Traditional healer quizzed about gang Pinky Mofokeng
EVATON. - The recent terror of a gang notoriously known as ‘Wrong Turn’ that recently wrought havoc in Sebokeng has ended following the arrest of seven men. A question left on everybody’s lips, though, is who was really behind all the mayhem. Community members accuse a sangoma from Eatonside, saying that she gave the gang members muthi to make them ‘strong’ and wreak havoc within the community. The woman, Mmamonaheng Matshaneng, vehemently denies this. Matshaneng, originally from Butha Buthe in Lesotho, says that she is a traditional healer who only heals the sick. Sedibeng Ster reported on numerous occasions the stories of the gang who were said to have gone on a rampage injuring and killing people at will in and around Evaton and Sebokeng. Their favourite weapons were said to be pangas. On Friday, fed- up local traditional healers together with some street community members took time out and visited Matshaneng to confront her with the allegations that she was the ‘force’ behind the gang and that she gave the young men pangas covered with muthi and also cut them with razors before applying muthi to their bodies so that they could be fearless. When quizzed further about an estimated eightfeet well in her yard she said that she dug it herself guided by her ancestors, and uses its water to heal the sick. The community claims that she uses the hole as a hiding place for her evil deeds and killer thugs. Matshaneng says, “I don’t know anything about a group called ‘Wrong Turn’ and I don’t know anything about cutting them with razors and applying muthi to the wounds to make them fearless. I am just as surprised as you that they are accusing me of something I know nothing about.” She sturdily repeats that she is a legitimate traditional healer whose documents burned in her house, the house was apparently set on fire by the angry community following the recent mayhem. Solomon Mofokeng, Chairperson of the Sedibeng Initiation Tradition Surgeons Committee says, “We will not sit back and watch fake healers destroy our communities. That hole will be closed and all the terror will be silenced for good.”

SEBOKENG. – Missing without a trace, a 16year-old Botebo- Tsebo Secondary School learner from Zone 17 Ouma Makgomo Mosesi disappeared recently after she attended a nearby funeral. The Mosesi family is in search of their lovely, beautiful and vibrant young girl who went missing last Saturday. The family nightmare started before the 16-year-old went missing. The young woman received sexual SMSs and reported them to her parents, who later asked her not to use the phone.Misfortune continued to brew as the stalker further sent the SMSs to the young girls mother’s’phone (Ntshebo Mosesi). After some time of not using her phone Mosesi used her phone and the stalker was back. His SMSs now changed from sexual threats to death-threats. According to the family, the stalker seemed to know Mosesi’s every move, sending the

SMSs soon afterwards. One of the SMS shown by the family “I am going 2 kill u nd ‘keho, lahlele kahara phula’ which simply means “I am going to kill you and throw you into the stream.” The family says they reported the matter to the police who reponded very sluggishly - until Mosesi went missing. “We were told there was not enough evidence,” said the furious and frustrated mother Ntshebo. “We have searched for our little angel everywhere, boyfriend, friends, schoolmates, relatives; there is no sign of Makgomo. She was a very humble girl. We knew every move she made and everywhere she went. These SMSs have torn my heart apart. I hope the stalker realises how much pain he has caused my family,” said the woman, who faithfully sticks to the belief that she will get her daughter back one day. Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mzikhulu Mthimkhulu says a missing person’s docket is being investigated and Police are doing everything to get to the bottom of this matter. “We urge the community to please assist us in any way that helps us trace the missing girl,” says Mthimkhulu.

Arson suspect hands himself over SASOLBURG. - Pule Nkomo (30) handed himself over to Police seven weeks after the burning down of Karabo FM. The suspect briefly appeared in the Sasolburg Magistrates Court on November 1. The matter has been postponed for further investigation and for official bail application till November 7. According to a Sunday newspaper, Nkomo mentioned that the Executive Mayor of Mangaung, Councillor Thabo Manyoni, Metsimaholo Mayor Councillor Brutus Mahlaku, and Reagan Boysen, Metsimaholo political advise, in the office of Council Whip Councillor Thandi Soetsang, are implicated in the
arson attack on the station. Nkomo apparently told Police that three people not known to him were promised R18 000 cash by Mahlaku, Manyoni and Booysen. He further told Police the other suspects are from Parys. Apparently after the ‘job’ Nkomo was paid R2 000, which resulted in him blowing the whistle to the media and Police. After revealing and straightening matters, Nkomo went further on October 28 by handing himself over to Police, accompanied by some members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). The court heard how, on September 8, the four suspects had entered the station with petrol, holding the security and radio presenter to
ransom before tying them up. The suspects went on to pour petrol all over the floor and the equipment systems before they set them alight. Nkomo told Police that they were tasked by an unknown mastermind living in Sasolburg. The court also heard that one of the suspects had, during the incident, sustained injuries to his legs due to the fire. He was later rushed to the Inkanyezi Private Clinic. Police went to the clinic in search of any person treated for burns. It was discovered that this burn victim had used a false address. The court advised the suspect to either seek his own legal representative or accept legal aid so that the case could proceed. Due to the serious nature

