The event was created by RHAC Youth Development Centre as a drug awareness campaign in the fight against ‘nyaope’. The outside theatre created at the central place at Zone 7 shops attracted many passersby and consumers who saw the event as a form of art. Young people across the region were part of this event as they ventured to educate other young people on drugs. Mbonge Bodlani, area co-ordinator, says it was a great success and most young people attended and participated. “We are very grateful for the attendance D.L.T.T

and the performance we have received from all the productions. It really shows that as a community we are sick and tired of nyaope and the epidemic it has inflicted on the nation.” Every group was given a fair chance to showcase their talent in their quest for drug awareness. The most outstanding group was Jubulile Arts and Culture Society. The group, consisting of girls only performed Zulu dances with skilled verve and enthusiasm. Co-ordinator Tladi Moletsane says they are willing to establish a centre within the region. Empilisweni Clinic, LoveLife, ,the South African National Council on Alcoholism and SANCA staff members were also part of the event to educate the audience on drugs and its effects.

A mother’s nightmare Moleboheng Chaha
SEBOKENG. - A 73-year-old Zone 11 man faces a charge of rape after he allegedly raped his 12-year-old stepdaughter recently. The girl’s mother Elizabeth Nku* (not her real name), who has expressed her mistrust of men, states that she laid a charge of rape against her husband of five years after her daughter confessed that he had raped her twice. The distraught mother says she suspected that something was wrong when her husband said that their daughter should move into the bedroom at the other end of the house. “He told me that my daughter was too old to still be sharing a room with my son. He then forced her to move into the other room. At the time I did not suspect anything,” says Nku. “I would leave for work early in the morning. That was when he would wake my daughter up, take her to our bedroom and rape her.” adds a distraught Nku. Nku says she was forced to act when she heard that her daughter was arriving late at school. “I asked myself how that was possible as I always prepared everything for her before I left for work. “What worried me the most is that her behavior had changed completely. We then took my daughter to hospital, where a doctor confirmed she had been raped.” The girl has told Sedibeng Ster how the awful incident has changed her life for god. “I hear whispers all around me at school; some of the kids won’t even play with me. Although a counsellor has told me it is not my fault, I can’t help it as others make me feel that way,” she says. Sebokeng Police spokesperson Captain Mzimkhulu Mthimkhulu confirms that a case of rape is being investigated. The suspect has been released on bail. The magistrate has required DNA tests be done to link the suspect to the rape as there are inconsistencies in the accounts of events given by the victim.

Potholes blight wedding day Mduduzi Mathebula
VEREENIGING. - Vereeniging Police and paramedics had to leave their offices on Saturday afternoon when a wedding car overturned in a horrific accident on Waterdale Road. A wedding day that was supposed to be an event of jubilation, a day that merge two families turned into a day of tears as two passengers and a driver were rushed to hospital. The BMW is said to have veered out of control, but no-one knows how it happened. Upon Sedibeng Ster’s arrival, the paramedics were deeply engaged in efforts to salvage those involved in the accident. The accident shocked many motorists and bystanders. No-one had any idea what had happened, but preliminary police investigati-
A ghastly accident left three people with severe injuries during a wedding over the weekend.
Beware of the scam
VEREENIGING. - The Vereeniging SAPS would like to issue a warning to the general public who do banking in and around the Vereeniging area. There has lately been an increase in the number of reported robbery of cash from people who withdraw large amounts of cash from the bank. The modus operandi on these cases is as follows: The con artists target people who withdraw large amounts of cash from the bank. They then follow their unsuspecting victims and drop a thick pile of money in front of them, and convince the victims to go with them so that they can share the money. The victim will be taken to a remote place where there are no cameras (next
to the train station in Union Street or Mario Milan Avenue). Along the way the con artist will be joined by other perpetrators and they will rob the victims of their personal belongings and the cash that they withdrew from the bank. SAPS Vereeniging appeals to the public to be vigilant, especially at this time of the year and to check their surroundings when they are leaving the banks. They should check if there is anyone following them. The con artists will go to the extent of smearing their potential victims with a black greasy substance to get their attention and some pose as police officers. Do not fall for the scam.

