Mandla makes Sedibeng R1 million rands richer

Mduduzi Mathebula

SEBOKENG. – Tuck-Shop owner and Lakeside Proper resident Mandla ‘Ndoooona’ Hlatswayo has made Sedibeng proud by being the winner of R1 million during the Big Brother Mzantsi Secrets Show. Hlatswayo clinched the big prize on Sunday evening when the South African audience voted him the winner of the 63 days reality show. The winner was drawn during the closing of the two hour finale that began at 18:00, exclusive to Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161). Capping off a memorable season of high stakes live 24/7 entertainment. Being the enterpreneur that he is, Hlatswayo showed class and dedication to become the winner. One of Hlatswayo’s local friends, Bafana Sikosana says, “I knew that he was going to be a great man one day and become famous but I never anticipated that it will be this soon. We always dreamt of being entrepreneurs and on a daily basis we acted upon our dreams. Mandla is destined for great things, I’m very happy that I have made an impact in his life and added value,” says Sikosana with an emotional voice. Even when he was nominated for eviction a countless times, Hlatswayo continued to be saved and remained in the house until Sunday when he was crowned winner after being in the house for the entire 63 days. The Vaal-born entrepreneur and father of a two year old son has

always been the strongest since the competition started. Filled with joy, he thanked his fans and everyone who has been voting for him throughout the entire show. His family was apparently taken by suprise when they saw him on the show as he had only told them that he was going to look for a job in Johannesburg and had said nothing about joining the Big Brother house. According to his aunt business has always been a part of Hlatswayo’s life. He used to sell vegetables house to house and was never afraid to face life. “He knew what he wanted in life and he started shaping his life for the better. He then grew from strength to strength until he opened a shop,” says the aunt. Hlatswayo holds a diploma in Business Management. Produced for Mzansi Magic by Endemol SA, Big Brother Mzansi Secrets enjoyed huge popularity with over 4 million votes cast in the final week, 850 000 unique browsers visiting the show’s official website (www.bigbrothermzansi.tv), logging an impressive 20 million page impressions. In total, 1.3 million messages were sent to the show’s on-screen strapline, with almost one million videos viewed from the official site. Having also gained 97 000 Twitter followers and 160 000 Facebook Likes, Brother Mzansi Secrets was undoubtedly a 2014 Television hit! Additional information courtesy of www.mzanzimagic.dstv..com

2-year-old found abandoned and crawling on N1 ORANGE FARM.- Motorists were left baffled when a two-year-old was found crawling on the N1 last Tuesday. The members of the South African Police Services (SAPS) Flying Squad were busy with their patrol duties on the highway when two motorists stopped them and told them about the baby found crawling on the road. The 2-year-old baby boy was handed over to the police. Since it was not known how, when and by whom the baby was brought there, the police had to search the entire open veld next to the road for clues without success. As it was already dark the police had to take the baby to Orange Farms SAPS where a case of child abandonment was laid. The child was later taken to a place of safety with the help of a social worker. Police spokesperson Captain Maloyi Polo says that

the gruesome discovery of this baby forced the police to go on air (Lesedi FM) requesting the residents to come to the rescue of the baby. “On Friday the grandmother reported to Orange Farms SAPS and told them that the description she heard on the radio fits that of her grandson. In an interview with SABC news the grandmother alleges that her daughter claimed to have taken the baby to his father in Thembisa,” says Polo adding that upon talking to the father telephonically, they learned that the child’s mother had phoned him earlier to tell him that the child was dead. On Friday the baby`s mother was arrested and detained at Orange Farms SAPS. She appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrates Court on Monday.

