Family eviction shock

Mduduzi Mathebula

SEBOKENG.- Military Officer Jabulani Skosana together with his family were left in the cold with their belongings when they were thrown out of their house in Zone 10 Extension 3 by an alleged Estate Agent and the Sheriff of the Court last week. The incident occurred in full view of neighbours, friends and family. The sheriff and the estate agent flocked into Skosana’s house with a mob that apparently terrorised the family and forced them out. This incident angered some community members and there was a dispute between the estate agent’s mob and community. The estate agent claims to have bought the house at an auction. Skosana tells Sedibeng Ster that he bought the house in 1989 and finished repairs on it in 1998 with its value being R40 000 then. “ Ever since 1998 I’ve been waiting for the title deed of this house. I don’t understand how my house could be sold on auction. I don’t owe anything on it as I own it, this is my house!I am going to take legal action against whoever is responsible for this,” says an angry Skosana trying by all means to be calm. The family slept in the open where the sheriff and the estate agent had thrown their belongings. Upon Sedibeng Ster’s arrival Skosana’s 75-year-old mother was also in the cold. “I’m going nowhere until the matter is resolved, and I hope justice will prevail and may God punish those who are against us,” said the pensioner. The Emfuleni Local Municipality MMC for Housing Manana Kubheka came to console the family. She offered the family an alternative place to stay but the family refused the offer. When asked to comment on the eviction processes that have become rife in Sedibeng Kubheka says the community needs to be educated about property and protecting their assets, refusing to dwell much on the Skosana’s family eviction as she had not acquired full information. “We need to educate our community about their rights. There are people who sell other peoples’ houses for R 10 or R 100 but we will try and get to the bottom of this matter,” concluded Kubheka. The family has since moved back into the house.

SEBOKENG. - A school deputy principal has been arrested and charged with sexual grooming. The suspect cannot be named as he has not officially pleaded in court yet. Police went to the school and arrested him in front of the learners about a week ago. This happened after a learner’s parents found pornographic images and naked pictures of the deputy principal on the victim’s cellphone. In the background of the sent pictures there were some clips of voice messages apparently sent by the suspect. Immediately, learners boycotted the classroom, demanding that the suspect stay away from the school premises. “The parents probed the phone and came across the pictures and text messages,” said Sebokeng SAPS Spokesperson Warrant Officer Mzimkulu Mthimkulu adding that the learner confessed to her parents that the deputy principal has, since last year, been making sexual advances towards her. It is alleged that the suspect told the victim how dearly he loved her, wanted to make her wealthy and ‘fix’ her final examination question-papers. Sedibeng Ster spoke to some learners who requested they not be named. They said some learners, especially girls have been promoted to the next grades by the same suspect. The suspect appeared briefly in the Sebokeng Magistrates Court. The case has been postponed for further investigation and for a formal bail application today.

MEC wants action on road thefts

Mduduzi Mathebula

SEDIBENG.- Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi this week condemned the wilful damage to and theft of cables. These were at both sets of traffic lights (robots) along the Dr Abu Baker Asvat Drive linking Soweto and Lenasia and other parts of the country. Vadi was responding to a query from The Rising Sun as to why the robots at the Lenasia intersections had not been working for several weeks. He says he had personally conducted a site investigation and was shocked to

find that the cables had been cut and all the robots were either stolen or completely vandalised. This raises the issue of service delivery protests that left Sebokeng without robots for the past two months. “This theft of and damage to our roads infrastructure must be condemned in the strongest terms,” said an angry Vadi He further stated that this was the work of a criminal syndicate and called on the community and police to help the department arrest these criminals. The MEC was also unapologetic in his condemnation of scrap-metal dealers who buy stolen copper cables and metals. He urged po-

lice to investigate and put a stop to this new trade-crime. “These businesses live off the sweat and blood of our people. It’s disgraceful!” he said. He urged the Lenasia SAPS to complete the investigation as soon as possible so that the perpetrators can be convicted. “We must send a clear signal to criminals that this community will not tolerate the destruction of public assets and facilities,” he concluded. At the time of going to press Sedibeng Ster had sent an inquery for the estimated cost of the damage to robots during the protests in the area to the Emfuleni Local Municipality.

