SEDIBENG.- The African National Congress (ANC) has won its fight to have the Vaal area turned into a Metropolitan City. The Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) announced on Tuesday that the Democratic Alliance (DA) led MidVaal Local Municipality will merger with Emfuleni Local Municipality, Sedibeng District Municipality and Lesedi Local municipality to form a Metro. This will not go without a fight from the DA who have said that they will take legal action if the merger takes place. The DA has always been vehemently against the merger stating that the proposed merger was not viable as the MidVaal was capable of sustaining itself without the merger and that the incorporation of other municipalities will destabilise its resources. “The next case is that of the redetermination of municipal boundaries of Emfuleni, MidVaal, Local Municipalities and Sedibeng District Municipality amalgamating them into a single Category A Metropolitan Municipality. With the formation of the metropolitan municipality, the Sedibeng ANC Regional Chair person and Sedibeng District Municipality Executive Mayor Simon Mofokeng is behind the idea of the mer ger for the area to be turned into a Metro. District Municipality will fall away. In addition Lesedi Local Municipality will be excluded from Sedibeng District Municipality and be included into Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality,” says a statement by the MDB. Speaking during a networking session at the Riveria Hotel in Vereeniging on Friday, Sedibeng District Municipality mayor and ANC Regional Chairperson Simon Mofokeng said, “The ANC has injected the idea in the lips, tongues and minds of the residents around Midvaal to rest assured that once we take over, we are going to bring a better life.” Mofokeng said that the concerns raised by

the public at different meetings regarding service deliveries, are being given attention. MDB Chairperson Landiwe Mahlangu is reported to have said on Tuesday that the board had received 10 000 objections to the cases it had published with the majority of objections coming from the Gauteng area. Throughout the process political parties have differed about the proposed merger of turning the four municipalities into a single Metropolitan Municipality. Sedibeng District Municipality Acting Director of External Communications Lebo Mofokeng says, “The debate on the ‘Metro’ issue has instilled a sense of apprehension in the minds of some residents. We want to assure all the residents of the affected areas that an intensive consultation process will unfold henceforth to explain the migration process as we move the countdown to ‘Day Zero’ which will be the election day in 2016. The Sedibeng District Municipality welcomes the announcement with a firm focus on the enormous task ahead in managing the migration process and establishing sound systems of governance and above all, service delivery for the new Vaal Metro.” DA Sedibeng Regional Chairperson Daddy Mollo says that they are going to takethe matter further. “ We are definately taking this matter further as we believe that the decisison was politically motivated, hence we are saying that we are going to fight this with everything that we have through the courts,” he ends.

Life imprisonment is the only suitable punishment: Magistrate The sun will never shine again for Simon Motsoeneng who was sentenced to 10 ye ars for robbery and to life in prison for mur der.

SEBOKENG. – The Sebokeng Regional Court has found Simon Motsoeneng guilty on all charges relating to a gruesome murder.. The court heard how the accused together with his friend entered a house to find the owner sleeping in Zone 14 in the early hours of the morning in January. The suspects tied the victim’s hands and legs before cutting his throat. The two left their weapons in a pool of blood and drove off with the

deceased’s silver Toyota Corolla. The police continued with investigations that led to the arrest of the two suspects. 26-year-old Motsoeneng finally appeared alone in the Sebokeng Regional Court on October 3. He was sentenced tan additional life sentence for murder. “Motsoeneng’s friend - who cannot be named as the matter has not been finalised - will appear soon at the court,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mzimkhulu Mthimkulu.

BOIPATONG. – Businessman Oupa Ngwenya narrowly escaped death on Friday when his new Mercedes Benz Viano burst into flames on Frikkie Meyer Boulevard. The sudden fire happened without warning, according to the driver. He was driving from Evaton to Vanderbijlpark when the incident occurred at about 15:00. “I don’t know what happened and why it happened to me,” says Ngwenya, who was rushing home from work when the incident happened. Apparently the car is a month old and Ngwenya had been using it for almost two weeks. As he was about to reach

the Boipatong robots Ngwenya says he smelled some smoke coming from the bonnet and he stopped to check it out. As he opened the bonnet he was almost engulhed by flames that were suddenly being fed air.“I had the shock of my life as I opened the bonnet. I thought it was just smoke from wires. To my surprise it was something much bigger. I had to move away from the car. I tried to stop the fire with the help of other motorists. We used about five to six fire extinguishers but our efforts were fruitless,” says Ngwenya. The car burnt into ashes right under his nose. Police were deployed but no case was opened. Emfuleni Fire Rescue was

also there but could not prevent the violent fire. “ I thank God I’m alive,” concludes Ngwenya.