MEYERTON.- 17 part-time employees of the Midvaal Local Municipality were recently proud to receive certificates following their completion of training with the assistance of the Social Services Department. The recipients are classified as indigents living within the Midvaal and are seasonal employees contracted by the Midvaal Local Municipality to conduct work for the Parks Department, this include cutting grass, clearing flower beds and cutting trees. Aaliyah Dangor, Midvaal Local Municipality media liaison officer tells Sedibeng Ster that the Social Services Department decided to assist these part-time employees by registering them as part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), so that they could receive training through the EPWP initiatives. “The trainees completed an NQF Level 1 standard in Disposal and Handling of Waste, as well as an NQF Level 2 standard in Occupational Health and Safety in March 2014. This will assist them in applying for jobs when permanent positions open at the municipality, and a qualification in Waste Mana-

Alderman Cliff Hartman, MMC for Social Services at Midvaal, says, “ These are projects which really make a difference in people’s lives. Finding ways to up-skill people
and create opportunities for them across different departments is part of our job creation strategy, and it is extremely motivating to see our residents receive their qualifications.”
Emfuleni launches potholes campaign programme Lazarus Dithagiso
BOPHELONG. - While launching a pothole programme executive Emfuleni Local Municipality mayor Gretha Hlongwane stressed to the community that it had nothing to do with electioneering. The aim is to minimize crises and costs experienced by motorists on local roads.
The Mayor kick-started the patching of potholes programme under the theme “Repairing Potholes: Making Our Roads Safer For You.’ Dube Road near Lefelong Complex was the first to be tarred on April 23. She explained that the aim to tackle head-on the state of decay of some Emfuleni roads has nothing
to do with the election period. “Motorists have long complained about the dire state of our roads,” she said. The programme is already underway in
other areas such as Palm Springs, Small Farms, Sebokeng, Three Rivers, Roshnee, Sonland Park, Vanderbijlpark, Vaaldrift and other parts of Emfuleni.

As a single mother of 3 kids. I went through a lot of problems after my two failed marriages. I nearly commited suicide, but I thought about the future of my kids. I was doubtful that I could ever get help after many Priests & Healers failed. Over the past years I have heard many testimonial from family & friends praising Habibu’s super natural powers.
Actually, while visiting him, I was shocked when he showed me REAL FACES of my enemies LIVE IN A BIG MIRROR. Truly convinced, I paid R100 for consultation & he performed a special prayer, clansed me for bad luck & gave me powerful love crystals plus a ring (for financial problems) to use at my workplace & business premises.

VANDERBIJLPARK. - Quest Conference Hall was crammed to capacity on Wednesday morning during Sedibeng District Municipality’s business breakfast IDP and Budget Review. The event was graced by MEC Mxolisi Xoyiya of Gauteng Economic Development. A speech by Mofokeng was made on the dynamics and logistics of the IDP and its progress over the last 10 years - in education, development and business. Xoyiya said huge laziness marked the District IDP report. He feels heads need to roll if people are employed but are not pulling their weight for the progress of the Vaal region. “You are all deployed to bring change to people’s lives, not to make excuses. As servants of the community we need to deliver and be hands-on with everything that transpires within the region in all departments. We cannot stand here after 10 years and say that we have improved by 1% from last year in certain departments. To me, that’s a total failure,” said the MEC sternly. He added that the region can only grow if the community and its people make means to grow it, but if it’s still filled with finger-pointing blamers and complainers, its going nowhere.

cised their right and forgot what Ronnie Kasrils and his partners ‘in crime’ were trying to achieve in saying we should not vote or spoil ballot papers. On Wednesday a host of us voted and we voted for the better, and for South Africa. All we can only do now is look forward to the next five years and believe that there can be change. I am not a master politician but I know enough to know that the political big wigs of this country have somehow lost touch with their constituencies. This we all know.
To regain confidence in them they need to work hard, they need to make changes, changes that are designed to ensure that they never lose touch with the people that count the most, the voters. We know South Africa can be better than this. Now that we have voted for whoever we believe will bring change, the fight for our country is just beginning. So let’s go out and fight for the young people who need a job. The young people who are addicted to ‘nyaope’. Let’s go out and fight for a better education. Let’s go out and fight for all the low paid workers facing a cost of living

Let’s go out and fight for the small business people who need someone on their side. Above all, let’s go out and fight with all the power that we have for the future of this country. SEBOKENG. - Household name and revered Reverend Lefa Pheto was ordinated Bishop recently before a crowd at the Saul Tsotetsi Hall. The ordination was conducted by Bishop Jacob Mojela. Pheto was asked to perform numerous duties before he was named Bishop. He was asked to lie down with his face on the ground, spreading his arms like Jesus on the cross. The holy prayer was conducted as his beloved wife became emotional at the sight of her husband’s promise and the step their family is taking. It was in 2005 when Lefa Pheto Gospel Tunes established itself in Zamdela, just years after Pheto was raised to reverendship in Bophelong. Now in 2014 Pheto is ordinated Bishop. “I never thought that God would lift me up to this position. I never thought I would be a Bishop one day. But through Christ, who strengthens me today, I’m leading his children through his word,” says Pheto. David Pheto, well known by his TV popular name Paul Moroka in Generations, was amongst the people who attended the event.