New roofs for Boipatong houses Moleboheng Chaha

BOIPATONG. - Arcelor Mittal through its contractor Fast Vents Fifteen has given back to the community of Boipatong by removing health hazardous asbestos roofing and replacing it with brand new roofing. Project Manager Molefe Sekabala says, “Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) together with Arcelor Mittal came together to form this community project. Asbestos can be harmful as it causes different diseases. “To alleviate poverty and unemployment, Fast Vents Fifteen employed people from Boipatong and provided them with training so that they could carry out this project themselves,” adds Sekabala. Ward 3 Councillor Vusumuzi Ponto

Mbele says, “Councillor Mabandla Ronyuza and myself actually approached the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) about this problem and they then contacted Arcelor Mittal. I think I speak for the community as a whole when I say that we are very excited to see this happen. We hope that by the completion of the project all the houses in Boipatong will have new roofing.” Mbele states that he has also urged Fast Vents Fifteen to visit wheelchair-bound resident Teboho Leboko. “Leboko’s house burned down recently. I approached Fast Vents Fifteen to help with reinforcing the walls and renovating his house to make it wheelchair-friendly.” Mbele concludes.

It is that time of the year when the Christian community, across denominations, remember the death and rise of the Lord Jesus Christ. Easter is a poignant and important annual event. Many people will travel during this season to visit family and friends or to join church pilgrimages. Therefore, the government, through the Departments of Health and Transport, ensures that there are minimum road accidents. On behalf of the Sedibeng District Municipality, I wish you all peaceful and safe travelling as you travel to your various destinations to meet your loved ones.

EASTER MESSAGE

FROM THE EXECUTIVE MAYOR OF THE

SEDIBENG DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY, CLLR. MAHOLE SIMON MOFOKENG

As a reflection of the 20-year celebration of democracy, let us in a spirit of the late Ntate Madiba, continue touching the lives of those around us. Let us make this Easter weekend one in which we minimise accidents on the roads. It depends on each and every road user to exercise responsibility as we move forward. This is a significant Easter because it is in the same month where, on 27th of April 1994, everyone who was eligible to vote voted regardless of their skin colour. 20 years on, we are preparing for the 5th general elections on the 7th of May 2014. Like the eligible voters of 1994, who exercised their right to cast their vote, eligible voters of 2014 must cast their vote to move South Africa forward peacefully in the up-coming general elections.

Happy Easter

I wish all the people of Sedibeng, and South Africans at large, a truly blessed Easter. Let us return safe and continue to build our country, the economy and its people. God bless. Cllr. Mahole Simon Mofokeng Sedibeng District Municipal Executive Mayor

It shows others that you want to right your wrong, that you feel horrible about what you’ve done and you hate that you’ve hurt people you care about. When you apologise from a place of sincerity and openness, wounds are mended and broken hearts are healed. However, there are certain things that you don’t need to apologise for. SHARPEVILLE. - Rand Water celebrated 110 years of service delivery on Thursday morning at Sharpeville Cricket Park. Here thousands attended an event graced by the honourable Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs Edna Molewa and Rand Water Chief Executive Officer Percy Sechemane. According to Sechemane the organisation has harnessed the experience and knowledge in many aspects of water-supply since its 1903 establishment. Rand Water has realised the importance of creating a place in which these special records can be stored. The memories will ensure that future generations are informed about Rand Water history. He was addressing the masses that attended the 110 celebrations in Sharpeville. He expressed confidence about the organisation’s ability to turn the museum into a modern technological facility that would be visited by school pupils. He

says, “Rand Water not only operates within the ambit of various laws, government policies and regulatory requirements, but also recognises its ethical social environmental and stakeholders’ responsibilities. The business has over the years displayed its commitment to conduct its affairs in a responsible and ethical manner.” She added that Rand Water increased its revenue from R3.7 billion in 2006 to R1.75 billion in 2012/13. Capital expenditure increased from R339 million in 2006 to 1.75 billion in 2012/13. She further noted that the Rand Water Academy launched on October 12 of 2012 to address strategic requirements on a national and political level as well as Rand Water’s need to systematise the various pockets of excellence in training and development. There were lots of entertainment during intervals and Dr Malinga kept the audience on their fee with his music and various artists and the like of City Boy and Diniso Gamakhulu.