Angry Tshepiso Phase 5 community members say they want electricity and will not back down until they get it. They took to the streets on Monday. Photo: Pinky Mofokeng.

SHARPEVILLE. - ‘Dark City’, as many know Tshepiso South Phase 5, is at it again. This comes after angry residents took to the streets on Monday morning and barricaded the busy Boy Louw Road with stones. The community showed their frustration with songs of the ‘apartheid era’ as they were promised electricity years ago but to this day are still waiting for it. They claim that too many people have lost their lives in fires that broke out due to the use of gas or candles. It is apparently not the first time these residents closed roads in order for their pleas to be heard. According to them it’s their Councillor Velli Mzangwa who allegedly failed to address them, not taking them seriously by not holding meetings or sharing any information with them. They claim that councillors only know them when they want votes. Officials from the Emfuleni Local Municipality. MMC Nomvula Thulo and MMC Manana Kubeka, managed to calm the crowd down by assuring them that they would get feedback within 14 days as to when the

contractors will start with electricity installation. The promises seemingly gave them hope abut some said that all hell will break loose if it turns out that they have been misled. “We are aware of your situation. The project was supposed to have started in July but the tender process takes time. “We agreed with some of the MMCs and the mayor that some things need attention and that we should take this situation to regulation 32. We are done with regulation 32. What is left is just to appoint a company that will start working,” says MMC for Basic Services Nomvula Thulo.

Stand up for your money Lerato Serero

SEDIBENG.- “Our people need to stand up and know that they have money that aisowed to them!” So says Camuel Dikotla of the Wildebeest Evaton Community Organisation (WECO, Maranatha) who has vowed to help the Vaal community reclaim what he says is rightfully theirs. Dikotla says that his organisation helps families with claims such as surpluses, provident funds, pension funds, motor vehicle accidents, medical aid claims and unpaid salaries. “Our people have long been robbed of what belongs to them so we are making a call to them tso they know that we are here to help them with correct information and documents. We are making sure that they reclaim their moniey which is lying in government coffers,” he says. Dikotla says that most people do not know that they have money that is lying somewhere with administrators and that they should come out and claim it. WECO, Maranatha is led by Solomon Mthwalo who has for years been fighting community issues such as evictions and land claims. “We call on all our people to contact us and we will take it from there, making sure that they get what they deserve,” ends Dikotla.

You have to let it go

Everything happens for a reason. The same way that everything happens for a reason, everything has to come to an end. It happened for a reason that Zwelinzima Vavi is suspended from Cosatu. Julius Malema was expelled from the ruling party for a reason, we all want to be millionaires

for a reason, the American government is under lock down for a reason and we are living in this world for a reason. Some things are meant to be. These well-worn clichés are bandied about by religious and non-religious alike, and the romantics among us can’t help but believe they conceal something true. Saying goodbye is the hardest thing to do, particularly when you are fond of so-

mething. But at a certain point in life this has to be done, ‘nomakanjane.’ As world renowned Bishop T. D. Jakes says, It does not help to keep holding on to something that is not fruitful for you. ‘Let it go.’ I love it when T.D. goes on to say, “There are people who can walk away from you. and when those people walk away from you, let them walk. “Don’t try to talk another person into staying with you, loving

you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached to you. Hang up the phone. “Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left. “People leave you because they are not joined to you. And if they are not joined to you, you can’t make them stay. Let them go.” Now this is just simple, just let it go! Lerato…

ELM woman busted Lazarus Dithagiso

VANDERBIJLPARK. A middle aged man is at large following the arrest of his alleged girlfriend by the Vanderbijlpark SAPS’s Task Team on Tuesday morning. The arrest follows a lengthy search by the Task Team after they received a tip-off about illegal operations that were taking place at a flat at the corner of Rutherford and Hertz Boulevard. The flat belongs to an Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) employee who is known to Sedibeng Ster, but cannot be named as she has not pleaded in court. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster on condition of anonymity, one of the residents says that police arrived and went straight for the flat where they found a couple, and as the police continued searching the rooms, the boyfriend went outside pretending to be talking on his cell phone. When police went out to look for him, he was nowhere to be found. In the the search police found R22 000 in cash, three stamps belonging to the Johan-

nesburg High Court, Standard Bank and one with just ‘Copy’ written on it. A key to a VW Polo TDI and a Plasma TV set were also confiscated. While searching one of the flats’ garages police discovered the VW Polo TDI which had in it Metro Police appointment cards, police official blue lights, and a grass cutting machine. Police say that the car was reported stolen during a house robbery in Roodeport. The woman is charged with being in possession of suspected stolen property. ELM spokesperson Klaas Mofomme confirms that the woman is employed by the municipality. “We will conduct our own investigations to give room for the police to complete their duty. This was the initiative of our Department of Public Safety to come up with an operation after receiving a tip off. The suspect will remain on the payroll until further investigation,” he said. “There’s no room for criminals in the municipality and those who think that they can do as they please must watch out,” he concludes.