Robbery turns into cold blooded murder

Mduduzi Mathebula

SHARPEVILLE.- A 55-year-old Phelandaba man was killed in cold blood in full view of his wife and daughter in the early hours of the morning on Friday by three suspects that are still at large. Kolobetso Machaba’s life was ended by three house robbery suspects who shot him after they stabbed him several times. Both Machaba and his wife’s hands were tied by the robbers who demanded the keys to the safe, money, cellphones, and car keys. All of those items with the exception of the safe, which the deceased refused to hand over, were handed to the suspects. The suspects then apparently became vicious in the efforts to get hold of it. In a police report the distraught daughter of the deceased states that a plasma TV, four cellphones, and a BMW 335i car-key were taken during the

robbery. Police spokesperson Constable Tshifiwa Mitileni says that one cellphone was however recovered at the scene. The plasma TV and the car were also found. “A case of murder and house robbery has been opened. The three suspects are at large and there are no leads yet. Police are doing everything to solve the case,” says Mitileni. The community of Sharpeville stood astonished by the side of the scene wondering what cost the suspects to kill the deceased. “I’m very emotional about the matter, Machaba was a people’s person a very well organised man,” says a neighbour who asked to remain anonymous.

RUST-TER-VAAL.- The death of the former Vaal Professional star Neil Jansen has opened doors for the community of Rustter-Vaal. Jansen, who tragically died in the field of play last week was laid to rest at the Rust-ter-Vaal Cemetery on Saturday. The Emfuleni Local Municipality MMC of Sports and Recreation Shaka Radebe made a promise to the Rust-ter-Vaal community that the municipality will up-grade the Rust-ter-Vaal Sports Complex and name it after the late Neil Jansen. This was welcomed with applaud by the mourners who packed the Roman Catholic Church.

Radebe and Sedibeng Mayor Simon Mofokeng were part of speakers at the funeral. “This is a promise that I make to the Rust-ter-Vaal community because Jansen always asked me when we are going to upgrade the Rust-ter-Vaal Sports Complex. I made this promise to him that I will upgrade the facilities and now I will deliver the promises I made to him,” says Radebe. Jansen was described a disciplinary, a person who always smiled and he was loved by many. It was down to memory lane with his former Vaal Pros and Giant Blackpool teammates coming to pay their last respects to their former teammate.

SHARPEVILLE.- A stream in Phelandaba proved to be dangerous when a pensioner lost his life as he tried to cross it on his way home last week. It is said that the pensioner, aged around 80, slipped and fell into the ditch that separates Putswasteen and Phelandaba. A passerby alleges that he saw the lifeless old man trapped in the stream and he jumped in, pulled him out and called for help. It appears that the pensioner might have spent the night in the stream as he could not speak or move. The man who rescued him asked him what his name was but he was not responsive. As the man searched the victims pockets for any identification he came across a wallet that contained money and a bank card. Lucka Dlamini says, “The man might have come from the pay point and was heading home when he fell into the ditch. I tried to call the emergency personnel but they only arrived two hours later. The deceased could have been alive if they came in time.” A police van that was passing a1tLQHV

in the area was called to the scene. Community members were called to identify the man but nobody knew him. Police spokesperson Captain Attie Loate confirms that the unknown body was taken to the government mortuary and appeals to anyone who might have lost a loved one to contact the Sharpeville Police Station on 016 451 2717 or Warrant Officer Mohlong on 083 568 4923.

‘Mama Action’ addresses Boiketlong residents Lazarus Dithagiso

SEBOKENG. - “Elections will come and go but the people will still be looking for houses,” said Gauteng Premier Nomvula ‘Mama Action’ Mokonyane. The premier was addressing hundreds of residents who made up a capacity audience during an ‘Imbizo’ in Boiketlong recently. Mokonyane said she was aware that many people had lost hope of owning houses. “ The aim of this ‘imbizo’ is to show you how dearly we will always care for you as the ruling government. We don’t want to see people being hurt and dying because of service delivery. We humbly appeal that we work together, and rectify where we have failed you. The government is creating more job opportunities,” said Mokonyane. She said that to declare Boiketlong an official township, there is more to be done. First a survey of structures has to be conducted. The government has bought the land from the owner without a problem and ‘Mama Action’ as Mokonyane is commonly called said that she was glad that at long last the

land-owner had come to the party. “Our hearts should go to child-headed families and the elderly. They will be given priority in the issue of houses. Let’s also be symphathetic to our elders when coming to issuing houses. Those who previously benefited from the go-

vernment houses must give a chance to others. People trying to benefit twice from the houses will be computer-identified immediately,” she said. Sedibeng District Executive Mayor Mahole Mofokeng announced that personnel from two construction companies

were already there to install poles on areas marked for water and stands. Mofokeng said: “It’s far where the government comes from but nearer to where it’s going.” The crowd was entertained by Solly Moholo and Arthur Mafokate.