Cargo Robots became the violent end of scavengers recently when a the driver of a truck loaded with scrap lost control and it capsized.
BOIPATONG. – A truck driver survived serious injuries after narrowly escaping death. This was when he lost control and his truck capsized in the middle of the road recently. A traffic jam occurred at the Cargo Robots on the crossing of Frikkie Meyer Blvd and Houtkop Road. It is alleged the truck capsized due to scavengers who overtook the truck and offloaded their scrap. While the truckdriver’s concentration was on the scavengers, the truck continued on its way and drifted around the robots, leading to it capsizing. “Police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving. There are no arrests yet. The driver was rushed to Sebokeng Hospital after sustaining injuries,” says Police spokesperson Constable Thembeka Koago. Motorists feel that too little is done about the scavengers. This is not the first incident and will not be the last as long as these ‘boys’ are still roaming the streets while Police do nothing about it. “Some have died while doing this, but they still continue. If death doesn’t scare them, then Police are nothing,” says one of the bystanders.

O ne ggrave, rave, ttwo wo ffamilies, amilies, One tthree hree ccorpses orpses Lazarus Dithagiso
SHARPEVILLE.– It’s definitely weird to have three corpses belonging to two different families buried in one grave. The family of the late Setaba Pitso and Nomsa Motsitsi are at loggerheads over the rightful owner of the grave that at the moment homes three bodies at Evaton Cemetery. Lony Xosho (33) is spitting fire, accusing Holy City Undertakers and or Emfuleni Local Municipality’s (ELM’s) Parks and Cemeteries Department for allegedly giving permission to the Motsitsi family to bury two bodies in her father’s grave without consent. Xosho’s family and relatives wanted to erect a tombstone to give their deceased father the dignity he deserved. Xosho and her grandmother Mamotsepe Pitso visited the Lekoa Cemetery offices to formally disclose their intention to erect a tombstone. Much to their surprise, the officer gave them a statement to confirm the number of the grave. The family discovered that three bodies had been buried in one grave. The family said they hold cemetery officials, ELM and Holy City Undertakers accountable.
According to a document in the hands of Sedibeng Ster, the burial order shows that an amount of R216 was paid to bury Nomsa Motsitsi at Evaton on December 22 of 2000. This has raised eyebrows and is of great concern to Xosho and family. It was later discovered that a third body had been buried in the same grave to bring the total to three. According to the death certificate and burial order, the late Pitso was buried on November 23 of 2000. Three weeks later Nomsa Motsitsi was buried. A Police forensic expert who asked not to be named said that if he had to apply for a court order to exhume the bodies it will amount to R25 000 and that the exhumation has to be conducted in full view of the Department of Health officials. Apparently the local municipality will have to bite the bullet and pay the cost. Lindi Ndlovu, a director of Holy City Undertakers, refuses to take the blame and tells Sedibeng Ster that they took over the business from their late father around 2007. The official in charge of the cemetery said they are not allowed to talk to the media.
Mamotsepe Pitso visits her brother, Setaba Pitso’s grave which has another two bodies buried on top of him at the Evaton Cemetery.

