tried to recruit Teenage Dladla to join Kaizer Chiefs. It was the most tragic incident in South African football. Nene was one of the hardest-working football administrators to have emerged in South African football. May his soul rest in peace! Back to Springs, I found myself thinking back to when football was really entertaining. For starters, during those days soccer was played for entertainment - not money as is the case today. What I find very strange about Springs is that people there don’t support football. I was there from morning til late but the attendance at the stadium was not what ‘Shooting From The Hip’ expected. Why? I asked other former great Innocent “Ayoba” Mayoyo, who is also involved in the development of football in the area, why people here don’t support football. This former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper told me that people lost interest after the likes of Teenage Dladla retired from football. ‘Shooting From The Hip’ was disappointed because Springs produces great players and the Dldadla legacy must not come to an end just like that. ‘Shooting From The Hip’ wanted to see his icon but I was told he lives somewhere in the suburbs. I was in pain because this man was my role model. When I remember when I was still playing soccer that my sister wrote “Teenage Dladla” on the back of my T-shirt and No 11. I was 14 years old then. I don’t know whether this was just a coincidence because Abia (Nale) was given this No 11 jersey when he joined Kaizer Chiefs. The question I now ask myself is: was my sister predicting something? Only God knows why she decided to write the name and No 11 of this legend on my T-shirt. This might sound like too much of a story to be true! On Saturday I was standing there, watching an empty soccer field and thinking back to how the crowd used to react when “Teenage” Dladla got the ball. I asked myself the question that I did not have answers to and silently wept! This is the same soccer field once graced by one of the most celebrated players in the history of South African football. Those dusty soccer fields must not be destroyed because they hold good memories for South African football. That Springs soccer field is still the same field on which “Teenage” Dladla played so, in a sense, he is still playing there.

Bitter battle awaits local soccer fans Zacharia Nale
SEDIBENG. - Tempers will be flying high when Young Milano clashes with VUT FC in the Emfuleni Promotion League match scheduled to take place at the George Thabe Stadium on Saturday. There is more to play for than three points come Saturday. A “bitter” rivalry boils between these two sides. Milano coach Tebello “Benza” Kheswa left the VUT development in a controversial manner when he was told by the VUT Sports Department that they had closed development. There was a war of words between the two parties regarding this decision. Back to the game! “The Students” are at the summit of the log and they are the only team yet to taste defeat in Stream A. This is one game that promises to be a `humdinger` of an event. However, Young Milano FC have become “bontetekeng” of the league. They come into this game still licking their wounds after losing 1-0 to Liverpool on Saturday. But this doesn’t mean they will be like sheep to the slaughter on Saturday. It is going to be an interesting game with tempers and tackles that
can only fly high. The rest of the weekend fixtures: STREAM B: Saturday Moropoli vs Junior Lions (Sport Center, 11:00) Ventage vs Reki Manyora (Sport, Center, 13:00) Sebokeng Academy vs Celta Vigo (Zone 15, 13:00) EYA vs Dream Team (Zone 7, 13:00) West FC vs Roots Mighty Boys (Zone 3,15:00) Sunday Zone 10 United vs Tokyo (Zone 7, 11:00) City Stars vs Mighty Killers (Zone 15, 15:00) West Ham vs Roshnee (Sports Center, 15:00) STREAM A: Nale Academy vs Liverpool (Shakespeare, 13:00) Sunday: The Birds vs Young Stars (Boipatong, 11:00)
VUT Athletics Club on roll Zacharia Nale
VANDERBIJLPARK. - Xolisani Zakele will represent South Africa in the World Students Game scheduled to take place in Russia from July 7-17. This runner of the Vaal University of Technology’s (VUT’s) Athletics Club achieved this feat after he finished second during the Vaal Marathon with a world standard record - 65:30. His coach, Joseph Diale believes that Zakele is going places if his current performance is anything to go by. He was full of praise for this youngster saying Zakele is one of the VUT Athletic Club’s best performers to date. “The boy has a bright future ahead of him and what I like about him is that he is eager to learn. I have no doubt that he will make a name for himself in this sport like others before him here at VUT,” says Diale. Although Diale singled out Zakele, he says there are other runners such as John Thipe, Karabo Jacobs, Robinson Matsi, Peter Mak-
hoi and Collin Mulaudzi, who did exceptionally well for VUT Athletics Club recently during the University Championship held in Durban. According to Diale, VUT Athletics Club was crowned champion, successfully defending the title they won last year, thanks to the above-mentioned runners. As if this is not enough, the Students also excelled in the SA Junior Track and Field event held in Pretoria last month. Teboho Modise and Koketso Mogapi did exceptionally well in the High Jump and Triple Jump respectively. Diale says this was the first time in the history of the institution, that medals were clinched in this code. He says VUT Athletics Club is ready to conquer athletics in this region and province. Meanwhile, VUT Athletics Club will host a cross-country league at Isak Steyl Stadium on Saturday. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport about this event, Diale believes that the best talent will be on display come Saturday.

Stars player assaults match offical Zacharia Nale
BOIPATONG. - The lives of referees are in danger if the football authority doesn’t act as a matter of urgency regarding this situation. Not long ago a soccer fan attacked a match official with a ‘vuvuzela’ during the recent Absa Premier Soccer League between Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows. There was also an ugly scene here at home when Mighty Stars FC player assaulted referee Kgotso Makuna during the Aaron Mokoena Mbazo Tournament at the Boipatong Stadium recently. The player punched the match official after a decision went against his team. Sedibeng Ster Sport did not expect this from a team that plays in the football structure of this region. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, tournament coordinator Philip Ndlovu says he very disappointed with the team’s behaviour. Ndlovu says as the tournament organiser, that the behaviour of the team is condemned. “We are going to take a harsh decision against the team because the tournament was not about winning, it was about the development of football in this region. I’m very disappointed because the club played under the football structure but their behaviour doesn’t show that. Look, people like Aaron Mokoena make an effort to contribute to the development of football, but some people are ungrateful. Assaulting a referee is a crime, and match officials have a right to open an assault charge against the player,” says disappointed Ndlovu. Despite the incident, Ndlovu hailed the tournament a success.