Cancer fun walk a great success Mduduzi Mathebula

SHARPEVILLE.- Cancer is a highly complex, ubiquitous and devastating disease causing 10million new diagnoses world-wide per annum. Of these, 6.7 million will succumb and at present there are 24.6 million cancer patients living with cancer and hoping to survive. Mrs South Africa top 50 finalists Sarah Notsi was tasked to create a cancer charity event that will represent those who are living with the diseases and affected by it. On Saturday George Thabe Stadium was filled to the brim by those who are affected by and living with Cancer. Notsi hosted the fun walk that was supported by many familiar faces, the likes of Luc-

ky Nhlapo from Kabelo Boot Camp, Vincent Kutuane, Emfuleni Local Municipality MMC of Health Sello Pitso and many more. The walk started from the George Thabe Stadium to the Dlomo Dam and back to George Thabe Stadium. It was very exciting and funny living up to expectations. “We live life without any kind of doubts while there are people who fight for their lives daily thinking they might die at anytime. Great is the one in me than the one in the world,” says Notsi when addressing the magnitudes that supported her initiative. Reverend Lefa Pheto was the master of ceremony and further prayed for those who

LLive ive yyour our llife ife tthe he w ay yyou ou w ant way want 9R_Na\ @R_R_\ Women and men that stand at corners in their nightwear in the mornings and discuss other people’s issues, the women and men that ride busses to work in the morning and tell you that they have ‘booked’ seats (staff members) on the bus permanently and the women and men that have their couches in trains that leave for ‘town’ in the early hours of the morning and sing gospel hymns as if they are ho-

lier than you are not different from each other as they are all a bunch of liars who prefer to twist and turn other peoples’ stories to make them their own during their malicious conversations. According to me these women and men can spin you a story that is out of this world and make you believe what they are telling you is true, while they are making the story up all along and have never got it firsthand. They can sell Ice to an Eskimo with their lies, that is how good they are in scheming. You again find these characters in workplaces, schools and even in churches as I can tell you they are not ashamed of themselves, they are everywhere. They are simple gossipmongers. Right, lets get to the point which is to be who you are no matter what. Be who you are and have the courage to accept yourself as you really are, not as as someone else thinks you should be. Do not take

action or pretend to be someone else for the sake of gaining acceptance. Many people believe that when they do things to please others they will be popular and liked. They go against the advice of their parents, partners or their own common sense only to find themselves in trouble and not accomplishing what they set out to do.When you do things that are not genuine or a reflection of the real you, you will not be happy with yourself and will end up confused. You’ll be confused because you won’t know whom to please, or how. Have self respect because self-respect comes from being true to who you really are and from acting in accordance with your fundamental nature. When you are true to yourself, you allow your individuality and uniqueness to shine through. You respect the opinions of others but do not conform to stereotypes or their expectations of you.To be true to your-

self takes courage. It requires you to be introspective, sincere, open-minded and fair. It does not mean that you are inconsiderate or disrespectful of others. It means that you will not let others define you or make decisions for you that you should make for yourself. Be who you are, be your genuine self and follow your own value system and common sense. Listen to the advice of others, but make up your own mind and understand that you are enriching others by being yourself. Now I am sorry if you are not one of the people that I mentioned above and do not fall under the category of gossipmongers but you know that amongst you there are those that are exactly the way that I have stated and they will not cease to exist if we let them ruin lives. I prefer not to care. after all I am true to myself and live my life the way I want. Lerato...