SEBOKENG. – The ArcelorMittal Foundation officially handed over the new topof-the-range clinic they had built as part of their Social Responsibility to Health MEC Hope Papo. Papo was accompanied by Emfuleni Local Municipality Health MMC Sello Pitso and Sebokeng Hospital CEO Dr Zolela Ngcwabe on Friday at Sebokeng Hospital. The clinic will serve the community and people who live with HIV and Aids, and all other chronic diseases. “If you are positive, live positive and start to live a healthy lifestyle, and also - if you are negative remain negative and also live a healthy lifestyle.” These were the words of the MEC Papo during his keynote address at Reamohetse Wellness Centre’s official opening. Papo insisted that people should start watching their health and living positively. He says life is about choices and the same choices are the result of what we are presently experiencing. “Chronic diseases are not curable, but treatable. As a society of different kinds of people with different thinking, it is highly important to make choices that will leave a legacy to the ones who come after us. I would like to thank ArcelorMittal for their kindness in identifying a need. As this
centre is for the people, it is their responsibility to make use of services rendered and take care of it,” he said before he left the podium
open to Hospital CEO Dr Ngcwabe. Ngcwabe was spoverjoyed that finally the five-year initiative had been realised.

BOIPATONG. – Life has turned ugly these days. Anything and everything is a ‘fair-game’ target of crime. Boipatong Police are presently investigating a case of armed robbery after the arrest of three suspects on Monday. The arrests arose from an unusual crime when three armed suspects robbed a Ram Couriers truck apparently delivering medicine. It is alleged that the driver stopped at Bafokeng Street when he was approached by an unknown man for a job. While he was listening to the man, the ‘surprise’ unleashed itself. “Two unknown men came along and pointed guns at the truck driver. The victim was obliged to surrender. They took his cell phone and medication. They further locked the driver in the back of the truck and fled the scene on foot,” says Police spokesperson Constable Thembeka Koago. According to Police, preliminary investigation values the items at approximately R 10 000. . While they were busy investigating Police got a tip-off which led to the arrest of the three suspects. They are facing charges of armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms and attempted murder. a1sHbZa

A school’s main purpose is education pregnant, both teachers and pupils subjecting other learners to the worst of racism and pupils stabbing and beating their teacher, need I say more? A school is a place where students go to learn. Each student should have the opportunity to develop the skills of problem solving in a non-violent manner. Educators should have in mind the students’ culture. Instead of labelling them as troublemakers, give them a chance to learn how to cope, and deal with problems by teaching them the steps to take. There has to be some consistent ways
South African schools are a time bomb waiting to explode and if nothing continues to be done in years to come this is where baby-making machines, serial killers, rapists and murderers will be bred. This ending year has been a shame for South African schools, what with children killing each other inside the school yard, teachers making pupils as young as 12
of solving these problems. Not with the punishment approaches that some schools takes, but by solving practices and the implementation of respect, fairness, and discipline. Lack of education is one of the main causes of school violence. If young people aren’t taught from an early age about the consequences and wrongs of violence, there’s a high chance they’ll indulge in it later. Education must occur in the home, alongside parents, and in the classroom. In the end schools should have educated professionals who can deal with these sorts of issues. A person who can turn the students’ lives around, change violence in
schools to peace. A schools main purpose is education. Teaching helps prevent the augmentation of violence. By teaching students and teachers how to resolve conflicts in a healthy way, as well as how to develop their own skills of confidence, acceptatnce of diversity, justice, and peace. Lastly the only way to avoid violence is to regularly, and constantly address conflicts before they become a serious problem. An advice that South African authorities should heed before it is too late. Lerato...

Mushrooming for change in urban areas?
Lazarus Dithagiso
MEYERTON. - Across the Sedibeng District, people are drawn from rural areas to towns and cities like moths to a flame where - usually - they get their wings burnt. Their search is for a better life and education for their children. Instead, they end up trapped in poverty after many fail to realise their dream to make changes. Albert Ngobeni of the Silahliwe Informal Settlement near Sicelo Section said he came from a rural area to change his life. It was before the issue of a Vaal Metro had tripped from the lips of politicians. Ngobeni said he was excited that his children were now closer to education. “But the future holds nothing - except that the overpopulation of informal settlements is on the increase,” he said. Squatter camps are mushrooming daily. The increase of relocation is at Silahliwe, Boiketlong, Joko Tea, Timalebone, Lengweleng, to mention but few. “We are struggling to adapt to the fast life, to development and change. It is becoming increasingly clear that everyone wants to have access to shops, work, schools, libraries, churches, hospitals and clinics. The only thing the government can do for rural smallholdings is bring school buses, mobile clinics and Home Affairs mobile trucks.”

