Family tries to conceal childrape Lazarus Dithagiso
SEDIBENG. - Children are not even safe from their own relatives these days. Two suspects, a 43-year-old man and his 52year-old girlfriend, appeared briefly in the Sebokeng Magistrates Court charged with rape and defeating the ends of justice respectively. According to the 43-yearold mother of ‘Modiehi’ (9) - not her real name - they had attended a family gathering at the suspect’s house in Orange Farms on New Year’s Day when she decided to leave ‘Modiehi’ in the care of her sister with an agreement that the young girl will come home the following day. The mother became worried when the child did not turn up the next day. “I went to my sister’s place to find out what was happening, but she would not let me see the child as she kept on saying that the child was sleeping as she was not feeling well,” the mother says. The mother insisted on seeing the child and made the gruesome discovery that the child was bleeding and no one would give a valid explanation as to what was happening. “My sister then gave me R300 to take the child
to the doctor. The child had serious cuts on her private parts and was referred to the hospital where she received stitches,” explains the mother. Nurses then advised the mother to open a case of abuse with the police. Apparently, every time the mother asked her sister what had happened to her child the sister kept shouting that they had done nothing wrong. Investigations by the Family Violence Child Protection Unit led to the arrest of the two suspects. Police say that the 43-year-old suspect then confessed to raping the child. The child told her mother that the man took her to an open field in Small Farm, Evaton where he put her on the ground with his hand over her mouth where after he undressed and raped her. After the ordeal, he threatened her, warning her not to tell anyone. The sister was charged with defeating the ends of justice. The pair briefly appeared in court last Tuesday and the case was postponed for further investigation. They were both denied bail.

SHARPEVILLE. – A pensioner (72) from Tshepiso Phase 5 was found murdered in his bedroom four days into the New Year. The discovery was made by a neighbour who was worried because no-one had seen the pensioner for a couple of days. Police were deployed to the scene and on their arrival they saw that the front door was damaged and that the old man had severe injuries to his head and hands. According to preliminary police investigations the motive for the murder is unknown and more investigations need to be done. Police spokesperson Constable Thembeka Koago says a murder case has been opened for investigation. “We urge the community to assist in the investigations. At the moment there are no leads. Gunfire and attempt to seize district mayor Lazarus Dithagiso
RUST-TER-VAAL. - It is not clear who opened fire when the volatile community blocked the way, refusing to allow Sedibeng District Executive Mayor Councillor Simon Mahole Mofokeng from leaving the Rustter-Vaal community hall recently. Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda said the hand of a woman aged about 30 was wounded. This happened when the community wanted to hold the mayor hostage on January 8. The victim was admitted and later released
after being seen by a doctor at the Kopanong Hospital. Police said it is too early to identify the suspect involved in the shooting. The mayor was invited to address the community after a two-day protest against poor service delivery and alleged nepotism. The community laid dire nepotism complaints against the Emfuleni Local Municipality, ELM. “People in Rust-ter-Vaal are being neglected or given less attention when it comes to employment,” said one of the community leaders. Police responded quickly to bring the situation under control. “Two cases of public violence have been opened by the police,” said Captain Funda. He said no arrests have been made and the police have confiscated all firearms from the people on the scene for ballistic testing.
Drug lab found in Meyerton Mduduzi Mathebula
MEYERTON.- The Meyerton suburb of Golden Park was raided by the Hawks last Tuesday following information received about a drug laboratory in the area. A 48-year-old woman faced the Vereeniging Magistrates Court after she was arrested for drug manufacturing. The suspect lives in one of the two houses that were raided and where the ‘cooking’ of drugs were conducted. The Hawks and the K9 left no stone unturned on Tuesday during the raiding of the hou-
se of the suspect. The K9 unit (dog unit) came in handy during the investigation. The laboratory is said to be situated in one of the four garages of one of the houses. Police found materials that can be used to produce drugs. Captain Fikile Funda, the Meyerton Police spokesperson says police are investigating a case of drug manufacturing and the suspect was arrested instantly on the scene for possession. “She has already appeared in court,” says Funda.
Rape suspects wanted
SEDIBENG.- The SAPS FCS Unit (Family Child Violence and Sexual Offences Unit) and the Vanderbijlpark SAPS are urgently searching for two rape suspects after a victim (25) suffered a terrible ordeal on the December 15 last year at about 20:00 in an open field in Petter Street, CW5, Vanderbijlpark. It is alleged that the female victim was on her way home and walked through an open field between houses in the street. A white bakkie with two unknown male suspects stopped near her and the suspects grabbed and overpowered her. The one suspect held her to the ground whilst the other suspect commenced to rape her. Both suspects were very violent during the incident and the victim sustained injuries. Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kinnie Steyn says, “We are appealing to the public to be on the lookout for these suspects and to be alert. The bakkie was white in colour with a canopy. The registration number of the bakkie ends with ...799 GP and the rear light on the right side is damaged.” The one suspect was allegedly also seen by the victim on December 11 driving a minibus taxi. The victim was on her way home from work and the suspect allegedly stopped next to her and
made remarks. The victim ignored him and walked into a nearby yard. Steyn says that the minibus taxi had a “I love Jesus” sticker on the front side and a yellow border on all sides of the vehicle. This suspect is of African descent and is in his early thirties with unusually big eyes. He is of large build and a bit overweight. He has short hair but in his neck 10cm of the hair is braided in dreadlocks. The suspect wore a golden ring with a “U” sign on it and on top of the “U” there is a dollar ($) sign. The victim also noticed that he has a lot of beauty spots in his lower neck. The second suspect is of white descent and in his early20’s. He is about 1,95 to two metres tall and of small built. This suspect has a razor wire tattoo on the upper part of one of his arms and tattoos between all his finger knuckles. He wore denims with a belt buckle shaped like a cannabis (dagga) leaf. A very prominent feature of this suspect is that he has a large mark or scar stretching from his eye to his chin bone. Anyone with information about these suspects is urgently requested to contact the investigating officer in the case, Detective Warrant Officer Johan Reichert, on 082 211 6963.