New fire safety by-laws for Midvaal MEYERTON. - New by-laws have been passed to restrict the use of fireworks within Midvaal’s borders. In the past, the rule stipulated that permission for using fireworks was only necessary for certain places such as public areas, schools or indoors. The designated list did not include residential areas. That by-law has now been changed to include “in any residential area”. Anyone intending to use fireworks, must know that if permission is granted to use fireworks, members of the public must be notified 30 days prior to an the event of the time, date and venue when fireworks will be displayed. A letter of consent from the owner or person responsible for the property on which the fireworks display, is proposed to be presented. The owner or responsible person must also take out peoples liability to accept full responsibility for any losses and damages to people, animals or property linked to the fireworks display. The request for more stringent monitoring of fireworks use within Midvaal came after an unfortunate incident involving fireworks

5

which led to the injury of a dog. A few local communities then gathered to write a petition regarding the use of fireworks. The Fire Department began a process to engage with the broader Midvaal community to get their response on the issue of fireworks usage. The proposed changes were then presented and approved at a Council meeting in January this year. MMC for Protection James Botsoere said it is important as a Council that they listen to the concerns of the residents. “In cases where the issues raised are valid, we will work together to find a resolution, and we hope that this case shows that Midvaal is willing to assist and support our residents across a wide range of areas. I must also thank our Fire Department for the active role they played in following all the processes to change the by-laws.” For more information regarding the fire safety by-laws, residents can contact the Midvaal Local Municipality on (016) 360 7400 and ask for the Protection Services Department.

is that they allow you to grow and peel back the layers to reveal the most genuine version of yourself, so I say, own the new experiences with all you’ve got! You don’t need to apologise for saying NO, You don’t need to apologise for being YOU. What do you apologise for when you put yourself first? I mean what do you really apologise for when you passionately go after what you want? Are you always apologising? Is ‘I’m sorry’ something that just spills out of your mouth automatically? If so, then you may be confessing more than an apologising. I would never apologise for wanting to be happy. I think this guy (the

politician) needs to get his head straight and tell us once and for all what he really wants to say before he starts to apologise again and again. Soon everyone will be expecting him to apologise for getting involved in politics in the first place, don’t you think? On a lighter note please enjoy your long weekend (Good Friday and your Family Day), do please come back safe if you are going away and, if you are driving, respect the rules of the road because if you don’t you will definitely ‘APOLOGISE’ behind bars. CPF donates shoes and socks to needy children Sharpeville Community Policing Forum member Ndosi Mofokeng along with the Matsie Steyn staff are very happy to share the moment with the five children to whom Mofokeng donated shoes and socks. This comes after he saw children walking to school with old shoes and socks. Because he is himself a product of the school he decided to gather money and help those he could. The main reason he chose to give back to the school was to say ‘Thank You’ to the teachers who made him the person he is today. Most of these children have parents who work, but low wages and unstable employment leaves their families struggling to make ends meet. School principal Majani Nhlapo says, “Mofokeng came at the right time. As we approach Easter, he showed that he really appreciates what the school did for him. We are very grateful that even though he is a volunteer he took his time and made five children very happy. Thank you very much. We really appreciate his efforts.” Photo: Pinky Mofokeng.

“LIVE IN A BIG MIRROR”

As a single mother of 3 kids. I went through a lot of problems after my two failed marriages. I nearly commited suicide, but I thought about the future of my kids. I was doubtful that I could ever get help after many Priests & Healers failed. Over the past years I have heard many testimonial from family & friends praising Habibu’s super natural powers.

Sekuriteit / Security

mana

Actually, while visiting him, I was shocked when he showed me REAL FACES of my enemies LIVE IN A BIG MIRROR. Truly convinced, I paid R100 for consultation & he performed a special prayer, clansed me for bad luck & gave me powerful love crystals plus a ring (for financial problems) to use at my workplace & business premises.