Baluzile Sithole, mother of four, says they are living in an area that is not conducive to human settlement. “There’s no electricity. We still use bucket toilets. We welcome a Metro with both hands but the question remains: are we going to benefit?” She says, ‘I buy and sell spinach for a living. Do we have to wait until 2016 for the Demarcation Board to officially change Sedibeng into the Vaal Metro Municipality?” Sithole says: ‘That’s too far away. We cannot wait any longer for a Metro. We want to be part of the community, paying for “masakhane” and electricity.”
SEBOKENG. - The regional chairperson of the Democratic Alliance (DA) Daddy Mollo, in a public meeting held at Westside Park, stated that it was unfair for anyone to have to pay R5 to charge their phone. This follows complaints from residents who have lived in this area for years without electricity connections. According to the residents, their problem of lack of electricity was turned into a business by people with electricity, who charged them R5 to charge their cell phones.“Having electricity is not a luxury but a necessity, especially in these times. We cannot expect children to study with candles as this can pose many dangers to them. They need electricity in order to study comfortably and pass,” says Mollo. The DA in their quest to help the community, donated more than 40 solar lights to families that were in distress about the electricity issue. Residents were delighted to see that they would be getting some light for a change following years of being without electricity. Although community members were delighted by

the donation, it seemed that many were still frustrated about voting. The community voiced concerns regarding unemployment, slow delivery of services and education. Mollo reassured the community that the DA’s employment plan would ensure that more youths would get jobs.

VEREENIGING.- The Kanana Mental Health Care Centre together with Lapeng Home for the Aged Care Centre held an awareness day celebration in Vereeniging on Friday morning. The theme of the day was ‘Mental Health and the Elderly and they focused mainly on dementia. Speaker after speaker mentioned that because the elderly are affected by the sickness it should not be seen as a taboo but something that the community needs to understand and be aware of. Dementia is a chronic or persistent disorder caused
by brain disease or injury. It is marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning. Lydia Ngubane, the director of Lapeng Home for the Aged Care Centre says, “We would like to make sure that everyone receives the message because when our elderly talk to themselves, forget people’s names and places it does not mean that they are witches. It is simply a condition that they are suffering from.” Following the formal proceedings, the day was enjoyed with song, food and music, much to the excitement of both those in attendance and the aged.

Kedibone on another level Moleboheng Chaha
SEBOKENG. - Local girl Kedibone Segonote (20) spent six months in Dresden, Germany, earlier this year. Her great experience came as part of the Europawarts (Towards Europe) Programme, an initiative between loveLife - South Africa’s largest youth leadership, life skills and sexuality awareness programme - and German International Cooperation (GIZ). It was through Conny Jager, loveLife’s national adviser for Field Support and Quality Assurance, that the Europawarts initiative came about. As the project’s Programme Manager, Conny placed an advert in the local Dresden newspaper calling for residents to host the Europawarts participants. On seeing the ad in the newspaper, the Kuehns wasted no time in applying. “We chose to become a host family to Kedibone as my wife Nicole was born in South Africa,” explains Frank Kuehn. “She has a connection to South Africa and often talks about how beautiful it is, so we felt it would be great to host Kedibone.” Segonote, who is an alumni loveLife ground-breaker, says, “I loved having the opportunity to go to Germany and experience a whole new country and culture. I also learnt to survive on my own without my family and friends.” Thandi Mcloy of loveLife says, “Kedibone was one of four alumni ground

Safety tips for Mogogodi Primary School pupils Mduduzi Mathebula
SEBOKENG. – Mogogodi Primary School recently had a surprise visit from Eskom. The objective was to teach pupils about the dangers of the misuse of electricity. School Principal Sophie Molefe was very pleased by the visit. “It is vital for the little ones to know the advantages of having electricity, but also the dangers of using illegal electricity. Children have taught themselves many things today, and unfortunately this includes tampering with live wires,” said Mole-
Eric Machaya and one of the pupils display the danger of using unauthorised electricity. Photo:Mduduzi Mathebula.
OMO does it for Lesedi pupils SEBOKENG.- The Lesedi la Thuto Primary School recently received sports kits and a science portalab from Omo and Spar. The OMO Schools’ Challenge is now in its 7th year, helping learners unleash their full potential through spending time outdoors and getting much-deserved physical activity. Schools around South Africa have put their weight behind this year’s consumer campaign that will reward learners with sports equipment and science labs. The nationwide consumer competition will result in the entire population at 75 South African schools receiving brand new sports kits in 2013, plus a Science Portalab per school.OMO Community projects are aimed at helping children achieve their full potential. When children participate in activities such as sport they learn important life skills
which are invaluable to them as they grow up. Caroline Clayton, spokesperson for OMO says that ‘OMO has been actively involved in the OMO Schools Challenge for the past 7 years, the results of which have impacted children all over South Africa. “We believe our efforts have definitely contributed to improving children’s performance at school and consequently provided them with opportunities to achieve their full potential. Clayton goes on to say, ‘OMO, one of South Africa’s best loved brands, is celebrating its 50th birthday this year, and part of this celebration is to ensure that the brand continues to play a vital role in communities around South Africa to assist children in achieving their full potential, so that they can help build a brighter future for all in South Africa.