Friend’s mother KO’s 10yearold Mduduzi Mathebula
EVATON. - Police are investigating the assault of a 10-year-old boy from Evaton after he was allegedly assaulted by his friend’s mother. Samkele Hlengwa was stunned when his friend’s mother dragged him metres from his home to her house and punched him in the face. Apparently Hlengwa was playing with his friend of the same age when the two had a minor fight and Hlengwa’s friend ran home screaming to his mother. The angry mother took it upon herself to
fight back for her child. She went to Hlengwa’s house and dragged him all the way to her house. It is alleged that an uncle held Hlengwa while the friend’s mother unleashed a volley of punches on the helpless 10-yearold, who was left bruised, with a swollen eye. The victimised and bruised Hlengwa ran home to alert his parents about the incident. Lindiwe Hlengwa, the victim’s mother, and Fakazile Hlengwa (aunt) marched to the friend’s house and a verbal war commenced. Lindiwe says the woman is heartless. “She cannot beat my child like this and claim he deserved it. She also told us we can bring all sorts of law enforcements and nothing will be done to her as her husband is a police officer,” said the devastated mother. Fakazile (aunt) says she cannot understand why this happened. “Children are children and they fight and reconcile. “There was no reason for her to beat my child like that. We have opened a case of assault against the woman and we are going to pursue this case until justice takes its course,” says Fakazile. At the time of going to print the friend’s mother was out of reach and Police confirmed that a case of assault has been opened and is being investigated. “We are investigating an assault case,” says Police spokesperson Constable Tshifiwa Mitileni.

Police arrest notorious car thief

ORANGE FARMS.- A notorious and wanted motor vehicle thief was arrested on Monday afternoon in Orange Farms by members of the Vanderbijlpark SAPS Tracing Team. The arrest followed shortly after a Nissan 1400 bakkie was stolen in President Kruger street, Vanderbijlpark. It is alleged that the complainant (27) parked his white Nissan 1400 bakkie at about 13:15 in President Kruger street and went to do business. Upon his return he found that the bakkie was stolen and reported the matter at the Vanderbijlpark SAPS. Members of the Vanderbijlpark SAPS Tracing Team immediately commenced to search for the stolen vehicle. Information led them to the vicinity of Orange Farms where they spotted the stolen bakkie with two male suspects inside. The members pursued the suspects when a green Nissan Sentra with three male suspects suddenly attempted to block the road in order to prevent the members from any
further pursuit. Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kinnie Steyn says, “The determined SAPS members refused to be detoured and continued to pursue the stolen bakkie. During the pursuit the driver of the stolen bakkie suddenly stopped and ran to the Nissan Sentra. The suspects fled from the scene in the Nissan Sentra, leaving a passenger, also their accomplice, behind. “To their surprise the members found that the suspect (49) is a high profile wanted motor vehicle thief with several pending cases against him. We are also looking into the possibility that he might be linked to more of these cases in Vanderbijlpark. “The suspect was arrested and detained at the Orange Farms SAPS. The Nissan 1400 bakkie was retrieved and will be returned to the lawful owner soon. With this arrest we want to send out a stern warning to motor vehicle thieves to expect to meet the full force of the law in 2014.” .