Tshepiso roads are in appalling conditions Moleboheng Chaha

SHARPEVILLE.- With the national elections around the corner, many still wonder why some roads have been left in terrible conditions. Residents living next to Pitseng Road in Tshepiso Phase 3, Sharpeville state that the standard of roads in their area is not satisfactory. This comes after a main road heading into Sharpeville was recently blocked by sewer water that damaged the whole road, making it difficult for cars to even pass there. Vehicles have to take alternative routes to reach their destination. A Phase 3 resident who did not want to disclose his name says, “We have to walk long distances simply because of the potholes. We have been complaining but nothing seems to happen. Political parties ha-

ve been campaigning door to door asking for our votes but they cannot fix our roads.” Ward 11 Councillor Velly Mzangwa has asked the residents to be patient as he has been in talks with the Emfuleni Local Munucipality about fixing the roads. “The condition of this road has made life difficult for residents, which is why I am treating this as a matter of urgency. “Even the mayor has been made aware about this issue. There are processes that have to be done before the project begins such as the Intergrated Development Planning of which we have already undergone.” As of now a plan is being made to make a temporary solution before the project goes underway so my plea is that the community must be patient.” Mzangwa ends.

The Vaal gets its own CCMA office

VEREENIGING. - Representatives of political parties, labour unions and the business sector recently welcomed the opening of the Vaal’s own office of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) on the corner of Kruger Avenue and Edward Street in Vereeniging. In the past, residents of the Vaal had to travel to Johannesburg or other bigger city centres when they needed the services of the CCMA. The CCMA is tasked with delivering a social justice mandate through: • Ensuring accessibility to the law; treating all CCMA users with respect and dignity; empowering vulnerable sectors and communities. • Contributing to the streamlining of CCMA dispute resolution processes and reducing unnecessary referrals. Promotion of compliance with and appropriate usage of CCMA dispute resolution processes; conducting of trends analyses and troubleshooting with CCMA users. • Contributing to the transformation of

workplace relations: building workplace relations, managing conflict in the workplace and dealing with workplace discipline projects. • Promoting and facilitating social dialogue: facilitation of social partner events on topical labour market and legal issues through summits, user forum meetings and seminars. According to Mildred Oliphant, Minister of Labour, whose speech was read at the official opening, institutions like the CCMA and others have been tools in driving the agenda for social change that is part of South Africa’s ‘good story.’ “The launch of this office is part of this good story. It is for social justice and for human dignity. We will continue to heal this country and the CCMA is one of the tools to achieve this healing,” she said in her message. “I am glad to say that as a result of the good work of the Portfolio Committee and all other stakeholders, this (Vaal Triangle) office now has taken on the status of being a permanent office under direction of Johannesburg.”

SEDIBENG.- The Free State Department of Home Affairs and Fezile Dabi District Municipality hosted a successful Identity Document (ID) handover ceremony at the ever ready Groenpunt Correctional Centre last Thursday. This was led by the Regional Correctional Service Commissioner Subashini Moodley an Area Commissioner Mandla Mkhwanazi. The event was fully anticipated by the Medium and Youth Centre. Moodley was overjoyed at the initiative of the home affairs. “We are very grateful by the support of the Home Affairs and their efforts to see behind the prisons gates. Having an ID, is a great thing to an inmate and South African citizens,” She said during her welcoming speech at Groenpunt Hall. Moodley stated that inmates should look at this initiative as the second chance gateway to do things right in their lives. Musical perfomances by the medium sections’ gumboots and choir teams were much fruitful than the Fezile Dabi District Municipality Mayor Moeketsi Moshodi who was way of out of context using the event for votes. The musical perfomances entertained masses before he handed the IDs to the prisoners as smile’s and excitement was written all over their faces.