What a success! What a succesful event! It was attended by an audience of over a hundred, not to mention performing groups. Its focus was making friends with the police, reporting any suspicious criminals, detecting activities like abuse, addressing the inexplicable dropping of assault charges after lengthy Police investigation, and also addressing the issue of crime in Vaaloewer Smallholding. fe. Eskom delegate Eric Machaya was on point when teaching pupils about electricity. “It is important for children to know not to boil water or use any electrical appliance without guidance from parents. Statistics show that children between the ages of 5 and ten are often victims of electrical misfortunes. We are in a position to render safety services to our children,” said Machaya. Children were further asked questions to establish whether they had indeed acquired the knowledge.

Local drug action committee launches
Ginny Sindane
SEBOKENG.- Parents at Zone 12 Sebokeng came out in numbers recently to support a local drug action committee that aids in the fight against drug abuse and crime. The event was held at the Holy Church in Bhekuzulu Street. It was the official launch of the local drug action committee. They dissuaded drug users from using drugs and taught them how to survive and act in a way that is socially acceptable, especially in Zone 12, which was the focus area. “We used to hunt and beat the nyaope users when we found them, but as parents we realised that taking the law into our own hands would result in our own imprisonment. We then decided to form this organisation,” said the local drug action committee chairperson, Aubet Msimanga. The launch was filled with different performances which included poems, drama, music and motivational speakers. The guests who attended amongst others were Captain Moremi from SAPS, Thoko Mkandawire, Councillor of Ward 33, Petra Oberholzer from the Department of Social Development, Mzwakhe Msibi from Toughest Young Minds (TYM), Thandi Mthimkhulu from Tswelopele Home Based Care, Manager of ADT Watch Security Company, Phumlani Nyirenda, Lindiwe Ngiela and Ntando Mponeng from Progressive Youth. The organisation was established in June this year by concerned parents in Ward 36 and the rest of the community is responding positively. What makes this organisation different is the fact that it takes time to speak with the nyaope users and try to understand what is the cause or reason behind their smoking. “We meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm until 7pm at Moloantoa BP garage in Zone12 Ext ward 36 and everyone is welcome to join our meetings. There are 66 wards in the Vaal area and the plan is to establish a local drug action committee in each and every ward. This is the first one and we are proud to say that there has been an improvement since this organisation started,” the members say.