My son used to be an addict

SEBOKENG. - A distressed Zone 10, Sebokeng mother has urged the community to fight against the root of all evil, which she believes are people that sell ‘nyaope’ from their homes. Nongazi Mkhaliphi says that she used to live in fear back when her son *Thabang (not his real name) was addicted to nyaope. “I was once attacked by a group of people who told me that my son had broken into a house and stolen valuables, which he would sell to get nyaope. They threatened to burn down my house. I was scared for my life. Even when my son was in rehabilitation people still accused him of having done things he had not done.” Thabang says “I started using nyaope in 2008. At first I did it just to impress my friends but it eventually turned into a serious problem.” Mkhaliphi says that sending her son to a rehabilitation center in Johannesburg was the best solution for the tough period she and her husband experienced when her son was still an addict. “I condemn the way society treats kids that are addicted to nyaope. Instead of helping them, we are the ones that kill them.” Mkhali-
phi says, referring to occasions when mob justice resulted in the death of nyaope-smokers. “In this new year, I urge communities to stop killing these kids but, instead, to stand up and fight those who sell the drug to our kids. They live in our communities, we know who they are but we just watch them ruin the lives of our children.” Mkhaliphi now aims to help parents who have children that are nyaope addicts to send them to rehabilitation centres. “After seeing the changes my son went through after he was rehabilitated, I have now commited myself to helping parents who are going through what I went through. “Through counselling and support, we can beat this disease”. Parents who want to reach Mkhaliphi for advice or any type of assistance can contact her on 0735299388

Nangalembe victim’s tombstone destroyed

EVATON. – Emotion and tears shook the Motlodisi family when they discovered their relatives’ tombstone was destroyed among numerous memorial tombstones. Edward Motlodisi was among those that were murdered during Chris Nangalembe‘s night vigil on January 12 of 1991. Unfortunately municipal workers preparing for the me-
morial day, on Sunday found the tombstone destroyed. However, the event proceeded as normal though about two-and-a-half hours late. Standing in for the Sedibeng District Municipality mayor Simon Mofokeng, Makhomo Raikane said this day marked 23 years of history that needed to be told to the youth. “Chris Nangalembe was an affiliate of the youth league during his days. We have to ho-
nour and celebrate those who died on January 12 of 1991.They were soldiers who died fighting,” says Raikane. Raikane opened the floor for numerous religious groups to display
their support to the families. Archbishop Ndzwana Mali said that these young lions needed to be celebrated as they had played their role in society.
Edward Motlodisi’s tombstone was destro ryed by unkown people. The family grieved over this action during the Nangalembe commemorationon Sunday.

9R_Na\ @R_R_\ Rape is rape and it can never be justified by making it out to be something else. What gets on my nerves is the increase of rape against children these days, particularly by those close to them. Children are raped by their grandfathers, uncles and stepfathers these days. Amongst the crimes committed against a person, young or old, rape is one that leaves you the most violated. In the years that I have been a journalist I have extensively written on the matter and its victims. In those years I have come to realise that the victim is often left with the feeling that a part of them has been torn away, they are
5
Just say no to rape!
left helpless. Because the feeling is to be with them forever, they feel that the crime is continuously happening. To use another person’s body and ignore the soul that resides within is the most egregious crime that a person can commit against another. Why would any family member rape, kill or verbally, emotionally, mentally, physically, financially and psychologically abuse another family member? In fact why would a straight thinking person do any of these at all? We should come together to say that these horrendous attacks must stop. No woman or child should be beaten, raped, stabbed, shot or attacked in any manner anywhere in our country, whether by known or unknown attackers. We all know that there are also boys and men who have been victims of sexual assaults. This must also stop, just say No! My heart bleeds for the young girl that was
apparently raped by her grandfather who then threatened her that if she were to tell anyone harm would befall her, and shame should be upon the aunt who attempted to hide this crime. South Africa has the highest rape statistics in the world. Every 46 seconds a woman in South Africa is raped and this must stop. Often these women are murdered to prevent identification of the perpetrator. If the woman survives, this violation leaves emotional scars for the rest of her and her family’s lives. Catching the perpetrator after the fact, is not the answer as that woman’s life has been irrevocably changed for the worse by that stage. What is the South African government doing to proactively reduce these statistics and restore dignity to the women of South Africa, I ask? We must educate people, starting at school level, about respect for women, for
personal spaces and for the rule of law. We need to introspect, all of us, on how we contribute to the objectification of women, from the popular culture we consume to the way we bring up our children - from where it’s a slippery slope to a twisted and unjust understanding of sexual assault in legal terms. “Now, should we treat women as independent agents, responsible for themselves? Of course. But being responsible has nothing to do with being raped. Women don’t get raped because they were drinking or took drugs. Women do not get raped because they weren’t careful enough. Women get raped because someone raped them.” Jessica Valenti. Lerato...
Political parties sign agreement to form a formal collective