“I don’t have a bag for my books”

Mduduzi Mathebula

VEREENIGING. - Vereeniging Police recently visited one of the poorest schools in the region just outside Vereeniging where they donated school bags filled with school materials to the pupils. The visit was also embraced by the Soul Providers Organisation, led by Baba Kubheka. Sector Commander Warrant Officer Oujan Mohoboko, the man

behind the initiative was delighted by the support he received from all stakeholders. “It was very sad when I first visited the place and saw one of the pupils in uniform without a school bag. When I asked why, she replied, ‘I don’t have a bag in which to put my books.’ It lanced my heart and I had to come up with a plan to give back to the community, especi-

I am speechless and astonished by the police project,” Principal Maile said. The children were smiling all the way and were extremely grateful upon reveiving their gifts.

Ghetto Youth Production on the go Mduduzi Mathebula

BOPHELONG.- Ghetto Youth Productions from Bophelong have soldiered to create what can only be called a cinematic ‘masterpiece.’ These young, untested actors are passionate about film-making. They were inspired by Loshin Bioskop from Mzansi Magic. This group of four say they have been monitoring Loshin Bioskop movies for quite some time and have been trying to create their own production company in order to reduce the high rate of unemployment in the area. Theo Radebe, one of the main actors in the movie, says it is about the township life of four young, employed young men who resolve their frustrations by committing crime. “Things work out well in the beginning, but as the plot progresses, the tables start to turn for the characters. This movie caters for every kind of viewer because we display the negative side of criminal life that leads to the grave and/or permanent illness,” says Radebe, who adds that they need help to finish up the movies because they are still learning. Thembalawo Mziwakhe, co-owner, says the script is very exciting and showcases reality. “At this moment people think we are taking chances. Yes it’s better to fail while trying something than to sit and do nothing,” says Mziwakhe. These young, determined actors promise the public a movie full of raw, untested talent.

Churches pray with police officers Lazarus Dithagiso

SEBOKENG. – “Nothing can be compared to the love of God. There’s nothing that can separate us from the love of God. We are the ambassadors of heaven, let’s hold on to God,” said Past Nteleki of the Terbenacle Church of Glory at a meeting with Police

rcently. The meeting was organised by Colonel Msebenzi Mabala, head of the Gauteng Flying Squad and Water Wing (Vaal Rand). The event was recently hosted at the Saul Tsotetsi Sport Centre. Mabala said the purpose was to pray against crime. “As we approach the general elections, it’s

very important that our men and women in blue receive strong prayers from different church denominations,” he said. Mabala and his members invited over 20 people from the land-fill near Boipatong to receive food parcels. The Emfuleni Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Public Safety Velly Mcera was the main guest. He said it is religion that installs morale to regenerate the congregation. Speaking about the neighbours, a former Police Captain Mcera said it is important to take charge of our streets, making it easy for the police to track

down suspects and criminals. He appealed to the public reclaim the streets from the hands of the criminals. This could only be done when members of the community joined hands with the Community Policing Forum (CPF) and other structures that are dealing with crime. “Before pointing fingers and complaining, first ask yourself a question: what am I doing for my community,” said Mcera. “Let us all be part of the changes we want to see happening in our environment,” he concluded.

I wish I can die tomorrow! Just imagine, imagine attending a funeral and when you look into the coffin you come face-to-face with yourself. This is your funeral! When you look at the programme the first speaker is your friend, the second speaker is your colleague and the last speaker is a family member: What would you like to hear them say about you? Shooting From The Hip atten-

ded former Vaal Professional star – Neil Jansen’s funeral over the weekend and I wished I could die so that I can hear what people would say about me at my funeral. It was a moving service and listening to speaker after speaker Shooting From The Hip realised that Neil Jansen was not just an ordinary person. He was the man with vision and he knew what he wanted in life unlike many of us who don’t know what we want to achieve. The community of Rust-ter-Vaal will be never the same again because of this fallen hero’s departure.

He might not be here anymore but he has done enough for the community of Rust-terVaal. He was a selfless soul who wanted the best for his community. Shooting From The Hip was touched by his former coach Simon ‘Bull’ Lehoko’s speech and how he described Jansen. I found myself in tears and I said to myself – this is the prize that one gets when one is committed to his community. As Shooting From The Hip said in last week’s comment - Neil Jansen was one of the few former soccer stars who devoted his time to the development of football in this region. Jansen did not settle for mediocrity.

