EVATON.- The Evaton community members say that when Brigadier Ronnel Bischoff arrived as the new station commander four years ago everyone was expecting change, but all they have is a high crime rate and incompetency amongst staff members. On Wednesday morning last week the residents together with POPCRU,CPF under the organisation of SANCO marched to the Evaton Police station to hand over a memorandum of their grievances. The memorandum was received at Evaton Sports hub by Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko together with her Emfuleni Local Municipality counterpart, Veli Mcera. According to the angry mob Bischoff moved from the Jeppe Police station in Johannesburg to the Sebokeng Police station and then the Evaton Police station which were rated number one in the province at her arrival, only for her to lead them astray. The community members gave Mazibuko fourteen working days to investigate all the other allegations tabled against Bischoff in the memorandum which also demands Bischoff’s resignation from the top post together with her senior staff. Handing over the memorandum Ramoabi Motsepe asked for the provincial intervention and a building of a satellite Police station that will accomodate Palm Springs and Evaton. MEC Mazibuko said that a new Police station will be built soon as the government has allocated a site while also promising to give speedy and full attention to the demands of the demonstrators.

SHARPEVILLE.- Local girl Tidimalo Jasmine Sehlako (22) has against all odds garnered a spot in the 2014 Miss South Africa top 12. Subsequently putting Vaal up there with the best of the best. Sehlako recently completed her degree majoring in journalism and marketing at Monash Universit. She states that her strong belief in women empowerment is what drove her to enter the competition. “The idea of being Miss South Africa has always been there, but I never thought I was brave enough to do it. What inspires me to contest for this position is women empowerment. My mentor and close family friend Ofentse Mookang believed I could win Miss South Africa so she motivated me to enter.” “I have now taken the duty of empowering other women. The University from which I have just graduated is helping me go around to various schools in Gauteng and talk to young girls. I am also involved with an organisation called ‘Welfare to Work’. “ This Organisation helps young mothers not to be reliant on government grants by equipping them with employable skills. Therefore slowly but surely I am shaping the foundation of my cause,” Sehlako says. The beauties mother Dikeledi Sehlako says, “As a mother, the fact that my daughter has made it this far into such a huge competition makes me proud. Vaal should also be proud of her.” Dikeledi states, as she urges the vaal community to rally behind her daughter. For the past nine years Vanderbijlpark Works has implemented various emission improvement projects that resulted in an overall 83% reduction in particulate emission.

SEDIBENG.- Although Safa Sedibeng U/17 failed to qualify for the prestigious Future Champions Gauteng International Tournament, the regional team put up a brave performance when they finished second in their group at the Gauteng Cup held at Eldorado Park on Saturday. The region finished ahead of Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows whom they both beat in the group stages. They finished second to Sundward High School who topped the group with nine points while Safa Sedibeng accumulated six points. Safa Sedibeng U/17 Head Coach Themba Dlamini says, “ No one can fault these boys because they won two games and lost only one against Sundward High. It was so close, but these are some of the games that will improve our skills as a region. The boys must be very proud of themselves for beating big teams such as Chiefs and Moroka Swallows. Yes we are disappointed because we wanted to be part of the big stage but I’m not disappointed with our performance,” says Dlamini.