Pandor opens newly built Home Affairs

Mduduzi Mathebula

SEBOKENG. - Minister of Home Affairs Naledi Pandor cut the red ribbon to officially open the newly built Sebokeng Home Affairs on Friday. The opening was followed with a very touching but brief speech about the history of how the place came into being by Sedibeng District Municipality Executive Mayor Simon Mahole Mofokeng and MEC for Social Development Naledi ManyathulaKhoza.

Mofokeng spoke about the divide between black and white during the 70s when black people were not allowed to apply for ID documents. Mofokeng further thanked the entire entourage that graced the event. Pandor - after the opening - greeted a staff delighted to bask in the warm hospitality of the launch. Lerato Afilaka (District Manager Operation Westrand and Sedibeng) touched on the usage of the offices and the building on which it is modelled. “It will be easy to use

for the able-bodied and disabled members of the public. We created the building according to a fixed standard of human rights in order to accommodate everybody. It has the latest technology for supervisors to access the product,” says Afilaka who promised great hospitality and service. Pledge to stop gender- Reading for redemption: based violence Correctional Services

Moleboheng Chaha

VANDERBIJLPARK. - Hundreds of men pledged to stop gender-based violence, rape and the killing of women and children. The theme was “Not in my name”. This theme was highly visible at the “positive male role models campaign” held by the Gauteng and National Departments of Social Development together with different stakeholders in the Bophelong Community Hall. The Gauteng MEC for Social Development Nandi Mayathula-Khoza at the event stated that the occasion was inspired by the fact that, despite disturbing acts of abuse initiated by perpetrators, there are still some men who care deeply about the women in their lives. Some of these men were honoured at the event. Khoza further stated that media reports indicated that some cases of abuse go unreported and that the abuse of women, children, older persons

and people with disabilities needs to be dealt with. Bafana Khumalo of Sonke Gender Justice says: “We need to build a nation that protects women and holds them in high regard. It is therefore vital that society in its entirety works together to combat gender-based violence. Some of the men awarded here today had a very tough journey; they did not start out doing good but they have now changed their ways and have become positive role models who now have a positive impact on society and own different NGOs.” While Deputy Minister of Social Development Bongi Ntuli shared the same sentiments of the speakers before her, she also highlighted the fact that boy-children have difficulties growing into good men as many of them grow up without a positive male rolemodel in their lives.

BOPHELONG. – ASEDI capacitated the Jehovaniss Topian Church recently. As usual the packed congregation filled the day with traditional songs and indigenous African talk. According to the church the celebration was to show young ones who Africans are and how they used to live. “We are people of the soil and the main objective of this day is to teach our children how we dressed and worshipped God,” says Richard Malemba. The church was alight with the Holy Ghost’s fire as they sang and danced. Tshumayelo Majoro was among the guest speakers in full traditional attire. Sister Dorothy Mphela, an organiser, says, “All the glory should be given to the Almighty for who we are today and to celebrate such a day of magnitude.” The church prepared traditional food from all different tribes while entertainment was offered by Walter Nkunga.

Bafana Bafana star Steve “Chippa” Lekoelea and SA’s legendary goalkeeper Innocent “Ayobayo” Mayoyo, who held a soccer clinic to the delight of Sebokeng’s budding football stars. The winning team and the top players walked away with fantastic Operation Khanyisa hampers. Those of school going age also received stationery packs. Community spirit filled the air as children and adults alike were excited not only to play ball, but also to pledge their commitment to be legal, safe and efficient power users, and to help fight electricity theft. SA’s renowned television stars Israel Makoe, who played GP in SABC drama Gaz’lam and Jerry Phele, known for his role as Mofokeng in popular sitcom Emzini Wezinsizwa, entertained the crowd with their hilarious stage antics.