SEBOKENG. - The `Vaal Dojos Kyokoshin’ have become popular due to their winning streak over the past few months. The name belongs to various karate clubs opened in various local areas as a way to keep kids off the streets. In a recent meeting at the Katleho Impumelelo Secondary School, karate instructors spoke about the different issues affecting them. Oupa Mokoena, whose club is based in Boitumelo says, “After realising that young children were becoming victims of crime and misconduct, we decided to open up these clubs. “We would now like to urge the kids to come
and join us as karate is a sport of discipline.” Mokoena adds that although they face many challenges, they still go out to compete with other more experienced teams and come back as winners. Bhuti Maqabe, who heads the headquarters at the school, states that they would highly appreciate it if the community would invest in the karate club for the good of the children. “We are asking for sponsors because when we go out there to compete with other regions, it is Vaal that we are representing. We therefore urge the community to help get us sponsors for proper karate gear,” Maqabe concludes.

Antoinette’s Marionettes teach Midvaal learners about CANSA MEYERTON. - To add extra excitement to Easter this year, the Randvaal Library organised for Antoinette of “Antoinette’s Marionettes” to entertain the learners of Japie Greyling School in Daleside with a puppet show. Through a combination of song and dance, Antoinette used her puppets to share a message about a few different types of cancer and how to prevent contracting them. As cancer in South Africa affects many young people, CANSA is working with yo-
uth entertainers such as Antoinette to convey their message to as many children as possible. The learners were delighted as their friends were called up on stage to interact with Antoinette and the puppets, and were keen to repeat the important messages shared with them by Antoinette. This habit of naming our stadiums after political figures and subjects must come to an end. Shooting From The Hip believes it’s high time that our stadiums be named after former achievers in their respective sports. Why do our sports facilities always have to be named after political heroes? What about those who contributed to the development of sports in this country? For example, Shooting From The Hip had an interesting conversation with the former Bafana Bafana captain Aaron ‘Mbazo’ Mokoena and I asked him – “Why don’t they name Boipatong Stadium after you – Aaron Mokoena Stadium?” He looked at me as if I’d said so-

Boipatong: Aaron Mokoena Stadium!
mething he’d never thought about. The man was overwhelmed by this and asked Shooting From The Hip: “You have been thinking about this?” My question is also: Why do we wait for these heroes to die and then name these sports facilities after them as was the case with Neil Jansen. Shooting From The Hip feels that Mokoena is a former soccer star who deserves to be recognised. This Boipatong-born and international soccer star is the most capped Bafana Bafana player to date with more than 100 caps. Sharpeville’s George Thabe Stadium was named after George Thabe. Ntate Thabe was one of the most feared and respected football
administrator to have emerged in the Vaal Triangle and - because of his contribution to South African football - the Sharpeville Stadium was named after him. The good thing about this is that they never waited for him to die before they named the venue after him. Now Shooting From The Hip challenges the Boipatong community to stand up and be counted. Aaron Mokoena has made history as the first Bafana Bafana player to have more than 100 caps but we say nothing. Boipatong Stadium should be named after Mokoena because this is where he started his football career before he joined Jomo Cosmos and went overseas. As if this is not enough, Mokoena was the youngsest player in the
1998 Barkino Faso African Cup of Nations. Mokoena and other sports personalities deserve to be recognised and appreciated in this region for the role they played in our sports. If we honour struggle heroes, we must also not forget the role that sports - in particular football - played in this country. Shooting From The Hip believes that the local municipality will consider this and name Boipatong Stadium the ‘Aaron ‘Mbazo’ Mokoena’ Stadium. We laud politicians so why not sports heroes such as Simon ‘Bull’ Lehoko. He is another person who deserves to be recognised in this region. I say.

VANDERBIJLPARK. - Shakespeare Stadium was a hive of activity when the Vanderbijlpark SAPS recently hosted the Less Crime and Safe Area Games. The games were part of crime awareness. SAPS Sergeant Gertrude
Makhale says the main aim of the games was to encourage the community to work with Police. She says these games had achieved their objective with the community, schools and members of SAPS had a fun-filled day playing soccer and netball among other activities.