form of ID will also be accepted – namely the brand new smartcard ID being launched by the Department of Home Affairs in July and being piloted among special groups of South Africans including the elderly. “Accommodating the new smartcard IDs has not been difficult,” explained Chief Electoral Officer Mosotho Moepya. “It contains a bar-code with the holder’s ID number just like the ID book. So we scan the smartcard with the zip-zip just like we would an ID book.” The only change has been in finding a way to provide the person with their proof of registration. “Obviously there is no place on the smartcard ID to stick the bar-code sticker with the person’s registration details. So we will be sticking this on a printout which the person can take with them and keep in a safe place,” Moepya explained. South Africa’s 22 263 voting stations will be open from 8am to 5pm on Saturday 9 November and Sunday 10 November for new registrations, changes to registrations (those who have moved voting districts since the last election) and for voters who would like to verify their details. The IEC is hoping to register over twomillion new voters ahead of the national and provincial elections scheduled to take place in the first second quarter of 2014, bringing the number of registered voters to 25 million or 80% of eligible voters.
The Emfuleni Local Municipality is proud to announce its support and participation in the International Fraud Awareness Week which will be taking place from 03 - 09 November 2013 as part of the Ethics, Anti-fraud and Anti-corruption Awareness Month. The campaign will be taking place under the theme “Creating a Culture that is intolerant to fraud and corruption thus preserving the rights and dignity of our Communities”. As one of the official supporters, the Municipality will be promoting anti-fraud awareness and education. According to a study conducted by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), organizations around the world loose an estimated five percent of their annual revenues to fraud. ACFE raises awareness of the need to proactively fight fraud and help safeguard businesses and investments from the growing fraud and corruption problem. During the Fraud Awareness Week, official supporters will engage in various activities, including: hosting fraud awareness training for employees and/or the community, conducting employee surveys to assess levels of fraud awareness within their organization, posting articles on company websites and in newsletters, and teaming up with local media to highlight the problem of fraud.
As Emfuleni Local Municipality, we will be playing a very critical role during this campaign by: • Encouraging a culture within the Municipality where all employees and other stakeholders continuously behave ethically in their dealings with, or on behalf of the Municipality; • Educating the municipality's employees, stakeholders and general public on fraud and corruption deterrence; • Improving accountability, efficiency and effective administration within the Municipality; • Improving the application of systems, policies, procedures and regulations; • Changing aspects of the Municipality that facilitate fraud and corruption and allowing it to go unnoticed or unreported; and • Encouraging all employees and other stakeholders to strive towards the prevention and detection of fraud impacting, or having the potential to impact the Municipality. We also want to urge community members to be vigilant against corruption and fraud by reporting any corrupt or fraud activity by our employees. We commit to take strong action against those individuals.
Community members can report any fraud and corruption activities to the National Anti-Corruption Hotline number 0800 701 701 www.emfuleni.gov.za

SEDIBENG.- Three forms of ID are acceptable for voter registration this weekend. Election officials will accept three forms of official identification to register and vote in next year’s national and provincial elections: a green bar-coded ID book, a valid Temporary Identity Certificate (TIC) and the new smartcard ID. In terms of legislation, aspirant voters must produce a valid South African identity document when registering to vote and when voting. For most people this means the traditional green bar-coded ID book or a valid Temporary Identity Certificate (TIC) issued by the Department of Home Affairs to those who have lost or not yet received their ID book. These forms of ID will continue to be accepted by the IEC including during the voter registration drive at voting stations around the country. When presented at a voting station, the bar-code in the ID book or on the TIC is scanned by the zip-zip machine which captures the person’s ID number and links it to the specific voting district where the person registers. The zip-zip machine then prints a bar-code sticker confirming the date, time and voting district where the person registered which is stuck into the person’s ID book or onto their TIC as proof of registration. But this year, for the first time ever, a third

SHOOTING FROM THE HIP With Zacharia Nale
Some development coaches have asked Shooting From The Hip to retract last week’s comment. It was headlined “They are either deaf, blind or stupid”. These development coaches are against the fact that Shooting From The Hip objects to the idea of the Safa League playing on hardsurface soccer grounds, specifically on Vaal Killers soccer grounds. Shooting From The Hip stands by this fact – playing Safa League in those hard conditions is not part of development. To make things worse, one development coach tells Shooting From The Hip that some former soccer players used to play in the same conditions. But he forgets one thing: we can’t compare today’s situation with the situation some of us used to play in. For
Former soccer greats will be in action SEDIBENG. - Sedibeng Regional Masters Football Association is the host of this year’s Southern Africa Masters Soccer Tournament scheduled to take place in Carltonville on November 30. This was announced by the association publicist Martin Mpholo. The tournament will see the masters come from as far as Lesotho, Botswana, Swaziland and South Africa to compete among themselves in this annual tournament. Mpholo urges all soccer fans to come and watch as former greats showcase the skill and talent that made them popular during their heyday. He says that some former soccer greats who will participate in this tournament include Peter Khoabane, Pollen “Trompies” Ndlanya, Steve “Chippa” Lekoelea, Geelbooi “Goma” Masango, Phiri Tsotetsi and Jabu “Scara” Mnguni, to mention but few. The tournament will bring the soccer stars of yesteryear together to go down Memory Lane when football was viewed as a form of entertainment before it became business. These were the players who made South African football what it is today. “The tournament will show that we still care about these former soccer greats because they are the reason our football is on the world map today. They have played their part in South African football and they need our recognition. This is the only way to thank them - by bringing them together and showing today’s generation how our football used to be played,” he concluded.