Get rid of apartheid mentality in the game

SHOOTING FROM THE HIP With Zacharia Nale Shooting From The Hip has noted with keen interest the reason why coaching will remain a challenge in this region. There are two types of coaches in this region: those who have been in this game for donkey-years and ‘bo mafikizolo’(newcomers). Mind you, now and then the same boring argument will surface - “Don’t tell me about ‘Moketekete’ because he doesn’t know anything and he is new to football and coaching.” Real-

ly? So, wherever there is a debate or argument about something to do with coaching or technical matters, ‘bo mafikizolo’ will not participate, afraid of being told to keep quiet because they know nothing. My question is: can we really listen to someone who has been in football for the past 20 years even if he doesn’t make sense as far as coaching is concerned? How can you expect these up-and-coming coaches to listen or learn from a ‘tactically bankrupt’ coach? For those who care to listen, there are upand-coming coaches who have brought some innovation to our football as far as coaching is concerned. Pep Guardiola was relatively unknown when he was appointed to Spanishi La Liga giants - FC Barcelona’s head coach. In

fact, we knew little about him until he transformed Barcelona into an exciting outfit. My exact point is that there are many Pep Guardiolas in this region waiting to be discovered but - just because they are new in this game – we don’t give them a chance to grow. The fact of the matter is that we can’t continue to operate like an ‘apartheid regime’ when it comes to our football. Shooting From The Hip was listening with keen interest when one young coach came to me and based his quizzing of ‘Bra Zakes’ on the reasoning that: “These coaches who think they know everything are actually undermining us young coaches just because we are new in this game.” Then I advised this somewhat bemused young coach to take a pen and paper, analyse all the teams playing here and tell me what he thinks of them

and what kind of football they play according to the system. Indeed this poor young man did exactly as Shooting From The Hip asked him to do. The first thing he told Shooting From The Hip was: “I did not see anything special about the way their teams play. There was no creativity. They only play to win their games and their boys play like they were told - ‘Win this tournament.”’ He also said that his boys played more attractive football in comparison to those who claim to have been in football for as long as they remember. Listen! There are Pep Guardiolas out there just waiting to be discovered! In conclusion, to those teams who were knocked out in the MCS Soccer Tournament, don’t be discouraged - football is about more than results. Stay focused!

Ajax crowned Stream A champions

Zacharia Nale

SEDIBENG. - Sebokeng Academy and Sebokeng Ajax are the Emfuleni Local Football Assocition’s Promotion League Champions. They achieved this after the latter finished at the top of their respective streams. Sebokeng Ajax was crowned Stream A Champion while Sebokeng Academy was crowned Stream B Champion. However, the two will be pitted against one another to produce the winner that will represent Emfuleni at the Promotionl Play-Offs. The winner between the two will be involved in the play-offs with the Lesedi and Midvaal Local Football Association winners. After the Play-Offs the two top teams on

the log will be promoted to the Safa Sedibeng Castle Regional League. These much awaited play-offs are scheduled to take place this coming weekend and the venue was still undecided at the time of going to print. To date, this will be the second time Sebokeng Ajax has been crowned the league champions. Last season this Zone 12based blue-and-white outfitted team was crowned the league champions in Stream B before being relocated to Stream A. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Master Zondo was full of confidence, saying that his charges are more than ready to conquer the play-offs come the weekend. However, Zondo says, first they have to deal with Sebokeng

Academy - this before they can even start to think about Play-Offs. “For now the biggest obstacle is Sebokeng Ajax but I’m positive that my boys will overcome. They are quite aware that this might be their last chance to gain promotion to the SAB League. Although I would have loved to have more time to prepare the team for play-offs I’m satisfied with what I saw in the friendly games we have played so far,” says Zondo. Meanwhile, Sedibeng Ster Sports has learned that Vaal Stars FC is unhappy that Ajax has been

crowned the champions. They believe their team deserves to be the champions, according to the points. However, Emfuleni Local Football Association chairman Philip Ndlovu did not want to entertain this matter. “As far as I know Sebokeng Ajax is the Stream A champion and if anyone has a problem with this, they are just wasting their time, to say the least,” he concludes.

SEBOKENG. - Sedibeng Ster Sports this week profiles another up-and-coming female football administrator from the Sedibeng region. Jhaynee “Jay Jay” Moeketsi is only 21 but she is destined for a great future in football administration. Sedibeng Ster Sports caught up with this Vaal Milano FC administrator to find out how she ended up involved in football. “I was working at Slater Gym as an instructor and Vaal Milano management asked me to join their team. I agreed to help in administration and the rest is history.” Jay Jay, as she is known in foot-

ball circles, says her dream is to grow with Vaal Milano. She says she wants to be part of the club’s success. “I want to be part of this club until we get promoted to the National First Division. “ I have no intention to leave the club because it gave me the opportunity to do what I like most, which is administration. I want to thank Vaal Milano management for this opportunity and I have learned a lot of things since I started working here, especially when it comes to football,” she says.