SEDIBENG.- The Collective for Democracy (known as the CD) has been formed from some of the opposition parties represented in the national parliament. Chairing the CD Mosiuoa Lekota of COPE said that for the last few elections the position of the ANC alliance had changed little, and the opposition parties had fought among themselves for support. “The political dynamics of South Africa have now
changed as the diversity of SA is now represented effectively in our Collective for Democracy. Millions of voters who never supported the ANC will be joined by millions of voters who are disillusioned with the corruption and ineptitude of the ruling party that seems to have no regard for the desires and needs of the voters. We now have an opportunity to bring voters the hope of actual political change instead of giving up on alternatives because the ru-
ling party has cynically manoeuvred its way into all sectors of our society, entrenching its power and corruption,” said Lekota. The political parties in the Collective for Democracy are ACDP, COPE, FF+, IFP and UCDP. Other opposition parties may wish to join the CD later and they will be welcome to do so as long as they can commit themselves to the joint areas of priority and align with the spirit of the collective,” said Lekota.

This follows the rejection students faced after attempting to get into various higher education institutions. A number of the 2013 matric students have failed to clinch the standards required by universities for acceptance, which leaves much to be desired. The issue of the 30% pass mark

1 SPECIAL PRAYER FIXED MY MARRIAGE & FINANCIAL PROBLES IN JUST ONE DAY
THANK YOU PRO PAHAD 078 499 2224 I’m Lerato from Orange Farm. I was financially struggling and my in-laws separated me from my husband. Our kids were sick & nothing was working out for us. I tried a lot of healers, pastors, etc with no answer. Until I heard about PROF PAHAD on the local radio. I visited him, he covered me with a white cloth, touched my head while making prayers. He gave me a magic stick that did wonders for me. I’m bounded with my husband & got a senior job promotion. We’re a happy family now. He showed me my enemies in magic water. A1SW67V

No more New Year resolutions
I’m not into New Year resolutions but I declare 2014 as the year for ‘MOVING FOOTBALL FORWARD’. I’m not going to make any New Year resolutions because if I do, I won’t stick to them. Shooting From The Hip has addressed all the problems in our local football and now it is high time we practice what we preach. No more talking! There is a hope that this year will be a much better year for our region taking into
consideration how we ended last year. This region ended the year on a high note with our junior regional teams doing us proud at the Safa Legacy Trust Junior Tournament. Shooting From The Hip is sick and tired of hearing the same question every year ‘Can this region produce a PSL team?’ To make things worse some are even considering the pursuit of Vodacom League status because they can’t go through the right channel, which is development. Shooting From The Hip always preaches this ‘stop buying status and put good structures in place if we are serious about producing a PSL team’. There is a need to put a solid structure in place rather than buying status. Don’t say Shooting From The Hip didn’t warn you: if
you buy status, chances are that you might be relegated at the end of the season and this will mean the end of your team. Shooting From The Hip attended a few soccer tournaments during the festive season and still hasn’t made sense as to why we don’t have a PSL team. The problem with this region is that we are focusing on the senior teams. Shooting From The Hip was overwhelmed by the talent displayed at the MCS and Pooe Festive Tournament especially the u/.13s and u/15s. The future of this region looks bright but the people who run football don’t see this. I will never forget the Pooe Festive Season Tournament final between Celta Vigo and Ikageng Dev FC in the u/15s category. Those