ROSHNEE. - For the second year the Roshmed Roshnee Tennis Masters did not disappoint. The Roshnee tennis courts were a hive of activity as young and old tennis players took each other on to be crowned the winners of 2014. This event took place recently and 48 tennis players participated. After several games it was time for the semi-final. Naeem Cassim and Riaz Latib played against Naazim Saloogee and Riaz Patel, while Zubair Chohan and Umar Farouk Desai played against Yusuf Cassim and Yaseen Khan. After a nerve-wracking, nail-biting and stressful semi-final it was Zubair Chohan and Umar Farouk Desai who took on Naeem Cassim and Riaz Latib in the final. Unfortunately there can only be one winner and Naeem and Riaz were crowned the winners of the inaugural Roshmed Roshnee Tennis Masters 2014. “We have begun installing a new
floodlight system at the public tennis courts and cannot even begin to imagine the hype, excitement, and interest that will be created by this new improvement. “We are confident that tennis is about to be catapulted into being the most popular recreational event in Roshnee,” says Dr Saad Dasoo from the Running Racquets T He continued, saying: “Our theme this year is to celebrate 20 years of peace, freedom and democracy in our country. What would be a more befitting way than to display our community's continuous, proactive and selfless struggle in striving to improve our public sporting facilities so that all may benefit. We stand proud as a sterling example to all communities.” This tournament was sponsored by Roshmed and the aim is to generate funds to upgrade the facility and generate interest in playing tennis.

SEDIBENG. - Vaal Development FC (Vaal Dev) is through to the final of the NWU Vaal Cup scheduled to take place at the university’s Vaal campus on May 17. +This Boipatong side achieved their feat after they beat their neighbours Liverpool FC in the same-final slot played at the Boipatong Stadium on Sunday. The game did not live up to expectation as was expected, taking into considerati-
on that it was the Boipatong Derby. Both teams were huffing and puffing, with local soccer fans annoyed by both teams’ inability to put no more than three passes together. No fair chance was created in the first half, and the second stanza was the same story, with both teams sky-rocketing the ball and hoping to get something in the process. Vaal Dev will be waiting for the winner in a game between Vintage and Sebokeng
Academy. The two sides will battle this coming weekend in the semi-finals at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone 14, Sebokeng on Saturday. The tournament is organised by the NWU Vaal Campus in partnership with the Emfuleni Local Football Association as part of the institution’s social responsibility and part of development in this region. NWU Vaal Campus Marketing and Communication Department representative Matome Kganak-
ga says there will be lots of fun on the day of the final. He says, “As an institution, we are happy with the way the tournament is run at the moment.” Emfuleni Local Football Association Chairman Philip Ndlovu says he was also happy to see some teams playing the kind of exciting football appreciated by local soccer fans
Fans pack Isak Steyl to capacity SEDIBENG. - Isak Steyl Stadium came to a standstill when VUT FC and Vaal Milano FC battled it out in the Safa Sedibeng SAB League top-of-the-table clash on Friday night. This was the game of the season with both sides showing why they are at the summit of the SAB League log. Local soccer fans filled the venue to capacity. Even even some PSL teams can’t claim to attract such crowds to their league matches. Even though the game ended in a 0 - 0 draw it lived up to expectations with both sides playing what can only be called ‘attack’ football. The atmosphere was electrified with both teams’ fans singing non-stop on the stands. The game was worth watching with both coaches Tebello ‘Benza’ Kheswa and Geelbooi ‘Goma‘Masango coming into this game ‘attack’-minded. This was the game of the season to date, with the teams remaining with less than eight games before the end of the season. It seems to be a two-horse-race between Vaal Milano and VUT FC with the two occupying first and second places at the top of the log
with 56 and 57 points respectively. However, mathematically, Vaal Milano FC seems to be the red-hot favourite to clinch the league championship taking into consideration the number of games they remain with. They have two games in hand and if they win all their remaining games they will definitely be crowned the league champions. As for ‘The Students’ they must also win all their games if they entertain any hope of winning the league title come the end of the season. However, both coaches believe that the league is still wide open. They do not want to predict what is going to happen. They also acknowledge that the game was worth watching and local soccer fans enjoyed each and every moment of action. The rest of the weekend results are as follows: Reki Manyora FC 0-2 Real Barcelona FC FC RESA 3-2 The Birds FC Sebokeng Ajax FC 0-1 Ghetto Seven FC Central United FC 1-0 Sailor FC Mighty Blues 1-0 Hillside United Real Heart FC 3-1 United Scientists FC.