Now I am married to a very successful man who is providing me with every good thing I ever dreamt of. There’s no amount of words to thank Habibu, but only telling everyone about him. Also helps> IN FORTUNE TELLING, HEALTH PROBLEMS, etc

Tournaments become veil for personal holidays If we can stop using our regional squads as holiday destinations Shooting From The Hip would be thrilled because we can achieve whatever we desire in the field of play. Nowadays coaching our regional squads is like riding the gravy-train. I just said it! Guys! Coaching our regional squads is not only about those fancy hotels you stay

in during the Safa Tournaments, but we demand results in the field of play. It is surprising how some coaches will fight to coach our regional squads because they will spend five days in a ‘FIVE STAR’ hotel. If Shooting From The Hip may ask: When last did our team bring silverware to our region except when our u/15 won the Safa Legacy Junior Soccer Tournament that took place at Eldorado Park Stadium last December? In recent times our squads have been nothing but a bunch of ‘LOSERS’ as the Minister of Sports, Fikile Mbalula at one stage called our national team, Bafana Bafana. The follow-up question on this should be:

How do you feel as a coach to take players who are not fit to represent our region just because you want to do them a favour? The problem with our region is that we do not monitor our players’ progress and we select the players who quit football a long time ago. Did somebody bother to ask why our u/15s went all the way to the final last year of the Safa Legacy Junior Tournament? No! It is because the coaches did their homework by selecting players who play in their respective teams every weekend. They selected players who are exposed to that level of competition. I think the same must happen with our u/19 squad - select those play-

ers who play for their teams every weekend. We must go to the league and check the team sheet. We must select players who play every weekend rather than players who smoke Nayope in the township. Gentlemen, please stop selecting players who bask in the sun at the shops or at the street corners to represent our region. There must be respect! These youngsters must be proud of representing our regional squads. They must wear those tracksuits with pride after the tournament. Please let us not use our squad for holiday destinations! We demand results and nothing else.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Katleho Dyoyi is another local lad who is hoisting the Sedibeng flag high in United States of America (USA). This former Carel De Wet High School student was granted a lifetime opportunity to study in USA as part of his scholarship. The talented runner has become a revelation for the Monroe Mustangs Athletics Club, clinching unbelievable records. He specialises in track and field, and cross country. Since he went to New York, Dyoyi is one of the most popular runners and is considering staying in New York to futher his career because of the opportunities that have availed themselves. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport via a trans-atlantic telephone interview, Dyoyi says he enjoys each and every moment of his stay in New York. “I really enjoy my stay here and I have made good friends. I want to thank my former school Carel de Wet for

this kind of opportunity because I would not be here if it wasn’t for them. This is where all it started and I never thought that one day I would be where I’m today. I also encourage other youths to study and train hard so that they too can get this kind of opportunity. It was not only through athletics I got this opportunity but also through education,” says Dyoyi excitedly. He has been described as a wondrous and an excellent student by Gary Axelbank who is Monroe College’s Sports Development Director. Dyoyi was named ‘All American’ for his outstanding performance in the three races – Indoor Track and Field Championships he ran in March. He also helped his school finish third in relay setting a record. Monroe Mustangs Athletics is about providing the opportunity for student athletes to study in USA and getting the academic benefits of an American College Degree and also experience the cultural and social advantage of all that America has to offer.

EVATON._ This year’s Pooe Easter Soccer Tournament will form part of the celebration of 20 Years of Democracy/Freedom. This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by Kgokgi Sports Foundation publicist Mondli Nkosi. The tournament started two weeks ago with junior soccer teams and the senior teams (open) are expected to start their tournament programme this weekend. According to Nkosi they decided to dedicate this year’s

tournament in honour of the icon Nelson Mandela and also celebrating the 20 Years of Freedom. “ Look, football forms part of democracy because it also played an important role in the freedom of this country. For example this country was readmitted to the international scene after it was banned in all sporting codes because of the previous regime and we saw it fitting to celebrate this in style. These youngsters must be educated in the history of our country through sport. We want to in-

vite the people and share the historical moment with them so that they can understand where we come from as far as football is concerned,” said Nkosi. He also revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport that they want wheelchair basketball to form part of this year’s tournament. He says this week they will have a meeting with relevant stakeholders to see if they can get wheelchair basketball played on the day of the final. He says they are looking for only four teams for a start and next year

to involve more wheelchair basketball teams to participate in the tournament. He adds, “We want to accommodate as many sporting activities as we can, especially disability sports like wheelchair basketball. This will be something extraordinary because in most cases disability sports are neglected.” Nkosi told Sedibeng Ster Sport that there will be lots of entertainment on the day of finals with a host of prizes to be won by both the winning teams and soccer fans.