He wanted the best out of his players and life in general. Shooting From The Hip will miss those phone calls on Monday and Fridays to ask about weekend soccer programmes especially for the youngsters. I just wish to die tomorrow and witness what people would say and rise from the dead a few days after my funeral to fix where I must and finish incomplete work. At the weekend I attended my own funeral. I came face-to-face with me in Jansen’s coffin.

SEBOKENG.- Victoria Netball Development Academy youngster – Noxolo Mzabane is living a dream of becoming a household name in South African netball. This talented youngster was selected for the Gauteng Netball Provincial team after she impressed the selectors. The team will represent Gauteng at the upcoming Netball Premier League for 2014. Mzabane is the only player from the Sedibeng region to be selected for the Gauteng team. Club managing director Paul Makhale says this is great news for Sedibeng netball. Makhale says he has no doubt that Mzabane has a great potential to become a household name in Netball South Africa if she continues to work hard. “We are very delighted that she is the only player from our region to represent us at provincial level, which will really motivate other players to work hard towards their goals. I have no doubt that she will represent Sedibeng region with pride,” says Makhale. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sports, Mzabane says she is grateful to be in the Gauteng Provincial team. “I could not believe my ears when I was informed that I had been selected for the Gauteng Team. I’m aware I’m the only one in the Gauteng team from this region and this means a lot to me. I want to thank my coaches and teammates because, if it wasn’t for them, I would not have been part of the Gauteng team,” she concludes.

Ajax not going down - Zondo Zacharia Nale

VANDERBIJLPARK.- It never rains but pours for the newly promoted Sebokeng Ajax FC when the top of the table Vaal Milano FC hammered them 10-1 in a one-sided Safa Sedibeng SAB League match played at the Shakespeare Stadium on Sunday. This was a record win not only for Vaal Milano FC but also for the Safa SAB League for the past two seasons. Ajax played like headless chickens and showed no resistance to the home team. In all fairness Vaal Milano FC too did not produce a sterling performance and it is just that they were up against a disjointed and disorganised Sebokeng Ajax FC. They were there for the taking and even the junior soccer teams could have had a fun filled day with them. There was a lot of expectation when the team was promoted to the Safa Sedibeng SAB League and even their coach Master Zondo watched in disbelief when his side ran aimlessly in the field. Despite the defeat, Zondo was still optimistic that his team will escape relegation at the end of the season. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Zondo says there was lot of contributing factors that resulted in the team’s poor performance on the day. “I had a funny feeling because all the players’ body language was negative before the game. I was not surprised when we lost this game but I did not expect to lose by such a huge margin. But we will bounce back in our next game,” says Zondo. Meanwhile, Vaal Milano, VUT FC and Real Hearts are all hot favourites to be crowned the league champions at the end of Safa Sedibeng SAB League.

ter-Provincial Tournament. Other players who participated in this youth provincial tournament were Ofentse Mooi (Nale Academy) and Samuel Nkomo from Sebokeng Celta Vigo Development FC. Nxumalo was one of the best players in Gauteng team as he marshalled defense very well. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, the softspoken defender says being selected for the Provincial U/17 national team is a dream come true. “This call up means that I must continue to work hard. To be honest I did not expect this because there were better players from academies such as Kaizer Chiefs, Sundowns, Bidvest Wits and others. If I was selected ahead of some of those academies’ players it means we are doing something right here at Nale Academy,” says Nxumalo. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport Safa Sedibeng Regional Secretary Star Hlongwane says, “We congratulate all those U/17 youngsters who were provisionally nominated and selected from the Safa National Under 17 tournament.” Meanwhile, Safa Gauteng will host another provincial U/19 selections on April 20 from 09h00 - 15h00 at Tshwane, Pretoria. Safa Sedibeng Regional Squad will also be there and are expected to display the ‘fetch-and-carry’ type of skillful football.