boys made many take note of their talent. They displayed exciting football and we still cry about not having a PSL team. How can I forget to mention MCS Tournament final between Celta Vigo and ‘Ama Cheese Boys’? Come on, somebody, this region is blessed with talent! The only thing needed is people with the ‘football’ brains to see this. Let's forget about buying status and develop these youngsters into men. We need to target a specific age group especially the u/15s - and start to build a strong team. Shooting From The Hip has no doubt that this region can have representatives in top flight football in 10 years. Welcome 2014 – MOVING FOOTBALL FORWARD!
Safa Sedibeng SAB league resumes with dissapointment Zacharia Nale
SEDIBENG.- The Safa Sedibeng SAB League teams resumed their league programme with disappointment. The three league games were called off due to poor organisation by the hosting teams. As the situation stands Hillside United FC, United Scientist FC and Sailor FC received 3 points on a silver platter when match officials called the games off because the soccer fields were not marked and the lines were invisible. The home side – Manyora - hosted Hillside United at the Zone 15 Stadium, Sebokeng Ajax hosted Sailor FC at the Shakespeare Stadium on Sunday while The Birds were home against United Scientist at the Boipatong Stadium that same day. Local soccer fans went home disappointed as they had been looking forward to watching what were supposed to be exciting matches. These were the first games of the year but disappointment was written all over the faces of those who went to those
above-mentioned venues. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sports, Safa Sedibeng League coordinator – Beauty Molise says it is the home team’s responsibility to make sure that the fields are marked. Meanwhile, VUT FC maintained their lead at the top of the SAB League after they beat FC Resa 1-0 in another league game played over the weekend at Dick Fourie Stadium. The ‘Students’ occupied first spot with 15 points from 6 outings. However, hot on their heels is Try Me Again FC with 12 points from the same number of the game. This Meyerton-based soccer team beat Ghetto Seven FC 5-3 in an entertaining league fixture. Third-placed Vaal Milano FC closed the gap at the top when they collected maximum points against Mighty Blues FC at the Bophelong Stadium on Sunday. Real Hearts suffered 3-1 in their own back yard when they lost 3 - 1 to the struggling Verona FC.

Dynamite comes in small packages ‘Bibo’ Zacharia Nale
SEBOKENG. - Sabelo “Bibo” Radebe (13) is following in the footsteps his hero, former Orlando Pirates legend Steve “Chippa” Lekoelea. Those who have witnessed the talent of this Celta Vigo FC midfielder are convinced that Radebe will be a big name in South African football. True! He mesmerised both soccer fans and opponents with his ‘Midas’ touches during the Pooe Festive Soccer Tournament. The boy left his markers sprawling on the dusty Behemen Rovers soccer grounds when his team Celta Vigo FC beat Ikageng Dev FC 3-1 in the final of the u/15s. He has already made a name for himself in local football. He has also played a key role in the Safa Sedibeng u/15 team during the Safa Legacy Trust Junior Tournament held at Edlorado Park Stadium in December. He helped Safa Sedibeng reach the final
after a long gap. Safa Sedibeng u/15 Coach Tebello Kheswa believes Radebe is one of the youngsters who will make us proud. “There is no doubt that the boy’s future looks bright and I’m convinced he will be a big star in South African football. I was fortunate to work with him at squad and he is such a humble boy. He is still young and he has a bright future ahead of him as far as football is concerned. The only thing he needs is someone who will take care of his talent. I know he is in good hands with Coach Themba Dlamini,” Kheswa says. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sports, Themba Dlamini says the boy has a ‘football brain’ more than anything else. He promises to take care of this little maestro and make his dream - to play football at the highest level - come true. Right: Sabelo ‘Bibo’ Radebe in action du ring the final. Photo: Zacharia Nale.

Education ‘challenges’ sport Zacharia Nale
VANDERBIJLPARK. - Sabelo Hlongwane (24) went to USA in 2009 to study Business Administration - little did he know that he would become an excellent soccer player. The mission of the Central Baptist College student is helping Sedibeng youth - especially promising soccer stars who excel in their studies, specifically Mathematics and English - to study in the USA and also play soccer there. In an exclusive interview with Sedibeng Ster, Sabelo, who is the son of Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Mayor Greta Hlongwane and former Sedibeng District Municipality Mayor Mlungisi Hlongwane - says his vision is to establish a sports academy in this region that will focus on helping Sedibeng soccer stars realise their dream - including education. He says education is the key and that youngsters must an get education to secure their future. Hlongwane intends to establish an academy and he has already approached potential partners to make this a success. Hlongwane is expected to complete his Business Administration Degree in six months. “I want to help local soccer players, especially the promising youngsters, but this is not only about soccer. It’s also about education because to qualify to study in Central Baptist College one must excel in Mathematics and English. I’m working tirelessly to make this dream become reality and I invite all potential stakeholders to come on board,” says Hlongwane. To date, Hlongwane has been the top goal scorer for his college soccer team for the past three years and was named Player of The Year for three consecutive years. His ambition is to play professional football here in South Africa. Hlongwane says he is touched to see so many uneducated soccer players in this region. He says most of them are talented but the only challenge is education. He ends by saying that his project will start with the u/13s and u/15s.