No retreat no surrender! example, when I was a soccer player playing for Evaton Ocean and Continental FC, we always played on hard-surface soccer fields. When it was time for us to play on turf or on a soccer pitch, it was very difficult because we were not used to playing there. We got tired long before the first half and we looked so silly that our opponents had a fun-filled day toying around with us. Our opponents expose us big-time because they are used to playing in those conditions. Shooting From The Hip’s argument is based on the fact that we should not bring our past experience into things because football has changed a lot. How can we expect these youngsters to play on those hard soccerfields while Safa competitions or tournaments are played at the stadium where the turf is something to marvel at. This is the truth whether our development coaches like it or not. These boys deserve to play on better football pitches - not on Vaal Killers soccer grounds. Yes, Vaal Kil-
lers! Shooting From The Hip understands that football started there, but that is no longer relevant to these up-and-coming youngsters. Yours Truly still has scars from playing on these hard-surface grounds. I used to feel pain after games because of the hard grounds we used to play on when I was a little boy. As much as I enjoyed my soccer career there, that doesn’t mean these boys should still play there. I refuse! The fact of the matter is that Shooting From The Hip has nothing to retract or apologise for. Facts are there for everyone to understand. Shooting From The Hip challenges all development coaches in this region to start thinking like real professionals. They must not bring their past experience into the mix because it is no longer relevant. Replace old knowledge with new knowledge. I have said this before! If Shooting From The Hip may ask: should the argument mean the regional squad was supposed to be selected on the Vaal Killers
soccer grounds if those coaches complain about travelling to Shakespeare Stadium? The way they complain if they are required to travel to Shakespeare Stadium is what one expects if they have to travel overseas. True! The truth of the matter is that those youngsters enjoy playing in the turf/ pitch because most of them are not used to such conditions. Coaches, let’s be realistic because it is no longer about you, but about the future of these youngsters. Vaal Killers grounds is and will never be a solution for our boys. Yes, in the past, but not now! Football has changed and so development coaches should change the way they see and do things. To my friend Mondli Nkosi, I will never encourage any youngsters to play at Evaton Ocean Stars, Vaal Killers or Sharpeville A grounds. Never!

BOIPATONG. - The Birds FC will now represent Sedibeng in the Provincial Nedbank Cup. This is after they beat United Scientist 1-0 in the regional final played at the Shakespeare Stadium on Saturday. This was confirmed by Safa Sedibeng League coordinator Beauty Molise, who confirms that the The Birds FC will represent Sedibeng in the provincial Nedbank Cup. This is the team that at one stage was challenging for the SAB League Championship but the wheels came off in mid-season. However, this season Philip Ndlovu believes that they are ready to conquer the SAFA Sedibeng SAB League. As things stand, Safa Sedibeng SAB League kicks offs this weekend at various venues in this region. Ndlovu says he is not fazed by the Netball Cup Provincial play-offs taking place. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sports, Ndlovu says this season they mean business and they have assembled a strong team to compete among the best. He says this is the best way to start the season. “I know last season there was great expectation for The Birds to win the league, but lot of things happened, especially towards the end of the season. We won’t make the same mistake this season as we will be more cautious. The attitude of the players has changed and they realise how important it is to win the league this season. There is lot of commitment from them and one can see that they want this desperately,” he concludes.

VANDERBIJLPARK.Gabon Student Association Football Club is going places. The club consists of students from Gabon who play football against other communities in the Vaal. The main aim of the team is to help the Gabon students to ease their adaption and integration into this country. The team ideology went further as they decided to participate in competitions and open the club to non-Gabonese, hence the presence of Congolese, Turkish, Portuguese, and South African players in the group. The club registed for the new Vaal Inter-League Championship and finished in second position behind Zamalek of DRC. The other teams that participated in this league include Cameroon, Joe Boss FC, Leopards and Team SA AC. The President and Coach of the team Yamonge Kenneth always strives for the development of youngsters through sport. He was part of the technical team of the now-defunct FC Riverside and attended coaching courses with the PSV Eindoven coaching clinics. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Kenneth says they intend to accommodate more teams in the new season. He also thanks the Vaal people for the relationship they built through football in this region. “We as Gabon Students want to thank theVaal people for accepting and welcoming us in this country. Vaal is a special place to us and we will never forget the kindness we receive always,” he concludes.
